View Full Version : Is it possible to get that "crimped" look with braids?

So, this year for halloween I'm going as a witch, and I want crimped hair. I do have a crimper (can't believe I just confessed to that!) but I'm trying to be a good LHCer and go no heat

Could I get the same results if I slept in loads of tight braids? And does anyone have any pictures (google's being uncooperative for me right now)?

My hair's a couple of inches past shoulder, if that makes any difference. Thank you thank you thank you! :p

Yes, but the braids don't have to be too tight. Just don't brush your hair when you unbraid it or you'll end up with a big frizzy poof. It's best to just finger comb because little braids frizz easily.:) ETA: Unless you want them frizzy for Halloween.

If you braid your hair while wet, it will dry very "crimped"!

Have fun!

Thanks, I'll bear the finger brushing in mind. Now I just wish that I were more skilled in the plaiting department, lol. I think I've just realised what I'll be doing all evening :pumpkin:

Torrinpaige has a cool video tutorial that results in pretty crimpy hair... http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=torrinpaige#p/u/31/R0NMLSUICp4

I had my hair put in a braid and i took them out and I had the crimped look.
So braids definitely do give you crimped looking hair if left like that for a few.

Small braids, lots of them, in wet hair will give you that look. I did it with my daughter's hair for fun once. I think I did about 20 braids, and we left them in all day and overnight. The next morning, she had really cool looking hair :)

I achieved a crimped look by sleeping in two pigtail French braids, but you could probably get a tighter crimp with more small braids. I would recommend either braiding while it's still damp (not dripping, but not fully dry), or rubbing a bit of aloe gel through your hair first before braiding. Here's my braid waves from the double French braids.

Braids can definitely give a crimped looked. My hair crimps best with a minimum of four braids, but more or less work depending on how thick of hair you have and how tight of crimp you are going for. I usually make pig-tails and then put however many braids I want in each pig-tail while the hair is damp. Leave it for at least 8 hours, and when taken down lots of crimp.

If you want that fly-away wild look you can run a brush or comb through your hair after taking it down. If you want something a bit neater looking, just finger comb.

This was 12 braids. I had to leave them until they were FULLY dry, but these crimps stayed in for DAYS.

Yep, that's what we used to do in the early 80s, and I don't mean for Halloween! :p
