View Full Version : How are your bangs parted?

I have had my bangs back for about a year and a half now. When I first got them cut, I told the stylist that I wanted side swept bangs. I don't know if she cut my bangs at a certain part for this look or if she just styled them that way. I wonder about this because when I see my bangs in the mirror, they always look oddly shaped to me. I am talking about the part in my bangs that she used to cut them. Sometimes I still wear my bangs swept to the side, but the majority of the time I am wearing them straight down now. They are parted with this triangular look, but to me it seems a little off (more on one side then the other?). What do you think?

(I wore my bangs pulled back today, so I had to wet them down for the picture.)
It isn't like anyone else notices but me, so I thought I would ask about it here to see if you notice anything.
I have no idea what part is used most for bangs? Mine look like they were cut in a triangle. Anyone here have a straight across part?

Im pretty sure that the stylist didnt know whats she was doing when she cut your hair! Those definately arent side bangs like you wanted....and they are a cut differently on both sides :( i would have been angry with her honestly

I don't know what to do. I want bangs parted the right way then! I need them parted correctly and then I will grow out what I need to.
I usually wear them straight down, not side swept.
Any suggestions? Is there a tutorial about this? Maybe I should just go back to a stylist and get them parted another way and figured out what I need to grow back out.
I haven't been to a stylist since March and I dread going in a way. I have gotten used to doing my own thing. *sigh*

This oen worked pretty well for me. I like my bans triangle-shaped instead of using a straight line. so I think she does it nicely

I have a cow-lick. My bangs naturally want to part funkdafied in the middle but I spray and flat-iron and hope till they somewhat lay sway styled. I don't like it but I look much better with bangs than without.

I can understand when you say "I have gotten used to doing my own thing", for I haven't trusted a hairdresser with my hair for years. Give your self time to research how to cut the bangs to the style you really want, then chose a time to cut when you aren't feeling too tired or too emotional.
Your bangs don't look too bad so don't be too hard on yourself. :flower:

Thank you. :flower:
My bangs have been like this for a year and a half now, so I know it isn't that noticeable, but people usually aren't looking at the top of my head. :) They look just fine when looking directly at me since you can't see the part.
It looks like the bangs are a chunk into my hair. If it were possible maybe I could grow out this back part. I don't know... the front part still needs corrected too since it looks like more is cut out on one side then the other.

I just spent almost an hour trying to part my hair different ways and just think about how I may want to cut my bangs differently. I tried the part in the video above, and it seemed no matter how many times I tried, it looked as though my hair looked different on one side then the other. I wonder if I have a cow-lick too? I think the part in the video would be perfect for me if I could figure out how to get it to look the same. Maybe I should grow out my bangs for a while and not think about it. It is getting on my nerves right now.

It may be difficult to change the way your bangs are cut/combed when theyre still short. Grow it out until you can pony away the hair you don't want, and train your hair/bangs to part it the way you want it to.
I always mess wit the bangs-shape on th top of my head, depending on how thick I want them, but it took me a few years of constant combing and hairspray use to get them to go side-ways, or atleast part on the side. They naturally want to part in the middle.
Now they naturally part over my eye, wich is okay when theyre long, but I still want them to naturally part alittle more to the side, beause I don't like my bangs to be this long.

That's a legitimate shape for side-swept bangs; she made the triangle shallower on the side you're supposed to comb them towards, so that they will stay over to that side more easily and won't be too thick a bunch of hair when it's combed to that side.
However, if you're usually wearing them straight down you might want to transition to another shape; when I had bangs they were cut in a triangle, but more an isoceles right triangle (http://www.meden.demon.co.uk/Fractals/gifs2/MapleTile001.gif) instead of the scalene triangle (http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/38500/38596/Triwent3_38596_lg.gif) shape you've got.
I'd let them grow out some more before you try to change the shape so that the strands that you designate as "not bangs anymore" will stick with your longer hair better.

I've seen this off-centre triangle for sideswept bangs before. I think it's pretty standard. It's certainly not normal for bangs worn straight down, but definitely for sideswept. One friend of mine had an even more pronounced triangle -- almost like a right-angle triangle, it was so skewed to one side!
I think by changing the thickness across the fringe, you get a much better shape when you sweep them sideward.

Right down the middle.

Thank you Tornerose and Roseate! I think I will do what you said, by growing out my bangs and later deciding what I want.
If I part my hair mid-eyebrow on one side, then I have hair on both sides of my face. I think I will grow them out that way, because the shape of the part isn't as noticeable when I pull my hair back. I also like how I have half on both sides framing my face. I haven't worn it this way for a while. It has usually been swept to the side or straight down in the middle.

K, having had this explained to my by my hairdresser, I know what it is! Though after she told me how she'd need to do it, I elected against it... That asymetrical part is intentional. The bangs would sweep towards the smaller angle of your triangle, and the triangle is angled toward the opposite side to help the top of the sideswept bangs be a thicker "chunk."
Think fat '60's sideswpt bags, where they're smoothed down all sleek and tucked behind the ear, probably with an updo much of the time. However, I don't understand why she'd cut them so short but still cut the angle for a true sidesweep--confusing. You can't have "sweeping" yet short bangs. To my knowledge, "sideswept" is specific, to be differentiated from side parts, right?

I prefer the triangle shape of bangs better than bangs that start at the line that windinherhair drew on her picture, but that is just me. I feel like those sort of non-triangle bangs make me look square and more masculine, idk. Maybe I just like to be off center in general, hehe

It seems to me that my bangs were always cut from a curved line, a shallow U.

She isn't the one who cut my bangs short. I wore them long most of the year last year with the side swept look. Then I started to wear them straight in front so they needed to be cut shorter so they wouldn't be in my eyes.

I think I would prefer a more triangle or shallow U shape to my bangs, but one that is more centered, unlike how they are now. I drew the line for an idea, but I don't think I would like them cut straight across.

I'm not really sure. I have wispy bangs and haven't really noticed where the part is.

My hair naturally parts on the left, and since I have some scars on my scalp I never part anywhere else - even when I wear double braids I still part on the left. My hair will not behave if I try to part against the 'grain' due to the scars.

That's pretty typical. You can always try to re-center the triangle if you wish.
And for the record, it is possible to have short side-swept bangs. I cut these myself last year, and I cut them using a triangle part like yours, only I did it with an even triangle because I'm not a stylist :)

I grow them out and trim them when I feel like it.

I don't have bangs because they part all by themselves in the middle where I have an enormous cowlick.

Yours too? Mine naturally part a little off-center (like me :D ) I decided not to fight it any more because I hate hair spray.

It depends on their mood:) Sometimes my bangs are together on the side. Sometimes, like today- divided into two, parted in the middle. They should be parted on the side. But... they don't care:D So me too:) I am a tolerant mother.

Have you tried reparting along the line you want when your hair's wet & continually pulling the bangs down so the line sets in place as your hair dries?
I found a couple of stray hairs that were parting back into the bulk of my hair instead of in my fringe, making it unsymmetrical & I used this technique to get them in the habit of being part of the fringe before I got them trimmed to fit it..
