Hair has three phases. The growing phase, the resting phase, and the shedding phase.

Does anyone know the number of weeks or months each phase lasts?

It's different for each person. I've read the average length of the whole cycle is 7 years. I've also read it's 6 years for growing, then 2 years for resting, on average. Some people's cycle is a lot longer, though, because there are people who grow the usual 1/2" per month but have way longer than 36" hair (measured from follicle to tip).

I've never heard of this. I'm assuming the resting phase is a not growing phase? Shedding is when it all falls out and you have to start over again? http://i620.photobucket.com/albums/tt288/CFAngel180/biggrin.gif

Shedding is when the hair naturally falls out. Fortunately, every hair is on its own schedule so you won't ever really have to start over again. I think there's an article about the hair growth cycle on here somewhere.

Hmm, I have never known about or noticed these before. I guess I'm not attuned to my hair's phases!
