Aw, I know. I lived in NC for a year, and I missed baguettes *so much*. That, and cheese. Baguettes from Whole Foods were just not the same thing :shrug:

Same with Guinness, I guess: it never tastes the same outside of Ireland (the batch being slightly different for importation purposes).

So quick process. I made some test hair balls to make sure it would turn out good:

I chose the blue bleach with 30vol peroxide for 40 minutes.
I applied coconut oil to the section under my fringe, i left it about only 30 minutes while i got my gear ready.
Applied bleach at 5pm.

I had to draw the hands in on some because of the flash.
Thats the processing time.
THEN
I left it in a mask for 30 minutes. And you know shampooed it 3 times and conditioned it 3 times, i read somewhere to RINSE IT WELL, and well, i didn't want it to eat my hair!

It varies anywhere from a berry red to hot pink, purple and anything else inbetween. It can look more blue then that but still i want it more bluer!

It turned out pinker than i wanted and that was expected. I have some Jerome Russel Neon blue, from ebay, arriving soon, which will give me the violet i want!

The first day i was literally jumping up and screaming with excitment, my mother laughed at me, and when i went out my sisters laughed at me too (but my choice of clothing was equally as loud)
I did get starred at. I'm pretty shy about it!
So that made me a bit like "should i have???"
It's been a day and i feel a bit better about it, if i dress more normal and get it darker i think i'd be happier. Or if i just don't bleach it quite that light as it grows out, i did not go right to the roots for fear of anything burning or dyeing at the root. So i have regrowth already and i don't mide it's covered anyway.

Its a bit strange to get used to though!

i love the purple.
although i've a few gripes about not knowing the correct way to bleach, but thats whatever (sorry my crazy knowledge of color/bleach tends to make me a little anally retentive about it. you did a good job though. -- remember bleach works best within the first 50 mins, and always start on legnth (1/2' from roots) then apply to roots for even results.

surprisingly you really didn't, just a little of the decolorization looks some what brassy-er in certain areas. the time you leave the bleach on is determined by how much lighter you want your hair to be, everyone's hair is different so its a trial and error process or more rinse & re-apply. just remember the lengths first then the roots. cause your scalp gives off heat and speeds things us while the length has no heat so it takes longer. when the roots are brighter/lighter than the length its called 'hot roots' for obvious reasons. but im very proud of you for getting those results without (i assume) much knowledge of bleaching.

proof that i did get the ends light. It's just the way the hair shines. I'm thinking next time to maybe bleach the roots and streaks in the faded purple so i get some white areas, or maybe leaving it blonde for a while? I think a bit whiter will make it less.... *yellow/orange*

ktani - thank you! I used a pretty generous amount, i would have left it on over night if i had some patience! I applied heaps not so that it was literally dripping, but about 2 generous nails ful on that fringe part, it was all globbing together? That much! I did leave the bleach for 40 minutes though it was 30 vol peroxide.
I actually kind of like black around my face so i don't like how light the purple is (as a winter the starker colours siut me more) but i'm going to play this one out- may as well! :)

For my side of head streaks i'm thinking just 20vol peroxide with a further diluted bleach so that i only get a medium brown. I don't think i need it that light, plus that hair will mess with the rest of my hair my fringe kind of sits out of the way so it can be as damaged as i like!
Thankjs for that link, i think i made it to stage 6, and in that case for the sides i only want stage 2 or 3, maybe 4, but it seems i would maybe achieve that with peroxide alone, so i might try that as it seems less damaging...

ktani - thank you! I used a pretty generous amount, i would have left it on over night if i had some patience! I applied heaps not so that it was literally dripping, but about 2 generous nails ful on that fringe part, it was all globbing together? That much! I did leave the bleach for 40 minutes though it was 30 vol peroxide.
I actually kind of like black around my face so i don't like how light the purple is (as a winter the starker colours siut me more) but i'm going to play this one out- may as well! :)


The reason I asked is that it has been reported and that the amount of oil used to the amount of hair is having the same or similar effect as leaving it on longer.

I am curious to read your damage assessment as time goes by but I think from looking at your results that will not be a problem. I would love to include your report in the peroxide thread, linking to this thread, if you agree, when your results are complete.

Oh that sounds cool, i was a little worried that i ruined it by not leaving it long enough! my hair is day 3, so my fringe is naturally quite oily, i usually wash my fringe every morning but i havnt because of the bleach. I think compared to my virgin hair you can slightly feel a difference, you can probably tell that some scales won't sit down but it still feels smooth from what i can tell...my fingers are starting to get callouses from the ukulele so i can't really be the best to say, haha. :) I'll keep you posted!

I LOVE that pink colour!!! Very nice. I hope you end up with the colour you are aiming for though. We're not allowed to do anything like that at one of the jobs I work at. It's part of our code of conduct. Oh well, I can live vicariously through you!!!

Sounds good and your results look great. If you do continue to bleach, leaving the coconut oil on longer is a good option and recommended but it does not appear necessary to leave it on overnight.

I appreciate your offer to update me and I will be happy to include your report regardless of how things turn out. That said, from viewing your results I do not think that you have anything to worry about but I cannot speak for that. Only you can and please take the time you need to be sure of your assesssment.
