Now, I know the most important thing we can do for our hair is to take care of it and protect it as much as possible, but an important thing that goes along with that is how we detangle our hair. What kind of brush, comb, or method do you use that best takes care of your hair?

A few years ago, I ordered something from Dove online and they sent me this free plastic wide-toothed comb. I dug it out when I started taking care of my hair, and haven't let it go since.

I also have a BBB that I use rarely, just to add shine and an overall finish if I'm going out.

The best detangling tool I've purchased is my Heavenly Harvest Horn Comb:

Before that I had a plasticy-rubbery comb from Wal*Mart. After the seams were filed down it was a pretty nice comb. But, it was nothing compared to the horn comb. It just glides through my hair. It's hard to describe. The sound of it going through my hair is even different from my old plastic comb.

I have a really old wide toothed pick thing that I use to detangle my hair after conditioning, while it's still pretty wet. Other than that I finger comb and use a Widu wooden long-bristle brush that I've had for years and years. I've never found a comb that will go through my hair so I don't bother.

Mason-Pearson BBB I share with my husband. It was pretty expensive, but we bought it about eight years ago, and it's still in perfect shape. I only use it once a day the two or three days before washing to move the oils down my hair; the first day or two after washing I only comb with a wooden (Bass wide tooth) comb. The comb has lasted several years too, with minimal maintenance (it gets oiled when I run it through oiled hair).

My Che-Chen hardwood comb from Sierra Legacy is the BEST. It's a pleasure to look at, care for, and use.

I use a Body Shop wooden quill brush or detangle with my fingers.

I can't pick one. I like my Mason Pearson rake, Heavenly Harvest horn comb like the one pictured above and my Body Shop wooden comb. I rarely use a brush. I also use a wide tooth comb I got a Sally's and I like it too. I mostly comb in the shower but occasionally detangle if it is a while between washings or I get tangles and want to wear a French braid or something.

I know allot of people like the brush but I find that for my hair the best thing to use is a wide tooth comb. I have been using them for years, no brushing at all and I barely get any splits and I don’t cut my hair almost at all, maybe once a year …
i got my comb at a local beauty supply store, no brand name ... ;)

I use very inexpensive flexible plastic combs from Sally's (meaning not brittle, breakable plastic). I think I paid $.99 for each and purchased several at one time. They are 9-10 inches long. The teeth are medium-spaced at one end and fine-spaced at the other. I got rid of the few wide-spaced combs that I formerly had because they don't do a thorough enough job, although in a pinch, I would borrow one of them before using any kind of brush.

It's hard to pick just one, but my very favorite is this HUGE bone comb from hairsense.com (just look for the largest one they have). I bought it with a group order and they called it a Viking oar comb (Stroke!Stroke!). It's anti-static and that's probably why I use it the most.

I also like my MP rake, but it's pretty staticky in dryer weather. I use my HH horn rake, too. And I have a MP detangler that's good for smoothing. I would hate to part with any of them. Sometimes, I'll use three different combs during one combing. I start with the wider toothed ones and move to the smaller as I detangle.

My favourite is a wide toothed wooden comb from the Body Shop. For updos that are supposed to look sleek and for spreading oils though, I like my BBB.

I'd been using a brush for a while, but now I find what works best for me is a quick finger-combing followed by a simple medium-toothed wooden comb. It gives less static, and I feel like it's just more gentle overall.

Wide toothed horn comb and BBB from Kostkamm :cloud9:
The horn-comb is for detangling and doing styles, actually itīs called an Afro-comb and is very wide toothed, my hair likes it anyway. Maybe itīs not working right... didnīt get ringlets from using it :ponder: .
The BBB I only use on my scalp to massage it and to remove lint from the length. So mainly I brush over my head to the nape and maybe two brush-strokes down the length. No way I would do the "recommended" 100 brush strokes through the length every day :scared:. Too much friction and mechanical damage over time, for my taste.

I have a wooden qill brush that I bought from the Body Shop and am thinking about buying a MP rake to use when my hair is wet.

Kent wide tooth comb.
Dry brittle hair, was so happy when I gave up the brush, although saying that I've recently discovered the basic Denham brush actually works really well for my hair.

Love my Horn Comb from heavenly harvest. I never thought a comb would make any difference. It really cut down on static.

I have a wide tooth wooden comb from the Body Shop, which is great for general detangling. I needed something finer, though, and recently got a wooden quill brush from there. It's absolutely great! I *heart* that brush! :D

I also have a plastic wide tooth comb in the shower cabinet, as sometimes I detangle while rinsing out the conditioner.

That Heavenly Harvest horn comb is beautiful! I'm assuming they have a web site. I use a Denman brush to detangle before I wash. Otherwise I use a wide tooth comb. I really want to check out the Heavenly Harvest one though.
