This sounds so beautiful. I am moving toward classic. I cannot decide if I should get the ends cut a bit to thicken them or just allow the fairytale ends to be. Perhaps when I get to classic, I will leave it there a bit to thicken and then go to knee? Any suggestions on growing strategies would be helpful. I only have been intentional about hair growth for two years now, setting clear goals
I would go for length first if my ends weren't damaged in any way (like splits or white dots); and still, you can S&D (search & destroy) those out perfectly fine without compromising the length of the hair.

zashin66 Your hair is very lovely! It is similar to mine in color for sure. Congrats on your milestones!
After much deliberation I ave decided to keep growing for now. I have no real length goal in mind. I am still at FTL and am considering trying for knee. My hair grows so slowly, 5" a year at best and I trim a 1/2" a year to keep the ends neat. At 4.5" a year, that is two more years for knee but I will not commit to that just yet.

None. :) Not anymore. I'm real happy about that, because there have certainly been *plenty* of times where that was different. I had a time where half my head was riddled in white dots (up to the root area). So... yeah.

Thank you! You have a head start on me in terms of hair health - I found LHC a couple of years ago at roughly TBL with years of not-so-benign neglect, so my hemline looked nowhere as lovely as yours! :flower: Had to chop a bit off on the way since then
I had a bit of a hairy afternoon today. I tried my Denman brush for the first time since buying my wooden comb ~18months ago, and I gave up halfway up the lengths. It was sooooo difficult to be gentle enough; I just couldn't bear it any more. Then while it was down anyway, decided to measure, and I'm aaaaaalmost brushing lower thigh, (which will conveniently be 50" - satisfies the number nerd in me  ) and it means ... *whispers* I'm on track for knee by the end of the year :o

How flowy and beautiful!! :o
thank you Glitch! I Have to give credit to the self-described "Sleek" shampoo/Conditioner combo I use .....because without those two conditionings after shampoo my hair is like straw literally. crunchy and stiff as a board. like horse hair after being in the mud. (I have horses and I can tell you that is a TRUE statement). I have to use 'cones and sulfates to get any kind of soft look. I tried oiling but i don't think i have the patience to keep trying to find the right combination. I am have my 'busy' excuses but i think i am just too impatient with my hair. I cheat with the 'cones and my hair seems to do 'okay' not great...I have too many split ends. I disguise them under the 'cones. The only concession I made was to work to stretch out my shampooings to about every week to week and a half. Guess you really didn't need all this info but I woke up this am and and am chatty. (lol)

I felt that same dilemma. Fairytale ends sounds so romantic! I actually went out and had the top of my long hair layered so that as my hair grew I might develop those kinds of ends. I regret that now. But I am still on the fence about fairy tale ends or not. I am kind of getting something like that now. There is a thinning down there going on. I don't think people are noticing too much. So I just decided to continue growing and see what happens. I still have those layers up top from the crown so ......... Those blunt ends look amazing and the fairytale ends look amazing. Guess growing my hair down to the ground (my goal at this time) will give me the option once I reach there to cut blunt at the knee should I choose that as my 'new' choice of length once my current goal is reached. Wow, that will be so amazing to have a choice like that.....

I normally have very ashy brown, but from right around waist down i've had previous dye which is reddish. I've been wondering if i should do a veggie dye to add some color to the bottom for summer without bleaching again. I won't touch the virgin hair though, thats taken too long to regrow!

littlestarface, it's your decision (of course, without a doubt). I know what it's like to cross over a comfortable milestone into unknown territory. I grew a little past classic before and couldn't handle it. I am determined to go to thigh this time, though. It's all about what you are comfortable with at the time, and if that for you is up to knee at the most, then that's the way it is! :flower: I do admire your hair, any length!

My goodness, your hair continues to amaze me, Maborosi. Looking back at your 2012 photos, I cannot believe that it's the same hair I'm looking at. What a change! It seems your hair is getting healthier and fuller the longer it gets. Are you close to the 50" milestone now? I'm pretty sure that you will reach knee length in a few months.
By the way, do you always wear your hair down or will you braid it when going out? I cannot remember having seen a picture of your hair in a braid. I hope you will post here more frequently and keep us updated on your beautiful journey!

I am honestly shocked, too, when I look back at my old pictures. When I started growing, I figured my hair -might- reach hip (36"), and then I'd be near terminal. Boy was I wrong.
I think since joining LHC, I've changed a lot about how I care for my hair. When I joined, I believe my thickness was around 3.25" (Initially), and now it's around 4". I believe taking better care of myself and my hair have allowed me to see its true potential.
I am usually pretty adamant about not letting my ends get too thin. When they start to feel like they're getting a bit scraggly, I trim the ends off. Splits, I try to get rid of them ASAP so they don't travel up the hair.
I rarely wear it down, especially now. If I want to, I make sure that my hair is prepared- I bring my tangle teezer with me and lots of serum.
(For me, "Wearing it down" also includes ponytails, or anything that allows my ends to be exposed. I treat ponytails and loose braids the same way as wearing it down- with lots of care.)
Afterwards, I always try to follow up with a good deep conditioning treatment. I like my hair in buns and braids, but, it seems I don't post a lot of pictures of them!

You need to know your truth. What you said made me think about the time when I was surrounded by negativity and some kind people would tell me "Don't listen to them, stop caring about their opinion." But how could I stop caring for their opinion, all this negativity, if I didn't have anything else in my head? There was nothing to replace the negativity and I believed the negativity is the truth. It was all I had. Kind people would tell me "Don't listen to the negative stuff" but wouldn't add a second sentence describing me, the things I do etc. in a positive way. And I wasn't able to provide those positive descriptions for myself. That's the pain of being teenager, of being too young and too immature to construct a positive and solid self-image that isn't influenced by others.
A good trick: open a book, place it in front of your face and ask someone standing in front of you what they see. They will tell you they see a book cover. But you see open pages, words etc. You're looking at the same item, but you see different things. The same applies to hair.
Listen to us, if it's helpful. Use positive opinions to build your own opinion about your hair. It's hard, but it can be done.

Littlestarface, take a little book and write down the hair compliments you have received here. When someone says something unkind about your hair, go and read these compliments, and they will make you feel much better about it. Those people in your life probably don't know much about gorgeous long hair like yours. We here at the LHC know beautiful hair when we see it.... :crush: :grouphug:

I get negative comments about my hair all the time at home, they see it like a little rag or something. My boyfriend always looks at my hair with an ugly face. I ask him what you think of my hair n he's like says nothing n shrugs but he sees arab thick hair everyday so. I want long hair(I mean ankle length) but that's not gonna happen.
littlestarface I'm sorry you have this negativity when you should be shown kindness and appreciation. Soak in the kindness here are LHC and encouragement regarding both your hair and you. Hugs, GG

I've been having so many splits from this stormy weather and jackets that i'm getting tangles and knotts, which my hair doesn't naturally do when its healthy. I'm sticking to the two-week rule so i don't cut back again. i must reach knee first! October is the goal.
I'm hip+ length virgin now too, which is a relief. healthy is on the way!

That's difficult to hear, and must be hard for you to always be surrounded by that negativity.
You should soak in all the positive (and truthful) feelings from this place about your beautiful hair, to help armour you against it!
Don't listen to negative people, they just want to drag you down.
littlestarface :thud: Thank you for posting this wonderful pic of your glorious mane! You have given me hope!! May I ask...how long has it taken you to reach this wonderful length and do you still trim regularly? Mine grows SO slowly.
Anyway...WELL DONE! :flowers:

You keep doing what makes you happy. It is your hair and you clearly take very good care of it! 5 inches..hmm...think I've now slowed down to 3. I am almost at butt and am aiming for knee...and it's taking forever! It is very healthy for the first time in years, though, so perhaps things will speed up...and if no...well...I'll get there in the end. :) May I ask how many years you it took you to reach calf? Calf? :applause:agape: Holy Dinah! :)

Well, I suppose I have a few question specifically for those who are in this thread. 1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair? 2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life? 3. Is it hard to maintain? 4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now? 5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down? 6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before? 7. Any tips or encouragement. I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow. I know I want to make it to classic. And possibly even mid thigh. Knee seems very daunting to me. But I also have that urge to see if I can even make it there. And if I do. Would I maintain or cut back to a previous length I favored. (I would donate my hair if I do)

Well, I suppose I have a few question specifically for those who are in this thread. 1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
For me, it's fun It's a length which "wows" anyone who sees it down, yet it's still easy to look after and maintain.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Not really, since I normally wear it up, and then it's just as practical as short hair. I have my set wash days, and if I don't have time to wash it during the day I can wash it in the evening and wrap it in a T-shirt towel for half an hour, then 10 minutes with a hair dryer and it's dry. Or if I prefer I can braid it and sleep with it dampish and have wonderful waves next day :)
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No, very easy for me, no harder than, say, waist length. Wash it, let it dry, wear it up and, for sleeping, in a sleep cap. Done :) Trim when I want.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
Curiosity, to see if I can, these days, plus I would like to see what ankle length looks like on me :p
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
It depends on what I'm doing. Not if I'm just sitting in a chair, but otherwise it does tend to get in the way and I always have to be conscious of where it is and what it might be sneakily getting up to. I do wear it down for special occasions but I mostly prefer to protect it and have it safely confined with a pretty hair toy. Then it's like my own special secret, that my hair is long and nobody knows how long it is. It's fun, like having "stealth" hair!
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
No, just my usual benign neglect with occasional clarifying, deep treatments and pre poo oiling. It gets the same treatments now that it did at waist length.
7. Any tips or encouragement.
Be patient, and gentle with your hair, and when you get discouraged with it, remember that it has to go through this stage to reach where you want it to be. Then put it up and forget about it until you feel happier with it. Don't cut it - that won't get you to your goal. Tell yourself that today your hair is longer than it was yesterday...and that it's getting there.
I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow. I know I want to make it to classic. And possibly even mid thigh. Knee seems very daunting to me. But I also have that urge to see if I can even make it there. And if I do. Would I maintain or cut back to a previous length I favored. (I would donate my hair if I do)
I hope this was helpful for you. I still have people here inspiring me to grow longer yet (thinking of you, Gossamer :D)

I spend all too long thinking about mine and I made my DH cross today because I kept asking him to take some hair photos, and he hates taking photos. In the end he said he wasn't going to take any more.

I'm guilty of thinking to long about my hair too. I'm sorta neglecting my hair its been in braids though I have redone them a couple times. For about 5 days now. Which sounds crazy but I'm trying to not wash my hair yet see how long I can take it if I must gonna be buying hair shears soon hoping to do some S&D in the middle of this month. Before the challenge starts for no trimming also gonna take a pic on the 20th for a final decision to no trim which I think my hair can Handel it. if I S&D which I'm new to since I'm buying shears soon.

1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
Calf Length. Pretty much the same as from Classic Length. Usually up in a bun, down probably an hour a day? (plus sleeping...I don't toss and turn, so I just toss it over the pillows).
2. Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Only very briefly...if I have it down and need to have it up or out of the way, or if my stick decides now is the time to leap out (almost invariably an inconvenient time). Almost never for not doing things because of the length.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No. Wash 1/week, air dry, mostly finger detangle, S&D from time to time
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
I like long hair, why not go longer (even if I am pretty much at terminal)
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
No. My reflexes have gotten pretty good for maneuvering to keep it out of stuff, if my hands are full I can do head tosses to move it front to back or vice versa. And sometimes, I accept the detangling that results from having it down in conditions where it would be more sensible to have it up...
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Heh. My hair was already past knee when these threads were created (I think). Routine has been the same since past classic.
7. Any tips or encouragement.
Find a routine that works and is sustainable for you. Enjoy it, wear it up or down as you please.

Aw that is so sweet. For years I hated my hair color, because it is so ashy (really like the inside of an ash tray). I went all the way from blue/black to blond; had all natural colors you can imagine, and still I was never satisfied and so impulsive with it, even when I came here. The first years I messed up my hair badly with dye, even natural dyes. After a hair disaster where I had a chemical cut & burn, I learned my lesson and just let it grow, and grow, and grow. That is why it took me 10 years to reach classic length here, when I could have reached it much sooner.
Oh well, you live and learn!
Sadly, maybe, it is a "cut" hemline, so they are layers I have cut in with the ponytail on the forehead method (from the book, "Haircutting for dummies"), it is not natural in the least. I need to have layers or waist would be my cut-off point.
But those are really nice things to say. Thank you *so* much! :flower:

Well, I suppose I have a few question specifically for those who are in this thread. 1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
I'm currently about half-way between mid-thigh and knee. I mostly wear it in buns and braids, so for the most part it's not so different from what it's been since around waist length, except that the buns are easier to make and bigger, and my braids can get in the way. I do get a lot more comments about my length though.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
If I wear it down or a braid, it can, but I've developed ways to cope as it grew, so it's a very minor annoyance.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
Not any more than it was before. The only thing is that I'm more careful about avoiding tangles, because it does take a lot longer to detangle.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
It was really curiosity as to how long I could grow that brought me to this length. Now my hair is longer than I'm comfortable with (that happened around fingertip length, since that's when I started regularly sitting on my braids and when separating strands got harder as my hair is now longer than my arms), but I kinda want to to reach knee before cutting back to a more comfortable length.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
I can be a little annoying, but mostly it's HOT. It's basically a blanket at this point, so I don't normally wear it down unless it's drying (and even then I often get impatient and end up putting it up after a while). I still do wear it down to sleep however.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
No, I've been using benign neglect ever since I was a preteen.
(I would donate my hair if I do)
Growing to these lengths does take a long time, but it also allows you to get used to it and to learn slowly how to take care of longer hair. To me, the main difference compared to lengths from waist to tailbone is how it looks, so if that's what you want, you can do it.

Thank you loved ready all this new information. I can't wait to read more replies!! :)

I'm currently about half-way between mid-thigh and knee. I mostly wear it in buns and braids, so for the most part it's not so different from what it's been since around waist length, except that the buns are easier to make and bigger, and my braids can get in the way. I do get a lot more comments about my length though.
If I wear it down or a braid, it can, but I've developed ways to cope as it grew, so it's a very minor annoyance.
Not any more than it was before. The only thing is that I'm more careful about avoiding tangles, because it does take a lot longer to detangle.
I can be a little annoying, but mostly it's HOT. It's basically a blanket at this point, so I don't normally wear it down unless it's drying (and even then I often get impatient and end up putting it up after a while). I still do wear it down to sleep however.
No, I've been using benign neglect ever since I was a preteen.
Growing to these lengths does take a long time, but it also allows you to get used to it and to learn slowly how to take care of longer hair. To me, the main difference compared to lengths from waist to tailbone is how it looks, so if that's what you want, you can do it.
Thank you I appriacte your answer I love reading these I know there a bit time consuming to type so thank you!

1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
(Classic) It's not much different than my previous milestone (TBL), since I wear my hair up all the time anyway.
2. Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
I dread wash days (twice a week) because my hair, whether attached to my head or not, tends to plaster itself all over me in the shower and it's extremely unpleasant sensation for me.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
Not at all. :)
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
I would like to grow a little longer to fingertip length because that's the perfect hair length to me. I don't think my hair would suit lengths longer than that. But we'll see. :)
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Yup. My hair tangles very easily and is very delicate/prone to breakage... so unfortunately wearing it down is usually not an option.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Nope!
7. Any tips or encouragement.
Enjoy your hair at every milestone!!! :) (I wish I had!)

Intresesting I normally always wear my hair down. Only really put it up in a pineapple to sleep in my silk cap. And on windy days I would normally braid it. I love to feel my hair on my back loose.

I used to exclusively wear my hair down too when it was at around hip length and shorter for the same reason as you, but between sitting on my own hair constantly and other people sitting on my hair... it's much safer up in a bun now.

1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
classic was fun, not much different but it feels great as a milestone. Midthigh has been so hard. its fun for sure but the tickles down my legs/knee pit is really strange. I just want to make it to knee-then i'm 'done'! lol (yeah right)
2. Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
for my lab, i have to braid it back or risk chemical spills. now, at 50" i finally sit on my braid tastle so that braid now has to go somewhere or risk damage...haven't figured out a solution yet. once you do get here, and it is part of the growing stage, you end up learning/finding places to place the hair. Its what i now call my 'tail' because at midthigh it became its own independent thing. i see how people name their hair at this stage, becasue you have to make sure its not running off and getting into trouble-just like a toddler. its not hard, but you grow into it.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
Not at all!!! one wash a week, and daytime braid it down. its so much less work than short hair ever was!
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
The goal of knee. it just looks magical. i'll go back higher after i get there. i just need to get there first.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Once it passed arms length, yes. i was a permanent downer (lol) before that length. Also, with my job I can't. But now i get some stares because i've passed 'long' to the public, and its better to go out in disguise than be a spectacle. i'm self conscious.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Nope. its all the same. recently i started the first co-wash before i even get in the shower to save water during the first stage of the scrub down, and its still warm for the shower part of the shower. lol i cwc
7. Any tips or encouragement.
its more of the same from classic on out. enjoy it! all of it! stick with what works and it won't suddenly become a nightmare or anything. its worth it.

1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
Somewhere around FTL for me right now, and I just noticed this morning that I seem to have already largely adjusted to it being "too long". Classic is no problem, but somewhere between there and FTL it starts getting long enough that I can't reach the end while combing, and the ends don't weigh enough to finish pulling themselves through. So instead of a one-handed task, with the other free for stubborn snarls, it becomes a two-handed task -- one to comb, one to pull the length down so the ends release (and still deal with stubborn snarls on the side). If you can overcome that little adaptation, it's basically the same as any other shorter length.
2. Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
No more than it did before. But I can't stand it being down and loose and tickling my neck and wrapping around my arms, so I virtually never wear it down, at any length. Buns can be a problem with headrests, but that's been the case for as long as I've made them. If anything, they actually might be less of a problem now, since I can let the bun stay a little looser (and thus flatter), because there's enough length left to hold it even without being cinched up tightly.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
Again, no more than before. There does seem to be a sweet spot for tangle-free, somewhere around BSL, but longer (or even shorter!) than that, and it's much the same. If I were to leave it loose and let it get all tangled, it would certainly take longer to get it out now than it did when it was shorter, but with it always braided and/or bunned, that's not an issue.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
Routine? Stubbornness? Curiosity? I'm not really sure. It's just what I've always done -- grow until I get sick of it, do a substantial chop, and grow again. There are certain styles that just don't work as well without enough hair, too... And more recently, it's become "fun" showing people up when they say my hair is so long, it's all the way to <some shorter length>, and then they see the true length. And there's one relative who's taken to telling me how it's a weed and too long and don't I think it's time to cut it, which is really starting to annoy me. It used to be a joke, but now it's become constant. So the stubborn streak is kicking in. That said, I have been debating trimming it a bit, since the ends have become a bit scraggly with the FTL transition.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Totally down, yes. But as mentioned, that's the case for me at any length. Down in a ponytail, it's been so long since I did that, but I do remember last grow-around that it started becoming harder to keep it out of the way at some point, maybe hip or classic? Braided, it can get quite a bit longer before it takes any attention (subconscious or otherwise), and even then, it's also easier to deal with, I just drape it over one or both shoulders, and it stays a lot better than a loose ponytail.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Not between threads, no. But the minor tweak to combing around FTL as I mentioned. At some point I started doing a double-wrap LWB, but I don't remember when, and that hardly counts. Even the hair toys aren't a big change. I can still use most of the shorter ones (except the shortest, but they didn't work well anyhow). The longest ones don't look quite as ridiculously helicopter-head, so they're easier to work with now, and the skinny ones don't work as well if the length isn't braided, but that's minor.
7. Any tips or encouragement.
If it starts annoying you, give it a couple weeks <edit> (Actually, I'm going to modify this. Give it at least a month, maybe two, so the newness can wear off and you can see if it's true frustration. As a reference, when I did my cuts, usually I would wait until the next time late spring/early summer came around, when it was warm enough to not want the hair blanket but not too hot to have it down for a while, so sometimes it was most of a year later. And even then, it was assuming I had time and could find someone to do it without charging an arm and a leg.) <end of edit> and see if it passes. If you're still too frustrated, a trim or even a chop isn't the end of the world, and it'll be that much easier the next time it gets as long because you already have practice. But, it you specifically want it to get even longer, no, trimming/chopping sure won't help you get there any faster! So think about which is more important to you each time a troublesome stage comes up.
Also, practice braiding. Once it gets to hip or classic, it starts taking a while to get the whole length braided, even when it's one fat English braid... Especially if/when taper starts kicking in. So you'll want to be able to braid quickly!

Ok I will have more negative responses.
1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
I am somewhere between FTL and mid thigh. It garners a lot of attention when worn down so I have to be prepared for that. People can say some dumb things.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
When I wear it down, which is rare, I have to wrap it around my neck and tuck the tail in my shirt when I use the restroom. If I am sweaty, this is not the most pleasant thing. I have sat on it, had other people sit on it, knelt on it, stepped on it when I stoop over, etc. I mostly do not wear it loose but I do prefer to air dry so it is down a while after washes. I wore it loose for graduation and it got all folded into the grad gown and was a bit of a pain but worth it.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
Just a bit more than maybe hip length. Detangling can be time consuming.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
I threaten to cut it every week. Right now it is the longest it has ever been so I am curious. Plus it is tickling the backs of my legs when I wear shorts which is fun. I could never feel my hair until it hit TBL, then nothing again until now. I am surprised at how good of shape the ends are in at this length and am curious about knee and beyond. Plus, I use my hair to help people remember me, like in networking. I wear my hair down strategically sometimes. It can get me that added bit of attention that makes me memorable. why not.
Also, cutting won't make it easier to care for so I may as well grow because I will never cut back above hip probably ever again, barring the unforeseen.
Oh, and trying to catch up with SarahLabyrinth! My hair used to be longer than hers before my big chop. ha ha.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Can be. I don't wear it down usually. I cannot wear it down and do any chores, etc. It gets in my britches when I pull them up. I had to modify my car LOL. I typically throw my hair over the back of whatever chair I am in and sometimes I hit people with it (anyone in the back seat of my car). I still shut it in the car door occasionally. Hair + Wind = BAD. I wrap it around my hand until I get inside. It is super staticky in winter and cannot be worn loose at all, not even in a pony or braid.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
I am always changing things.
Since about TBL, I no longer contain my hair when I sleep. I just throw it over the end of my bed instead. I used to wear sleep caps I made but I dislike wearing them now. Sleeping in a braid gives me a headache ad sleeping in a bun is a mystery to me.
I bun when wet before detangling sometimes and it will sit like that all day, then gets tossed aside overnight before I detangle when it is finally dry. I don't do this in the winter.
I actually wash more often. Probably every 3 days. Seems greasier these days.
I still experiment with products. I just found a new lovely product called Biotera 5-in-1 cleansing conditioner :)
I don't feel the need to trim the ends as often because, at this length, a tidy hemline doesn't matter much with my hair thinness.
I do double wrapped buns and have had to use two sticks to hold my buns now. One stick rarely holds long. Forks are better but they have a totally different look.
I cannot do half-ups at all anymore.
Double secured buns hold better but I worry about damage (pony first).
BrownEyedSusan recently showed me how to modify my homemade U pins to hold better and I was gifted a lovely set of celtic-looking double-tined pins that hold magnificently well (the gifter can out herself if she wants). I also just ordered a new double twisted stick I am anxious to try.
7. Any tips or encouragement. I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow.
There seem to be sweet spots. TBL is a nice one. Then I hate it until FTL. Now that I am finally past FTL, it seems to be in a sweet spot again. So if you really hate a length, try waiting it out.
Change the buns you do. Different buns hold better at different lengths. You can also control how long the tail is by how much you twist the hair as it is being wrapped.
If you are thinking about cutting, make a good list. When I did this, I realized most of my complaints would not go away with shorter hair unless it was severely shorter.
ASK people you care about. No one seemed to care much about my hair, but my dad and my husband both gave me such lovely compliments lately that I can't cut now! My dad said it is 'cool' and unique and people will remember me for it. My husband said "I know it is a pain but I like it" and what matters to him is what ultimately means the most to me besides my own opinion.
If you want to WOW people, put your hair up in less than 5 seconds while people are watching. They find it fascinating LOL. It will make you feel like a superstar.

I could have written all of this. On the comments, I go with the assumption that most people making stupid comments out of ignorance rather than malice...less stress for me that way.
Being attention getting and memorable is usually good (in my bitter bus driver years, a complaint about "that long haired **** on the 30" would be correctly delivered to me...), but usually, it is positive interactions with people who recognize me from decades past...with hair as the identifying feature links things I did...to me now.
I've gotten better at not throwing my hair at people, but sometimes kinda on purpose someone gets a faceful of hair. Priceless, the expressions on people's faces after they ask how long it is and I respond with the 20 second stick pull and re-bun.

I'm also agreeing with WaitingSoLong's responses. Those are definitely some facts of life with long hair. But at least for me, it's not a problem (generally), it just is. Like having to shower and put on clean clothes. You just do it.
I suppose but at that point I might end up putting it in front of me when I sit which I normally do anyway.
There comes a point where, even in front of you, it's still in the way, because it tangles up in/between your legs. So you'll still have to do something more to contain it, whether it's flipping up the hem of your shirt into a temporary pocket to hold it, or combining a draped loop down your back with the rest in front, or whatever works for you.

I think I'm going to answer these questions too. I might have answered them when I last hit classic, IDK.
But... here goes...
1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
I have just reached classic, and I know classic is my comfortable length, my "sweet spot" if you will. I have not yet successfully grown longer, so we'll see. It's a journey. I am in the no-trimming thread for 2018, so I'm gonna have to do it. I will allow myself a trim between the no-trimming of 2018&19, but we'll see if I need it.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
No, because I put it up when I'm up. At night it is down, because it's easy for me.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No, like I said it's a very comfortable length for me. Wash day is a bit of a "chore" but my mom helps me with that, and then the rest of the week it's just put it up in a LWB (lazy wrap bun) when I'm up and... done!
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
I just am ready for a longer length. I don't know what it is but I have totally gone off trimming since I cut it from classic back to hip in November 2016. I had had classic from September 2015 when I first hit that goal, up to that date, and just on impulse cut it all off (well to hip). I could barely put it up in a bun. I just prefer it longer and I want to see where it takes me and if I can indeed grow longer than my comfort length.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
I only wear it down at night. Going "potty" is a bit of a challenge, but I pull it to the front ATM and that works.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Nope. I just have the same routine, washing routine, wear it loose at night, put it up during the day. Same same.
7. Any tips or encouragement. I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow.
I'm not sure. It all depends. Some of us are "snip"-happy and you can't have that if you want to get to this point. I suggest joining a few no trimming challenges (divided into 2 halves as well). See where you can get to! Each length comes with its very own challenges, maybe a different bun you need to suddenly start wearing, IDK. I have been wearing a LWB (lazy wrap bun) since hip, since I could wear a bun and it still functions.

I'm also agreeing with WaitingSoLong's responses. Those are definitely some facts of life with long hair. But at least for me, it's not a problem (generally), it just is. Like having to shower and put on clean clothes. You just do it.
Yup, this. Or it gets in your food, your friends' food, in your pocket... the possibilities are endless! :p

I suppose but at that point I might end up putting it in front of me when I sit which I normally do anyway.
Until it is long enough to stay pooled in your lap, it will just find its way back behind you. I have to say that now it is long enough that, if I am in a chair, I can move it over the edge and it stays there dangling off to the side. This does not work in cars and seatbelts cause issues.

I'm here because I lurk, reading stuff and admiring pics ;)

I wouldn't Mind cause I'm not that far along yet so sure!
Ok! :)
1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
I'm at classic, which is my final goal. When I started I had BSL hair and I thought CL would look and feel long. Now, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. When My ends were very thin I didn't really feel that my hair was long and I didn't perceive it as long. Now, as the ends are getting thicker, I finally get the long hair feeling and when I look at my hair in the mirror or in the pictures I do see it as long.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Not at all, but I wear it up 99% of the time.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No. My routine would look almost the same if I had much shorter hair. I just wash it and let it air dry. My routine isn't strictly, directly and only shaped by the length. I take care of my hair because I like the process and I like having healthy hair. If for some reason my ultimate goal was a much shorter hair, let's say BSL, my routine would still look the same there.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
This is the length at which I perceive my hair as long and get the "I have long hair" feeling. So I won't go shorter. On the other hand, I won't go longer because: 1. my ends wouldn't be thick enough at greater length and 2. CL is the last point at which I'm able to reach my ends when I apply a conditioner and a serum (I slide both palms along the length). Beyond CL, maintenance would be difficult. Pressing a conditioner into the strands and applying silicone serum to the ends is crucial for my hair's health, so I want to be able to do it.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Yes, but not really because of the length. With my hair type, it becomes a struggle from waist down, or even earlier.
I have very light hair. The advantage is that my buns don't give me headaches or anything. The disadvantage is that, as opposed to silky, sleek, heavier hair, my hair flies around. It doesn't stay being my back, it doesn't stay tucked behind my ears. It just slides around my shoulders to the front. When it was shorter, I had it it my face. Now I have it in my face (the tickling is a struggle! :D ) and, since it reaches below a kitchen counter, a desk etc. and it reaches below my elbows, it gets in the way when I'm doing stuff like chopping food, bending over a desk to sign something etc.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
No.
7. Any tips or encouragement. I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow.
Try to figure out what you want. Is it x-lenght hair? Is it long hair, whatever that means? My goal was a blend of these factors. I started at BSL and at that time wanted waist (as far as I remember), then TBL, then jumped to aiming at knee and then went back up to classic. Classic is what I expected it to be, it gives me all the satisfaction and joy and happiness I expected and wanted (provided that my ends aren't see through) and I enjoy it. It feels like home, I want to stay there.
Try to figure out what you want and then check it against major possible problems, like "but will it be too heavy in a bun?" or "I want to wear it mostly down, will I be able to do it comfortably?" etc. You'll find a perfect length in between it all that will be both satisfying and easy to maintain :)

Well I am very tempted to do a 2" trim. That's about 5 months growth for me. My ends are pretty brittle and I have been finding splits. I did an S&D the other day but the ends are just...bad. It really needs 4'" off but I could not do so much at once right now. Or maybe I will do an inch and then see. :scissors: Absolutely NO ONE but me will care

Well, I suppose I have a few question specifically for those who are in this thread.
1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
I came to LHC with raggedy TBL hair so in terms of actually caring for it, I'm not sure I really have anything to fairly compare it to - LHC-style care is quite different from my ignorant neglect before! Lengthwise, the extra length gives me enough to wrap around so that even with slippery hair, wrapped buns stay put ... mostly. It's quite fun when the children at school catch a glimpse when a bun falls out and I have to rebun  It doesn't feel super-long to me, but outside of LHC I find it's rare to see longer than about TBL (and even that isn't exactly common where I live), so there is a bit of 'wow' factor when people see it :o Even though my hair is nothing notable on LHC; I think it is more the length that surprises people than anything else!
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Not at all. I bun it almost all the time, unless I'm tending to it or letting it dry. I usually wash at night though so I'm only doing things with it down for a short while before going to bed. OH! Except for wearing hats. I find braids to be damaging (they shred instantly, so all the ends throughout the length are exposed to the elements and potential friction) but I can't do a low enough bun to stay out of the way of hats. Though my life now with health issues doesn't include very much time out in the sun anyway
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No, but like I said it's not an amazing head of hair so I suppose I could put more work into maintaining it if I wanted. I wash it according to my washing schedule, airdry overnight, detangle each morning and bun it in the daytime - simple! Plus the occasional deep treatment if it needs it or if I feel like it. I'm not currently trimming, but when I do start to trim again next year, I'll do it myself. I suppose if I ever get rid of the majority of my taper, I might need a hand to check the hemline is even, but for now my ends are so thin I can trim with literally one or two chops with the scissors
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
Knee to me was initially a fantasy - I saw that it was possible for some people and thought 'wow, that would be amazing'. I was already at TBL with not-quite-so-benign neglect, and as I passed classic, then fingertip ... I started to think I might actually be able to get there. And then once knee became a likely achievable goal, the thought of calf crossed my mind ... heh. LHC-itis indeed! I hope I can get to calf with a decent hemline, and if that is possible, I'll probably just grow to wherever I can have a satisfactory hemline and the length is still manageable for me.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
I didn't really wear my hair down much before, because it got in the way and got tangled. That still applies, so I guess my answer is yes. It floats, gets in the way, gets tangled - but if I wore it down I would never have got to this length anyway. I'm happy to be able to wear it in styles that are both practical for me and protective :)
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
I totally overhauled my routine but that was due to finding LHC rather than any change in length.
7. Any tips or encouragement.
Hmm, I suppose just to do what works best for you and your hair. For example: while my routine definitely could be improved to be more delicate with my hair, it suits my life, my priorities, and works well *enough* for my hair. Your goals will also depend on whether you want to be able to wear your hair down, or do certain styles, etc. I personally quite like having this secret length packed away on the back of my head :o At the moment my enjoyment comes from periodically noticing it's growing, looking after it much better than I ever used to, and the anticipation of an improved hemline once I start trimming. Also, some of it is getting on for 8 years old, with not even 2 years' worth of LHC care so I also look forward to improved condition as I continue looking after it. There are different aspects of the growing to enjoy along the way :D
If you decide you do want to continue growing, while you may decide on an ultimate goal, look forward to the milestones and improvements on the way. For me knee was a distant dream, but while I wasn't even aiming for it I just happened to find myself on track for it. It's also important to bear in mind the reality of it - for me, having a full, blunt hemline at these kinds of lengths is not a realistic goal! Neither is having head-eating buns, because I just don't have the thickness for that. So work with what your hair is and what it does, and enjoy the journey - it's great to support others in their growing and to share experiences, but never forget that your own hair is unique and beautiful in its own ways :flower:
[Sorry, that last one was a bit of a disjointed ramble. The brainpower is running low! But hopefully it makes some kind of sense.]

Yes you did make sense I really enjoy reading in this thread. And some day being a part of it. For now I'll just stalk till I can call classic. I am thinking of not going on to knee. My growth rate is just so slow, 1/3" per month at best. As of now, past FTL nearing mid-thigh, it would still be mid-2020 before I could reach knee with the hem trims I would need.
So, I am leaning toward cutting back to FTL and maybe staying there indefinitely. Still thinking.

Or, you could just leave it be. If the hem is do-able still (to you), why not see where you land? It's going to be 2020 before you know it. I don't know if that is encouraging at all. You'll have to decide for yourself.
I am going towards thigh/FTL at this moment. I might change my tune as to the length of it once I get to thigh/FTL myself.

1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
Sometime after Classic your hair gets longer than your arms and you have to change your brushing style to compensate. You start sitting on your hair, which has diminishing returns on entertainment value (for you, anyway..) from here on down. People approach you with "wow, your hair is really long!" and are perplexed when you're not as excited about this shocking revelation as they are.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Yeah, it's pretty floaty if I wear it down. See below for more on that. I wear it up or braided a lot. I've taken to wearing ponytails more now, though.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No. I really do practice a lot of benign neglect. I'm not even oiling at all these days. I henna every couple of months and wash every 7-10 days.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
I really enjoy this length. I like how it looks with my body. I like how it feels. I don't mind maintaining it, and I don't want the work of a short hairstyle.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Henrietta's response really covers it:
Yes, but not really because of the length. With my hair type, it becomes a struggle from waist down, or even earlier.
I have very light hair. The advantage is that my buns don't give me headaches or anything. The disadvantage is that, as opposed to silky, sleek, heavier hair, my hair flies around. I laughingly call my hair a party girl on e, because when it's down it wants to reach out and touch everything in my radius.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Nope. I did pick up a few tricks though.
7. Any tips or encouragement. I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow.
Don't get hung up on gaining a certain length. Just go along and appreciate the stages, and experiment with hairstyles up and down to see how you like your hair in each one. Because my lifestyle has intentionally changed my habits to less-protective hairstyles, I am accepting the fact that mechanical damage is severely hampering the progress to knee, especially because I've also stepped up efforts to S&D the additional damage. Even so, I'm getting more enjoyment out of my hair on a daily basis and to me this is more important than achieving my terminal length by protecting it all the way there. My hair currently gravitates between tailbone and fingertip length depending on how motivated I am to do larger trims (at this point around twice a year).

1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
Pretty awesome. It's between FTL and knee right now and I love the feel of it brushing my thighs.
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Well, I wear it up every day, so, no.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
It' been pretty much benign neglect for the past 6 months. I've been busy with life so i haven't even S and Ded in some time. Wash every 5 to 7 days. I use condish first o get the oil out of the length, then wash (usually twice) and gently squeeze out water. then I dip most of the length in catnip tea and pour the rest over my head. baby oil to damp ends. Air dry, then up it goes.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
I'm curious what terminal is, and wonder if I really can grow just 3 more inches to get to knee. I do love FTL. If I had to choose a forever length, that would be it.
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Have to be very careful to not sit on it, pull it, damage it in any way. I rarely wear it down, maybe once a month out in the world. My ends are thin and I'm self conscious about it. Sometimes I curl the ends to make the last foot appear fuller.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
Been doing the same routine for 4 years and it works for me.
7. Any tips or encouragement. I'm still on the fence of how long I want to grow.

OMG that is a huge chunk off. But it looks awesome and really thick at the bottom. And the most important thing is that you are enjoying the length it has. When I went from classic to hip November 2016 (I even remember the date, ouch!) I wasn't such a happy camper, but I grew it back and reached classic again June 2018 (without trimming). What I mean to say is, if you want it back, it will grow back! Meanwhile, it looks *great*!

She did cut off a bit much but it was the actual choppiness of the cut that was terrible. I had it fixed Friday and it is ok now, I am at waist-length and happy with it. Not as lovely as super-long but the ease of care is such a relief for me!
This happened to me a couple years ago. It was the craziest messed up haircut! I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed and then a few months later to even it out more. At least it does grow back!
A few years ago, I joined this thread because I grew my hair to upper-thigh. I'm now around tailbone, considering growing to classic again.

I am enjoying it, a lot actually. I feel free from 'the hair' (this is what I called it to DH). Yes it was a big chuck, 16," but I do not miss it at all yet. Maybe I will in time.
The lady who fixed my hair was really nice (if a bit talky). She wowed over the natural highlights in my hair and its health, asked me if it was natural, and what I used. When I told her Pantene, I got the usual tsk  I never understood why people praise my hair them chastise my products? LOL. Obviously Pantene keeps my hair in good condition so...:p

Thank you so much, cathair! I think I maintained the V hemline for 6-8 months before going no-trim, I wanted to get the worst of the damage gone and I think I did. I hope this isn't (too) creepy- I've been watching your progress in the microtrimming thread with great interest and you're making strides already!
WSL you look like a million bucks and I'm so glad it turned out happy for you! I'm vicariously imagining how amazing it must feel to run your hands through it easily, and flip it this way and that :D

I feel like I belong in this thread now, since my ends have thickened a little, lol
1. What is it like having CL, Mid Thigh, Knee length hair?
I love it, I didn't love it as much when my ends were transparent and scraggly. My hair finally feels *long*, I've always wanted to have super-long hair ever since I was a small child and I feel like I'm well on my way! Since it's only classic length, and my hair is so thin, I don't think people see it as impressive, but that's not really my goal anyway, lol
2.Does it ever get in the way of your everyday life?
Only when I wear it down, because I can sit on it and my cats see it as a toy, lol. I don't usually do that though.
3. Is it hard to maintain?
No more than at any other length. The hardest thing is rinsing product out of my hair, but that's always been a problem because my shower has very low water pressure.
4. What makes you want to grow longer/ stay where you are now?
Since long hair suits me more than shorter hair, as I have a long, angular face, I want to see how long I can grow it! My mother always said our thin hair wouldn't look good long, but I think I might be able to achieve it lol
5. Is it a struggle to wear your hair down?
Somewhat, because I can sit on it now and it's starting to get to a length where I receive comments from strangers. However, it's manageable, and I prefer to wear it up anyways.
6. Did you have to change your routine in anyway once you got into this thread from the one before?
One change I made to get to this thread was to change my shampoo to a cone-free one. Cones had been stalling my growth! Also, I've been wearing my hair braided a lot more because it's getting more difficult to keep my buns up. That's always been a struggle for my fine hair, I'll get used to it eventually though.
7. Any tips or encouragement.
I highly recommend microtrimming over big chops if your goal is to thicken your hemline, every time I've chopped, the taper grew back. Don't give up! There may be unexpected reasons behind slow growth or thin ends!

Hello everyone! I have had a change in my hair and am wondering if any of you have experienced something similar.
I used to have out here a lot, a long time ago. I went on to other interests, and I've just been doing the same ol' same ol' to my hair for years. It's worked great and I haven't thought about it much. Basically I just CO wash 2-3 times a week with Sauve Essentials, a bit of Sauve Essentials as a leave in, and deep condition with Joico KPack (sp?) when it feels like it needs it. Braid it or bun it and go. Simple! I think I'm a few inches past classic... Almost thumbtip but not quite yet.
In the past 1-2 months it feels like my hair needs something but I don't know what. I did a deep moisturizing treatment last night and it's as if I didn't do anything at all -- no noticeable change in feel or look. From the waist down feels really dry still. Maybe it feels like what damaged hair feels like? I have never colored my hair and haven't permed it in a couple of decades (LOL) so I don't remember what that feels like.
I have tried searching the boards and haven't had much luck so far. I am wondering if I should try Joico reconstructing treatment (protein?). Because I haven't been hanging out here, and because the archives are so vast, I feel lost as to where to find suggestions for my situation.
Thanks in Advance for any help that anyone has!!

I had something similar going on recently and fixed it by clarifying and chelating.
Suave's daily clarifying seems to be recommended often, I just use gobs of my shea moisture shampoo all the way down to the ends and let it sit a minute.
I have to chelate about 1x a month since I moved to well water and all I do is add about 1/4 cup lemon juice to an equal amount of my conditioner, shake it up and slather it on really thick, leave it sit for 5-10 mins and rinse well in cool water. Citrus will make you more sun-sensitive so cover up or sunscreen up if going outside!
My results are silky soft, tangle free hair every time- I love it!
HTH, your siggy pic is lovely!

Hello VHF, that's interesting. You could well be on to something. I moved in April and I thought the water tasted so awful that I don't even use it for cooking without filtering it. Maybe that's what's going on. I have some clarifying Suave conditioner and will give that a try.
Thanks for the compliment on my pic... I don't have a current one, I ought to do that. I checked and my hair is an inch or two past my fingertips. I honestly don't pay much attention to it these days. I've decided to let it go to terminal before my gray gets too noticeable!

Thank you veryhairyfairy. It is pre LHC hair that occasionally I find splits and have to s&d. I try not to focus too much on my hair. The no trimming has helped me gain length.

Difference in water can definitely do *something* to the hair, but then you should have it all over, no? I agree with previous poster and would clarify (a good strong sulfate shampoo, preferably one that says "clarirying" on the label, but not necessary in a pinch). Then follow up with a good conditioner and it should feel a little better. Sometimes you have to do this a few times (on your regular wash days, no need to wash sooner or more times in a row).
Good luck! & Welcome back!

Wow, Kat! You have come a long ways! Congratulations on reaching your milestone! I'm like you, the "No-Trimming Challenge," has also helped me gain length as well! I only do S&D's once or twice a year, and with that I only take off 1cm which is only the tips of my ends, and that is very rare. Because, I very rarely get any damaged hairs or splits. From taking good care of my hair.

:agree: Certainly sounds like a water issue to me- do you get white film on your pots, sink faucets, or etc?
Swimmer's shampoo is formulated to clarify and chelate in one step, so if you're buying products that's a good one to invest in.
Glad to have you here! :)

Thanks everyone. I never worried about chelating before, I had to do some research. Beside the clarifying conditioner, I have some Suave clarifying shampoo on hand and will try that first -- I haven't shampooed my hair in a couple of years. It that doesn't help I will may try ACV, or maybe actually buy something haha.
In the last few months I did try some old coney products before tossing them. Maybe I tried them enough that I got some buildup. So I'll go with the cheapest option (free) first and go from there.
veryhairyfairy, I'm in Colorado and water tends to be hard here as a rule. The online report for my very small water district shows hardness levels in the 'soft' range, But I know from my fishkeeping that the hardness and Ph can swing dramatically from week to week as they rotate their pumps (most of the water here comes from the aquifer).

Protective, contained styles using hair-friendly accessories - or, in plain-speak, buns with hairforks or hairsticks
For me, it made the most difference - it meant the ends didn't get too damaged and ratty and have to be chopped off every year. I actually got past tailbone length for the first time ever once I stopped using hair elastics (even the ones without metal caused damage for me) - before that I genuinely thought my hair just didn't grow longer than that. Now I'm closing in on knee length - how wrong I was! Thank goodness :)

Oh, I can't wait until my hair is long enough to use hair sticks! I used to have hip length hair but I kept dying it with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, which was a horrible idea, and I decided to cut it to about BSL. I ended up cutting it again because of repeated mechanical damage with hair bands. After that I learned my lesson and switched to scrunchies!

Detangling my hair properly has been the only way I could get to this length, my fine hair loves to form giant mats at the back of my head and smaller tangles at the front (which are somehow harder to brush out). The wetbrush has been a godsend lol, it's the only brush that doesn't tear my hair out!

I wash ,then let my hair dry and use my fingers to gently work out the knots. I do the same prior to washing. These days I sometimes forget where my brush even is located!! So even if I wanted to use the brush or comb, I end having to use my fingers cause it's hard to lose them. (lol). My favorite thing to do is the work my hair one handed while driving the 45 minutes to work where I braid it in the parking garage. I let the window down each time I get a shed hair and let the wind drag it out and away. That way I don't have a brush to clean out after detangling and pick up all the hairs off my uniform prior to work.

Hello everyone! I'm here to give an update. I reached 130 cm (51 inches), which was close to Knee length when dry and brushing Knee length when wet. However, lately I've been feeling very bad about my ends - how thin and wispy they look. And it's been like that for the last few years, no matter what length I was at, because I never really cut more than 1-2 cm at a time. But now, almost at Knee, they really looked worst than ever. So I decided there's no point in keeping them if they don't make me happy. I cut 10 cm for the first time since 2013. I'm back at 120 cm (47 inches) which is Mid-thigh length on me. Ironically, I haven't had such nice ends since I was at hip length. I'm happier now and hoping that when I reach Knee again, it will be with better ends. The first pic is a month ago, showing how my ends almost disapper. All other pictures are from yesterday after the trim.

Heeey! You're welcome! :) Yes, I know whatcha mean about not having that much change to post lately. Yes, I've also noticed in the knee+thread that it has been quiet lately too! Maybe everybody's hair is growing much slower these days instead of growing faster...lol. I haven't had that much to report on change either. I had to do a S&Ding this year. I had to trim back 1cm from WL back up to MBL :( because of dry ends. Because, at the end of the year I'm hoping to reach HL.

I had to do a S&Ding this year. dry ends have gotten me too this summer. its been a wet one, but its also been hard to keep the humidity from drying out my kinky frizzy hair

Just had a chuckle to myself imagining a person discovering a hugely long, blonde hair wafting towards them on the breeze :ponder:  lol!!

yeah, it's also been a wet one on my end as well. Yes, I also hate the humidity that comes along with the wet weather too.
what i try to do is keep it moisturized by doing deep conditioning treatments twice a week, and also moisturizing with essential oils.

I LOC/LCO'd this week with Aunt Jackie's Quench leave-in and boy it's quite moisturizing. It's not a bad leave-in, but again it doesn't pair well with gel that much. It's how I'm keeping my ends moisturized, LOC/LCO method and rinse-out oil. It works for me.

Actually I've always found it easier since my hair doesn't dry out as easily. Although I don't care for really high humidity since then my hair takes forever to dry after washing.

My hair loves humidity! The only time I can call it 1b, with the slightest trace of body and not pasted flat to my head. I don't care how long it takes to dry, it's worth it for that one day that it isn't boringly stick straight.

My hair does better in the humidity as well. Where I live, it's always between 80-90% humidity, year round. My hair has always been really frizzy, before moving here, before stopping S/C, so that doesn't bother me. The only time the humidity affects my hair negatively is in the winter when the humidity goes up a little further and temperatures go down, so my hair has a hard time drying.

I kind of thought the same way at first but didn't have the patience to flat iron my hair. I just had hair that insisted on going it's own way. Now I enjoy the waviness and, of course, wish it was more curly. We always want just what we haven't got?

Congrats, TatsuOni!
I think I need to come up with a new combing technique. Either that, or I need to trim back a bit, which I've been debating for a while anyhow, to even the ends up a bit. They're actually not anywhere near as thin as I was expecting, but it would still be nicer if they were a bit thicker, and with it reaching enough past FTL that the weight isn't compensating for being longer than my arms anymore, maybe it makes sense. Whether I actually do, though, depends on how much time and motivation I can find. So I'm guessing it won't happen. Maybe I'll just have to look up a new, still-quick bun for super-long hair, instead. My double-wrapped LWB is getting increasingly unstable (though the head-eating aspect of is it amazingly entertaining!), but I definitely don't have enough length for triple (!!) wrapping! And I like being able to do some unbraided buns, instead of it always being a braid base.
How do all of you at knee deal with it? Combing, bunning, trimming, etc.

I'm not quite at knee, but long past arm's length. What's your current combing technique? I usually comb with it all over one shoulder, often sitting down and using my thigh as a rest for combing it, then over the scalp, then over a shoulder again to make sure I get everywhere. Or if I'm standing (or wearing something fuzzy like fleece pyjamas) I'll still have it over my shoulder, holding somewhere along the length with one hand to lift it high enough to easily be able to get the comb through. Then I'll comb a bit higher, then build the lengths somewhere above the comb to lift and keep the comb going to the ends. And so on, up to scalp add mentioned above. I have no idea how else to explain it really, it's just something I've done since nearing FTL as it was easier than contorting myself to try reaching the ends!
Trimming, I don't know how I'll do yet. I might try the ponytail under the chin method with the same 'hold and lift' (carefully) to teach the ends. We'll see.
What do you use to secure your double-wrapped LWBs? I find forks much better than sticks, and I can do a single-wrapped bun if I use a 4-pronged Jeter fork. My hair is thinner than yours though, so none of that may help you!

I haven't ever posted a picture of my hair just after waking up from sleep, unbrushed. I usually wash my hair every two weeks and then condition inbetween every 4-5 days or so.
Yesterday evening I just conditioned my hair with a moisturizing conditioner and and then my silicone conditioner to give the slip I love. I let it air dry for 2 hours and then slept with it loose so it could dry. Most of the time I go to sleep with a single English braid but my hair can't dry that way. So here is a picture from first thing this am and then five minutes later after I brushed it.

I've finally reached classic, after what felt like forever at TBL. I don't think I'm going all the way to knee, although there is a tiny part of me that would love to see what terminal looks like - I had elderly female relatives on both sides with ankle length hair, so potentially quite long.
For now, my goal is fingertip, which is only a few inches away. If it's still feeling manageable at that length, I guess I'll just let it do its own thing until it doesn't feel manageable anymore, then reassess.

Joining this thread.. I cut back from FTL to classic in march and now I'm missing the extra length and huge buns. I want to keep my hemline nice and full so I may trim again in March 2019, not sure. Honestly on the fence about whether I should trim back to TBL to get rid of the last of my damage from having bangs, or just keep growing. Aside from that small section my hair is probably in the best shape it's ever been in.

Hey guys, been a while for me since I've been on LHC, spectacularly dropped the ball on the WEO challenge before I wandered away, and now I'm back with some thoughts and questions...
My goal length was FTL, and I've gone an inch or two past that, and I'm finding there are some new challenges related to the length, and maintaining. Now that I'm no longer actively growing I'm getting bored, and I'm thinking about cutting back up to classic or maybe even TBL and growing it out again, rather than trimming to keep it here, to trick my brain into focusing on growth, y'know? I'm also in a big hairstyle rut, getting really bored with the same bun every day, and for some reason I can't get my Ficcares to hold comfortably, which just compounds the rut. :\
On a practical level, I absolutely have to detangle and remove sheds before I wash every single time, or I get a huge mat of all my sheds from about chin length to BSL that takes about an hour (not exaggerating, it literally takes an hour) to brush out. It's not that I'm suddenly shedding strange amounts while washing, just that somehow these last few inches of growth have created some kind of critical mass where shed hairs no longer sort of evenly slide down the length of my hair, they come out my scalp and then coil up and mat like five inches down. Definitely no fun.
In conclusion, I guess I'm finding reaching my goal length to not be as satisfying as I thought it would be, and am even starting to fantasize about cutting it into a long wavy bob or something ridiculous like that. Sorry this has turned out to be a bit of a whiney post, and without even any pictures to make it more entertaining! I have really bad indoor lighting, and will try and get some pictures soon, to make up for my pity party post. :D

Oh, I know. When I joined here, I was growing back to hip, which was about the longest it had ever been, and the longest I could imagine it being manageable at. Better care has definitely made it more feasible (as, to be honest, has the considerable loss of thickness in the intervening years), but "goal" has definitely become a bit of a loose concept at this stage.
