I checked after yesterday morning's cleansing and I've reached Classic when wet! :joy: YAY! I had figured I would be there by August, so I'm happy that I'm a little early. Perhaps my workouts have raised my butt up a little :p. Hoping to be Classic when dry by August in any case. I will be getting an inch trim then and then maintaining for awhile with an inch trim every 2-3 mos. till Classic with nice ends ;). I'll get pics posted in August when I reach true Classic, hopefully before and after trim.

congrats Hairitic! I'm going to be an inch above classic for the rest of my life it seems, i finally broke down and trimmed half an inch off a week or so ago (but it looks sooo much better). Also why is it that the longer my hair gets the harder it is to trim even a minuscule amount of it off? I had an extraordinarily hard time getting myself to trim! Is this true for anyone else?

congratulations Hairitic!!

And Hele I'm with you.
I really really don't want to cut anything off, but I think I have to.
Maybe I can stretch it until I reach classic

Even though I know my hair is growing, it feels like it's not. This is giving me motivation! :blossom:

Just tiptoeing in for a minute to admire and to thank you lovely ladies for everything your conversations are teaching me in advance. :) I hope I will be able to join the TBL-to-Classic club sometime around January 2015. Happy growing!

So my hair seems to grow about 1,5 cm (0,59 inches ) in a month. With my long torso and big butt ;) I will need to grow about 20 cm ( 8 inches ) to get to classic . Heh that is 13-14 more month to go. So hopefully next year in september I will reach my goal :D

I've been absent for awhile due to work and grad school, but I'm back now. My hair is just past TB length and I fear it's going into a stall. About 4 months ago I cut 4 inches off, and I'm now back yo where I was before my trim. Ill try to post a pic later, but it's not the best. Actually, the picture prompted my to come back because benign neglect it's not working anymore. My ultimate goal is ftl, but Classic is my next milestone. So I will be joining you and trying more updos.

4 inches in a 4 month ? That is a lot! I hope my hair would grow that fast :(

I'm at classic! Sorry for the terrible webcam pic. :D

As I've mentioned before in this thread, I've been thinking of cutting my hair once I reach classic, back to somewhere around hip-BCL. But right now, looking at this picture, that feels like such a massive cut! I know I want to wear my hair down occasionally, and classic (for me) is too inconvenient for that purpose. But... I've grown all this hair! (It'll grow back if I cut it, of course...)

Then again, the last couple of inches at least are getting a bit dry and splitty. Nothing that S&D and oiling couldn't fix, perhaps, but it might be nice to get my ends all thick by cutting 5in or so. Anyway, I suppose I should put off cutting for a bit longer till I feel totally convinced I should do it.

I haven't cut my hair for 2 years now, so it would be nice to get some fresh ends, but I really want to get to classic first. My hair has finally hit tailbone! The ends are kind of fine, thin, and generally yucky, but when I hold my hand at the end of my tailbone they're still all there. I want to head straight for classic but I also want to thicken up this hemline a little bit.

So my first goal was Waist, my second "oh well maybe i could go further" was TBL, and now im looking at classic... No must restrain myself...

My goal was tailbone, then I got there and was like, "well, maybe classic, but no further." Now that I'm halfway to classic, I catch myself thinking, "...fingertip might not be too long...."

I'm staying around tailbone until the thinner ends have grown out before growing a few more inches to classic. If it happens to go further while I'm not looking......

congratulations Robot Ninja, your hair looks great!

i should be at classic by the end of the year, i'd be there already but i trimmed a couple times because i didn't like how my ends were looking (a major shed early this year left them kind of thin looking). I trimmed a little bit one final time the other night and i'm now maybe an inch and a half away (depending on how wavy my hair feels like being on any given day!) I don't care what it looks like, i'm not trimming again until i'm a bit past classic! :D

Me too! Thinking of fingertip, and, if I can keep reasonable thickness, maybe trying for knee, though couldn't see myself with longer than knee! Classic though is my biggest goal at the moment anyway. Ideally I need to trim about 5" to thicken my ends which are thin from a shed, but I shall achieve this end by micro trims and not via a big chop - that would be way too traumatic:)

I know photos can lie... but honestly your hemline looks amazingly thick allready! :crush: My own hair little too dramaticly thinnes about 8 inches before the ends. So ideally I guess it would be to cut them off. But I kinda have a feeling that even if I cut them now, I will have same results a year later as I have now. So yeah... first the goal lenght and then small monthly trims and hopefully it will help :D

Note: I dye my hair blue/black with pravana vivids, but I used to dye it red some years before, which involved bleach, so my ends look both lighter and more damaged than the rest.
I stopped using dyes about a two months ago, so in a couple of months maybe Ill see some brown on top xP

I think you're right! Fine, wavy-curly, the ends like to float about and do their own thing? I find it's easiest to keep mine braided, but sometimes it's nice because I can get that kind of feral, forest-witchy look just by leaving it down, no teasing required!

Yup, that's me haha
I envy those thick manes sometimes, though. Ever tried driving with the window down on a windy day with your hair loose? The knots are awful. I do get the witch look. You could say its a more delicate princess-like look, too I guess.
My main concern at the moment is the thinness at the ends :/ Each strand is really fine and feels fragile, and my ends are basically see-through at the moment.
I quit using regular store dyes, straightening, and it did help but that's not getting me to classic or knee. The only thing I had left to quit were the Pravana Vivids which I did, but I'm afraid I might not go much longer :(

Omfg. You have no idea how glad I am to find someone with my same hair type and hair goals, even if it means we both share the same issues. I dye my hair black with permanent salon-quality hair color and 10 volume developer, and I'm thinking of switching to a deposit-only dye in case the color I'm using (which seems fairly gentle compared to box dye) is still too harsh. I've tried henna+indigo, which didn't get black enough and was a huge pain in the @$$. I've tried growing out my natural color...nooooo.
Currently I'm trying to just color my roots, and in between do coffee rinses and use a color-depositing conditioner at every wash. Maybe that will help you a little? I think we can both get to at least classic, it might just be very slow progress.

Haha I feel your pain, but I'm glad as well :P.
What's your natural colour? I havent dyed in weeks already and the only way to notice the difference in colour is under a certain light. The odd thing is that before I started dyeing my hair all sorts of colours (about 7 years ago) it used to be brown with some golden highlights, most of the length looked like a honey colour, so it surprises me that now apparently my roots are basically black .-.

I used to be a lot in the sun before, swim in pools and the beach and all that, but still...its positive in the sense that it wont make much of a difference if I stop dyeing it, but it makes it harder to get a lighter colour in case I am eventually bored with mine. Meh...well see :/
I also found around 8 white hairs while brushing it the other day

Also, about henna and indigo, i can only imagine. Just using henna seems like a lot of trouble (though if I were blonde and wanted a red hair Id totally do it), but then applying indigo in top of that...just too much. Plus, Ive read that not everyone gets a jet black colour, so you might end up with red undertones or something, or a brownish colour instead of completely black.

Natural color is blonette/level 6/dirty blonde/whatever you want to call it. It couldn't decide whether it wanted to be brown or blonde, or sometimes even red. I was a strawberry blonde little kid, a golden blonde when I was on the swim team, and then my hair just darkened to a whatever shade that didn't do a thing for me. Coloring it makes me happy :D My roots can look weird, too. Sometimes next to the black they look practically golden, other times they look reddish.

Henndigo made me nuts :/ I like pure black or blue-black hair, and it gave me a persistent red undertone that would not go away. Indoors or in photos it looked true black, but outside or in bright lightning you could definitely see red. I went back to good old synthetic dyes after a year.

I have hit a major, MAJOR length milestone!!!!!!! I can, at last, wear my hair in a coronet braid that doesn't have a very bad taper. That was always my goal ever since I started my long journey of growing out my hair when I was ten years old. Needless to say, I've been wearing it a lot in the past week! I will post pictures soon. I'm still planning on growing to classic! About four more inches to go.

I have several layers and bangs, growing out... but it's not in my nature to do much about it. I call them my future fairy tails. :o

Thank you. :blossom

I am a natural dark auburn, and my highlights/aged hair is naturally red. But that being said, I have been using henna since the spring of this year, and I'm pretty sure it's turning my hair "redder" each time. So the answer is "yes" and "no". :o

I see, my sisters hair lightens the same way at the ends (like a coppery red, though the hair closer to her head is almost black), so I guess that + henna would result in a similar colour. Looks really cool, and my guess is that your terminal is not even close, considering the thickness and how it looks so even through the length.

We'll see... 44" is the longest that it has ever been before I have cut it back again.

Overall, yes: I do have really thick hair, but you wouldn't know it right now! I have deep bangs, plus two different large layers around my face, AND the lower portion of the back of my head is also cut (I had to cut out an incident, and it's now about 6" long). So I have rather a lot of taper, right now!

BoogwoodElf I'm 5'6" so we are pretty similar, guess you're right it makes hair growing much easier than for really high people, actually most of women around here are close to mine height/littler so I don't need to feel like cheating with mine fast growth front of others thanks God :P

butterfly_dream that's hard question I don't eat anything special, some vegetables not really high amount of them but i see difference with one simple thing- sunflower seeds. I can say they work good as when I ate them daily for some time then stopped, mine nails get so much weaker , when came back to eating it all was alright again. Nails stand at dark end of body needs same as hair that's why mentioning it.Still I will say herbal hair tonics and herbal oils do most of work for me, and will do for most of people if they eat normal at least not super healthy. This month I'm going to try triphala as saw mine friends getting good growth from it curious if it will really work on me too :)

I finally got an updated length photo! I just trimmed off about a half inch and it's now about 1/2" past Classic. I know the ends are thin so I plan on trimming regularly as I maintain at about this length or maybe add a bit of length as I trim for some time to thicken up.

Does anyone here have the same problem as me? My butt is really big, so even though I'm at tailbone right now, my guess is that it will take me two years to reach classic... I hate that....and exercising isn't the solution xP. I hate it, and I am pear shaped so even though I wear a small or medium size shirts all my skirts or pants are pretty large, so it isn't just a matter of losing weight -.-

Hahaha well at least yours is round, mine is kinda shapeless and just hangs there, occupying 1/3 of my body length :p. Ok maybe that was an exaggeration but still...
I just measured and my hair is 38 inches (without stretching cause that just doesn't make sense since my hair is always wavy), and I'm at tailbone. Considering the texture and my 'prominent' behind I'll need about 10 inches to get to classic!. This is going to be a long wait :meditate:

StellaKatherine
October 3rd, 2014, 12:52 PM
I have a long torso as well, measured today 40 and a half inches.. and still about 8 + inches to go as brushed and 10+ fo wavy... :D

But I finally stopped stressing about the matter. I wear my hair up anyway and winter is coming, so I won't be able to have a "show off" days anyway. So it grows when it grows :D

Oh my goodness you guys, it's time for me to officially join this thread! My hair grows really slowly so I try not to pay that much attention to length or I'll drive myself crazy... It's been hanging out at 'around tailbone' for so long, but I realized recently that I've most definitively hit tailbone and am heading towards classic. :)

http://i1103.photobucket.com/albums/g469/blackcatpictures1/IMG_2633_zps1d588172.jpg (http://s1103.photobucket.com/user/blackcatpictures1/media/IMG_2633_zps1d588172.jpg.html)

(I realize now I should have worn pants. You'll have to take my word that it's only an inch or two from classic, lol.)

I really need to hang out at classic for a looooong time to thicken up my ends. I can finally do a helix bun, but it looks really wonky and not right because my taper is so extreme. >.<

I'm starting to opt for skirts and dresses because my weight lifting is making it even more difficult to buy pants. The 512 by Levi's still works if I'm not bloated but that is hit or miss because I'm trying to figure out which foods are doing it and shark week is like that constantly.

Got the big butt, long back thing going, too; I'm 5'11". This is actually the first picture I've ever taken from the back, so I only knew how long my hair was by touch... Not as nice as I'd imagined, but then in my mind's eye I'm also more athletic (long line of chubby in my family), have better posture (lazy), movie star glamor (never wear make-up), and look more mature (I'm 34 and people think I'm 20...sounds appealing, but really it's just weird). I just trimmed the ends a little this morning and did some S&D... didn't realize I had so many split ends until I started actively looking for them!

Did the honey and cinnamon lightening thing today; I don't like the way my hair has grown in darker over the last couple of years, making the few white hairs I have really stand out. I rinsed it out, and now I'm sitting with a deep conditioner soaking for 45 minutes, and we'll see how it turns out. I really hope it looks okay (maybe not much a difference?) once it's dry, because it's too late now and I'm not going to chop it. Kind of had to work it in with my hands since my spray bottle clogged half-way through the application. I want to make classic sometime next year, hopefully this won't set me back.

I suppose I belong here! I reached TBL about a month ago - my original plan was to maintain there until I grew out around four inches of layers, but that plan was scrapped when I realized I didn't have hair scissors. So I'm growing past TBL until I'm able to microtrim out those layers.

Thanks all!

Sarahlabyrinth: I'm sort of conflicted on where to go from here. On one hand, I've finally attained the hair length I've wanted since I was ten, so maybe I should just maintain. On the other hand, my hair appears to have the ability to grow past classic, if my thick-ish hemline is an indication...so maybe I ought to keep growing? Considering my history of benign neglect, I'll probably keep growing, but it is just so exciting to actually be at a point in my long hair journey where I might actually stop going for more length!

...oh, who am I kidding, I'm going for knee. :guns:

Well, if you can get there, why not? Why not, I say.....I'm kind of eyeing up knee length myself, in case I make it to Classic :p After all, it wouldn't do to run out of hair goals, I would feel a bit lost :)

Well, I had to announce it somewhere....

I started just letting my hair grow without trims at about the beginning of the year, and right now the very tips are hitting classic when wet. I'm starting to have problems sitting down with my hair loose without guiding it out of the way.

So it'll probably be several more months before the bulk of my hair is visibly past classic (yay fairytale ends and waves!), but I needed to say that I'm getting there! :happydance:

Minor announcement from me. I recently reached classic when stretched, which I've been bragging about in my siggy for the last few days. ;) However, I've been feeling more and more miserable about my hair due to awful, tangly ends and buns that felt too heavy for my scalp. So today I cut back to tailbone. Initially I was aiming for hip+, but I didn't want to cut that much in one chop. I was going to cut layers too, but it turns out that my new hair scissor is cr*p. It felt like I was cutting fabric with paper scissors. *shudders* I'm going to get a new pair of scissors, even up my hemline and get layers, and then slowly grow back to classic with lots of trims.
I feel very happy about my decision. Buns are not heavy anymore, and it turns out that my hair is still long enough to do my favourite bun, the figure 8. I'll get a length picture as soon as I get my hemline fixed :o

Hello everyone! After years and years of reading your posts and waiting to be able to come here officially, here I am! :) I'm at 102 cm (maybe more, I last measured 3 weeks ago) and TBL is 99 cm on me so I am definitely there. Now, it's only 10 cm to classic which is my final goal, but I still have some 20 cm of old ends to trim, so it's not like I will be at classic in 5 months ;)

Weather makes my hair shrink! Rainy and it's curly, I lose 3-6 inches. Dry and it holds a lot of static, fluffing itself up and I lose 1-3 inches. However!.... when I'm washing it and it's wet, it's halfway down my sizable posterior, so there's hope yet!

Hey there, I think I'll be keeping you company here for more than a little while. Getting a lot of breakage at the moment I think in part due to having far too many layers so going to try CO for a bit and see if that helps me get past TBL. I have about 3 hairs that are an inch past this, I hope my champion hairs don't shed soon!

the moment when being tall really sucks.

I hear ya! The only thing that sort of consoles me is the thought that if it feels slow now - pre-classic, then it's only going to get much slower later (mid-thigh, knee...), because us tall people tend to have long legs.
So we need to enjoy the "fast" movement during these milestones... 'cause it won't get any easier, lol

I didn't take my annual picture this November but took one tonight. I think I put too much shea in my hair after washing because there are sections near front that still look wet. Either way the length shot is in my album. I am not sure how to add it to here {nor do I feel it is important that I do so} but I think I am solidly between tail and classic. I put a yardstick under my bum instead of hands at waist like I usually do in pictures. I am concerned that my hemline looks thin compared to previous years. I may need a trim :-(

I had a trim today and was going to cut back to BCL or thereabouts, but then I thought... It'd be fun to be able to say I've grown to classic once even if I don't think it's a length I'd like to maintain at, and I'm so close at the moment - if I'm gonna reach it, may as well be now! And so my (lovely, lovely) hairdresser only took off a quarter of an inch without any prompting from me to just trim as much as needed to be trimmed.

your hair is lovely schweedie... so beautiful

I was spared a chop by doing a clarify shampoo. i definitely had too much product in it and it looked wet and gross...hung flat etc instead of bouncy. I was thinking of cutting it for 'the flip' at shoulder that was how wretched it was. Back on track with growing. I hope to hit classic by this time next year. I calculate I will hit it fairly easily. I am currently at 37" and 40" takes me to classic. I cut off 2" last year for sake of healthy ends and still managed to pick up enough to go from mid hip to tail bone.

My dream hair is to have the end of my braids hit my thigh when sitting or well since I am big I guess mid hip. Anime hair I guess. A friend tells me her braids hit there and her hair is beyond knee. I don't think I can handle that. I personally squick out a bit when showering because my hair is where I am washing back there and blergh. I believe I could grow my hair that long only because there has been no slowing down in rate so far in how much length I gain each year. I would think I would slow to a crawl when getting close to my terminal length but I don't know.

Not meaning to rain on the long hair parade just sharing my own personal squicks.... everybody takes care of their hair different. I wear mine down All The Time or do a side english or a quick cinnamon held with a claw clip. I tend to sleep with it down not deep condition or oil or anything anymore. I just wash it once a week, use a little coconut oil on ends when wet or silicone hair gloss and that is it. I suspect if I go longer than classic I will really have to start babying it also. :-( Of course being on LHC has changed my hair care routine .... I use solid shampoo bars with a ACV rinse OR do CWC. About once a year I guess it does get all gnarly and I do an oil before washing and then today I had to clarify it because it was too heavy from built up stuff. I don't use heat but then I wasn't one for that before hand.... an occasional hot curler which I have given up on

heh when I first joined here I thought waist was my final goal. I think if I cut my hair, despite flip dreams, I would keep it at waist. My husband likes long hair ... more than I do truth be told.... I would be happy with short as in modified flat top short hair but I have grown used to the silk feeling of it all.

I am also at TBL, FINALLY!! I was dreaming of the day I would reach it, seemed like a far away dream, and then....busy life caught hold of me. My dog went into labor and had her litter, which of course always results in a few months of sleepless nights. I stopped checking & posting on LHC and was basically ignoring my hair. I was kicking myself for not doing any oil treatments or maintaining my vitamin regimen, and thought the stress I was going through had surely stunted my growth..

And then, after my shower, I went to remove a "shed hair" that was reaching halfway down my butt cheek to realize, to my surprise, that it was attached! I checked my hair after it dried and realized, I've reached tailbone by accident! So, yay! I get to post here without being a lurker

I will post a picture soon, promise!

And now I really need to do a better job protecting my hair :P
And it's time for a little cutback.
And no more brushing with a bbb

I'm aiming for classic in 2015 with the no-trimming thread, but I've been thinking of going beyond classic lately, and of going for a third year of no-trimming. I'm not sure if I'll make it further than classic length - remains to be seen if it will still be easy enough to handle. So we'll see... Definitely got the taste for longer hair, though. ;)

Here's the most recent pic I had taken of my hair. I am confident on reaching classic by the end of the year despite my large behind :p.

I would also like to eventually get rid of the bleached ends which have been through a lot and definitely are thinner than the rest of my hair, but I'll probably do that after I reach my goal.

cathair Thanks so much :blushing:
I hope I get there. The downside of having fine hair is that it doesn't feel like it's *there* until it is longer than the desired length, because I feel like only a little bit of hair is hanging there by the ends :p

Now that the bulk of my hemline rests on my butt, my hair feels like it's growing really quickly. Before it seemed like it was never growing, now it feels like it's getting significantly longer overnight.
Since I've started sitting on my hair, I'm starting to wonder if fingertip length is too long. I'll probably go ahead and grow it that long, maybe even longer, but I'm already getting tired of sitting on it accidentally.

I sat on my hair for the first time about a month ago. 44 inches. I have a LOOOOOOONG back.

I AM at classic. Well, about 10 hairs are. Some past :) So we continue to grow. I think I will begin to trim (after 2 years of no trimming) in another few months, to thicken up those ends.

DreamSheep you are so close!! I know... those last two inches seem to take forever before achieving a new body marker. Sometimes my hair grows at 1 inch a month! And sometimes, I feel lucky to have gotten 1/2 inch maybe. I am beginning to think that the only thing we really have control over with our hair growing experience is whether or not we choose to pic up those scissors!! GAAAAH! And I am a control freak too, which makes this really a difficult goal! We will get there!

I can't wait to see everyone's pics in a couple of months!!:blossom:

Well, thank you all so much for sharing your growing experience at tbl! I feel a bit like an infiltrator :eye: since I have about 5inches until chairseat, 6 inches until I am sitting on my hair!! -- However I am hoping and praying to be legitimately a part of this thread by December, 2015 or very soon thereafter, pending any trims!! :couch:

This month it seems like my hair is on a little growth spurt, so I may very well reach classic earlier than I had anticipated. For the time being I'll guess that I will reach classic length around August, but if it happens sooner I will take the opportunity to pause at classic for a few months to thicken up my hemline even more. I am one of those people who basically wants as little taper as possible, so I'm willing to take a vacation at classic length for a few months to achieve this.

How cute we all will be with classic length hair. All shorties with our hair covering half our bodies! Actually I saw a lady at Ross, blonde straight hair, classic length-- perfect... mid 50's? shorty 5'2 and she looks so pretty! Her hair is really striking since she is so short. I'm a huge fan of your siggy braided bun, by the way! It's stunning! :applause
As for the trimming... you seem to have practically no taper, so I think trimming should be relatively easy to minimize, if that's what you want. ;) When ends get very knotty, tangly, what seems to work for many people are:

1) clarifying to remove product build-up + deep moisturizing treatment (e.g. SMT);

2) chelating to remove mineral deposits;

3) adding more oils, silicones and other ingredients that provide slip, tweaking routine to add more oils, like adding pre-poo oiling, LOC or oil rinses;

4) for some people, hydrolyzed protein treatments (like gelatin masks, silk protein drops, etc) can actually help the ends a lot (but this one is more of an ad hoc, YMMV kind of thing).

According to the gals in the 'post your hair photos here' thread I can actually claim classic now. What say you? I still feel like I need another couple of centimetres until I'm officially there, but maybe that's just the regular 'my hair feels shorter than it is' thing?

Hmm, maybe there's hope for me yet! I'm 5'4 on a good day when I stand up perfectly straight and try to practice perfect posture. Except, I'd like my legs to get longer, not necessarily my torso. It's annoying when your chair/seat has to be so far forward that it's hard to easily navigate get up/sitting down.
