I'm still waiting too, I haven't measured my hair the last two months and I'm not doing that until June.
And I hope I can keep myself from doing that, so I can be happy with the length I gained the last few month. :)
I have done some much needed S&D on my ends lately, I just looked att them one day and when: Where did all the split ends come from!!!
But now they look fine again. :cheese:
I have been trying some new things lately, my favorite is the new way I use to make my hair full lovely lovely locks!

Rhodugune that looks gorgeous! Is that natural? If not how do you accomplish that?
Ok, I decided to take a new length shot. Please keep in mind that I was lazy last weekend and didn't wash my hair which typically I only wash once a week. So this hasn't been washed since 2 Saturdays ago and has been in all sorts of buns, etc. It's a mess & then ends look scraggly, but it's just so you & I can get an idea of length. Please, I beg you, neglect the look of my hair. I assure you that under normal conditions my scraggly ends aren't that bad and my hair isn't that much of a mess. Thank you. :D
My last length shot is in my sig and it appears that it's grown a bit since then. :cheese: I think I'm between 2.5 - 3" from CL which is my goal (at least for now.)

I'm hoping to be able to put up a new length picture soon, it feels like I've gotten some nice growth over the time I've been away. It's feeling incredibly silky further down now. I'm really happy with my progress :D If only i can have a Spidermom-like super-growth, then I'd definitely be able to graduate.

Hello everyone!
I'm back on LHC after a long disappearance. I now have TB length bottle blond hair. As you can imagine my hair isn't in the best of shape due to all the chemical processing but I've decided to try to make the best of it. The length below waist is see through and it drives me nuts.
I won't cut it but was hoping to get to classic and maintain, now I'm wondering if I should start to maintain at TB? My hair grows about 0.5" per month so if I presume that will all be added length (unlikely) that's about 14 months of maintaining.. in reality can I presume it will be 18months of maintaing at TB?
I so want to get to classic! I can't seem to get past TB without cutting back a few inches because of thin ends!

What if you try cutting 0.25" a month. That way you'll be gaining length while trimming away the damaged ends. It's a win-win. Give it a try either way and see what works. You can always change your mind if you don't like how it's coming out. :)
Welcome back, BTW!

I think I'm there! I think I reached classic length! :D
At least with the tips of my V-hemline (and fairytale ends to boot).
Here are the pics, in different light settings. I'm told my true colour is in between the two - that's after a couple of Colour B4 applications on long-term henna + Elumen dye.

What next, you ask? I've been thinking about cutting back to about hip ever since I reached top of BC. That was the last length I could wear down fairly regularly and comfortably. On the other hand, my current "dream goal" is fingertip. Not sure if it's realistic at all - but there's only one way to find out! ;)

I think several of us seem to have this same issue. I trimmed back to TBL from "just" classic last October and am trying again. Its the old "ends" vs. "length" issue and I think the 1/4" trim is a good compromise only I would trim 1" every 4 months. I am not a fan of trimming monthly.

I am back here again for a short while. I had reached classic in Feb., then went to below that. I was at 41 3/4" up till last night. I could no longer put off trimming the length b/c the right side of my length has increasingly shown itself to be thinning out at the ends (shows in photos as the left side).I have noticed in many people posting on LHC that when they get to about tailbone to classic length the ends suddenly thin out or part of the ends thin out; so I expected it. I must have a lot more different lengths on the right side d/t more layering done when my hair was short, and it is now showing up. Ah well; the ends look better, but I can see that a few more inches off will have to be done. But not now, b/c I promised myself that I would trim to 40" at the most.....

I need to shrink my butt so I have less of it to cover to get to classic. I think if I had a smaller butt I'd be there by now lol.
I've been wearing my hair in a braid for a while, I've noticed in the last week or two that the tail touches TBL, it's such a weird new feeling to have the tail of my braid sweep across the base of my back. I didn't realise that I also has a little bit of a shed about a month ago, I suddenly have tons of small inch-ish long halo hairs coming through. That's cool, at least it's growing back :)

I was just playing with one of my shed hairs, stretching it out to see how far it with stretch before it breaks. Oh my god i can almost get about three inches of stretch before it breaks!
It used to be the small amount of tension and SNAP. Woo progress!

I used to be pretty close to Classic, but recently trimmed off about 4.5/5 inches, so I'm back to about TBL now. I'm hoping it won't take me too long to get to Classic (I haven't been too consistent with keeping track of how fast my hair grows in the past, so I'm not sure how long it might take.)

I'm maintaining at just below TB, waiting for my shed to end :/
I feel like I need to cut off more than usual because I'm losing twice as much hair as usual and don't want my hemline to get any thinner. It's kind of annoying since I had *just* gotten to a point where I liked my hair, it was getting thicker at the ends and growing. I really hope this is an autumn shed that will stop soon... how long does a seasonal shed usually go for?

I've alo been an active measurer, but I'm trying not to for a while, hopping to gain some surprise length!

I haven't been paying much attention to my length the last few months, just automatically washing, braiding, detangling...
I reached back in the shower last night just out of curiosity, and I think I've hit classic when wet! I didn't take a picture because by the time it was dry it was late and I was tired, but I think I'm almost to actual classic. Maybe another month! I think I might finally be actually excited about my hair again!

I'm at 38" right now, which seems to be just barely beyond tailbone for me. Though, being a non-trimmer, I could be measuring wrong. It's hard to account for those fairytale ends. Especially when I'm using a wooden yard stick to measure it.

I can't believe how much the texture of my hair has changed. It's much straighter now, which is a bit of a bummer... but I think it's due to a combination of length and less damage.

I can't find my measuring tape... a casualty of cleaning up the living room last week. It'll resurface soon I'm sure. I haven't measured my ponytail in a long time, but I think I was right in the middle of the ii range when I did a few years ago. it's pretty thin/fine regardless. I've had a lot of people say that I could never grow long hair because of how fine it is. Maybe I just have a stubborn streak. ;)

Also, on long hair danger.... Yesterday I brushed my hair and let it loose while I was doing a quick 5 minute walk to the corner store. Somehow when I was leaving I managed to get my hair stuck in the locked door. I got a few feet away before I was yanked back lol.

Since I have been stuck at or slightly past tailbone for almost a year, this looks like the thread for me! I keep trimming in hopes of getting rid of split/velcro ends... seem to be a lot more of them at this length. So with more protective updos, better detangling (thanks to mineral oil, that is my new favorite thing), and a shiny new pair of S&D shears, I am going to attempt not to trim at all until the goal is reached.
Tailbone: 39 inches
Current: 40.5 inches
Classic: 44 inches
3.5 inches to go at a maximum rate of 0.75 inches of growth per month... classic by 2013? We'll see. :hmm:

Thank you MrsGuther. :D Khepera & AdaClare good luck to both of you. I'm still sticking around here because I'm not quite sure if I'm really at classic yet. I don't think so. Plus I'm in need of a trim and want to even out my hemline a bit. I'm thinking I'll be here for quite awhile. :)

@ Lostsoule77, I am not in this thread yet and I want to say your hair is looking beautiful. I also want to ask you because I stress over this too much. :o Your hairs that are reaching classic do they grow from the top crown/canopy of your head, the under layers or a combination? I layer up from the bottom and really hope my crown / canopy hairs make it to at least Classic. I am waiting for them to get to TBL before I leave the waist to tbl thread. My lower nape is past TBL. Just wondering and again your are one of my curly hair inspirations. :)

So I asked in the CL by Christmas thread & it kinda got lost in the shuffle. Do you guys think I'm at "can I call this classic length?" I know I have a huge U shape that'll have to catch up, but I'm meaning my few longest hairs. Also I'm keeping track on my unstretched hair and just pulled it down to double check.
Your hair is just too pretty, Lostsoule77.

I wasn't sure so I pulled on my hair to check. My longest hairs are all from the back of my head. From the back of the crown down to the nape. I part my hair in the middle when I cut so the canopy hair is to the side and I have a U hemline. This means that my canopy hair is the shortest. It doesn't mean that you can't get your canopy hair to CL. There are beautiful heads of hair on this site with a bluntish hairline that long. So stop stressing! It's bad for hair growth. ;)
Also thank you and wow! :D I'm not even a curly. I wish though.

I'm sorry, but are you kidding me? Your hair is so gorgeous! I know that doesn't mean mine can't be pretty, but getting a compliment from you is just such a compliment in itself! Lostsoule77, I just stumbled across this thread and may I say that your hair pic is the nicest possible first thing to see in any thread on this board!
I don't quite belong here yet, as I have about two inches to go until tailbone. But I hope to be joining you by the end of the year! (And I think I'll pre-emptively subscribe and lurk quietly until I get there.)

I keep trying to get my hopes up for Classic by the end of this year... But I realistically don't see it happening. I'd need a good 6 inches more, and there are only five months left to grow that in!
Ah well. Maybe by this time next year, I'll be there. If I'm lucky.

Funny, but I hadn't thought of them as fairy tale ends. Too me FTE usually look sparsish (yeah I know it's not a word). I did think it was odd that almost 2 years without a cut wouldn't give them to me. Guess I'm just not used to seeing them on wavy/curly hair? I don't know. I do like how it looks in these pics though. :)
Let me just tell you though that with a compliment from you and Spidermom in one day I am in my glory! I think I look to you two the most for inspiration. Not that my hair is like either of yours. Thank you! :) I don't think I'm quite there yet. I think I'm gonna grow until the end of this year and then maintain for awhile. I'm hoping more of my hair will be classicish by then and I can just trim my growth to even it up more. My shortest bits are only hip - bcl. I figure if I maintain for a year they can be at least TBL and then I can continue to grow (if my hair will & I can deal with actual classic length hair.);):D

At 39", I can finally join this thread! :disco:
At 38", my hair barely reached my tailbone, so I wanted to be sure before officially joining. ;)
Anyway, my hair has been growing kinda slowly for the past few months, and then BAM! I gained an inch. :D
So, I'll be hanging around here for awhile, since I doubt I'll be reaching classic length by the end of the year (fingers crossed, but probably not).
I will post a recent picture as soon as I can, but in the meantime, this is my hair at 38" (last month, hands at classic on second pic):
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8012/7523355986_959cb8cdfa_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/75680122@N08/7523355986/)http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8431/7523377504_45eac93eeb_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/75680122@N08/7523377504/)
Unfortunately, there is a weird shadow on top of my head, so you can't see that I have been growing out my natural colour... The length was accidentally died with henna shortly after I joined, because I gave my hair a premixed cassia treatment and didn't know how to read labels back then... Oh well, it is not that noticeable IRL. :)
I have been NW/SO since early March, and it seems I am getting back some of my childhood wurls (I had ringlets at the tips back then). I also get a lot of ringlets around my face and nape (especially in humid weather)...

Yeah, so true! After I posted here last night I went and checked my length again and it really IS TBL at 32 inches, just with everyone else's measurements I was finding it hard to believe ... glad I'm not the only one! :)

Yup. I have legs the same length as my 5'9" friend. I'm 5'3". :) I'm going terminal, assuming my hair a) has a reasonable terminal, and b) looks decent, but my short-term goal is classic, because really, what's the point of a goal if you don't even know what it is? I would really love to hit knee, though.

It's interesting to see how much this can vary. I'm about 5'8", with a long torso and short arms, so fingertip length on me is just barely beyond classic. There's really not enough difference for me to consider it a marker after classic; mid-thigh will work better.
My stats:
Tailbone: 40"
Classic: 46"
Fingertip: 48"
Anyway, my hair stalled a bit over the summer, so I'm just now getting close to 41", even though I hit 40" in June. Just over five inches to go...

Well, I promised myself I wouldn't trim my hair until I was at fingertip length at least... and the very tips of my hair had finally reached classic. But while looking at my hair, I realized I was sacrificing a lot of quality for quantity. My ends were getting extremely scraggly, split, and thin. So I bit my lip and trimmed off about 5 inches. I'm now back at tailbone length... so it looks like I'll be in this thread for a little longer.
But, on the plus side... my hair looks SO much better. I'll try to get pictures later.

Well done for being so brave! The longer my hair gets, the more unwilling I am to trim huge amounts (yes, 5" is a lot to me!)... Having said that, if I was unhappy about my ends, I'd probably bite the bullet and trim too...

I measure stretched because if I don't then I am a different length every day! So my apparent length is somewhere around waist. Maybe that's cheating, but it works for me!

Hah well I had not thought of that...
I guess it's just a matter of actually feeling like TB...I don't mind if it's an inch more or less as long as it always looks long enough to reach my TB.
My goal is that at it's curliest (after washing and air drying) it reaches TB, so I'd need to grow until 42'' stretched or something around that

I'm getting there!
My hair is now 31", and classic is about 36", so I'm about 10-12 months away. Right now it's just getting love and patience.

From what I can see, I don't think I would have trimmed as much, but you must have had your reasons. Then again, I don't feel like my hair grows incredibly fast so I try to be cautious...
Having said that, your hair looks nice and full so you must be pleased with the result. :)
Thank you! The reason I ended up taking that much off is because that's where my hair started to tapper dramatically. That last little bit of my braid was teeny-tiny, and was only that way because of damage and breakage. Now my braid has very little taper and I don't think I'll be needing another trim for a very long time! :happydance:

All worth it then. :)
I have some damage myself, but I try to stick to S&D for now. I would really like to gain proper length before my next trim...
I guess if/when it really bothers me, I'll bite the bullet.

Past Classic when wet!
I realized in the shower last night when doing SMT. I even tucked my chin to my chest and it was still below the mark!
My hair is a tangled, matted mess this morning.
...And now a wavy oily...something.

It's time for me to graduate, I've finally made it to classic length at a bit over 42". I'm so happy to have made it to this milestone. My next length goal will be fingertip length where I plan to maintain for a little while to chop off the old dye I've got hanging around.
Woo classic!

Hello, ladies! I'm starting to move my stuff over to the Classic to knee thread now - as you can see from my picture, I've finally reached that goal!
I'll probably pop in from time to time, as I'll mostly maintain until I'm happier with my ends. :)

I'm here at 39 inches and a bit of a stall. I did go on vacation and ended up washing my hair a lot more than usual. Really my entire routine was off, so that may have something to do with it.
I think classic is going to be another 5 or 6 inches (curly hair).

Hello everyone, I have been a long time member, except I have had a lot of problems posting, for some reason it often will not let me. And I have never been able to add photos before, so fingers crossed!
My goal is Classic, and I hope that finally I can consider this TBL so that I can join this thread (do you think i can?). I have a very long back so growing my hair takes a while!

I think you are solidly classic! At least it certainly looks that way from the back. Maybe from the side it would appear shorter but if I were you I would go ahead and claim classic. Yay! Does this mean you're graduating to the Classic to Knee thread or are you planning to maintain for a while?

Classic was my original goal, but somehow it's just not long enough. I think I'm going to try for fingertip length. I am going to maintain for a bit though. My hemline has been filling in nicely. Didn't even realize until I posted that picture and compared it to my sig pic. I haven't had a trim or cut since my join date, 1/01/11, so I'm due.

I'm at tail bone length currently when it's naturally wavy.
Going for classic length, I might take a short trim off sometime soon but after that I'll do my best to not trim until it gets to classic.
I'm maybe 6-7 inches off from my natural wavy state. so not too much longer!

Hi ladies,
I officially called TBL and have moved over here. I have layers but they are mostly in the upper to lower Tailbone range. My front is just past hip.
My original goal was to stay at the TBL thread til curly. Well my texture is dictating that I have to be knee length for that. My longest layer is 1/2 inch from Classic but still only hangs to just below BCL even after being wet and after an over night braid. My next layer is 1/2 inch from lower TBL and my center rear canopy is about 1 inch below BCL. My front sides are just at hip. After alot of years, and many set backs I am officially calling TAILBONE Length. YEAH!!! This thread is perfect for me now TBL to CLassic. I will remain on this thread to reach full TBL curly and or at least most of the layers at Classic. I do hope it is in my genes to go on to knee length.
This photo show the longest layer from a braid loosed.

http://i1221.photobucket.com/albums/dd465/vintagecoilylocks/latesummerandFall2012A006.jpg
FTP Length is about 2 inches above knee on me and may be a good place to maintain for a spell for the other layers to catch up. that or do micro trimms. I haven't trimmed in years. That will be strange cutting my hair other than S&D. So I will see if I have the nerve at that time.
For now on to Full TBL curly and Classic.

While taking my monthly progress pics yesterday, I noticed something. I decided to hold my hands straight down like Calaelen did in her "I past FTL without realizing it!! (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=109260)" thread, only to discover my fingertip length is basically the same as my classic length.
http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz235/CeruleanSiren/LHC/CLvsFTL_zpsdc510d54.png
Furthermore, I've been assuming classic was 46" on me. That's what I always seem to get when measuring. My hair is currently at 42" (barely), but that picture doesn't make it look like I have another 4" to go. So I may be hitting classic (and fingertip) a lot earlier than I expected.

For myself you are right. I had to completely rethink my method of care. No more getting it to look like someone elses. That meant no more straigthening. Love it the way it is and I gave up brushes, combs, and shampoo's. So finger detangling takes time but it has paid off. Sort of a pre medevil hair care routine. Now to just let it grow for once. I am enjoying this time in my life.

I'm officially joining this quest after maintaining at tailbone for a year. I switched from box dye to hennindigo and I'm trying to break the conventional products habit. I use a blowdryer on my bangs only but I try to do as little as possible. I estimate that I'm about 8 inches away from classic, so if I trim, that's probably a year and a half if I'm lucky. Less than a month ago I flirted with chopping my hair above my shoulders, and now I've swung 180 degrees and want to grow even longer. Thank goodness for the 2 week wait, and thank goodness for LHC!!

I cannot believe I am seeing that that I could just cry. Reading your hair description we have nearly the same hair type--even the locations of different types on the head!! You are an example of my goal!! I have made up my mind that I will have CL or even FTL hair curly, but of course still question how I to do it and have prayed for answers. Of course it all begins with hair care. I, too, am done with the heat styling and brushes, etc and have EMBRACED my lovely curls. Right now I am at APL curly and nearly BSL pulled. Would you share your blessing of how you accomplished this length and the hair care needed for our hair type?
Hope 2012 has been a blessed year for you!

I'm probably less than an inch from Classic at the moment, and trying to decide whether I should trim back to Tailbone like I planned or decide to maintain at Classic once I get there, since this is the longest my hair has ever been and I'm happy I'm able to reach Classic.
I know if I let it go until the end of January, I won't trim back to Tailbone, so time is kind of of the essence... Oh, decisions, decisions!!

How are your ends? If they need to be trimmed then go ahed and cut back to TB. It'll grow back and healthier. If your ends are still nice then there is no harm in heading to classic. You'll see if you like it or not and can always trim back if you don't. ;)

My journey has been long and filled with ups and downs. Had to learn as I went. The biggest step was to go simple. Then find the products that work. I CO about every 3-5 days depending on the weather. I currently wash in braids or twists to reduce tangles. I then apply a leave in then an emoilient to seal. The day after or two I detangle with my hands. Not really finger comb but carefully separating and removing loose hair. I dislike working with my soaking wet hair and it detangles better dry. I rebraid or twist then rebun the twists or braids. I went through a long heavy shedding and I now understand that my layers were probably created due to the delicate nature of my canopy and after each wash there was so much shed hair the tangles were massive and I sustained breakage in addition to the shedding through out my head. I have learned that I will have to wait out a few recycling of old hair and regrowth to really see if my hair will grow more evenly. Mean while I keep it protected. I do however enjoy the length I have now with braids and buns. For myself just knowing it is the longest its ever been is so satisfying. I will never be able to wear my hair out and expect it to survive it is much to delicate and when it coils up it will tangle. But, thats OK. Just having it is cool enough. Wearing the occasional single braid is cool too.
I am hoping my terminal is close to calf now. I may do a maintaining or microtimming if and only if my longest under layer reaches FTP to let the other layers catch up. But I will not feel the need if it reaches terminal before that.
2012 gave me hope for I did see real improvement on thickness and length. If I acheive the goals I have set for 2013 I will be very greatful.

Ah, yes, my two weeks passed ages ago LOL! I've been thinking about what I would do at this point since July, when I trimmed it, and still haven't come to a conclusion XD
My ends are stringy, but nowhere as bad as they've been. I should cut it, I just have to psych myself up for it haha!

Well I just trimmed 3 inches off mine (it had been over a year since it had been trimmed and was looking bad).. so I'm back to 38" now around tailbone. I'd really LOOOOVE classic length hair.
It is funny how length is really relative. Every time I see a girl with hair down to her butt I say "ooh! she has such long pretty hair! I want my hair that long!" to which my entourage usually tells me mine IS that long... I still don't feel like it is long despite how often I close it in the car door -_- When my hair is straightened (which takes forever, so I do it rarely) I usually feel better about my hair, I guess that has something to do with it too.

I still don't feel like it is long despite how often I close it in the car door -_- When my hair is straightened (which takes forever, so I do it rarely) I usually feel better about my hair, I guess that has something to do with it too.

I had my stylist cut my length back about 6 inches because of thousands of splits and barely qualify for this thread anymore (see sig pic, palms resting on hips). I could lose another 6 inches (still with hundreds of splits) so plan to have a 1-inch trim every 8-10 weeks this year. No classic length for me this year - alas!

Well I just trimmed 3 inches off mine (it had been over a year since it had been trimmed and was looking bad).. so I'm back to 38" now around tailbone. I'd really LOOOOVE classic length hair.

To be honest, I think it is better to get rid of the split ends. Before I cut mine too it was so scraggly.. I had longer hair, but it just isn't as nice as long healthy hair. People say, "oh she has long hair, but it is easy when it is a mess like that". I feel so much better about the state of my hair now even if I miss the little bit of length I cut off. At least now it gets a chance to grow nicer ^^ Besides, Hips are pretty close to tail bone!

I was going to just let my layers grow out as they were but it is becoming awkward to handle. I have created a trim plan for the first three months of the year. Happy to say it is not because of splits. Rarely find them these days but my layers make it awkward now that my hair is getting longer. The curls of one layer wrap around the length of the other. So I will trim the shorter layer as micro as possible then more on the next layer but not much then on the longer layer I will trim all growth from now in three trims between Jan , Feb, and March. That will keep the longer layer at grazing Classic. If this helps I will repeat this either in the last three months of the year or the beginning of next year. These are my growth months so i am hoping to see a closing of the gap in layers.

Sorry for the delayed response Vintagecoilylocks!! I can see how your methods would help in minimal breakage. I too have very delicate areas, mine are at my hairline around my face and the very center back of my head...this is where I get the most shrinkage and it also seems to be very fine hairs wih not a lot of tinsel strength--although this could be from years of styling damage. I remember my hair being a lot thicker when I was younger. I deal with some shed, too, but not much which I think is post baby shed.
I also used to think that I could never wear my hair out until I came across a YouTuber who focuses on what she calls hair saturation with conditioner, elongating curls (not stretching) and hair organization of tangle-free clumps of curls throughout. I didn't believe it until I started following her methods. I used to pull clumps of hair out now I can count the number of strands I lose while detangling. *Big Smiles* I'm not sure if she is a part of this community but you can find her channel on YouTube 1ballerina. She classifies her hair type as 4a and her lenght is Tailbone at her last check in Aug 2012. I have watched every single video and this is the method I have been following and I have gained 2 inches since September 2012. Maybe I can start to grow thickness again--who knows. :)
I really like your idea of washing with braids, I will definitely be trying this! Can wait to see your results in the coming months. Let me know if you try anything from the YouTube channel.

Noticed in the shower today that I'm well past TBL now ... it always sneaks up on you. Not that I'm visibly there, with the curls -- I'm still hanging out around the waistband of my (admittedly low-slung) jeans when it's not stretched out.
My biggest struggle with this length is that I've lost a lot of curl with the weight. My ends spiral but BSL and up is pretty fuzzy. It removes the temptation to wear it down, but curl has been my identity for a long time, and I'm used to measuring healthiness by how smoothly it spirals.
Well. By this time next year I should be past classic stretched straight, if my 9"/year continues. I'm holding that thought ... :)

Yes I have scene her youtube video's. Her hair is similar to my daughters. I was already using a similar method with my daughter when I found her youtubes. She has lovely hair. We were following Terry Laflesh, Tightly curly method. She also has below TBL very curly hair. I use that method on my daughter and myself. It keeps her hair very separated and detangled. Difference in routine is we do not use combs or denman brushes. Only fingers. Also Terry was using inexpensive minimal products and 1ballerina at the time was using more expensive mutiple products. I have two full heads of hair to care for. I had already created a home made butter recipe and leave in. As for wearing hair out my life with sheep, horses, knitting and yes spinning wheels just would destroy my hair. My hair hangs below my waist curly and I would not even go into the kitchen like that. Why this summer I was detangling my hair and one section was out and it was pulled into the fan. OUCH!. I also wear the Christian covering and it just does not fit the life style. NO for myself it is just the love of having the longest healthiest hair I was ment to have and I love buns and braids.
There is another youtuber with below TBL natural 3b/4a hair called interplanetrabbit, she has a Very simple routine. Washes daily and wears her hair loose. No braiding or twisting. Uses inexpensive minimal products. When my layers even out I may try her routine for the summer months. Then braid/bun up when dry. I want to eventually get away from multiple braids. Trying to reduce time spent on hair. The longer it gets the longer it takes to braid.
congrats on your growth progress. That's what I like to hear.

My hair is newly wash and airdried but not brushed in this pic.
When I took the pics earlier today all the pics with my hair brushed came out blurry... and with less waves and behaving ends my hair is well past classic, I promise. :p
I measured it before a little trim a few months ago, 44.1 and I think it's still around 44inches.

It's a magical feeling passing all the back milestones, now for the butt! Haha! I've just reached tailbone!! Tailbone is 38 inches on me. Classic is about 43 inches, which means I've got about 10 months give or take to reach it! I plan on bleaching and dying the tips purple when I've past classic because I can't resist a bit of color. Plus you only live once and hair grows so it's no biggie!
Here is my most recent pic, at tailbone.

Hypersensitive, what a lovely photo! It looks like you're closer to Classic than Tailbone to be honest.
I got very excited at the end of of last year when my hair hit 110 cm (classic on me). However, I just had a 2 cm + trim last week, so I'm not certain that I'm still at classic. I can't find my tape measure right now as my room is a disaster zone but as soon as I find it I will re-measure. Either way it won't be long now before I graduate to the Classic to Knee thread!

About 3 and 1/2 inches til Classic. I'm going nuts! In July 2010 I got my hair chopped to APL with a blunt hemline, so it's come a lonnnnnnng way in 2 and a half years. But still! I'm joining this thread :D. My fairytale ends are reaching my butt crack, so now I am at that fateful point when I usually cut back to around hip. Usually, for the past 2 years around this time, I do it out of frustration with my ends, because they fairytale at this length. But this year it's different. I have found a happy updo routine that works for me and looks attractive, at least IMHO, frontally as well as from the back of the head, which is perfect for protecting the hair while I'm at work. So, YEAH! Let's DO IT! Let's grow ALL OF THE HAIR!!!!

I joined this thread awhile ago, and haven't posted since. My hair still felt so short, and I felt like an imposter claiming tailbone when it was still CLEARLY TOO SHORT. I still feel weird about it even though I'm actually solid tailbone now, not even just the ends brushing like when I joined. What a strange feeling...

Well, after being very quiet around here (even for me!), I think I'm re-motivated to focus on my hair. I had reached my goal (classic) and was unsure if I wanted to keep going longer or not. I lost any kind of goal, so I kept going a bit farther to see what I thought of thigh-length. I was a few inches past classic and just a few inches away from fingertip length when I got too discouraged with my thin ends (from about waist down I see a very big difference in thickness) and cut back to about hip length last year.
After pretty much benign neglect and no trims (after a couple of years of monthly microtrims), I am now about halfway between TB and classic again. I'm not sure I'm seeing the thickness travel down any, so I've got to decide if I push forward regardless, maybe change my hemline to better suit the thinner, more fairytale length, and how I feel about having "unusually long" hair. It's a whole mental thing I'm not sure I was ready for. I've been more comfortable in the TB length range since it isn't so unusual to most people. I think right now I'm ready to push back into the longer lengths and see how it goes. So, here goes! Going to try clarifying, CO/WO washing again for a while, and go check out some new hairtoys!

Welcome back, you were definately one of my hair inspirations when you hit classic before. I think more time may be needed on the thickness moving down. Given all our hair does not hav eht e same growth speed we can get impatient. Give it more time this time around.

I have had some progress. My fringe has gained a good 3 inches since SEpt. Thats good for me. This is the longest my fringe has been so I am into unknwn zone on all layers now. My longest layer has continued in its lopsided growth. Right side longer just a bit past Classic. The left and center side is an inch from Classic. My second longest layer has made it to lower TBL. My rear crown has pushed past BCL except for a inch square right in the center top that has yet to clear waist.:taz: This has been my most delicate and shortest area. Hopefully my new routine and products will see it get beyond this point. ( just does not look long unless that crown is long) My very thin front sides, as well as the rest of my head, have a distinct increase in bulk at about eight inches long. That 's the new growth since the shedding stopped:D This area is also a slow growing just barely touching hip. So my goal this year is to keep the improvemments consistent and surpass these lengths. I place myself on a no measure til May 21st challenge. MY goal is to reach knee someday but right now I am taking it one inch per area at a time.

Aww, thank you, Vintagecoilylocks! I think you're right, and I'm trying to just be more patient. I think part of it is losing any verbal kudos from folks irl...all I get is "wow, your hair is long!" which I take more negative than as a compliment. I'm still in the long expanse of butt. I know it's gotten longer, because when I get in the shower it's inches past BCL when 6 months ago the longest hairs were just brushing it, and because I can do buns I couldn't only a few weeks ago. But. But. It's hard not to be discouraged by hair that isn't quite "really long," but is too long for my curls to spiral as they once did. Well. I shall persevere. :)

I am in the exact same position as you! It's a bit sad when your curls stop spiraling... unfortunately I also seem to have to choose between length and curls. I'm also pushing on to classic, I would love to see what it's like :) I've always wanted classic length hair. I am currently a quarter of the way between TB and CL.
Here's my progress update.. 2nd day hair without curls. I'm currently at 95cm / 37.4" see the differencebetween wavy and stretched!

In March I reported a lopsided approach to Classic. I am happy to report my Pices month gave me some growth. My bottom layer is Classic all across. The canopy has almost caugth the middle layer and they are in the 1-2 inches from full TBL range. My front side finally moved closer to hip. Yeah. I just might get Classic in the rear this year.

Well I guess this is me. I am about 2" from classic at this point. I had my ends dusted yesterday so maybe 2.2" or some such thing haha. Anyway I am hanging out here and hoping for classic by fall.

Ironically, of course, is that sulfates (drying) are needed to clarify. I did this last week and my hair is super soft and shiny and slick right now so I know it was not so much damage as build up.
Not necessarily. I use a chelating shampoo by L'anza that is great for clarifying. It doesn't have sulfates and works great. You should try it!

Malibu undo goo comes highly rec'd as a sulphate free clarifying shampoo, though I've never tried it since it's not sold here. Also seconding the l'anza one.

I'm sooo close to being at classic (within just a couple of inches!), but I'm wrestling with whether or not to do a trim since my ends are starting to get that gross, rough feeling.

I think you're a bit longer than I am, but I haven't made much effort to stretch it for photographing purposes. Sig pic is current length and curl without anything in whatsoever (i.e. slightly less curly than on an average day) ... but still no longer the 3a/b I used to be. :(

Well I think I can finally graduate to this thread. I have just made it barely past tailbone (I'm at 39") . Classic is between 42"-43" on me...Hope my hair doesn't stall...lol

I suppose I should officially graduate myself from this thread and move on to Classic to Knee. I joined the thread at a little past tailbone at 38" on 7 May 2012, so it's been almost a year. I'm just about 44" now. The lace on this skirt ends right at classic:

Another two inches (ish) and I'll be at fingertip. ^_^

Thanks! It's been a consistent 6 inches per year since high school at least. I used to get 12" cut off every two years like clockwork, and I always stayed in the same range.

Thanks Vintagecoilylocks...Now if I can just figure out how everyone gets their hair to lay so straight and uniform. Mine is kinda poufy...lol I trimmed mine about 1/2" today to get a more blunt hemline...now to figure out the smoothing part...

It's about time I joined this thread. I just spent two months overseas and got back three days ago. I finally took a proper look at my length and realised its grown from just tailbone to half way down my bum. :) YAY
That being said, the ends are thinning out and I still have a couple of my old layers. I want to maintain my current length for a little while and cut the old ends off. The only problem is I'm afraid of hairdresses. I know it is irrational but I don't like other people cutting my hair. I've been trimming it myself for the last few years but its beginning to get uneven. How do you guys deal with your ends? Do you self trim? Let it go? Or do you have a trusted hairdresser?
Thanks

I trim myself, from time to time ask mom or DH. I trimmed often between 19 and 30 inches because of damaged dry endings. Now as I reached 37 inches I trim rarely. I was quite unable to perfect the self trim method, so the best results are when my family help me :)
Ps. Congrats on your "half bum length" reaching :D

I self trim, using the pony tail method. My hair is almost 42 inches, and i have a blunt hairline.

It looks like I am ahead of schedule! I might make it to classic before the end of this year!
I measured and I'm at 39 inches! For me classic is 42-ish inches. I can almost almost sit on my hair if it is down. Looks like lots of updos are on the horizon since the heat is starting to kick in. I'm hoping for lots of summer growth! Best wishes to everyone too!

:thud: Wow - your hair is simply stunning! I was just lurking here for growing inspiration (I'm barely hip) but I had to come out of the woodwork to comment on your gorgeous curl and colour!

Thanks! The color is henna. Love henna.
It only curls when it feels like it. Mostly it frizzes or just looks odd.

New thread for me to join! I just reached TBL last month. Classic is my next big milestone, and should bring me back to my short-term hair goal of getting back the length that I had in 2004 (the left picture on my sig).
Once there I'm planning on either maintaining for a while or just chopping my taper off completely for a thick hemline (knowing me I'll go for the maintaining option as I really doubt I'll want to lose that much length). I haven't had a trim for over 2 and a half years and although my ends are pretty healthy they are rather uneven!
