Ok, first, skip what the change in lighting did to the color of my hair! LOL
The pic on the left is my hair today. The pic on the right is my hair 6 months ago. I had a 1" trim in there right after the older pic was taken. Besides the fact I have gained 10 lbs since then my hair actually looked longer 6 months ago!
Now, I measure and I know I have gained about 4" since then. So...what the heck?
At any rate, I appear at almost classic in both pics. I SWEAR I was barely TBL 6 months ago.
THIS is why I measure. If I did not measure, I would be despondant thinking I have had no growth since April.
Perhaps I should take a pic in the same pants/shirt I was wearing then. Ah well. Getting pics onto LHC is very time consuming because I have to upload them from a host website and resize and blah blah and nevermidn getting them from my camera to my PC or how many failed pics I take to get one good one. I don't really feel like starting over.

Yay, my longest strands are at classic. Classic is 41" inches on. When it gets to 42" a more definite classic I'll start maintaining.

First thing that pops in my eye is you lean back in the older pic. Maybe you shoul a more lean back one for yourself. Just the position you got in the old pic. I t might well be it looks longer than classic then, but that is just from perspective.

Your hemline is less thick in the newer one, which is what can be expected, but I think it look sworse than in RL, because of the weird lighting.

Apart from that I see beautiful gorgeous hair. :D

You're right, it did look longer 6 months ago. The hem looked fuller, too. Hmmmmmm; I wonder if you're getting some breakage. A cut-back might not be a bad idea.

I thought I was over extra-long hair when I got it cut back 7 inches in March, but I discovered that I really did miss the length. It's stupid, I know, but somehow I felt more "special" with below-butt length hair.

The hem was definitely fuller. I took a good look today and I think I need about 4-6" off. I am not sure I can handle a whole year's growth down the drain. It definitely measures longer, though, part of it must be the way I am standing or holding my head. I am sure I cannot do it exactly the same 6 months later.

LOL Spidey, that is exactly what I did last night. I haven't uploaded the pics yet but it does look a lot better tit for tat.

I wish I could be over it. Usually I just need a few days. I was telling DH about it yesterday (in case I need to warm him up for a haircut) and he, of course, doesn't notice anything as little as splits or lack of growth but he pointed out several things that would cause end-damage and said I may not be able to grow past butt length (and have decent ends). So I know he is OK if I trim.

I wore my hair down yesterday after these pics were taken and got several compliments. I re-looked at my pics today and decided I am being too criitcal and microspective. I am more worried about the thinning ends than the lack of growth. I do believe, however, some of my hairs may have reached terminal length on the sides. I can look back at many older pics and the hair there is always the same length. My roots range anywhere from 4-6", which I think is quite a range (I last sun-inned in October last year). I know I am healthy and eat well, etc. so it is what it is.

All in all, it has been fun to grow my hair to new lengths but I think I the whole long hair thing now has a lackluster and instead of admiring thigh and knee length, I now view it as TOO long (for me). Hmm. Actually, my personal opinion of the most visually appealing length is just above hip.

At any rate, my stubborn brain won't let me regress and methinks my ends may have to be quite ruined before I will justify a cut (though if I did not employ the 2 week rule I would have grabbed scissors yesterday). My ends really are not that bad! There are very few splits, but the ends are jagged from breakage and S&D's I guess. I will try to get the pics on here in a bit, I want to change my avatar, too (yes, I am one to change for the sake of change, you should see me rearrange my furniture every 6 months or so). I look quite Classic in the new ones. Stupid flat rear makes that hallmark a bit tricky.

ETA: Strangely I think I look better from behind with the extra 10 lbs! LOL

I took the liberty to resize the photos and combine them to get a better comparison. I used the cameras as scale until they were both 18px wide, and then did my best to line up your head/shoulders/hips etc so they were lined up. I then put in faint marker lines to show the difference in hair length.

It's not perfect, you can tell from the door angles and such that they were not taken at exactly the same height/distance, and you had vastly different clothes on. How you hold your head and how puffy your clothes are make a difference in how long your hair appears in a photo, but I hope it helps to highlight that you indeed have had growth. :flower:

That was nice of you! I kept resizing them for the same reason and when I would upload it would upload the original no matter what I did. It is the WEIRDEST thing. I tried so many times I almost got my gun and blew a hole in the PC. lol. I also tried resizing on photobucket with the same results??? I had the pics exactly the same but they would never load that way. I am not sure how to combine pictures so I still had them separate. Anyway, I was standing a bit closer to the mirror in the recent picture.

I cannot even load anything into my albums now, either. I have no clue what happened. I tried starting over, rebooting PC, deleting and reacreating...something is up with my PC! I know we need a new one but we can't afford it! I just tried again and I get the same error, that the path name is invalid. It is the same way I always loaded my photos and photobucket takes them but LHC won't. SIGH.

Sorry to get OT there. At any rate, I have no plans (as of now LOL) to cut my hair until April. It has behaved quite nicely the last couple days and I finally rounded out an even 41" (104cm). I think it looks good even with the ends uneven and thinning so if I am happy, who cares? right? lol Of course that (happiness) is subject to change. SIGH.

Spidermom, I just want to let you know that you make me feel better about my hair. I read all of these people who post things about how they "never have to S&D anymore!" or how they can never find any splits now that they've just stopped straightening it every day! or things of the like and it makes me feel like my hair is a stupid reject or something. I have never heat-styled or dyed and my only "sin" pre-LHC was rough handling. And I get splits like no other. I completely empathize with the idea that by the time you've finished trimming all of the splits, more will have appeared. I'm trying to teach myself to just not care about them anymore, to varying degrees of success...

Rivanariko, I'm so glad you said that because I also get down seeing other people say how they never get splits anymore, even people who bleach. I've decided to do regular very small self-trims about every month or two until my ends stop acting like Velcro and between times pretend that I don't get split ends. haha I tucked my scissors away so that they are very inconvenient to retrieve.

I'm still maintaining at about TB. It's rather nice to hear that I'm not the only one to get splits, broken hairs and such. I get all that, although not as badly as I used to, and my ends are thin. I've been doing S&D whenever I feel like it and micro trimming every few weeks. For most of the last year I was trimming about every 1.5 to 2 weeks, but sometimes as long as 4 weeks between. It is definitely helping, although slowly. I know part of the thin ends is due to the S&D, but I'd rather have the damage cut off than let it cause more trouble. I think that the oiling, routine changes and wearing buns instead of braids, with the ties at the ends, has helped a lot.

I only dyed my hair for 3.5 years, stopping a few months after I joined LHC. I stopped following a reaction to the dye. I was just as happy to stop, since I'd had my fun with the change and realized that my original very dark color just wasn't as good with my older skin as my silvers. The dye line gives me a very clear indicator showing what hair is virgin, and knowing that a couple inches before that was LHC techniques is good, too.

I estimate it will be another 2.5 or 3 years before all the pre-LCH hair is trimmed off. That's fine, this is the longest it's ever been and since my ends are thickening up slowly but surely I'm getting happier and happier with it. I always used to chop back to about waist whenever it got to BCL due to thin ends.

If I decide that I don't like it this length I'll cut back. On the other hand, if it thickens up and continues to look OK I may even go longer. I never expected to be able to have it this long, so I'm just taking it a day at a time!

I'm right there with you on the splits...I could S&D every day and never stop finding them. I ignore them for the most part now. Once I get to classic I'll starting maintaining to thicken up my hemline, but until then I'm pretending splits don't exist :p

Opinions please:
I am leaning more and more towards a 4-6" trim (would take me back to about hip). Do you all think it will change the manageability of my hair a lot? I cannot remember ever having 6" off at one time before. I have considered doing about 1-2" at a time.

I would actually like MORE manageability, at this point, my hair is a pain. BUT I know that I have trouble getting my hair to stay in buns after a cut because the ends are all...not velcroe. Opinions?

I should say just cut off 1-2 inch and see what you think of that (for a couple of weeks) you can always cut off more if you want too but you cannot get 2inch back in such a short period of time.

All I can figure is that I must have had (and maybe still do) a powerful buildup from conditioner. I usually go through gallons of the stuff. I've been a CWCer with diluted shampoo, with occasional clarifying washes, for about 5 years. P.S: I'm not oiling either.

It sounds very much like a build up. Maybe you need to clarify more often.

I think trimming is a maintenance thing. To keep the benefit, you have to keep up with the trims. The frequency, of course, will vary; I'm not trying say you should trim again. Only you can decide that.

Well I did a clarifying wash only (no conditioner) today and let it air dry before detangling. I have to say, the assessment remains the same. I have 4-6" that needs to be cut. My hair dried super fast (hmm) and seems thicker (volume). It defintiely lost its sleekness/silkiness but consequently stays in a bun better. I am already starting to visualize myself with hip length hair again. Maybe I will do it, 2" at a time. I shall invoke the 2 week rule.

All in all, it is not splits but unevenness and thinness at the ends that is beckoning me to trim. I don't think anyone IRL would even notice. Once hair is so long, it is just "long" and no one really pays attention to exactly how long. It WOULD be nice not to sit on it anymore. At any rate, I have given this almost too much time, thought, and attention and will try to forget about it for a couple weeks. I apologize for all the wishy-washy, back-and-forthedness I have imparted on you all! Don't worry, DH has been getting it, too.

Ok, I don't think I quite made the 2 weeks worth waiting but I finally trimmed my hair today! About 3.25", so I am back where I started the year, a solid 38" and just barely TBL.

I managed to get all the damaged ends off! YAY! I am happy! I don't even miss the length yet (ok, it has only been a couple hours LOL) and I was ready to take off more so I am pleased.

I DID take pictures but don't have the cord to get them onto my computer at the moment.

I still cannot believe how much better the ends look. SO worth it and I am still able to stay in this thread! Seriously, I was prepared to cut back to hip if necessary. DH said he did not think it looks like I cut a whole 3".

Well I still have my goal as knee but I have decided not to get in a hurry about getting there. I had Classic as a goal for 2011 and I was pretty much there before I trimmed. Perhaps I will be at Classic but the end of 2012.

Today I cut a few inches off mine. It seems like I've been at the same place for a very long time and I'm noticing more damage in the last 4 inches or so and it was kind of thin. It looks and feels so much better so maybe now I can make another push to Classic and actually get there!

Someone asked me how the ends were since the trim. Well, they seem to be in shock at the moment. I have not washed my hair since the trim and they feel a bit odd. They do slip out of buns but not really anymore than they did before. I guess I have had FTE's of sort for awhile because the blunt cut looks very choppy to me. I will get used to it. I disliked the split ends, however I am thinking the FTE's weren't so bad afterall. 4" to get back to Classic. No rush. I am sort of over the long hair thing and I really don't feel like I lost any length. I am more annoyed with my sun-in demarcation line than the length or ends.

I wore it down today. I don't know why but my hair seems much thicker and I swear I cannot tell it is shorter really. It had a lovely texture today, must be the avacado oil? I dunno! It was some odd combo of oil and washing or something that will probably never happen again. It was heavier, stick straight but not oily.

At any rate, I am still happy with the trim!

Still on the voyage to classic which has been my goal for about 9 years now; there have been many, many trims and micro trims because of the effort to get a good hemline and starting with 2" hair on the top and about 1/2" on the sides and lower back. I am now firmly at 40" with a straight hem line that is relatively consistent in thickness with the rest of my head (mind you I said, relatively.. still some work to do there.). I need to be at about 43" for classic, so with that said - I need 'patience'. :(

It's really funny, the longer my hair gets, the shorter it seems - I guess it's because I WANT it REALLY LONG!! :D

Idun, I find any sort of vertical use of a fork or stick to cause pain pulling. Instead I try to insert them either horizontally or at an angle so that the weight is spread out over a larger amount of the scalp hair. Horizontal is best, but I do get bored with the same way all the time. If you think of the bun as a clock face, with 12 o'clock being towards the top of your head and 6 o'clock being towards your nape, try updo's inserting the stick/fork starting at about the 10- or 11-o'clock or 1- or 2-o'clock positions, going under the center of the bun and out the opposite side, so 6 'hours' later. So if you put it into the bun at the 1 o'clock position the end would come out about the 7 o'clock position, or even the 8 o'clock position, more horizontal.

The wider the bun the less any one area can pull. Always using the same location to place your updo can be hard on the same hairs every day, so move it around some. Doesn't seem to need to be very much, just a little bit each time you redo it.

Thank you very much for your suggestions SpinDance! I try to place the bun in a different spot every day and to vary the placement of sticks, forks and pins aswell. Still, some of the problem is my slippery hair, so for example a high bun will almost always start travelling bakcwards at some point and cause discomfort. Now my hair is heavier it is getting worse. I also have to make rather tight buns or they disintegrate. Which buns do you prefer to do "wide buns"?

Madora, I think you are right. Learning to better section the hair is key to more comfort. I have often visited your album and I am amazed with what you create. My braiding skills is nowhere near your level though. And I often loose my patience with intricate updos because they are so time consuming. Guess I will have to try harder! :)

I generally can't get away with just one stick anymore.
I've started using forks (great for distributing the weight), two sticks, 2-3 u-shaped knitting needles, or any combo of spin pins and amish pins.

Lately, to my surprise, I really like doing toy-free styles. I finally learned how get a nautilus bun to stay put without sticks or forks, and it's been my go-to style for about a week. It stays put and if I do it right I don't have any pressure points or pulled hair so it's amazingly comfortable. I do, though, tend to have to redo it several times a day.

Re: buns
I find I am doing more and more buns that use spin pins for the same reason. My stick buns just don't stay put anymore. I can no longer do a lazy wrap bun, nor a nautilus that stays, plus they stick out too far. Those were my two go-to buns! I am now doing an infinity bun as my go-to but it takes several tries to get it just right so it will stay. I wore one all day yesterday. A lady at my Bible study asked me to take my hair down so she could see my trim and I told her no! lol. I did not want to have to redo the bun. I will make a mental note to wear my hair down next week but it was very rainy and cold and windy yesterday, not a loose hair day at all.

The best tip I can suggest is to section your hair when you do braids or buns. Sectioning distributes the weight of the hair more comfortably. Also, the placement of the style on your head has a lot to do with the comfort factor too.

Thank you, Madora! :) No, I had never seen this particular crown braid...it seems to be easier than the dutch lace braid technique, but I do not have a lot of practice in braiding my hair...I will ask my sister to do it on my hair. Thank you again!

You're welcome, longhairedlady! Yes, I've slept in this style several times and it is very comfortable. What I love about it (at least for sleep purposes) is that you don't have to be all fired perfect about sectioning the strands. In fact, I usually take more strands to add in each section so the styling goes pretty rapidly. It's messy..but I'm not concerned with appearance at night! Happy styling!

Also, I reached tailbone recently, so I thought I'd check in with you all. My goal was tailbone by mid-January, which would be one year since my last trim, but I've got another 6-8 weeks to go. So I plan to see where I get by then and decide at that point if I want to trim, maintain, or just keep growing. I've always thought classic was the longest I would ever possibly want to go, because my hair is curly and with shrinkage it will seem much shorter and won't actually be in danger of being sat on. But this is LHC we're talking about, so who knows? In addition to taking into account shrinkage, I also really want a hip length braid. Not the very end of the braid grazing hip, but the braided part solidly reaching hip, with the tassel starting there.

I'm somewhere between tailbone and classic. I haven't really noticed much of a difference since waist length since I keep it up usually. I do know that it's annoying to keep it down (if I'm on a lazy day at home) because it's so hot, gets tangled easily and I keep sitting on the ends if I'm not careful.

Hi! I've been at TB (wet) for a bit now, but with wurls it shrinks. I think I am solidly there now though when dry + even with wurl shrinkage. The color in the photo is a wee bright (not accurate), but I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to shoot another for a bit so here it is today:

Lol, I guess that was my original goal (totally forgot)! :D I don't think I'll maintain here though because I'm not happy with this length for my hair at all. It may actually be too long but I am currently assuming it is a case of it not being long enough. Plus look at my despicable hemline. I definitely want to grow out a better hemline. I'm not sure if my goal is classic now or just plain old terminal. I must say I am very curious about my terminal length and I'm not getting any younger (I'm almost 40)...so who knows. :p

I, too, dislike TBL, but I also dislike classic (manageability, not looks), which I just barely reached before trimming, so I moved my goal to knee. I did not like the fact I could sit on it. However, anything above TBL feels short to me, so I have no clue what I will end up with but it will not be terminal because I have to have a straight (slight U) hemline. I just cannot do FTE's.

I really enjoyed my hair about waist length but it is like now that I have gone past that I cannot go back. It just seems so short to me now. I am torn between how it looks and manageability.

I suspect I may trim back to waist in a couple years when my virgin hair reaches that length and begin my journey to knee over. But who knows. I am forever changing my mind. I have a feeling, though, that once I reach a new longest-ever-length, I cannot go back to anything shorter. As of now my plan is to grow a bit past classic before doing another trim and assess how my ends are faring by then. I know I have some terminal length hairs on the sides already, I may not be able to grow to knee without FTE's.

Yeah, I feel the exact same way about it. I really like my hair at waist too, but now I can't imagine going back there (even at TB updos are still limited because my hair is on the thicker side). If I had your hair I would likely grow as long as possible. My hair is just so unruly. It gets better with length (helps weigh it down), but even now at TB it has an "extroverted wild side". I seriously long for your type of hair, I know the grass is always greener but the antics of wurlies take some serious patience. Your hair seems so refined, healthy, and well kept. But I guess we are both in that zone of unsatisfied hair length so it just goes to show. :)

Well, i haven't posted here in quite a while. I was at tailbone for so long. I reached (or noticed I had reached) classic in September if I recall, and had my spouse trim it right before Hallowe'en. According to my spouse I was still at classic when he trimmed it, but when i take my braid down, it seems to be somewhere between TB and Classic, closer to classic than TB, I'll admit. Right now the goal is healthy hair, I'll probably hover between TB and Classic until I am content, the grow again.

Yeah, when you reach these lengths mechanical damage really starts being an issue, and at least for me it gets harder to tell if it's a legit stall at the roots or if hair is breaking off at the ends.

At 4'11" my TBL is 33" don't quite know what Classic is I'll have to measure when I get home. I do know that it's longer than my hand span to the next level.

THIS. I am so fed up with my hair right now and winter is hard because of all the extra clothing and ZIPPERS. I hate zippers. I tried to find a button coat I like but no luck.

I cannot keep my hair in sticks at all anymore. I just don't understand. I am forever redoing it and they don't look right when I do finally get them to hold (usually crooked). Braids end up in a halo after half an hour and are very dangerous around zippers. SO I try my spin pins and NOW, all of the sudden, I cannot seem to wear them without causing a headache. Up until now they were my saving grace.

The halo issue is definitely humidity related, our house is too large to humidify tho I may try to find something for my bedroom. My hair is just not happy and my hemline is straight thanks to my recent trim but there seems to be so much mechanical or something damage through the whole length. THAT and all my newer hair, the newest 6" or so, is growing out wavy??? so I get this huge volume poof at my nape that cannot be tamed.

I am just over it and really considering giving up the long hair goal and going back to waist and maintaining there forever.

I spent an hour trying to get my hair into a presentable updo today (we went out) and ended up with double braids after failing every other bun I tried, which I took down half way through the day because of halo and snag issues. I actually prefer it down of all ways right now but the frizz...oh the frizz...and plus it tangles like mad.

OK, rant over. I am just...I thought it was just a few bad hair days but we are going on a month now.

Have you tried forks -- preferably ones with about four prongs? (Apologies if you have and I missed the relevant posting.) I've found multi-prong forks the easiest toys to use at all lengths, even and especially when sticks didn't work for me. Perhaps they'd get you through this current problem stage as well?

After almost 8" of trims this year, the longest strands of my hair, when pulled straight, are at BCL/TBL (35"). "True" TBL is a little less than 37.5" on me.
Classic is about 41.5".

I've decided it's close enough to me. I was at this same length this time last year, if not an inch or two longer. I need to join this thread for motivation.

I'm hoping for the rest of my hairs to get to BCL by Christmas this year, and hopefully CL by next Christmas.


If only my ends would thicken up. :(

I have youtubed and have many styles I do, I have a list of them I keep where I do my hair. My hairsticks are wood. The metal ones won't hold my hair at all.

I find that my buns hold better if I don't comb my hair out first. It's just too smooth and slippery when it's all combed out.

Many people object to "the halo" look. Perhaps I'm not clear on what it *is*, as my hair doesn't seem to do what-I-think-this-is unless it's high summer and I've been working in my garden. ;)

Whenever I get this fluff of fuzzy hair all over my head, I smile, because it adds softness where none usually is. With stick straight hair pulled back into a bun, we're talking *severe*, and the halo reminds me of my cat's fur in the sunlight.

Remember that the smooth slick straightened look is only a recent trend and fashion, not "the last word". :)

This seems very weird to me. I haven't used conditioner the last 3 times I have washed my hair, and suddenly my ends are behaving and my hair is less tangly than it was before. All I can figure is that I must have had (and maybe still do) a powerful buildup from conditioner. I usually go through gallons of the stuff. I've been a CWCer with diluted shampoo, with occasional clarifying washes, for about 5 years. P.S: I'm not oiling either.

You know, I've been having a problem with my ends having a gunky buildup and when I took a break from conditioner, my hair behaved as well. It didn't even tangle very much. I 've been cutting back on the amount I use and my hair seems to have benefited greatly. Strange.

Oh, so I found a way to keep my hair up all day finally. I do a cinnabun with my spin pins and then secure the whole thing with one of these (http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/445503348/bead_hair_ornament.html).

I am not sure what they are called but I have NEVER been able to get one of those to work in my hair until now. They just slide right out no matter what I do. But securing a bun that is already secured seems to work and it looks really nice, too. AND it was comfortable so long as I placed the spin pins strategically for comfort.

I only straighten my hair for VERY special occasions (like, once a year); so I took a length photo at the salon. Turns out I'm just a teeeeny bit past true tailbone and I can finally trim a bit ;D

The constant checking will drive you batty, so it's best to just put it up and forget about it. You can check once a week..but it really takes several months to see actual growth (at least for me).

Well, I need some encouragement. I will be hitting solid classic by the end of the year. I have been trimming 1/4 inch monthly for nearly 2 years now, and I had made alot of progress in gaining thickness in my length, but now as I edge closer to classic AND after experimenting with WO for nearly 5 months, I have experienced terrible split ends and have lost alot of thickness in my bottom 6 inches. This is the old, damaged length I've been steadily trimming off, so I knew it wasn't going to last forever, but I'm really disappointed to look at reaching classic in such bad shape.

I've moved in! My hair had plateaued for years at just above hip level. Recently, it zoomed a bit. It's cool... but I'm finding it gets into awkward places I didn't expect. Like rolling up into the top AND bottom of the car's seat belt. :doh: It is officially now the longest I've ever had it.

Since joining LHC, I have trimmed 4 inches of my hair, but each fall I loose much thickness and the nice hemline I had disappears :( ! My hair isn't looking very beautiful lately as well, since I have been using up my old sls shampoos, I don't have money to buy other products right now...

On a good side I haven't had any split ends since last spring, and I haven't been using conditioner even! :D I think that washing my lengths once a week as contributed a lot to this.

Since joining LHC, I have trimmed 4 inches of my hair, but each fall I loose much thickness and the nice hemline I had disappears :( ! My hair isn't looking very beautiful lately as well, since I have been using up my old sls shampoos, I don't have money to buy other products right now...

On a good side I haven't had any split ends since last spring, and I haven't been using conditioner even! :D I think that washing my lengths once a week as contributed a lot to this.

My ends are healthy now and I am growing back towards Classic. I have knee as my goal but Classic was really bothering me a bit and I am not sure I could stand my hair that long. Sometimes I still considering actually going shorter, like somewhere between waist and hip. Then sometimes I think I would really like to be knee so I can wrap my hair twice around my neck and still tuck the end in my shirt (I know that sounds stupid, but that is how I keep it out of my way when I wear it loose).

Actually, (thinking out loud here), if I went shorter, it would have to be short enough I would not need to braid it at night, which is about waist length on me. But I can't stand to think of my hair that short again, and my motto is "when in doubt, don't". So I just keep growing.

It used to take me about a half hour to finger-comb through my hair when I did it every night, and that was keeping it up or braided all of the time. Not sure how it gets tangled when it's up, but it's talented...

I gave in a few months ago and started brushing again though. I'm still much more careful than I used to be, but I was miserable with my hair and starting to resent how much work I had to put into getting it to look nice. I'm getting more breakage than I was when I was carefully untying each tangle, but I'm overall happier. Yes, I gave a Tangle Teezer to my sister in her birthday and I got a chance to try it, it felt that it was breaking my hairs but it seemed not to break, it's weird...

I do think that using conditioner, detangling in the shower and brush it wet keeps it tangle free. I do nothing of those things, I do not even use conditioner, but that's the routine that works with my hair, the only downside is really the combing time, but I'm used to that...

Just touching BCL/TBone :D I was 37.5" wet, stretched straight [not pulling hard..], measured like 2 weeks ago.. I also haven't noticed much difference in routines or maintenance.. although I'm a lot more aware of when I need to put it up now than I was say a year ago at around waist. I still hate to put it up, but like if it's windy, REALLY cold [especially if it's wet or I'm wearing my heavy jacket, as it creates a lot of static], getting in and out of the car a lot, working and bending a lot where it falls into everything, etc then I have to put it up.. otherwise, I like to enjoy it down a bit during the day. I will have a current, clear length picture up hopefully soon. :P

It's been a while since I've checked in. I'm still just past tbl, I've been maintaining this length for a while to 1. Grow out my old dye and 2. Grow out my bangs.
I can officially say I have no bangs anymore! I'm really happy that they're finally gone! In 2008 I started out with them at eyebrow length.

As for my first goal, my canopy has grown enough that the regrowth now reaches apl. I have enough virgin hair for a dye free average length cut (but I'm not gonna cut :P ).
Yaaaay! Milestones are fun to accomplish.

Big congrats!!!! That is a big milestone to reach at the length you have. I started growing my bangs from eyebrow in Oct 2009, and they are getting there, but still a ways to go. I'm at 44 inches total length, and the old bangs are over halfway there now....I'll make it someday!

Good luck on your other goal. You know it will get there eventually, and I'm with you on not cutting!

After reading so many horror stories around here about hairdressers chopping off alot more than told I'm always pleasantly surprised at the hairdressers around here. She made sure several times that she could cut as much as she did (which wasn't much at all), even when I said she could just cut off all she though needed cut off to get a good hemline.

Less than 1 inch till classic. :) But half of my hair is light brown and the other half almost black, it will take years to grow back my natural color. I also want to thicken my ends, so I decided to grow a little longer than classic and then make a 2 inch cut, perhaps... Don't know if I'll grow till knee, I'll see... classic I like the most. :) Have to say that before I saw the pics here, never thought about growing more than waist. It's great what I found here! :)

My latest progress pic. I have cut about an inch since my last progress pic to give me more of a blunt hemline instead of the slight U I had. I ended up with the slight U after I did not do the self trimming ponytail method correctly. I also have being doing alot more EVOO treatments on my hair to help with how dry my hair has been this winter. My last progress pic was dry and frizzy! My hair is much happier now. :D How is everyone?

I am about half way between TBL and Classic and once again having trouble with buns. There seem to be very few buns that will look right AND hold all day. Holding without having to re-do is very important to me. I use a Ficcare, sticks, and spin pins, depending on the bun. I decided to rate my buns with 5 stars being the best, 1 star being the worst.

Right now the equilibrium bun holds the best, bar none, however I don't find it aesthetically pleasing for my taste. I will wear it around the house but not out. It is comfortable and rock solid. 5 stars for hold, 2 stars for looks.

The hypno-bun is my compromise between looks and hold, however, it always takes me several attempts to get it to look just right. 4 stars for hold, 5 stars for looks.

The Gibralter does well, being my third choice for hold. It also looks good in a stick or ficcare. 3 stars for hold, 4 stars for looks.

Cinnabuns and braided buns held with spin pins are OK, they do tend to loosen and look like crap after a few hours. Plus I dislike how long it takes me to put them up. 3 stars for hold, 4 stars for looks.

I can no longer sport a lazy wrap. My hair just seems to be too long for that bun. It used to be my favorite as far as looks and hold goes. Not only does it look ridiculous now but it will not hold more than an hour. Not sure why? 1 star each!

Same with infinity bun...it looks great but no longer holds with Ficcare nor sticks. 2 stars for hold, 5 stars for looks.

So what are your problem buns and your go-to buns for this length? How do you rate the different buns?

I know part of my problem is the sleekness of my hair and the day of or after a wash is the worst, it is so slick it will just slip out of any style. I LIKE the sleekness, but it can be tricky. My ends almost always slip out and I sport a rooster tail! lol.

I've been supplementing my sticks or fork with a few long bobby pins (also known as roller pins). I need the extra support for the bun to stay comfortable.

My everyday-bun is a centerheld braided bun with a size M Ficcare. If nothing works, this bun will. Hold the whole day, looks neat und pretty.
Hypno-bun with a two-prong-fork is also quite secure and I like the look, because it is one of the bigger buns.
LWB with ficcare works well for me, but not with a stick.
French pinless is large und very secure.

I always have difficulties with a normal cinnamon bun. And some others, but I do not know the englisch names of them... Celtish bun? Is that correct?
No chance for me, too much length left, looks bad, undone within a few minutes.

The ellingbun is pretty and secure, but it needs a bit time, to make it.

I pretty much live in a lazy wrap bun held with a 3-prong fork. It's a five on all counts--quick and easy to do, looks very elegant, and holds extremely well. I discovered that a LWB with a fork will hold up to the most vigorous of martial arts and fitness training sessions for me, which I am thrilled about. I also like that the look can vary depending on how loose or tight I make it and how high or low I place it on my head. I would really recommend that anyone who usually does a LWB with sticks or a Ficcare try it with a sturdy 3 or 4 prong fork. It makes all the difference for me.

I live in a braid, but if I want my hair up I usually go for a figure 8 bun. At the moment though I'm in an in-between length where it isn't quite long enough to fit properly in my bun and sticks out a bit. Arrrgh! Just a few more inches and I'll be neat again.

It's funny how you have to evolve in hairstyles at certain lengths. Sometimes with my Chinese buns I don't need pins to hold my ends in place and a few inches later I've got to keep repinning them throughout the day.

I love that now that my fringe is the same length as my hem, I don't have bits poking out of my braid anymore. I have a nice smooth braid all day. Yaaay!

While washing my hair earlier this week I thought I felt the tiniest tickle at the top of my thighs... With the inexact measuring of trying to feel where the ends are in the shower, I think my longest tips are just starting to brush classic while wet! Hopefully by this summer I'll be solid classic!! I feel like I've been waiting forever for this.

I'm still at the same length as last year, but I have a much thicker hem, no see through ends. So it's looking good for classic 2012! Woo! From the pictures I took today, it looks as though I may need 4 inches to get there. Here's hoping!

I grew my hair pretty much straight from a pixie to TB with occasional trims, so my hair tapers a lot. My plan is to maintain it at TB unti the thickness moves down the length a ways. It's slow, of course, but I do feel like progress is taking place, and that my hair is thicker further down than before. Next, classic, and then, ???

Of course I plopped my hair the other day and it curled all the way up to TB. Anyway, if I don't count when it is wet or pulled straight, I am still somewhere in between TB and Classic. How is everyone else doing?

I have been benignly neglecting and have not done a length check in a while, being thoroughly occupied with other things. I think this is a good thing! I figure the next time I do a length check I will be pleasantly surprised.

Well, I have no pic, but I think I can fairly claim classic at 44 inches. However, now is the dilemma of what to do next! Classic was my first-level goal and after that I was never sure if I would want to keep going longer or stay here to thicken and improve quality.

So...thinking about how much of my length is still "pre-LHC" with heat and semi-perm dye damage, I think I'm going to maintain here. I was gaining a solid 3/4 inch a month growth for 2 years of monthly trimming, so that means I grow 9 inches a year. It has been about 3 years since I started treating my hair better, so that means only about 27 inches of my length is "virgin"...so that means another 1-1/2 to 2 years of maintaining to really be rid of the damage.

I'll reserve the right to change at anytime, but for now maintaining it is! I'll get a pic up as soon as I can.

My hair has switched over to turbo-grow for spring, summer, and early fall.
The ends look to be about 1.5-2 inches above classic length (but that's estimated).

My hair has done this growth spurt thing after a trim before. Between March 31 and April 1, I cut off 2 inches, and with that along with the arrival of spring - my hair just took off. I'm still amazed.

WaitingSoLong: Can you tell me what exactly your ponytailcircumference is? Your hair looks so pretts and is SO long and I am always on the lookout for rather thinner ponytails, with a lot of length for inspiration. I guess about 7cm? 3" or a bit under?
If your hair is thicker, I do not want to be mistaken, I do not want to say, your hair looks thin, no. I mean, it looks perfectly nice and even. Even though it is not in the iii-Range, you know?

Gosh, I never write it down. I re-measured after my new growth made it to my ponytail and I think it is 2.75". I have a real hard time measuring it, but that was up from like 2.25" before all the new growth I got after I stopped using the sun-in in October 2010. It tapers significantly after waist length where I have a lot of terminal length hairs from the side of my head. My terminal taper appears to be a V but I have never reached term yet to be sure.

Thanks :) and I have 2" to go, at most. Some of the length is sucked up in the ponytail. If you look at my sig, which was taken last October, I have gained about 2.5" since then. From the back I look almost Classic, or even Classic if I just tilt my head a bit but not from the side. It helps I have a small rear LOL.

I have marks on my wall. I measured out my height (64.25") one day and wanted to know where half my body height (in hair) would fall on my body. Turns out to be right at the top of TBL. I marked that, and then while I was at it, I marked all the goal increments on the wall where they would be on me. So all I have to do is back up to the wall without shoes/socks and reach down and find where my hair ends, put my finger on the wall and walk away and look...yup...2" to Classic. I really don't like measuring tapes which is why I stopped measuring my hair in inches and started using goal increments instead. I did the "retire your ruler for 90 days challenge" only I went more like 5 months. I just measured again april 1st (that was my goal date and also my TLHC anniversary) and I have planned to not measure again until October (with a tape).

Still waiting..... New measure at 39 1/2. Was doing micro trims every 3-4 months, haven't trimmed since December...... Going to try not to trim. I still have a good 4" to go to get to classic! :(
