Mine's a few good inches below tailbone but not quite classic yet. I can sit on the very ends when it's wet but not dry, it's naturally braidwavey (I got my great grandmother's hair, apparently, although hers was red and mine is very firmly brown) but it's cut with a dip in the middle and I'm trying to decide whether to grow it out blunt along the bottom or not. I've been getting the v cut shallower each cut (yes, cut, not trim - my ends get a bit horrific but my hair grows really fast so I don't mind) but I'm not sure if it would look that great blunt to be honest...hmmm.
This is my hair in June to give you an idea of my hair at least, I need a new photo since my hair is quite a lot longer (as you'd imagine) now:

I think I'm going to increase my goal length. Classic is less than two inches away, but I'm finding it really hard to do cinnabuns right now (at least with a Ficcare). Just the length of it is putting the ends on the opposite side to where I insert the Ficcare, and its not working for me at all. I've tried changing the way I twist it, and the side I insert the Ficcare from, and it makes it really uncomfortable (and not very stable, which is important for me).
Like I really needed an excuse to grow past classic :p I think I'll need to grow at least another four inches past classic to get the ends back in the right area. Might as well shoot for fingertip, which I think is about 50''.

That's the magic of long hair :eyebrows:
Eventually you will find your ends at ankle length one day, I bet:D ("Oh, already? Ankle? Let's grow 2 inches more;)" )

Hope you guys don't mind my stalking this thread. Since I am at hip, it will not be too much longer before I can join the fun here!
My hair is TB when wet, but I would rather wait and make sure it is a little past when dry and I am happy with the quality of my hemline.
Yayyyy, it is coming!!!

My hair is finally starting to feel long. It's just about mid butt length now so I can just about sit on the longest strands and if I so wished I could stick it in my bum crack
When I sit down my ends are very much curled up on my thighs which is nice. Plus everyone is commenting on how long it is when I wear it down.
I can't wait to get to classic. Another 4 inches or so. Hopefully this time next year I'll have reached it give or take a trim or two. Then after that I think I may shoot for fingertip depending on how I feel.

Welcome podo! :)
I'm soo close to classic. About half an inch, benefit of being short waisted!
I am thinking fingertip too (48 inches on me) for a future goal after thickening my hemline a little once I hit classic.

I am also very close to tailbone (when my hair is down and combed (so without braid and or bun curls) I am about 1.5 to 2 inch from classic but unfortunately it is all very thin and fairytaled (thickest part is between waist and hip). I will grow to classic and then trim trim trim until the thin ends will slowly go away :) so I guess I will be here for quite some time ;)

It's not often that i visit this thread... classic can't come soon enough. I'm desperating :silly: well not that much... I've grown kinda used to waiting and growing out. I guess I will have to adjust to "i've reached goal and now trim" mode :p I can't wait for it though.
I'm about 4 inches away, I'm also at mid butt lenght :)
New thing is, I think I will try not to worry about my hemline untill I get there anymore. I will never get there if I keep wanting it straight and blunt. I don't mind sporting faerytale ends again for a while in order to get there I think. My ends are kinda blunt now so I kinda know they are possible for me, even though they will always be thin compared to my roots. STILL! Classic must be the focus now... I've been lurking around tailbone for too long now :p
Hopefully this time next year I'll be classic full force ... HOPEFULLY :D:cheese:

When I first joined this thread I was at 'can I call this tailbone? please?' I'm now solidly mid-butt. :-)
My taper is getting pretty severe though. When I comb it out I still have a blunt hemline. I'm not sure how that's possible, but I confirm it daily in the mirror...

Hooray, this is my thread! I had to check the lengths descriptions versus my most recent length picture (http://www.flickr.com/photos/isbmlamloi/4233456486/), which is still almost a year old. I've trimmed a lot since then, too, because that picture is from before I joined LHC and learned about S&D - and I still think I need a full-on even-it-out trim. I have a wonderful stylist who I see every year or so who understands how much I love my hair long. I think this time I go see her, I'll be able to say, "trim it to tailbone!"

I put my most recent length picture in my "growing concern" album. Jojo tells me I am one fly fart away from classic length, haha. When water is streaming through my hair in the shower, I'm already at classic length.
I always seem to get a surprising growth spurt in October, and that's what happened this year. It seemed like my hair got longer overnight and surprised me.

I measured tooday - 100 cm! YAY!!! :cheese: :cheese: :cheese: Next mini-goal - 40'' :D
To celebrate the occasion, I came up with a trimming plan (as I have quite some taper, my braid is so thin twards the end it's rediculus :() : a 1-2cm trim at the end of December or begining of January to even out the ends alittle, then no trims till Classic (according to my calculations, including the trim, I should reach classic in May 2011 ), and after that more regular trims of 1cm every 2-3 months... Now if I can stick to the plan and bare loosing a month's growth to regular trims is remained to be seen :p
Hopefully it will help reduce the taper and thicken up the ends...

I think I get to join this thread now! The definition of "tailbone" is a slightly fuzzy one, but as of tonight I'm at 38", which is somewhat longer than BCL and a bit short of the end of my actual tailbone. :cheese: Yaaay! By my exceedingly accurate measurements, I should hit classic at 43.5". I can do 5.5", right? My taper isn't even too bad yet. C'mon, hair, grow faster!

Well, as a shorty, I can assure you that I'm always super envious of you taller gals.
I generally find that 100cm on a tall person is more impressive than 100cm on a shorter person.
But then maybe I'm just height envious. :o

Oh, being tall isn't the only time you take forever to grow. I'm only 5'4", and I'm all torso. My legs are short, so when I'm sitting, I'm as tall as my 6' husband. Then we stand, and I'm up to his mid chest area. So... classic on me is 44 inches, and I think I'm finally there! I just looked in the mirror the other day, and it sure looks like the ends are where they should be. :)

I've drawn up a trim schedule because I really want to thicken my ends back up from the layering I have. I planned it to the end of my 1000 Days blog, spacing them so I should reach fingertip by the time my blog finishes and I graduate from uni. It's great to have that plan there.
According to my scedule, I should hit classic in April. 2012.

The same thing happened to me. Just keep growing. More length will rebalance everything. In the mean time you might want to try starting it at a different point. Maybe a little higher or lower.
You probably will want to try some new styles as well and maybe even styles that didn't work before. They might work fabulous now! :)

I'm not at classic yet, but I can sit on my hair! I'm a little embarassed about how happy I am - it's just hair, after all. I lost a lot of hair to chemo, and it stopped growing, and the conditions here are really hard on my hair, so I'm just so happy that it started growing again, since I joined LHC. I didn't really think that it ever would.
I can't tell anyone around me that I can now sit on my hair without sounding like a crazy person, but it's nice to be able to tell everyone on LHC. :D

Florida Mom a good tip I heard is when you start laying down the coils for the cinnabun, put them around your finger. So your finger is in the middle of all the coils. It always makes mine really stable.

Hello! I am new, just graduated from the waist to TBL thread. I finally feel like I can relax and let the length grow to whatever because TBL was my primary goal. Now I am just letting it go, working on my routine to perfect it and my hair quality and not necessarily quantity. I will trim as needed but I did a microtrim back in August and do not need one anytime soon. I would liek to be TBL braided, which is probably at or below classic but I am in no hurry.
I have found that, since hip length, I cannot do certain buns or I have that tail that sticks out no matter what, not enough to wrap that one more time i need. I would love recommendations for updo's for this length.
And as an intro here, I have been at LHC for a year and 8 months. Sorry my avatar is not updated to my current length. I am from Indiana, USA and I will be 35 tomorrow! I have 3 kidlets and my dd (12) is trying to grow her hair now. It is currently just at waist or so. She looks like a mini-me! I get to practice buns and styles on her when she is indulgent. She is starting to get sick of the length tho! However I think she wants her hair to look like mine. It is long enough now she sleeps with it braided and not loose.
Happy Growing!

Well I'm definitely in this boat. I was tailbone at 39" and classic will be at a whopping 48 inches (my bum is, let's say, expansive). It seems like I have had very little growth these last 6 months, but I have also been under a torrent of stress and am now experiencing a high rate of shedding that I hope will taper back down soon.
Gabriel
December 7th, 2010, 11:46 AM
I'd recommend nautilus (spelling?) and lazy wrap buns. I don't think I could get either of them to work until I hit tail bone length. Rose buns are a good option too.
PrincessBob I hope things get sorted for you soon and your shedding tapers off. :blossom:

WaitingSoLong welcome to the thread, I love your colour!
I get that part that sticks out too - I take one extra long bobbypin, grab some hair from the coil over the ends and move it so it faces back into the bun, capturing the ends in the bun. It kinda catches them in and makes sure they dont come out, without having to actually put the bobby pin in the ends. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it really works for me!

Hi! :flowers:
I think it's finally time for me to join this thread! I'm at 37'', which is a bit past tailbone when wet/stretched, and anywhere between hip and BCL when dry/curly (depending on bunwaves/braidwaves/air-dried/dry weather/humid weather... life of a curly!).
My first goal is to make it to classic when wet (that should be around 43''), then classic when dry... then maybe fingertip!
At my current rate of growing... and if I don't hit another Big Stall... I should be at classic when wet in about a year... so I'll just set camp in this thread! :D
Oooooh, before I forget, latest length-shot (hands at hip)... it's curly, so you'll just have to take my word for it when I tell you I have almost 6 inches more that I lose in curl-shrinkage... :p

I'm about to give up. While S&Ding over the past few days, it appears that one hair out of every 10 is damaged in some way (roughened cuticle, splits, white dots, fairy knots). 10% crappy hair is not what I was going for.

Lovely curls dfotw and welcome!
spidermom - Oh no! Do you think it's just the length or something else causing the increase in damage?

dfotw I am in the same boat, about the same length, hope to be classic in a year tho I am already giving myself permission for a trim in August. Not sure how August became my trim month but it is. All I did this past August was a micro-trim so I am sure by Aug 2011 I will be need an inch off or so. I hate losing the velcroe effect of the ends. I always have such a hard time keeping it bunned after a trim.
rosek I am not sure I get what you are saying about the ends...
Gabriel those are my 3 favorite buns, esp. The nautilus is my default bun, the first one I learned at just past waist length. The rose bun I have finally perfected and thanks to spin pins (hair scroos) I can make it look quite lovely! The LWB is my most recent addition. It is my "working" bun. It seems to stay put really well. It is the nautilus I cannot seem to keep in anymore. I have gone to braiding instead of bunning but, alas, when I am working on the house (construction), it HAS to be bunned.
I have found that at TBL I cannot seem to wear my hair down anymore. It just goes everywhere and gets in the way. I cannot bend over or have to hold my hair when I do. I think I have been keeping it up for so long I have forgotten how to have it down. I am sort of discouraged, I did not seem to have this trouble at hip length.
Also, I am dreading shampoos now. It just TAKES. SO. LONG. Apparently my hair is both fine and thick, making it very easy to tangle. I have heard this from every stylist I have ever had cut my hair. They seem baffled by the tangles. And again, I did not seem to have this problem at hip. It could be that hip length is the ideal place for my hair, but I always wanted classic (just never had a name for it before LHC). I am hoping it is a phase and I will grow out of it. But whenever I wear my hair down, I just feel it snagging and breaking and rubbing on my clothes and I usually give in and twist it up in a bun to stop the madness. For me, tho, there is not point to the length if I cannot wear it down. If I just want bun-ability, I will cut back to hip! Ok, so just trying to figure out my hair. LOL.

I S&D'd until I couldn't stand it anymore and have been wearing my hair up since my last comment. I had it down to comb it out yesterday, and my daughter congratulated me for finally being at goal length. My hair totally covers my butt! I still can't prove it with a picture, though.

I am skimming upper tb, and since true tailbone will only be a couple of inches from classic, I'm going to start hanging around here until I reach classic...with monthly 1/4-inch trims, that should keep me here for most of 2011 :D

I guess we'll be looking at dropping in on the classic to knee thread now, although I don't think I want to grow my hair that long. Welcome Rivanariko! You've got some lovely hair!
I've been hovering here instead of moving to the classic to knee thread too. That's such a looong marker for me. My new goal is fingertip because it's the next actual marker for me that seems reasonable. Plus that might be where I stop since I'm really short and am not sure if I want to grow to knee yet.
On the 4th of January I'm going in for a trim, I don't think I will get much taken off the ends since they're relatively healthy but they are kind of thin since I had layers put in last year. I will probably have more trims this year so it will be slow growing while I thicken things up. So I'll probably hover here for a while...

GROW HAIR GROWW!!! I really hope I'm there by Summer. I haven't measured in a couple of months now, last measurement was 107 cm I guess... Classic is at 120. I had been at 114 once but the ends were too thin and I trimmed quite a lot. It helped the hemline but I hope I'll get to that lenght fast! I can't wait!!
115 cm will already be a huge milestone :) I will be measuring next time on January :D And I should take pictures too, haven't taken one in ages!

I'm almost at hip now and tailbone sounds really far away for me.
Hopefully around this time in a year i can join:)
Hmm, I never paid much attention to hip but I am about 3" below hip and just at tBL. I am guessing 6 months ago since I consistently gain 1/2" a month. But I have to say, hip length varies a lot more than TBL. My hips are low. I go by my actual hip bone (and the bottom of my tailbone for tbl) and not where it looks like my hip is. Seems a lot of people on here go by the curve or bump just before it tapers up to waist. To me, that changes depending on my weight, so I stuck with the bone itself. I spent a whole year figuring my length rate with monthly measures (not growth rate, because you have to factor in breakage and whatnot plus I couldn't measure my root-end growth, there was nothing to go by).

I'm struggling with the transition into less common lengths of hair. Do any of you have suggestions for helping with the image issues and how others see your hair?
I know to ignore obviously critical or rude people who assume they have a right to give their opinion about how you wear your hair, but I guess I'm less sure how to think others generally see my hair. I'm less comfortable wearing it down, and I'm not sure I'm enjoying my length as much as I thought I would. But I know I have always loved long hair and I still drool over others here who have hair longer than mine....does time and more length help you become more comfortable with yourself as a longhair?

It feels like its taking forever, but I should actually reach classic in about three months. That will be a fantastic landmark! After that it'll be onward to the land of knee.

January 2nd, 2011, 12:24 AM
SheaLynne, I think its the same as accepting any part of your body. For myself, I think my hair is beautiful and unique, and I think it makes me beautiful. Its versatile, and feminine. Its always been a self confidence booster for me, even when people just say the standard 'Oh your hair is long!'.
Other people will always make assumptions about you based on your appearance - for example 'her hair is long, shes trying to regain her youth' or other such nonsense. But you should always remember how you feel about your hair, and how it makes you feel.
For me right now, I wouldn't cut it because of comments other people made. I can't imagine not having its lovely weight around all the time.
In a round about way, I'm trying to say its all about learning to love your hair. If its thin or annoyingly thick, dead straight or frizzy and untameable, and no matter what length it is. If you can do that, you'll find other peoples opinions don't matter to you hardly at all anymore.
Good luck! I think your hair is beautiful :)
Edit: Oh I just noticed your signature. Exactly what that says! Embrace your hair :) All of it! ;)

SheaLynne - I think that Rosek hit it on the nose. Think about who you're growing your hair for, you or the rest of the world? When you're happy with yourself, the opinions of everyone else don't matter anymore.
Honestly, I myself have never had a really negative comment about my hair. I've had close friends make comments about the ends looking a little damaged while doing something with it, but not in a "Your hair is too long and needs to be cut off because it's long and bad!" kind of way that apparently other people around here have. I get a lot of "your hair is so long!" that could be taken either way, but I choose to assume people are saying that with a measure of respect or admiration, rather than ridicule. So I guess I never really thought that anyone would be thinking bad things about my hair being longer than average.
What it comes down to though, is that I think my hair is beautiful. My fiance thinks my hair is beautiful. My mom is jealous of my hair because it's the hair she's always wanted but was never patient enough to have, and she thinks it's beautiful.
I'm guessing I'll probably feel less confident leaving it loose in public when I'm at my goal of knee length, but part of that will just be because I'd be worried about it getting caught in things.
There is also a bit of an identity to it I think. I've always been a long hair by some standard, hovering between APL and waist pretty much my entire life, so even now that I'm getting into less common lengths, being a long hair isn't anything new. That I would imagine will come with time as you get used to a different image of yourself.
WaitingSoLong
January 2nd, 2011, 07:05 PM
SheaLynn, what kind of comments are you getting? Like you should cut it? I have never had a negative comment about my long hair which is probably why I keep growing it longer, because I like the positive comments. But also because I feel like it is "me". It is sort of part of my identity (like Sally Jessie's glasses or Jay Leno's chin). I think if I cut my hair I would be losing part of myself. Maybe long hair isn't you? Or maybe the unkind comments are causing you to question whether it is worth it? I am sorry, either way, that you are receiving less than compliments. I don't have any advice. I am not real good with tact and such.
Miasen! Welcome!

January 2nd, 2011, 08:05 PM
Thank you so much. I think reading the negative things people here are told affects me more than anything anyone has said to me personally. I start assuming the thoughts are negative.
Actually, IRL I was getting compliments when it was waist length and now they have stopped...it's almost like people don't know what to say. It just leaves me wondering what they are thinking, and since I am struggling to see myself with this new identity as the one with "really long hair", I am insecure about it. Haha Also, my 6 yo dd has past tb-length hair and gets comments and compliments every time she leaves the house, and then they look at me and say nothing...well, it leaves me hanging there!
A lady did say tonight that she bets we use a lot of shampoo at our house...I just smiled and told her that actually not much shampoo but a lot of conditioner! And I told her the story of what happened to dd's curly hair when she used gobs of shampoo on it and it was a massive frizzball the next day LOL
But, yeah, I'm committing to sticking with this, and figuring I will work through the "identity" part of it and keep growing it for me, but I figured probably someone else had been through some of this. Thanks for the outside objective (but long-hair-friendly) viewpoints!
Qamar

I would like to officially join this thread, although I am by now half way to classic.
About a year ago, I hit what had been my "ultimate" goal, TB. I spent a year thinking about cutting back to waist - a length that is still long, but more easy to wear down. But it was very hard to change a "grow, grow longer" mindset of previous 5 years!
Just recently I realised my hair was fairly close to classic - and if I let it, it should hit that milestone in 2011. So I decided I am going to go for it! :D
This was on the "last hair pics of 2010" thread, and although it's from a slight bird's eye view, it still shows that I'm close...

I haven't measured my hair since early november and I'm not going to measure for another few weeks.
Had to share: My cousin is a hairdresser and of course, has been dying and heat styling her hair for a while now. Her hair is so fried now, and she had clip in extentions. I'd never touched extentions before, the texture is so different to real hair! It feels a lot like doll hair. I'd be too scared to use any heat near it for fear of melting it.
Also, very exciting news: I'm getting married this year! XD

Hello to everyone joining in!
I love all the pictures!!
I took another pic of my hair today because I used a temp dye and wanted to see what it looked like (it looks like nothing, by the way, it didn't change my color at all that I can tell).
Anyway, I noticed two things in my pic:
1. My hemline is getting ragged. But I don't care
2. I only look about 4" away from classic??? Surely it is an illusion. I am slightly past TBL now but I always thought classic was 44" on me, however, I was following the curve of my rear and not just hanging straight down.
Ok, I edited to add the pic:

I'm leaving this thread for now. A couple of days ago I had my hair cut back to about hip length because it had been suffering from travelling in the desert and other dry places for some weeks. It kept tangling like crazy and there seemed to be split ends everywhere.
Funnily enough I am very happy at my new length and might keep it like this. We'll see.

Wow, waiting so long, your hair is beautiful, fantastic.
My wife has similar lenght, a little darker colour and a littlewavy... :) and I love taking care of her hair.
Who does take care of yours? husband? Boyfriend? Friend? O simply the hairdresser? :)
Thanks Lupiae. I don't let anyone touch my hair but me. ;)

Wow jel your hair is amazing, such a beautiful colour. Whereabouts do you get your Elumen and what shade is it? I've never been able to find any in the UK and the shade systems confuse me.
Anyway, I came into this thread to say I should hopefully hit classic towards the end of this year! I have less than 4 inches to go. :D I can't wait! I think I'll maintain once I get there to thicken up my hemline then it's on to the dizzy lengths of knee! I'm finally starting to feel like a longhair (despite always having long hair in most peoples' eyes).

It always makes me chuckle when people comment on my hair thickness. It must put out a great illusion. Someday I will measure the circumference. I never have.
My daughter has thick hair, thicker than mine. I will have to get her to let me braid it and take a pic sometime. She thinks taking pictures of her hair is weird. LOL. But she has a friend with UBER thick hair. I mean, one strand of her braid is equal to the thickness of all my hair. It is lovely, tho.

Thanks BelleBot! I got a couple bottles of red Elumen (RR@all) on German eBay and I used up one in 6 months (OK, 5.5 months). I just went for the brightest red I could get - I'm not one for faffing about mixing shades to perfection! Have you seen the long Elumen thread on the Conventional Products board?

Miasen, I have noticed that as my hair reaches different lengths, I have to adopt different up-dos. Now my problem, as I posted in the straight and silky thread, is that my hair spits out everything but spin pins. I can only do cinnabuns with those, and braided buns.
Anyone know any other kind of style to do with those for my length of hair?
Madora
January 20th, 2011, 02:21 PM
@Waitingsolong...You can do a cocentric braid bun.
1 Make a part from ear to ear. Take all the hair above the part, detangle gently, then braid and secure with a hair friendly elastic. Coil the braid in a circle, pinning as you go (weave the hairpins in an up and down motion).
2 Detangle the remaining hair and braid. Then pin that braid around the braided bun already in place.
You can also do this style with hair twists or rope braids.

I just graduated from Waist to Tailbone thread. And I have exactly the same problem now. Usually my hair grows ~1,5 cm /month and since December 2010 it just grows ~1 cm/month (I measure every 10 days and let my PC calculate the monthly growth)
I am aiming for Classic at the end of the year, which seemed possible (PC calculated end Nov), but now I am worried that I may have reached terminal. My circumference at the last 1 cm is still 1,2 cm So I have a semi-blunt hemline. I wear my hair up all time and I am not planing to trim, as I want to reach Classic asap.
But if some others experiencing the same problem, I may be fine.

This is my thread! :D
Before joining the LHC, I thought I was completely satisfied with my hair a bit longer than tailbone, but now I want a full classic hemline!!:D
My current hemline is a bit uneven, due to some careless microtrims I did some months past: my racer hairs are already at classic, I think, but I won't call my length "classic" until I have a "real" classic hemline. This is my current length (please ignore the obvious fact that I need to clean my wardrobe mirror :o):
http://p4tg4w.bay.livefilestore.com/y1p2RF6Cok7-vNjM5uDfx8zAtpElcT-iTgzEJyZsvqXh-XiVpMWDYxZG51XCPAzh_u2P3RyrFCmd23Ss6gGTHPFLXg9xr-LriJc/100_1760.jpg?psid=1
I've made the decision to leave the hemline uneven until I reach full classic, then trim to even.

I really need to find a new hairdo when I go to the gym. Usually have it in a braid, but it just keeps jumping all over the place when I'm on the threadmill and those machines. Buns are a no go for when I'm using the other machines as it's just in the way. Wondering if maybe a folded braid of some sort would be better? Need to do some experimenting me thinks.

I just saw a vid on TorrinPaige's YouTube about how she wears her hair doing some kind of dance-based cardio - she puts it in a Vortex Bun, but uses 3 rope braids to wrap (http://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige#p/u/6/-DF5HXky3B8).
The Vortex Bun (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=27288&highlight=vortex) was created by CinnamonCurls because she needed a way to wrap her iii hair in a bun that wouldn't fall out (so she wouldn't get fined in ballet). That should work for you, and once you've done it a few times it won't take too long.

Does anyone at tailbone notice that hair grows a bit slower? Does anyone know a way to fix with a diet change or something of that sort?
From personal experience, I was stuck in the long wasteland (waistland? :P) around TB for about 4.5 years. Now, from looking at old pictures this wasn't because of a lack of growth (despite stress) as my ex-fringe went from about shoulder to about waist...
I finally hit classic maybe late last spring but but by summer it was nasty and really going no where. I trimmed back to about TB last autumn and then joined LHC, learnt lots of new good techniques and have been wearing my hair up every day ever since.
It's been slowly but steadily growing and is now maybe an inch past classic - the longest ever - but still without noticeable extra tapering in the last few inches.
So, at least for my hairtype, I think that updos are the only way to progress past TB without ridiculously slow growth (due to increased damage, due to sitting on it) and ridiculously nasty, thin, split-ended, dry, horrible ends.
Just a tip for all you lovelies stuck in the waistlands. :P

due to many reasons I have neglected my hair for a long time and I find that that really made it in a bad state, especially the sleeping with the hair loose (and pulling it away between my back and the bed) but also wearing a cinnamon bun with a ficcare every day shows definete breakage at the lenth where the ficcare goes.
I now try to put it up with hair stick (which I think don't break the hair that easily) and I also try to put it up before going to bed. I do not really care about the damage right now since I will be giving birth soon and then I will get another (second) post partum shed and will be almost complete bald so it will take a very long time anyway to let it grow back nicely.
I had such a bad shed with my son (bald patches everywhere) and those hair came back (mostly) but are still so short (around earlength) ugh. I hope those same hairs will fall out and not other patches otherwise it will be really bad.
It is now a little away from classic (about 1/2 an inch) but I will trim 0.5inch off every month for this year to not make it less thin. The real thinning starts between waist and tailbone (a little above hip maybe 1 to 1.5 inch or so) and I am hoping it will not get higher (even with the shed I will get).
Also this gets rid of the henna in my hair. My uncoloured hair is stronger and around shoulder length).

I haven't measured for the month yet, but I feel like I'm still right at TBL. I don't think I've edged out of my "winter stall" yet. Not that it actually "stalls" in the winter, just doesn't grow nearly as fast as when I'm out in the sunshine every day, so it FEELS like it's stalled. I'm still hoping to get to classic before my wedding in July! I'll probably trim back at that point to make the ends look really thick and nice, but I just want to know that it IS possible for me!

I had my husband measure for me how much length I need to be at classic (coincidentally, the same length I need to be able to sit on my hair). He said 4-5". I hope by years end, if I don't hit the TBL stall everyone is talking about.
He also measured how long it needs to be before it hits the floor while I am sitting. He said I need another 19-20". Yikes! I told him I would probably never grow it past that length. By the way, that is mid-calf length on me.
I don't currently have a hair length goal, I am growing into uncharted territory and do not know if it will hit a length I don't like or something.
QUESTION: For those who are already at classic or close (or a few inches past 38" at any rate), was there an awkward phase at TBL that grew out? Or is what I am experiencing a product of hair past TBL? It is just...always in the way, getting snagged, doesn't want to stay in buns, just being difficult all around. I have a really hard time with washing (detangling) and it is generally annoying. I am wondering if I can even grow to classic at this point. Honestly, it was much easier somehow at hip. Is there some "workability" I have not learned yet?

WaitingSoLong, I'm glad you're mentioning it because my hair has been having the same (mis)behaviour and i've been considering cutting it back to tailbone. (I'm almost at classic, the deep point of the "V" shape does) I don't see many split ends, but it has started to love to tangle, something it never did before.
I think that there's some sort of turning point in how you should treat it? at least that's how I explain it to myself, maybe it's how I flick it out of the way when I sit or how I dry it, god knows, but I think I'll have to change something in my routine - or cut.

WaitingSoLong and Nymph, I'm half way between BCL and classic, but longer than 38", and my hair is behaving nicely. I was rather annoyed around BCL, which was around 38-39"... Buns weren't working, Ficarres were pulling, I couldn't just wear it down for work any more - I was seriously contemplating cutting back to waist! But I was too lazy (or too trim-phobic) for that, and now I'm enjoying my hair and various updos again :D

My hair suddenly got super annoying a couple of months ago, just as it was getting past TB. Getting in the way, almost sitting on it etc. It really is getting more and more difficult to wear it down if I'm doing anything but just standing straight up and down. I'm coming up with novel ways of keeping it out of the way when it's "down". I wear it as a half hair-scarf a lot of the time, or wear a hoodie and keep the length coiled up in the hood.
I'm still adjusting but it is getting more manageable as I learn to deal with it.

Anywhere: there is a good 2" difference for me between BCL and what I call true TBL (the bottom of my tailbone). I am actually not quite to the bottom of my tailbone, but I have been at TBL for a couple months now. I still have another 1/2- 1 inch to go before the very bottom of my TBL. It is PAST it wet, but I am so picky about these little details. LOL
I bet classic will be just as hard to pinpoint. I figure if I can sit on my hair, I am probably close.

I found my hair was starting to tangle a lot lately, at just past classic length. I worked out why - it was my brushing style. I was sitting down to brush it, bringing half over each shoulder and brushing it down my body. But, this now resulted in the bottom part not hanging straight down anymore, it was tangling around itself.
So now I have the brush standing up! :D Which is actually a pretty awesome milestone!

But I can't ever decide where classic length is "exactly", my hair's touching the beginning of my legs now, is that 'classic length', or should I wait until I am fully upper-thigh length to call my hair 'classic' ?

Ah yes! I can do the hypno bun again! I stopped being able to do it after I hit about hip. Now I have figure out what to do with the hair left over. It just would never stay before but I tried it again today and it stays well and looks great. FINALLY.
On the downside, I cannot do nautilus buns anymore. They just don't stay and it stick out way far almost like a bee but bun. I think it looks ridiculous. I am getting that way on infinity buns, too. Those were my "go to" buns on the fly. Plus they both hurt my head now anyway.
What are you guys'/gals' favorite buns at this length?

Ohh, I'm so glad to have the lazy wrap back now, and my go-to is the hypno bun--when I need it to stay *all* day, that's the one. I just tuck the tail around the whole thing before putting the stick in to hold it all. I'm just barely hitting true tb at about 38.5 inches.
It is hard to lose some of the updos as you go through different lengths, so it is nice to see that they come back when the hair gets on around to another length!

YES that is how I do it. It DOES stay put, too. I forgot about LWB! I will have to try that one, too. I am same as you SheaLynne, finally at true TBL at 38.5. COOL.

Oh, that is cool! (Of course, you already have the nicer ends, but I'm getting there one tiny trim at a time!). On the LWB, I have to position it right in the middle back of my head to get it to stay as well, so it's not overall as sturdy as the hypno bun, but still a good one!

Both fine, no frizzled ends thankfully.
My go-to figure 8 bun isn't working for me at the moment. Normally it's really smooth, but it's at an akward length where the ends poke out.
I've been considering going and getting a professional trim, but I don't want to have more inches cut off that I want. I'm going to have to do some research to find someone who isn't a hacker.

I have trouble with the Fig8 and Infinity as well. I just can't get the additional length stay where I want and if it stays it looks strange. I hope it will better with even more length. Maybe I need to figure out a long hair version.

My go-to bun is the lazy wrap, works every time, and sometimes I do a cinnabun, but not much else... I used to be able to do the figure 8 bun last year, but it's not comfortable anymore...
I really need to practice more bun styles, but it takes me so long to learn how to do one properly so that it's comfortable and stays, so I keep postponing :o

I have never tried nautilus buns (never heard of them before LHC! :o). When I want to have my hair up, I resort to anything with hairsticks involved: Chinese bun (braided or not), Celtic bun,... I have a fancy for 'hair-shortening buns' too, the ones where you ponytail your hair, twist your length around the band twice to create a kind of bun and leave the rest of hair hanging down - 'The Comet Bun' it has been called by fellow LHC members :D. I love that name, suits an Astrophysics' student :).
And yes, at this length, these buns without hairsticks tend to stick out a bit, but I'm happy with that, it sort of creates more volume to my hair, and that's my chief longing: more thickness!

Hmmm. I have absolutely no problem with a nautilus bun; it's my default. Nor the figure-8, which I'm wearing right now. There's not a problem with "extra length" because I just wind everything around the base. I'd never seen a hypno bun before, but now I'm going to try it!

My go to is definitely the cinnabun. So easy, especially with sticks.
I've recently learnt the Daeana bun/centre held bun and I really like that as well. Its good for toys that are too small, and the only braided bun I can get to stay up!

:( I tried the hypno bun yesterday, and it felt weird but didn't budge when I shook my head, so I figured it was good. However, when I got home from work and was taking off my coat and bag in the foyer, it fell apart, and my hairstick crashed to the ground. My Crisanti Glass hairstick. Which broke in half. :(

I'm sorry about your glass hairstick, isbmlamloi! Since hitting TBL, I have lost a Ketylo hairstick and a 60th Street fork (which was my favourite and always very secure in the past) from updos drooping or unravelling when I'm out and about. Recently I have been using only Ficarres and spin pins...

LOL I already have the most beautiful hair sticks I have ever seen! I made them until a couple of years ago with auto paint and industrial strength adhesives. It's actually kind of funny how it happened... I wanted a custom set from LongLocks but she told me that it would take her up on 2 years and cost me over $200 for my set. So I thought, "For $200 I could make my own hair sticks!" - over $2,000 (easy) later........ ROTFL I wanted to post some on the self made hair stick thread, but LHC told me that would be "market research" (even though I stopped making them??). It was more of a hobby - I only ever sold around 10 sets, and there's no way I would sell any of "mine" now. Can't even make a set for MYSELF for at least another year and a half (pregnancy and then breastfeeding...). But they won't even allow me to post the photos of what I made without risking my account. :uhh: I'm just so proud of them - learning to make them as I did from NO experience and the way they turned out - I guess I just wanted to share them with women who would actually appreciate them for what they are as well as all of the effort involved as opposed to trade show "gimme a deal" types... *sigh*
Thanks for the congrats!!!

STALL! :( ??
You all warned me it happens a lot at TBL. I have been benignly neglecting my hair because I am super busy. I have not had a DCT in a long time. I do not feel like I am shedding, I watch that closely (ok, neurotically) I am afraid it is either really a stall or breakage. My ends are starting to show wear. My last trim was August and only a microtrim I did myself.
I really baby my hair so it is probably just age and perhaps the fact the last 6" or so of my hair is dye from a few years back.
I haven't been measuring at all, tho, but I took a pic the other day and compared it to my October pic (my avatar) and it looks the same :O( Even tho techincally I was not at TBL yet in October.
I have been really tempted to cut it lately, maybe back to waist, but I am hair greedy. Besides, my 14 yr old told me the other day " I don't know anyone with hair longer than you" which he told me because some of his friends at school tell him "wow, your mom has LONG hair". He said he never noticed until they said that  :p silly boy. 2 week rule and I cannot do it. I have splits & dots on the last 4" at least but it doesn't look terrible to anyone but me.
I have resorted to trying the monistat. Actually, I was going to use it for my scalp rash anyway and I recalled seeing a thread on it here so I went and read about 40 pages of it over a week. I am using it twice a week and I cannot say it has helped my rash at all. My eczema is really bad now, too, I may have to go back to my Derm. and get something Rx. I thought it was the baby shampoo and coconut oil 50/50 I was using (my hair LOVES but CO is comedogenic) so I stopped using it, at least 2 weeks now, and no improvement.
Ok so I rambled. That is what happens when I neglect LHC for a week or so!

Hey :)
I'm at classic length now (knee-length in the shower). It was totally accidental. I joined to improve my thickness, and my hair just grew from waist-length to classic when I followed all the instructions.
Can I ask - do you ladies wear your hair down often? I've found the difference from waist to classic is that my hair is now very difficult to control when loose. (I'm wavy curly (2B/C)

When I had 47" hair I never wore it down. Too problematic, what with tangles and needing to keep it detangled several times a day. That's much too wearing and damaging on the hair.
SwordWomanRiona
February 21st, 2011, 08:02 AM
I wear it down at least once a week. My very fine hair's propense to tangling, but I like loose hair too much to keep it up all the time. I try to disentangle it more thoroughly after washing it, and that allows me to keep it loose a couple of days without serious tangle-problems.

I am at TBL and I don't wear it down a lot. Firstly I do a wear up challenge, although I have a 1 hair down day per month, I rarely use it. Secondly, I 've got Fairy Tale ends, so a lot of people, especially my family doesn't like the look and before they can think of scissors. I keep them out of their eyes. Thirdly they have the same problematic length as shoulder, just with much older ends. So have to keep them up until they are hanging free again or it will take much longer.
These are my reasons to not wear them down.

I wear my hair down fairly regularly. I go back and forth over the course of a day whether it's up in a ponytail, or in a bun with a hairstick, or down my back. As long as I don't go out in wind while it's down, it doesn't tangle too much.

Rarely wear it down at all. It's just a bother. Last time I wore it down was on Valentine's when my bf came over. Only a few hours of loose hair led to a tangled mess that took me forever to comb out, him sitting on it several times, and complaints the following day that he was still finding long green hairs all over his clothing alongside with threats that I was getting a hair net for my birthday present. :p

February 22nd, 2011, 08:01 PM
I very rarely wear it down outside of my house. Sometimes I'll let it down in the evening when I'm just sitting on the couch. I leave it down for special occasions when I want that little bit of "wow". I never used to get comments on it when I lived in Oregon, but long hair seems to be much less common here in North Dakota, so anytime I leave it down or take it down when there are other people around I get a lot of "OMG IT'S SO LONG!"
Which makes me smile a little bit :)
But in general, it's too much to manage if it's loose. It's either braided or in a hairstick bun probably 99% of the time.

I just trimmed 1 cm off but I am still a bit below TBL. I had to trim, because my hair semmed to slow down growth. The last trim was accidently on a retarding growth date according to Morrocco page and My hair grew 2mm per month less than the average for the same time the year before. :(
So I thought it might be a good idea to trim a bit on a lengthen day. I trimmed 5 mm and then I realised it was not even, so I had to trim another 5mm to even it out again.
I had a circumference at the tips of 11 mm before the trim and now I have 12 mm again. :) So I am not unhappy about the cut.
Welcome Cirafly24. :)

I've been trimming to thicken my ends so still just right at tailbone, but I think I'm gonna just let it grow now that it's getting warmer, I'm due for a growth spurt! My hair has NEVER been this long now I want to feel it on my bum! So I can't wait to see what happens! I only need about 3 inches to be half way to full on classic! So I say about this time next year I should be maintaining at classic length!!

skyblue...wow you started at bald, I am envious! I have never had the nerve to go bald but have always wanted to. Now that I am past TBL I don't think I could ever start over, though.
I haven't measured in a long time so not sure where I stand. I am almost to my 2 year LHC anniversary so I will measure and post pics then. I love feeling my hair on my bum in the shower! I originally wanted to maintain at TBL and am still leaning that way but haven't cut. I will not trim until August. I will probably take half an inch off then and see how my ends look but they are starting to look pretty bad. Actually, the last 3" is starting to look really bad. By August I should be able to take off 3" if I want and still be at TBL. Just thinking "out loud"!

I am finding that I need to do a lot more conditioning, leave-in conditioning at this length. And that keeping it down is very difficult.
I love it and have never had it this long... and am looking forward to classic within the year (fingers crossed). And I have finally figured out some updos that work again - my figure-8 bun is back (when my hair is extra slippery).
But my waves are practically gone - I think my hair is pulling to be a 1a soon! lol

@ Florida Mom, I am hoping for Classic this year as well. Computer says I should be at Classic on the 27th Dec. So it's gonna be close but hopefully Computer is right.
I have discovered that as well, I need heavier conditioners on the ends, so I use two different ones now.
