View Full Version : Tailbone | Classic

I was inspired by all of the gorgeous hair in the waist to tailbone thread to finally take a length photo for the first time in forever. I'm super scared to post it haha, but it'll be a nice comparison for this time next year. I think I'll be at classic by then. Yeah! Here is my hair looking the absolute worst it possibly can, fresh out of a bun. :p

The lower half looks like my normal texture but the upper half is somewhat crazy from being in the bun.
I think your hair looks fantastic, and I LOVE its color!! :heartbeat

Despite having grown at least 9cm, I feel like I’ve been stuck at tailbone for half a year now, hopefully early next year I’ll hit classic and possibly FTL by the end of 2023, I might even reach knee by April, 2024, according to my average 1.5-2cm monthly growth.
Grow my racers! Race to classic by Chinese new year!

Looking great! You’re definitely on track for classic by next year! Fingertip for me is an entire hand-length (literally from wrist) past classic so the idea of being able to hit both of those markers at essentially once is amazing.

Yes thank you. I haven’t trimmed for 3-4 years, I don’t find any split ends because I take good care of it with protective styles and daily oiling, and I intend to go on as a no-trimmer to reach my goal faster.
Here are some more from my Monthly hair photos after freshly shampooed, air-dried, and combed, yes, I only let my hair touch the comb once a month before the photo shoots.
You will find that if I brush it in a certain way, the hemline can be deceptively even-looking, which is pretty awesome.

That nasty shed I had after my 2nd covid vax is growing in and some of the longer hairs that remained after the shed are now just about at TailBone! :) I'm happy about that, as all my longest (oldest) racer hairs fell out then and I felt like I was back at Waist.

I think I'm calling it--I've reached tailbone for sure! But I am debating on a trim--if I trim I'll be at hip a little longer. It doesn't feel totally necessary bur the ends are dry and I've noticed a small number of splits, which I S&D'd.

Yes, it’s funny, because I have found out that somehow, cool lighting with a black backdrop on very dark hair often turns the surrounding into an eerie blueish tone on the camera’s autocorrect setting.
It makes me think about how henna combined with indigo creates the darkest hair color.
And also in Chinese, black hair is actually called "blue thread(s)".

I have the exact same thought! I’ve been TBL since June and even though I have 1.5cm/month growth, I don’t really see a difference on my butt ends. In fact, I don’t even think I’m a true TBL because the fairytails are so so thin.

Doubleposting but a day apart so does it count?
I had a trim tonight and took off a couple of inches off the very tippy-tips and about a half inch off the rest. Last year, when I got a haircut I felt like it was too much of a deep U and really didn't like it so I needed to take more off the center in order to soften the shape. Worth it, really, because friends: I don't think I have hair that can go much longer than a year without getting too worn out on the ends. Maybe having fuller braid-tails due to the less dramatic shaping will help in the long run?
In addition to this trim, I also did a gloss! I love the color - much better than last winter solstice's color gloss, which I thought was a bit too coppery for my complexion.

Thanks, BVU! I had a big illness-shed a while back and definitely those tufties of new growth are about 6-8” long so there is a big difference in the hair up by my head and the hair down at my ends. I think that coupled with with the hemline shaping last year was just a bad combo - I don’t have the texture or density of hair for a dramatic U or V hemline like so many people do.

Merci merci, embee. :flower:
New growth is wild! When my hair is blown out straight like this you can’t tell so much but when left to its own wavy wurly devices the new growth is so obvious (lack of weight permitting bouncy spirals; my hair can’t hold the curl once it gets too long).
I’m so glad you’ve got new growth coming back too!

baanoo, that looks so beautiful, shape and color:)
Can I ask what a gloss is? Is it damaging to the hair at all?
I can now pull my hair down underneath my butt when I'm standing upright. And it's not just one hair anymore. I can't take a picture until sometime after New Year's and not totally sure that it's already visibly classic, but I'm very excited I've almost reached my goal length.

Thank you so much! I’m feeling quite happy with my hair at the moment which is rare for the wintertime. ;)
A gloss is a demi permanent conditioner/deposit color without bleach/ammonia. You sit under a dryer with your hair all wrapped in plastic for about 20-30 minutes and it comes out so shiny and soft! The color gradually washes out with no damage to the hair. I’m sure I could do it at home but part of the fun was feeling all spoiled by the salon.

Just a few more weeks to tailbone and I’ll be moving in here!! Goodness I am SO excited! I think i get to give myself the permission to start looking towards classic now. I ultimately want to get longer than that, and I have hope that I can bcs earlier last year, i remember being able to sit on my hair when it was straightened for an event. I didn’t know about lhc back then so i don’t know for sure if it was classic. I cut it since then for the overall health of my hair, tho my ends were not tapering or thin. I just had a lot of split ends to deal with and figuring that out on curly hair was hard.
Classic length, my love, I’m coming for you!

Same, it's just such a wonderful series of sensations (I might have worded that weird sorry). From the joy of oiling and finger detangling the night before, to putting on a mask before you shower. The wonderful feeling of your hair becoming heavier and getting to go through the rest of your routine. I shampoo my hair once a week and every other week I'll wash it in the middle of the week with just water and a treatment plus conditioner to keep my hair moisturized - so it feels so rewarding to me when I do wash it and see my hair slowly improve/grow longer each time.

I've been trying to stretch my washes to two weeks (I've been at one week for several years, but my hair seems perfectly happy at the end of the week which makes me thing I can go longer) but I'm finding I miss the routine and the sensation of washing at the end of the week, so I might stay at weekly. Hello everyone! I've been lurking on this forum since mid 2021 and am finally getting up the courage to post. My hair started just above waist (84 cm/32 inch) and I think it might be just over tailbone now (108 cm/42.5 inch). Finding a good explanation for tailbone has been hard so I'm just using the measurement of 'touches the chair when I sit down'.
I rarely take photos of me / my hair, but I've been very thorough in keeping track of my hair growth so I hope that will satisfy instead 😊

My hair as of today, right out of the bun. Not entirely classic yet, but almost. The camera was about the same height as bsl. I'm a bit bummed. Just got back from a belated company christmas party and a colleague was kind of blunt and told me I'd need a cut, that it was pretty obvious my ends were damaged. I sort of get it. These people only ever see me with a braid, so they see my taper and sad tassle and judge based on that. What really bugged me though was a comment that she had talked to other colleagues about the state of my hair lol. It's a weird feeling to realise you are the subject of gossip.

Thanks! Some hair has definitely reached classic. I can pull it down, especially when it's wet. But the majaority still needs to catch up.

Thank you! From the top of the back pockets downwards, the hair is pretty thin and it helps that black is very forgiving.

Thanks Bat, that means a lot! I think I have now reached my goal length and will maintain, probably for the next two years, with half yearly trims. I hope that will make the hemline a bit thicker and especially more even. Currently the sides grow fester than the back.

Your hair is lovely, Finda. What a shockingly rude comment for your coworker to make. Perhaps that is her opinion, but one she should have kept to herself. Thickness is not the only measure of beauty and you have length and colour in your hair that is stunning.

How rude! Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but not all opinions need to be said out loud. And I think a lot of people have a warped sense of what healthy hair actually looks like, considering it's not that common with truly long, natural hair. Tapes does not equal damage, and even if it was damaged, it's none of their business. Your hair looks amazing to me - I actually really like the fairytale ends! Makes it very soft and romantic looking IMO. :blossom: And so close to classic, too!

For the past three months, I’ve been consistently measuring my hair growth from the same spot at the top of my head and it looks like I actually get a lot more growth than I thought I did. I need more data to be entirely sure of that, though. Keeping my hair in protective styles and oiling my ends might be the thing that’s helping me retain more length per month because I did not notice my hair growing this much before. Whatever it is, it’s so exciting! Slowly creeping past tailbone and I can’t wait to see how long it may get by the end of next month. I have marked April as the month where my hair may be halfway towards classic, but it feels so far away :’).

Here I am at 39", with braid waves so it looks a touch on the short side.
Ooh Stagecoach, looking great - what a perfect hemline, too! :flower:
:scissors:… I love how the LHC has made me appreciate my hair more actually, since I am seeing other people with a similar hair type and liking how it looks on them.
So true! This has been one of the unexpected side effects of being here for me, too.
Posting on my phone so I hope the image comes through...
I’m so glad you worked up the courage to post! There have been …many, many, many… discussions about where tailbone is so your definition is as good as any. :)

Thanks, all of you. Yes, the unsolicitated advice is what got to me, I think. I'm not always a fan of other people's hairstyles, but I don't go around telling them unless they ask for an opinion. I think for people with mainstream views about hair it's hard to make out a difference between for example bcl and classic. For them it's all bud-length, but they don't see the two years of growth it takes to get there. So my reasoning that I'm growing past my current length to cut back to it didn't make sense to them in the slightest lol These coworkers actually used to have quite long hair themselves, waist+ even, maintained for years, so with a thick hemline. Their length always seemed unreachable for me, but both have cut back recently to apl/bsl for reasons I don't know.
Talking about unsolicitated opinions lol Went to a metal concert yesterday with this hairstyle:
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48347&d=1675022357
The metalheads were a lot less strict about my taper :rockerdud During the break, it felt like someone had picked up my braid and let it go, because it suddenly started swinging. A couple of minutes later, a woman approached from behind, took my braid in her hands and kept petting it. She said something like: "Oh my god, how did you do that? It looks like fish bones. That's so cool." Adimttedly, it could have been a bit invasive to just pick up someone's hair, but in this setting it was okay and tone of voice was super friendly.

Gghh: I really have no clue about these things! I have never gone this long myself, so I have no experience to compare to and can't answer your question.
I had moments these days when I thought to myself I just wanted to chop of the ends. Because they started getting more and more straw-looking. I hadn't chelated in a while, and it had been a few washes since I touched it with shampoo (I usually CWCs and shampoo the lenghts maybe once or twice a month). When I rembered it had been a while since clarifyig I brought out the strongest stuff I have, my chelating shampoo, and now my ends are fine again! Yay! Reminds me that I always need to try this before making any choices about my ends..... Not sure why I suddenly forgot. It had been so long since I did a deep cleanse and stuff had started building up.
Haven't cut since beginning of june last year, and my hair is creeping downwards. Still at TBL, I'd say, but more solidly so now.

I think I have been at this length before I just wasn’t aware of it and thought I couldn’t go longer. I was young and impatient then. Not that much has changed lol
It’s so good to hear that your ends are back to being soft, i too forget that sometimes all i really need is a sour rinse for my hair to feel better again. I think by the end of this month, I should be more solidly at tailbone, too. I’ve heard that curls start to “curl” less at longer lengths, and I think I’m slowly starting to see that now. So it’s definitely a sign of subtle growth. Good luck growing!

I grow about an inch a month too. I hit a solid TBL in Oct and am at classic when my hair is wet, so it depends on the actual length of your hair, and the length classic is at on you. My classic is at 46 inches, and my hair is at 44 (Probably about 47 when wet).

I feel encouraged. In a huge shedding event early in 2021, I lost all my longest hairs, some of which were at classic. Today after my bath I discovered that I have One Hair that is almost long enough to sit upon. Last year this time I felt lucky to have a lot of hair just below waist. If I live another few years maybe more of my hair will again be at classic! Of course the length is quite thin below "the growing out bump" and the hair was pretty thin to start with, but hey, it's growing! :)

I felt that especially considering that classic to knee is even longer of a distance. Waiting feels like forever.
I think I’d like a nice color gradient that comes from sun exposure. Of course not enough to damage my hair, just a natural, gradual trace of the sun on me

Hope growing goes fast, Tuanyiji! :-) Great progress.
I actually feel like this part of growing has been the fastest so far. Maybe because I have never got this far before, and every new cm is breaking new ground? It's fun to feel how my hair lays differently now, you know, actually feel the growth and then look in the mirror to see it. Perhaps since I am also in a fast moving part of life with a growing family, it makes it easier for me to not think too much about how my hair grows, so I don't feel stuck.

Today, i noticed that my curls are at tailbone length when wet, without needing to be stretched. I’ve been feeling like the growing is so slow lately (this week) because you know how your focus shifts in and out of your hair hobby as life goes from relaxed to busy? But after seeing it in the mirror after washing it today, I feel like it first grows slowly before it comes in all at once. When did it get there I wonder?

I wasn't paying attention either 'till hip, so maybe that's why. I was at about tbl without paying attention actually (back in 2021) but cut back to hip in june 2022. So, I have never had to work through the stages down my back. Maybe that's why it feels like things are going fast. Besides, my goal is fingertip, so it's not that far away.
I am contemplating taking a cm off, I actually think I will. The question for me is more if I will do it myself or get to a hairdresser. I know they will be able to do a neater job in terms of the hemline, but I am scared that they will take off more than I want... and it's expensive too, like 60 dollars or so for just a trim.

Just trimmed off 0,5-1 cm today at a salon. Hair looks much better. At least to me, as I prefer a neat looking hemline. Hadn't trimmed for nine months. I think I'll do this once every six months from now on... I thought I'd get to my goal with no trims, but I decided against it, since I want to enjoy my hair along the way. I really liked the hair dresser. She understoodwhat I wanted and didn't start cutting more. She also didn't thin my ends (they usually do that, but I asked for a blunt cut). She did ask me if she could straighten my hair before cutting.... but that was not going to happen. Haha. I told her any unevenness will be my responsibility, as I didn't let her do her job properly as she wanted.

Hi all! I haven’t been active on here in the last few years, but I had an embarrassing long hair problem when I was out running errands today, and I can’t think of anyone else who’d relate. When I was here last, I was in the waist to tbl category, but I recently cut ~1” of fairy tale ends off an am now somehow classic stretched but look bcl to tbl most days due to curls.
Anyway, the about the incident… I was at the store with my husband buying some supplements and drinks, and I went to put the items on the counter so the cashier could ring them up. As I did so, I realized my hair was caught between two cans. Both hands were full and I didn’t want to drop anything, so I stretched out my arms to try to dislodge my hair. I was stuck the for an awkward moment with my arms fully outstretched and the cashier and my husband giving me an annoyed look, my curls stretching further and further but remaining stuck. I pushed the cans away and turned my head and FINALLY my hair dislodged itself. But geez. Awkward.
I’ll try to get a pic for proof of length early next week when I have the house to myself. ‘Til then, thanks for letting me vent.

Classic length curls!! That’s straight up magical! Though, I’m sorry that happened, normies just don’t understand how cool it is that it took some more time for your hair to be shaken off from those cans like that.

I know it’s growing - a pretty steady half inch per month - but the distance between here and classic seems soooo long!

Trying to figure out how to upload media, please bear with me!! :hmm: :hmm:
Here is my current tangly tailbone mess. I dye it a dark colour, and the tips tend to be wavy, possibly from damage. I don't use heat tools but I've used bleach a few times in the past to dye it fun colours.

I don’t feel like my hair grew much :(((. It probably has but I don’t feel like i see it. I felt really positive about it like three weeks ago and my hair is starting to feel longer when dry - so that has to mean something right? Plus I have been seriously growing it for around 5 months now. It’s definitely closer to classic now than it was in November. I feel suddenly so discouraged and I don’t know why. My hair being curly and making my hair appear shorter than it is might be a reason. I have to remind myself that even if I don’t see my hair growing, it’s still getting longer in its own way. Slowly and then all at once. I’ve still got March to grow through, a tiny bit every day

Lol I’d like for it to stop giving me imposter syndrome. Is it really that we continue to grow despite not being able to see it ourselves until one day it hits us that we’re at or near classic? I have to keep reminding myself that I was at hip months ago and even tailbone felt so far away then.

@gghh Just about. I found out I was at (wet) classic at the end of Yule. I called tbl at the end of Oct., but I think I may have called it way too late, as hitting TBL and Classic in the span of a few months is unheard of lol. Before that, I thought I was at hip for months, but in reality I likely hit TBL a long time ago and never noticed because it all lumps together in a way.

Aw thank you, gghh! I’ve had a looong journey from waist - lots of mechanical and some heat damage in the my pre-LHC life; if you look at my very first length photo from 2020 my poor hair just looks so …toasty. I trimmed most of my growth off three years in a row!
I’m sorry you’re feeling discouraged right now. Maybe time for a little “put it up and forget about it”? For me those feelings always seems to come and go and are a sign I’m paying too much attention to the goal! Xoxo

Just hit 38" as of my measurement from last week's wash. Photo is pretty dark, but I'm anticipating reaching the bottom edge of my bum in another .5" or so. I'm getting about that per month, so expecting to be about there by the end of April. I don't want to call it until I can really truly sit on my hemline, but I've been finding I'm already catching the bottom edge of my hair when scooting back, especially on softer seats. I'll be using an uncushioned wooden chair to decide when to call it, but either way it seems like I'll be there by summer.

Natural! I mess with the image a bit because it wasn't contrasting with my pants but my hair is very very virgin. I've always wanted blue/purple/silver hair but by the time I considered it seriously I had so much length I didn't think I could handle the damage lightning would do.

My initial estimate was that I would reach classic in 3 months. However, and this may be me being too hopeful, I think it’s possible for me to reach that goal in 1-2 months. I have all of April and May to see how that goes. I’d say my hair is about a third of the way through at the moment. This is all just so incredibly exciting! And I’ve also learned that scalp washes may just not be for me. My hair and scalp do better when i cleanse and moisturize it every 4th day

I'm obsessed with my hemline. When it starts to get too thin for me to be happy with it, I will maintain there and call it "blunt terminal." Love fairy tail ends on other people, but not on myself. Maybe this will change as I see the taper on myself, but we'll see.
Ooh~ we should both be graduating from this thread about the same time then! I only measure once a month, so I won't know if my April estimation was right for a couple more weeks.
I haven't tried scalp washing... I think I'd make a huge mess. Thankfully my scalp will tolerate washes pretty far apart, so I'm in the middle of stretching to two weeks between washes and still going well. Hoping to eventually get up to 4 weeks

I feel the same way about the hemline, but I have curly hair so I wonder if a fairytale shape is just what comes naturally to my hair. It’s cut blunt when I straighten it to trim once a year.
There’s still the end of April and May for me to check my length for sure. My initial estimate was to reach classic by July, but my growth and retention rate isn’t slowing down. It just looks so close and I’m starting to notice/adjust to the longer length considerably
I’m going to see if can stretch my washes to every 5th day and see how that goes.

Does anyone else see a change in length about every two weeks? I made it a point to ignore my hair until my next progress picture, so I compromised by checking it every two weeks instead of every day. There’s definitely a notable difference even if it’s just a little bit of growth. it looks and feels a bit longer after those two week increments

lol not me, I only take monthly photos of my loose hair and I rarely see a difference because it’s just 1-2cm of growth and with my fairytail ends, it’s undistinguishable.

I think I can finally call my ultimate goal classic :happydance:
Apologies for the picture spam, but I'm very excited. For almost 20 years I wasn't able to grow my hair past bsl, so this is epic for me.
Here is a current photo, right out of a bun, slightly clumped (Is that a word?:hmm:)
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48902&d=1682448950
Proof of length, I raised the brightness value to get more contrast, so the color is a bit off
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48901&d=1682448936
Brushed, to highlight my scraggly ends. I think the demarcation line where the hair starts to get transparent is a bit underneath bcl.
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48900&d=1682448922
My last haircut was almost exactly four years ago. Even right after the cut you could tell I have a tendency to develop a hole in the middle of my hemline. The hairdresser was very careful and didn't take off everyhing she could have.

Thank you ArtOfNoot, tuanyiji, Finda, and KokoroDragon! I'm so happy, this was my second ever goal met (my original goal was waist, and then classic), and it's full and even and I love it.
Mochichichi, wow, your hair looks super amazing. It looks like you have no tapering at all.
I notice a little, but am overall happy with it. I lose about 50% of my thickness from nape to ends, but I think a lot of it is in the part that lies near my body and some fairly evenly across the front.

It's official!! I hit classic!!
While drying my hair, I shifted in my seat and caught the edge of my hemline under my bum. So once it was dry I rushed to take a photo!! Just short of 39"
I think I'll still hang out in here for a while, because I haven't decided if I want to trim/maintain here for a bit before going for knee.

The hairdresser was very careful and didn't take off everyhing she could have.
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=48899&d=1682448904
I think for the next two years I will be maintaining at classic. My goal is a fuller hemline and my dream would be a u shape. Not sure if that's possible the way my hair grows.
CONGRATULATIONS Finda!!! I’m so happy for you - it looks amazing. :toast: :flowers:

Recently, by which I mean for the past few months, I’ve been really struggling to keep my hair up - anything that’s not a claw clip seems to have a 50/50 chance of leaping from my hair! I think it’s reached a new place where the wrapping on buns has to change a little! It’s wild, even the nautilus has been unreliable.
I’ve also been noticing how the chameleon bun, which I was my go to for at least a year, isn’t working anymore with my previous hand positioning. When I adjust the loops to accommodate the larger/longer wrapped base the whole thing becomes too loose and (though it looks very pretty for the 5 minutes it stays) immediately falls out!
Maybe it’s time to go through the encyclopedia and learn a a new bun?

baanoo, I've found that same problem recently with LWB and nautilus buns. I changed my daily bun to a neoma knot and it's been much better at holding.

I’ll try the Neoma knot - I haven’t experimented with knotted buns because my hair loves to tangle but it’s worth a shot!

YAY! The wise tooth comb sounds like a wonderful idea, why not? But also, I think you should do anything you want to do, even if it's not necessarily hair related!
Also, maybe some really nice artistic length shots? I think that classic length is arguably one of the biggest hair milestones and it's definitely worth documenting in a special way.

hehe thank you SO much for the sweet enthusiasm!! Perhaps some pretty high quality pictures under the sun with freshly washed hair? I have to brainstorm this a little bit
Update: I think I want to give myself princess treatment. Not just for this month, but it would probably be good to introduce those habits now when I already feel so good about this. Buy herbal/floral teas to use as a rinse, care for my skin better, complement my hair out loud while caring for it, etc.

Hello! I'm just going to (try) to commit to a couple of new habits, on my way to Classic length.
I won't try to aim for anything drastic because I know I won't do it. hahaha. I don't think I'll stop tying my hair up and ignoring it anytime soon.
1. every morning before or after showering, put oil on the very ends of my hair
2. every SUNDAY morning, wet the very ends of my hair slightly, then apply the oil
3. Make sure to take pictures/video of my hair at least once per year, like around New Years' Day
Those should be doable! I think it'll take about 2 years to reach classic length, so here we go.

Can I join? I've pretty much got a routine that works for me so it's just waiting....and waiting! I'm a little past tailbone length now and I think I'll be classic by summer. I have about 3 inches to go. Of course, my estimates have been wrong before but my hair is growing pretty steadily at 3/4 to 1 inch a month. I'm not very good at taking measurements that are even remotely accurate. I'll say "I have 4 more inches to go, sweet!" Then 4 inches later I'm not where I thought I would be?? So classic by June gives me an inch or two for error of measurement.

Congratulations on reaching your new milestone! :) Your hair is sooooo pretty, full, and thick!

I had an opportunity to wash my hair today. While in the shower, I knocked some stuff off the shelves with my hair while trying to put it in a bun post-conditioner. I found out that when I sit down, my hair can reach the seat. And that when I sit down on the shower seat to detangle, my hair now brushes my thigh so I've got to store the shed hairs I pull out somewhere else now. So I know it's getting longer even if it doesn't feel like it's grown at all.

Okay, so I know I said I wasn't classic yet but today I was dry detangling a couple of sections and I came across a few (literally a few) strands at classic length. At first, I thought they were shed hairs but they're definitely attached. I'm not calling it yet but it was super cool, like a glimpse of the future. I always thought my hair was most stretched in the shower but I guess it's most stretched when dry detangling. I think it's just the difference between pulling down clumps of hair and pulling down a single strand.

Thanks. I like to think of faster growing sections as heralds of the length to come. :blossom: My hair grows in natural layers with about a 6 inch difference between the bottom and the top.

Well, I think haircare is highly individual. I just had to find what worked for my hair. For me, in order of what I think was the most effective:
I stopped letting my hair shrink without any parameters. I now twist my hair and bun it to dry. (I know some people say don't bun your hair while wet because then it stays wet too long and causes damage, but I found the damage from my hair shrinking and tangling in the twists to outweigh the damage from wet/damp bunning.)
I started finger combing exclusively. (Combs and brushes always broke my hair, and hurt my scalp.)
I wear my hair in twists all the time to save time and effort so I started recycling my parts instead of grouping my hair together then reparting every wash day. This causes less tangling of my hair.
I also wear my hair up off my clothes all the time. That probably has some effect but I mostly do it for convenience.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I attribute my length retention to forgoing Wash&Go’s as it caused excessive single strand knots and breakage in my hair in the past.
Now I put my hair in braids as soon as i finish washing it and applying products. Then i let it fully air dry in braids. Because of this i don’t get breakage. So it is reassuring to hear something similar from another person with tight curls.

Hi, I'm on my mobile, so I hope the picture is not too enormous.
Haven't been around in a while. I've become a bit lazy with my hair. A couple of days ago I somewhat spontaneously cut my hair back 10cm. It's 5 cm above classic now. It's still a bit of a milestone because for the first time in forever, my hemline is almost entirely non see through. I'm super happy.
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49821&d=1711246070
The before picture looks like I had some holes in my hemline. The ends were definitely thinned out, but evenly. I had some trouble with electric hair and was unable to take a decent picture with my plastic tangle teazer as a brush.
I cut so infrequent, the hair felt instantly much shorter. I was almost at my fingertips und now it barely reaches the beginning of my hands. But I was relieved to see in the mirror that it still looks long. And the hemline feels sooooo full. I was always a bit self conscious about wearing my hair down due to the wispy ends. Now, that feeling is gone and I'm happy.

Both of your before and after photos, your hair looks gorgeous! And, your hemline does look much better on the after photo! I also love the length and color of your hair as well! Your length right now is my dream length! Or, I'm trying to set my long-term goal to ankle length. The thickness of my hair is like yours too! And, I have a good feeling by then my hemline will still be as thick!

Finda- your hair is so beautiful!! That trim really neatened up your hemline, it looks great!
I'm in this thread now! I measured 38.5" the other day, and I think I'm just at TBL!

Classic on me, I think is somewhere around 42-43". My hope is that I'll get close by the end of the year! We shall see.

Life has been really hectic lately. I've been neglecting my hair because I've had other priorities. But yesterday i finally washed my hair for the first time in over a month (and made a huge mistake that made my hair MORE tangled so now i have to work through that). In the shower, I pulled my hair down and my longest layers that i measure by are now past Classic. So I'm going to officially move to the Classic to Knee thread. I wish i had pictures but i just don't have time right now.....

Officially ready to join this thread! Through benign neglect my hair is TBL and I have renewed investment to grow it to FTL. I have started oiling again and need to find new buns to try because my hair is beginning to bun differently. My go-to has been 2 plain braids finished with ribbon crossed at the back going up over my head and tying back at the nape with the ribbon, tucking it in underneath the braids to hide it.

Oh, I never posted in here! I called tailbone in the Waist-Hip-BCL-TBL thread last month :D
I love feeling it creep from "Yeah I think this is TBL..." to "Definitely TBL"
Classic is my ultimate goal so this is the final stretch for me!

I dont have a sure answer in milestones, I think till my ends can still look full. Probably it's somewhere around ftl/mtl.

Just in the past few weeks my hair has started to not bun well. I think it’s reached a length for me that I need it learn a different way of bunning it. I am not even sure what style I had been doing, just twisting a loop then winding the rest under that section underneath/against my head then placing that loop around the wound section of hair before securing it. I also did a tiny trim. I was planning to wait until January but had the itch to trim so went ahead and trimmed maybe 1/2” off the ends.

Something similar happened to me this year so I just started doing a big twisted bun ontop of my head. But that's with my hair already in multiple twists. If my hair was loose I would not be able to get a normal-sized bun it would just always be ginormous.

I think I'm about 4 inches off of classic length, but I need a trim soon. I really don't want to sacrifice length but it is getting dire.

Update after a long while! My hair is a point where I think I can call classic. (Stretched, so I'll get a better feel of the length next time I have my hair straight) In reality I think I reached it a couple months back maybe, but things have been so busy my hair hasn't been top priority. My ends are very thin though, so I plan to keep growing!

I initially reached classic about 6 months ago with the first few stretched strands, now more are coming along the way. I didn't feel confidently enough about it to say it was at classic yet but now it's there for sure, so I'm graduating from this thread, or at least from lurking in it :cheer:

It seems that I am spending more time between tbl and classic than I did between any other two body milestones. Which is a bummer because classic length is my dream length (I think long hair becomes fantasy long hair once it extends past the upper body). I think I just had a number of growth spirts in the beginning of my hair growth “journey” which has given me false expectations.
