Hah I just showed your picture to my granddaughter. She was surprised that was not a braid, lol.
Honestly, it looks like two of my strands are pissed at each other and are each trying have a go at choking out the other strand, almost making a dreadlock in the process. They are probably part of my 'forelock' (except it's slung to the back) which seems very tangly always and unruly.

Lol, mine are not as impressive as yours, but yes, sometimes 2 of them decide to "tangle" with each other.

Thanks!
I feel like this is the point where I either say "I'm good, I think I'll keep this length" or decide "to infinity and beyond!"
Congratulations, and I totally get where you're coming from. I made my original goal as knee length, but really, this place between tailbone and classic is a lot of hair already. I want to keep growing to make it to my original goal, but I am also realizing that classic length is a really nice length where I could be comfortable and happy forever. At this point, I'm not really concerned with trying to make length goals quickly as I am about enjoying it right now, and improving the thickness at my hem and the overall health.

I did a trim. Took off about .5" and am so pleased at the difference it's made in my hair. It's been a few months since my last trim, but since I trimmed a bit off, it's so much easier to detangle my hair!
My hair's on track to hit about 40-41" by the end of the year. I'm hoping then, I'll see how my hemline is faring, and decide if I want to grow past classic, or if I want to thicken the ends.
It's been a few months like 10 montths since my last trim too! I only trim once a year. Or, if ever needed. My hair and hemline is automatically thick. I'm just trying to grow mine pass classic too! About mid thigh length. Hopefully I will get there by the year of 2019. We will see. But you have a very nice hemline. Your hair overall is just gorgeous!

Thank you :)
It is exactly that. I used to worry and be sad about my hair just not growing and was eager to see if it could get any longer at all. Once I passed waist I realized that longer *might* be possible, then once I got to BCL I was content to just wait and see. It already grew more than I imagined it could and this is good. It's even beginning to feel heavy, which my hair never did.

Okay. As of the end of June, I'm 0.3" (1 cm) away from my goal. My average growth is 1.5 cm a month, so theoretically I should be there next month! I can't believe it, in the literal meaning of this expression.
In the pics, my hair might look like the ends are past classic, but that's a perspective trick. (Pics taken by DH who is 6.7 feet (203 cm) tall, so you know :D) In reality, the longest ends are 1 cm away from classic when stretched.

Congratulations on reaching your goal!!! I've got a long ways to go before I reach classic length. Right now I'm between BSL and WL. Am looking forward to reaching WL this month when I do my relaxer also this month, and my hair's length will have stretched out to WL!!!!

I've just measured my hair to check July's growth. And the tape shows 112 cm (44") which means I've reached my goal after waiting for it for 7 years and 4 months. Pictures will come soon :) I've been waiting so long and the moment of achieving the goal was so... quiet and kind of small... just measuring, you know – that I haven't fully understood it yet.
I also have to say that I am at classic, but with ends that are dryer and thinner than I thought they would be, they are too thin and dry for me to be completely happy, so I have the length, but I need to work on the condition of my hair to fully enjoy it. And when I have thicker and healthier ends, I will let it grow a bit more, to achieve classic-when-dry. (At the moment, it's classic-when-wet or stretched, but with the ends being so dry and fragile, I really cannot wait any longer. I have to stop here and go through several months of trimming the excess growth.)
Yeah, baby those ends up. So, they can be happy and healthy! Condition them a lot, and keep them moisturized. That's what I do for my ends to keep them from getting dry.

Congratulations!!! I'm so jealous. I know my hair is growing but it just seems like it isn't. I decided to grow out my bangs after years of "I have to cover my forehead" paranoia. I just need to put it all up and forget it for a few months. Winter is coming so that will help.

I'm leaping into this thread! Here's a photo from the end of July, and I'm pretty confident calling the length TBL now if it wasn't quite then; the ends juuuust barely reach a chair seat when I'm sitting (if stretched; otherwise the waves bob the ends up an inch or so).

I hit a surprising mini-milestone just now. Here I was thinking my butt of bigness was keeping my hemline quite a way from being sat on, but (butt...) after letting my hair down to detangle while sitting on the bed tonight, the hem hit the bed (over and over as I checked, and combed, and checked, and combed... hehehehe). Okay, softish sitting surface and all (only a sheet covering it, though), but wooooo! Wooooo? I sense trouble coming! :p It's certainly something I'll have to be aware of if my hair is down and I need the toilet. :wethree:

I've made it a habit that, even if my hair is loose to dry, I tie the length in a knot or do a very quick crochet braid to bring the length up a foot or two as soon as I go in the bathroom. The knot/chain is easily undone afterward and it'll save me from any accidents to start before it gets quite long enough to have them.

My hair's just passing waist, so I divided and conquered... kinda. This is just my first let's-see-how-this-goes attempt. Fading light. Hair needing a wash. Bad stabbage of hairstick... You know how it goes. :p As a half-up it looks a bit stubby, but sucked into a lower chain bun, it's not too bad. I can see thinner chains in my future, although as they eat so much length, it's what happens with those chains/accents that's the fun part...

Yeah, it's basically just taking the technique of crochet chaining and using it on your hair to eat up the length. Make a loop, pull through to make another loop, pull tail through loop to make a third loop if you can, and so on. It takes a LOT of length to be able to do, but it eats the length up quickly and easily.

I originally was struggling just to get to waist or past. Well, I'm definitely past! Welcome to the new tailboners, from another new tailboner (that sounded wrong).
I'm beginning to feel like my hair is uncomfortably heavy :(. My hair is normally very light. Any tips/tricks or do I just have to get used to it?
If your hair is uncomfortably heavy try not to apply too many products to it. I mean, you can apply your oils or so but like heavy creams of so stay away from on extremely long hair.

It's always lovely to see that pic of your hair, lapushka! :D
:wethree:
woooo! I simply wrap the tail around my neck at least once to keep it up and out of the way. I'm quite guilty of some extra brushing to hear the flop behind me xD

Hi! I'm a little need here haha. My hair (tip) is down to TBL (my hair is voluntarily layered as I like the look). It might've been classic if I didn't (impulsively) cut it last November up to waist (bit it feels so healthyyy. I've staved off the hunger for haircuts and change by dyeing a small streak purple...then blue...then silver...then pink...) Any advice on styling and the like? http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/image.php?u=22909&type=sigpic&dateline=1466049353 <Picture from a month or two back

I was so startled and excited about two days ago when I sat down but felt a huge tug on my hair. I was visiting my neighbor and thought maybe it was her granddaughter teasing me. (That would be par for the course for her). But she wasn't home from school yet. Then I realized with delight that I had sat on my hair!!!! Kind of a rude way to discover it..... But then I was so excited!!!!!:joy::happydance::hifive::bottomsup:
Then I felt bad for having thought badly of my neighbors granddaughter. I was extra sweet when she did come home from school. She probably thought I was acting kinda suspicious.......lol
It's not classic yet but edging down there.........

I practiced posting my new picture on the picture thread and updated my Avatar and signature to show my hair growth this year with last year's picture side by side. I didn't get as much growth as I had hoped because I gave in to temptation and had a couple of salon trims. And of course they took too much off.
:shudder::justy::wail:
I am going to try some of the tips mentioned here at LHC for sleep time hair management. My braid tassel is getting pretty beat up every night on my lovely cotton sheets. I think this is what has been causing so many splits ends. I am going to invest in a satin cap for night time.
Here is full length picture for perspective.

How long did it take to grow from tailbone to classic?
Depends on how far it is between when you call tailbone and when you call classic. For me, it's about 4 inches or 8 months. For some, especially if they call tailbone at the sacrum instead of the coccyx, it might be twice as long or more.

Took roughly a year last time. But why don't you just measure?
It's easy enough. Measure from TBL to classic on *you*, and then multiply that number by 2, for how many months it's going to take.

I feel like I’ve been TBL+ forever, but only because the shape of my body puts tailbone much, much closer to hip than classic. I started this journey aiming for hip, and I ultimately think I’ll cut back to somewhere in the waist-hip range, so I can wear it down more, but I’m still enjoying the adventure for now.
This is the longest my hair has ever been.

I wish that I was where you are at TBL+ right now but just for right now I am happy with it being WL! I think by next year sometime I will reach TBL+. Yeah, classic is just below the buns. I've got a while before I get there but I'm sure that I will someday soon!

I'm contemplating a microtrim. My ends are allover uneven with just a few strands that have sped past the rest and are sticking out down there. But when I look at them, they look so nice and healthy. It seems like a shame to cut them. And then I think that once they stop growing and enter their resting phase, then some of their neighbors will have a chance to catch up. If I trim now, then I'll just have to trim others later that pass them. Does that make sense? Is that how it works?
It's been almost a year since I trimmed last and I had planned to go longer. I'll see how I feel about it next week.

Huh. I think I'm at classic. I was trying to do some preening while sitting, and having an awful lot of trouble... It finally occurred to me why. Even sitting on a hard surface, I can just barely catch the longest ends under me, until I move. Quite the surprise, because I've been feeling like the growth has been really slow lately, but based on my last measuring, it's actually right around (maybe even slightly over) the average 1/2" per month for this stretch. No length shot yet, though, so I guess I'll stay here until I have it!

It might be how it works. If they're not bothering you, they're healthy, and you're happy with them, you may as well keep them growing. It would annoy me a lot, I like all my hairs to be the same length as nearly as possible. It's why I trim my hair when wet or heavily oiled so I get as close to even as I can when stretched.
On that note, I just trimmed and now I think I might be back above TBL. I'll be back very soon, but I think I just went back a thread.

I’ve quit braiding to sleep - I really hate how braid waves look and feel in my hair, and I dyed the ends pink and purple, so I need to keep those off the sheets for the next little while
So, for the past few nights I’ve been experimenting with different ways of securing a bun on the top of my head, with varying degrees of...success? The only one that isn’t making me totally crazy is a sort of Gibraltar secured with a telephone cord hair tie, but I think I need to find a super short stick to hold a nautilus (or the gib).

Thanks, psyc2321!
While classic is my goal at the moment, it's really only an intermediate goal. My longer term plan is to keep growing it until it's more trouble than enjoyment. I toy with the idea of fingertip? knee? if it will even grow that long, but I'm also very aware I'm close to needing to make more changes in my routine, especially for detangling, even though the detangling is pretty easy in my current routine. I already notice how far away my ends are when scrunching oil into them. I'll probably move to trimming a bit more often once I reach classic, since my ends are thin enough (though thankfully not very obvious in the picture) and will only thin more if I don't. Also if it gets much past classic I'll probably be less inclined to wear braids that aren't bunned.

...A little late to the party, but that is so pretty, pailin, and you are suuuper close.
Stretched is not the most flattering look for my hair, but for someone whose hair isn't super wavy it's weird how much length I gain when I pull it completely straight. I guess it's because my ends like to bend and they're pretty wispy to begin with.
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=29296&d=1511714518
I trimmed a bit a few weeks ago (oops) so I'm trying to keep perspective, but it feels like my hair is growing so slowly. I think classic is definitely my final goal because I fear my ends are starting to show the effects of wearing my hair down. I'm not willing to give that up, so I have to accept the damage that comes with it, I suppose.

Hi guys. I pretty much just hit and officially called tailbone (yay)! I can barely believe it. Looking at everyone's hair here seems soooo long, so it's amazing to think I'm among all you guys, too. How aweomse! :disco:
Because I can't resist, here's one of the most recent pictures I have that shows the length:
Welcome! Your hair looks good :)
I'm like that too. I look at others hair and think "wow it's long. I wish that mine would be the same length." Then I realize that it is

Congrats on reaching tailbone length! I consider that really long for me. I know that others think that it is still short but I don't. I consider WL on down very long.

So, what's this about our hair being long? When did that happen? There are a lot of longhairs of all ages where I live, and I have a hard time thinking I'm blending with them. Yeah, obviously my head hasn't caught up to what's tickling my butt. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand, my hair's still shorter than many of my inspirational friends and members on here, so I feel like I'm not worthy of claiming "long" yet. They're long. Me, nup. It's "getting there" though.

I think for me it’s that, because my hair is up nearly all the time, I lose touch with how long it really looks down. So I’ll see someone wearing their waist length hair down and have a twinge of jealousy, and have to remind myself that my own hair hasn’t been that short since Australia Day last year :happydance:

It's funny, mine's down a lot when I'm at home, but only one mirror that we own can reflect all of my hair at once, so I forget that it's longer than bsl in front because I can't see any farther than that!

So close to classic-when-dripping-wet that I'd have to put on a neck brace to prevent leaning and have someone get way too personal with my butt to confirm it. I'm gonna trim next week probably nearly all the way back to tailbone (I'm leaning more toward 3-4 inches than my former guess of 2-3) so I'm not leaving this thread, but it's good to know I'll make it at least back to classic, and this time with a much thicker and richer hemline.
We are all doing so well, our hair is looking fabulous, we're living the longhair dream even if some of us still dream of more. Go us. :cheer::applause:toast:

I'm trimming back because I have some layers left from long ago, making my braids taper and shred really bad in the last few inches. It looks all fine until the last 2-3 inches of the braided part and then it gets very small and starts popping out huge sections all over the place and I hate how it looks on me. Once I take the bottom ~3 inches off, all the layers that are left will be in the braid tail. No more shred, no more sudden taper, and I get to wear my braids loose again without feeling I have to redo them every hour or two.

Oh, ok cool. That sounds like a good plan. Yeah, when I braid my hair in 2 braids I get layers too but when I take them down it looks really nice on me. Even though I've never cut my hair in layers before. I guess the layers came from breakage from some time ago but I cut away all of that now, and now my hair is much happier.

I get you on the layers- that's why I tend to leave a longish tassel, and why I did 2 one inch trims this year.
And I love what you said about the long hair lifestyle! I need to remind myself of this more often. Sometimes I still feel like I need another 6 inches for it to feel long.... But I've been starting to get the r-word- Rapunzel, which is kind of cool.

I'm definitely a little past tailbone now, about 1.5-2 inches from classic, maybe? I'm planning to grow another 1/2-1 inch, then do microtrims to thicken and even up the hemline for a while, then head on along to fingertip. So excited to be this far along in my goal!

So I’ve been messing around with WaitingSoLong’s “classic+” double wrapped nautilus, and my hair is long enough! I’ve been wearing it all day, and it’s sooo comfy.
Granted, I don’t have to wrestle with too much thickness because a fair chunk of my iii ponytail got sacrificed to the fringe gods when my hair was thinning, and I don’t have the patience to grow it back out. But still! Exciting times.

*keeps hands firmly at my side* Gawd no. I've only recently, like in the last year or so, been able to do a nautilus at all. Too much hair, not enough length. But if I split the ponytail in two (finger-split with the pony in hand, no hairtie), then I can do twice the buns, stacked. Or split it in three for three times the fun, with one of the wraps rotated in the opposite direction before sticking/forking/pinning for even moar bunfun.

Whoever is able to do a double nautilus, raise up your hands! I wonder how long my hair will have to be before I can do one...
The trick I found was to go back to using three fingers instead of my whole hand. I still only get two wraps around the centre, but it holds as well as my regular nautilus (more hair outside relative to inside helps centre held buns, I find), while being a bit looser and looking bigger - which is nice, because my fine hair compacts like crazy.
Cg
December 14th, 2017, 05:19 PM
I can do a double wrapped nautilus with the whole hand, possibly because my hair is superfine and thin. It actually seemed to hold somewhat better than a regular nautilus too. Can anyone explain why that should be?
pailin
December 14th, 2017, 09:46 PM
The loop of a nautilus is sort of like a frame for the bun- the double wrapped one basically gives you a bigger frame for containing the base of the bun, and maybe that makes it more balanced, in a structural sense, especially if your hair is relatively thin.

I can do a double wrapped nautilus - only discovered them a few days ago, and I prefer them to a normal nautilus, I have to say. I just like the look of them, they give the bun more oomph, and I like oomphy buns :p My hair is fine and compactible, with buns so I need MORE hair to get BIG BUNS :)

I can use a large Ficcare Maxima on a double wrapped nautilus bun, but I can’t on a regular nautilus bun without the clip turning after a few hours. I wonder if it is because the double wrapped nautilus is more balanced for my tapered hair?

I'm going to be between tailbone and classic for a loooong time. I just cut 2". Counting the 7 hairs that I cut 3/4" and another 1/4" then 1", that's 4 inches total for the year.
I could technically could keep growing just a few strands but I can't stand it. I'm happy with my hemline now. The damage is just too much to keep growing consistently. I'll have to cut about this much every year. Ombre years ago did me in, but a home keratin treatment (following the advice from the keratin thread) were the nails in the coffin.
Oh well. I am accepting my limitations. Hair always grows given enough time...

Well congrats to you! :D I think with a relaxer WL is an amazing goal to reach. I have not heard someone with a relaxer hit that milestone yet. So it's super special in my book! :D
Thank you! :D I also think with a relaxer WL is an amazing goal to reach too. Yeah, I also have not heard someone with a relaxer hit that milestone yet either. Yes, it is super special in my book too! :D It's all about proper haircare!:D

Does anyone else feel like they won't be spending much time in this thread??
For me, the difference between tailbone and classic is only like 4 inches, which shouldn't take more than 8 months. I was in the previous thread (waist-tailbone) for over a year though!

I feel like by the time I feel I properly belong, I'll be wondering if I'm really in the next category. I'm still in the "bcl or tbl" gray area. By the time it's solid tbl, no doubts, I'll probably be 2 inches from classic. I do get more damage at this length, though, so maybe it'll take me a year for those two inches.

Yep. I reached TBL in August/September. We're at the end of December now and I'm halfway to classic - gosh, I *must* have had a growth spurt, must have! I think about 3 to 4 inches and I'm there as well.

TBL to classic is 10 cm for me. I'll trim my hair, maybe 2 cm in less than a week and it will take me back to tailbone (I'm at TBL+ right no) so I'll be here for a year or so.

When my hair grows a little bit past classic, my hands suddenly aren't long enough to reach the ends to apply serum on them :D

Haha! I totally understand that, although I (think) I plan on growing longer anyway. But I have been running into various small roadblocks with handling it as it gets longer. I guess I'll see what I can really handle as time goes on

I think I'll be here a while, but maybe not as long as the previous thread where I did a lot of chopping and changing with my hem and layers. Although, depending on the feels, I may not go past classic and find butt dwelling is the end of the length story for me. Sooo, this may be mah home, too.

Oh, I forgot, I think I belong to this thread. I reached Tailbone about a month ago. I might just grow to Classic and stop, though I’m curious about my terminal length.
Day-to-day handling of my hair (bun, detangling) doesn’t bother me, so far, but the air-drying after washing is getting on my nerves because I’m almost sitting on my loose hair, that somehow wraps around my arms, etc.

You are so lucky to be reaching Tailbone Length! When I first joined the LHC 7 years ago I had set my goal to Classic Length too but now I have set it to grow a lot longer to Ankle Length or Terminal Length. I'm also curious to see where my Terminal Length ends too. My hair right now is Waist Length, and I don't ever have any problems with detangling and bunning either. I also let my hair air-dry too but I'm not sitting on it yet.lol But hopefully by this time next year I'll be reaching Hip Length or Tailbone Length, and I'll be sitting on it for sure.lol

Congrats on TBL, pandabarrier! I also think I'm going to stop at classic -- and maybe never graduate from this thread, as I see myself keeping my hair at TBL+ or classic indefinitely.
I think I've gotten to a bit of a tipping point in several regards at this length. My unbraided LWBs seem to be getting less secure, and require a fork rather than a stick if I'm going to be doing much of anything. I'm not racing along in terms of length anymore, but I think that's a mindset thing leading to increased trimming leading to less length gain. As I've said in multiple other threads, I'm getting preoccupied with my hemline. I don't think I have that much damage  so I suspect it's just that I finally am at a length where my thickness needs a chance to catch up.
This is the longest my hair has ever been. Last time I grew it out I got fed up around/just above TBL. I'm going to try really hard for that to not be the case this time!

Thank you for saying so. I'm tentatively planning to suck it up and do no trimming until July to avoid getting scissor happy. :scissors: I'm so anxious to get to classic! And there will always be the opportunity to maintain to let thickness catch up later. It seems to just be a matter of time, based on how it's been growing.
Also I forget that TBL is long a lot of the time too.

Cross-posted elsewhere but since I'm hoping to hit classic this year I figured I'd share my progress. This is my hair as of last night. It's nearly halfway down my bum when stretched. The crook of my fingers on the left side marks my waist.
I think I'd like to maintain at just below classic before growing even longer to see if I can work on my hemline. I've got a bit of a fairytale going on and while I think my hair tapers naturally, I also blame trying to S&D a couple of years ago and also various attempts at layers over the years. Never again!

I think your hair is beautiful.
I would love to try to work on moisturizing my curls more. It does take a lot of work, and trying to make the most of the texture that is there. I dream that if I did work hard, my hair could get closer to what you have achieved.
Your hair is definitely goals.

I finally figured out that my hair has problems moisturizing because it's low-porosity. Oiling never gave great results, and deep conditioning was meh, but I've finally been figuring out my hair's particular quirks and needs. I'm sure your hair will be even greater as you figure out what your needs are, too! And thank you for the lovely compliments.

Weird, isn't it! Serms slightly rude, but it's true. Anymore I like to refer to it in terms of sitting - as in, getting long enough to accidentally sit on. And if I tell people my goal, I tell them I want it long enough to wrap one braid around my head (which seems to be approximately classic).

this is a great way to describe length goals. I have a similar goal for myself... but I want the length of the braid that goes around my head to be fat and equal thickness the entire way round... so with taper involved I think that'll put me at like calf length. Ay! this is gonna take a while.

Thanks guysǃ It really is a big milestone for me. And yes, I am there already stretched. I find it sags a bit over my left ear (I wrapped it up that side), and the opposite on the right side, but it stays pretty well regardless. And I was afraid that it wouldn't look so good with all the taper, since it's not long enough to tuck the tapered ends under yet, but actually I suspect I was the only one who noticed that. Also my face-framing bits are one-sided, so I think the asymmetry just works. I am loving my new ffl's by the way; and it's really easy to make them look fantastic. I pull them into a curl above my hairline, pin with one bobby pin overnight, and they're perfect curls in the morning, with no work.
The really fun thing was when one of my coworkers (I had already taken and posted this picture) commented on my hair. She insisted on taking a bunch more pictures for me, including the backǃ Made my day.

I have approx. 2/3 inches left to classic length, stretched. So that is 4 to 6 months. That means, I will be growing over classic at mid-year which will be significant for me, because classic = comfort for me, and anything beyond that = difficult. We'll see.

I am exactly the same distance according to the measurement from the salon the other day! I've got my fingers crossed for end of summer.
And I don't know if I've mentioned in this thread (I know I have elsewhere on the LHC), but with this length, my LWBs are loosening up and falling out. This happens even when I use a fork. It takes about an hour. Used to be my go-to lazy style. :( I need to try using another finger or doing the double wrapped LWB, maybe that will be a project for this week.
I am in uncharted territory, this is longer than I let it get last time I grew my hair out. That led to a BIG chop because I decided it was too much for me. shudder: But I don't think my hair is in danger this time, I love it this length and can't wait to reach classic.

I just make my LWB looser as the length grows, but I still make it tight enough. I have been able to wear a LWB to just a few inches over classic, so far (back when I was that length). I am regrowing for the 3rd time this time around.

My hair is now TBL when wet, even right after a recent trim.
On the other hand, I'm unsure this length range is right for me. I like being able to feel the ends of my hair on my back, but as it grows from TBL to classic, it touches my back less as it's held away. I'll have to decide whether to keep growing or maintain it at BCL-TBL.
