Thanks guys - I wasn't a fan of the waves so much, but I was very happy with the thickness!
AnqeIicDemise, you look to be nearly Classic? How far do you have to go? Awesome colour too :)
I believe about another two-three inches. Almost there. I just have a big butt.
@DeadlyUnicorn Thank you. I am so glad I finally bit the bullet and went for it. I have been dreaming of this color since I was a little girl. I blame Anne of Green Gables.

I've gotten to where it brushes the back of my hand all the time now. Such a lovely feeling! Can't wait for classic! Will have a proper update when i get back to a tape measure. :)

Yay for those of you there or close. I cut back to 38 inches in May, I'm back to 39.5 inches. Classic is generous 44 inches. I'm hoping I can call classic by the end of the year.

I don't know what I did, but my hair is growing like a weed. I'm almost back to classic again and it's only been a couple months. And it's a lot thicker now that it was before. I can hardly put my hand around my cinnabun.

Long time no post!
Life got in the way and it has been months since I visited LHC. And guess what happened while I was busy? I reached classic! At first I was almsot disappointed. It has been three years since I decided I wanted classic length hair. Three years. But when I finally reached my goal, there was no fireworks, no cake. It just happened while I wasn't looking. Not that I expected fireworks, but still.. Next time I hit a milestone, I'll bake a cake!
I have been neglecting my hair lately, but the neglect wasn't very bening. Because of that I haven't been happy with my hair for some time. But I did a deep treatment and trimmed the ends, so now all is good. I even got my father to take a picture. He tried not to laught when I asked if he could take a picture of me with my back turned.

Stiria!!! Your hair is unreal! Amazing :flower: :thud:
Seeing all these photos makes me realize how short my torso is :( Classic for me is only 41-42.5 inches (I can't really pinpoint it) but I still feel so far!
I measured yesterday, and my longest hair section was just 39.8. Urghhh! I thought I'd made more progress than that...
My growth rate is so unpredictable I don't know when I'll make it + the fact I'm scared my hair will just stop growing any day now! I'm not sure if I have the 'genes' to grow to crazy long lengths. Oy vey :headache:

Stressing and fretting over how fast your hair isn't growing won't help it or you. It just makes you stressed which can negatively impact your growth rate. Eat a balanced diet, keep active, and be kind to your hair. It will get there when it gets there. :meditate:

Hi everyone, I think I belong here. Tailbone length is 35 inches on me, and classic is 39 inches. I'm really short. I was a bit past classic until recently I felt I had to cut off a few inches because it didn't look as healthy as I'd like. Cutting back to 36 inches seems so much shorter to me, even though nobody even noticed when I got it cut. It really made my hemline feel healthier and straightened out my v shape though. I'm only 4'11, so one positive aspect of that is that my hair doesn't have to travel very far to get back to classic and beyond. :)

Hi? I have been away for a bit, but I guess the good news is I can say my hair grew during that time? I am 3 inches from classic, which is really weird to me. I never intended to go beyond waist, hip at most. I just measured and realized that classic is going to be 42 inches on me. This makes me absurdly happy, and I now think I shall try to stop growing there.

I'll probably keep hanging out here for a while, I need to do a couple trims to keep my hemline from being a complete mess, but wow, I guess my end goal is actually in sight... For forever I've been saying my goal length is a solid hemline at finger tip length. I have tons of taper so it wouldn't surprise me if that took like five to ten years, lol.

Hello, all! I thought I'd rejoin this thread, with a starting-off picture...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--fqnZAqd0-w/Vey_JyJl4ZI/AAAAAAAARew/tt1ceDARmkk/s512-Ic42/SAM_1264.JPG
I've been lurking and surfing my old posts, and I'm amused to find that I am just about at the same length as I was back in 2010, at tailbone length. Difference now is that I've grown out all the henna and I'm back to my natural color. Back then, I actually did grow it out solidly for three years, and got to almost classic... but the two-toned red-blond and the weird texture that henna had made the ends of my hair, along with a LOT of taper made me choose to cut back to waist in 2012 (I wanted a braid with a tassel of more than, say, three hairs!). And I tried out some chin-length "long bangs" for a bit as well. Eventually got bored with them this past year and started growing them out again -- they are slightly past shoulder-length and blend into the rest of my hair again. I've also got one DIY "layer" in my hair, about 4-5" shorter than the ends. It was an ill-considered attempt to put some "movement" into my hair at waist length. Sigh. Oh well, live and learn!
The nice thing about starting over with a milestone is that you know that it's possible... unlike in my earlier journey, I'm not worried that I'm going to reach terminal right away. At this point I'm trying to figure out how and when I need to be trimming in order to deal with the taper. Cutting back to waist to "thicken up my hemline" was great... for a few months. And then the taper came right back. I've done a small (half inch) trim in August and will probably do one or two more during the fall / winter, then join "no trimming in 2016" to maximize my growth.
My length varies greatly, depending on the texture my hair chooses to take for the day (you're seeing finger-combed bun curls here), but I'm right at my tailbone measurement of 40.5" so we'll call this my starting point.
I'm looking forward to growing the 6.5" to classic (47" on me) -- the hem of the cardigan I'm wearing in this picture -- with all of you here!

I think I'm getting closer. And those old layers definitely don't help my braid taper, but I think my braid is now reaching BCL. :D

Your hair is beautiful! It didn't feel like it took too long for it to go from tailbone to classic on me, probably because I was so thrilled with TB length that I wasn't obsessively watching it. Tailbone is when my hair started to "feel" long.

I feel the same, like TBL and Classic are quite close to each other on me, but because of my fairy tail ends it will take longer for it to look "classic" I feel :p

I measured yesterday after ignoring it for a few months, and it is 39,5 (classic being 40-42' depending on where I consider it to start) :3 So hopefully I'm there by the end of the year, but it probably won't be till next Summer when it starts to look classic :)

In may 2014 I officially counted myself as TBL lenght and joined this thread ( I think I did lol ). Anyway over a year later and I am clouser, but not right there. My hair is classic when in shower all wet and straight, but then it jumps up.

I am almost embarrassed to upload a length shot, even if I had been able to get someone to take a photo. My ends are so thin that you can easily see my clothes through them so it feels rather like the length doesn't 'count.' I am trying to decide if I want to maintain at classic or keep letting it go. My final goal for quite a long time was classic--and I was worried my terminal length would be before that--but I sometimes get curious how long my hair could get. The trouble then being, is it worth having longer hair than this if it will be really straggly?

It's funny, isn't it? I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've always had a goal of classic length but somehow I never thought I would actually reach it. Usually I chop it all off for some reason before it gets to waist/hip length. Not this time!

I feel all of you. I used to think waist-length seemed long (in truth, it IS long) and now I know I never want to go shorter than that ever again. Then I thought tailbone or hip length would be as far as I wanted to go, and then classic just kind of happened. Then I started thinking, maybe fingertip...? But I decided to maintain at classic until all the bleached ends are gone. After some careful thought and consideration and working with my hair at this length, I've decided not to go any longer. I'm happy with it somewhere between tailbone and classic, and will maintain it here. It started creeping past classic and I just cut it back. Now my focus is on keeping it as healthy and good-looking as possible. I don't want it long if it looks straggly and unhealthy.

It might be upper thigh and sort of depends on the day. Thank you so much! I think microtrimming while continuing to grow sounds like a happy medium. :)

I have two not very good pictures. It feels like I am at tailbone length. My hair tends to jump up! so I have pulled the strands to find out their length, I always measure them in stretched condition.

Another sign that I am at a new milestone is that everything that used to work has stopped working suddeny! The most important one being my easy to go LWP! Do you have any favorite and easy updos particularly working well at this length?

Hmmm, I took these about two weeks ago so let's hope in a month or so I'll be there then, but based on what I understand of tailbone I think the longest strands are there now, if I pull them straight.
I don't know what is the problem, my LWP falls apart in less than 15 minutes, and I do it as I did always. Maybe it is the weight or the ends are in a position which do not tuck nicely, in that case I should be able to use it again after some more growth. I need to find another comfortable and easy updo for now anyway.

Yes, I have a problem with old buns working, as well. :agree: I just started feeling LWB pulling way too much at new length, feeling heavy... I sure hope it will start feeling more comfortable at some point again. I love that bun! :cloud9: I've had to modify and change up some styles recently: moving from braided LWB to braided L-Infinity (here is a great video by WaitingSoLong: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fzn4gNWIVQ) and Spidermom's/double-loop bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCvC_MU0To8) and sometimes braided Nautilus. Maybe they can work for you, too? :)
Also, sectioning buns and doing double buns can help. Maybe something like a disc bun and loop bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz_zP4MWj9A)? :hmm:

I don't get it, you guys, a LWB still works for me. Maybe a question of YMMV. The loop is made smaller, and a lot of the hair is wrapped around it, that's basically my LWB, but it can easily just as well not work by making the loop too loose, for instance.

Oh yes, lapushka! :agree: It still works very well in terms of structure for me - the more length, the more secure wrapping... But I feel it just becomes more "bulge-y" (undistributed, protruded?) and heavy, harder to distribute nicely and it pulls in the same area. I don't know if I'm doing it the best way though... :hmm:

Hmm, I have layered hair going roundy-round in wrapping it, so that might explain why there is less bulk and it still works for me... :hmm:

Oh yes, Aaroo :) , all those buns can be done without any braiding at all, for sure :agree: (and the tutorials are done on unbraided hair). I just do braiding for tighter hold and tangle prevention, but it's absolutely not needed.
There is also this wrapped stick bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJCzbQTbjy0) and pha bun that might work... and for the nautilus, this is the video that worked the best for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34 ... Four pictures here.. First is from June 20th, the second is from July 25th and the third is from October 6th.. Can't say I notice a real change in length (Maybe it's the angle of the first picture?) but my hair is definitely nicer after clarifying and chelating. However the last picture is from February and it's certainly longer compared to that.. My hair seems to be shedding quite a bit lately :?

Hi! I'm new - I only just discovered the forum and am finding my way around here. My hair is tailbone length on its way to classic (only, I really, really need to trim it). It's also coarse and very heavy. As a result, I get a lot of traction on my front hairline. My friend has pretty awful traction alopecia and I want to avoid that if I can. Does anyone else have the problem of coarse, heavy hair and if so, how do you wear it? My hair lives in a plait most days, although it's no trouble to stick it up in a fat bun with a pencil. Either way, it still pulls on my hairline.
The reason I keep my hair long is that my mother made me wear it pixie-length all my childhood. There is nothing quite like the sensation of all-your-own-hair hanging down the length of your back and beyond! Many of my friends (who am I trying to fool?) - ALL of my friends - think I'm in some kind of weird second childhood. I'm not. I just love my long hair and I grow it for ME. I guess I might be among the older members here? I'm sixty years old, but only on the outside. Inside, I'm heaps younger. :D

Have you tried forks? The multiple tines will distribute the weight better, and might help the pulling.

Look at Gossamer's youtube channel where she shows how she sections and twists the front of her hair to distribute the bun weight. It should help! :) Welcome to the community!

Hey all!
I officially called tailbone length today! I realized while I was in the shower with completely wet hair the other day that there were some ends that reached past my tailbone and today with dry stretched hair noticed the same thing. It's just barely there really, but I've been driving myself crazy checking all the time lately, so I called it! I feel like I'm cheating a little, but now I won't wind up trying to measure every time I run my fingers through my hair.
ETA: I'll try to take some celebratory pics later this week!

I would absolutely love to be in this thread by the end of the year but I'm sceptical about whether or not it's realistic. My hair (dry) is about 3,5cm (about 1.5inches) away from TBL. I trim 0.5cm cm every month and my growth rate (let's assume) is average. So according to those assumptions I might make it to TBL in around 3 months. I suppose if I skip my trimming I might have a better chance of making it but then I'd be scared to imagine what the condition of my dyed ends will be like...

Yeah lillielil, the weather turned nasty this week! Winter is coming! I had just switched out my sweater for my apron to do some cooking and wanted a picture before I put my hair up. I was outside for less than 5 minutes getting the picture and endured it. The lighting inside my house is terrible so I usually try to go outside, but that wasn't much better!
Seriously tho, I hope you've been adequately warned about winter here. Some years it's horrible and some years it's just a gray cold mess. Thankfully I'm used to it and don't mind too much, but sometimes people move here thinking 'oh, it can't be that bad' and have a miserable time. I hope you're prepared! :)

Um... when she hired me, my boss said that the winters here are lovely and mild. I know better! I did live in Massachusetts for college - it gets snowy there but not quite as cold. At least I have seen snow before, so it won't be a total shock. And no matter how bad it gets, I think it would be worth it for the beautiful summer! I am used to being trapped inside all summer because it is so hot and humid. I loved spending so much time outdoors this year!

Well, if I braid it to the end, it does taper a lot, but I believe layers have something to do with that too. (My shortest layers are at BCL and my face-framing layers are somewhere around Waist length).
Unfortuantely, I'm not an iii. Most of the times I measure it's 9 cm, sometimes 10, but not more.
(Oh and something Off-topic - I was wondering if it is possible to post gifs on here? If so, how? :D)

Then it's okay to mark ii/iii on your profile, I think! More accurate than just ii, because you're at that border.

Dessi, your hair looks great!
I have to end my braids 15 to 20 cm short as well. That's where my layers start to make it difficult.
Also, I agree with lapushka, you qualify for ii/iii thickness if you are between 9 and 10 cm. That's where I measure in as well.

I ought to have reached classic by now but I took an inch off a couple of weeks ago and plan to keep doing that for the next few months hovering somewhere between tailbone and classic till my ends feel more balanced with the rest of my hair. My hair is curly so these measurements are stretched so it doesnt look spectacular like so many of you posting here. I do have some pictures in my blog.

I hear you, but from personal experience, you will lose length in the end by not seeing to your ends so they are healthy, so I hope you will reach classic soon enough with a healthy feeling hemline. :)
Last year I just kept telling myself that it was the only thing I could do, to keep trimming and maintaining my length to get my ends feeling healthy, so it feels so good that the are and so I finally gained some length these last 3 months.
My lengthpic from August to the left, when I last trimmed and from November to the right.

Swan Maiden, I just love your hair! I wish I had your colour! You're getting so close to classic, too. You'll be there in no time :)
I realised I haven't posted a length pic yet to prove I've hit tailbone! I did trim a bit off yesterday to get rid of some racers and splits, so I hope I'm still at tailbone. Anyway, here it is!

I have to say Saige that your pic had me just stop in my track to just look at the amazing I saw, your hair is just gorgeous, the lovely colour, the shine that unreal hemline of yours, it gives me some serious hair envy in the best possible way. :inlove:
Personally I have had a little scare, havent trimmed since August and a little while ago my ends started to feel so dry and lifeless, that I started to think that my plan of just doing regular S&D wasn't enough.
So for the last washes I have played around and tried a few different deep treatments and last time I was in luck, mixed together one part honey and one part of my conditioner and left it in my lengths for about an hour before my wash and now my ends feels all silky again.
I am so so relieved!

I don't get knots with it. I just warm the mix slightly in the microwave and the honey becomes runnier and makes everything more liquid, it spreads easily :) My hair loves it, too.

You haven't? You have, I trust, heared of SMT, where honey, aloe and conditioner are mixed, right? Anyway, whether you use honey or syrup (which can be used to replace honey), even though they are thick and sticky by themselves, there is something about mixing them with conditioner that takes the stickiness away, even on 1:1 ratio. If your hair likes humectants, do try it; I know i love adding honey or (most often) syruup in my deep treatments. :)

I either warm it like Sarahlabyrinth does or get the a honey that is more like a liquid, very runny, never had a problem with is as it rinses right out in warm water and leaves my hair feeling silky.

I am crying like a baby here!
Just came from shower and when I checked with my hand where does my hair ends..... It was more than an inch under my butt!!! I think I am really finally there!!! I still need to wait and let it dry and make a photo to make sure it ... As fully wavy I might not be there, but I doubt that my hair would shrink over an inch as a straight!!! Can it really be that I am finally there ? After so many times been almost at classic and cutting it off to waist....
I should feel happy, but I just can't stop crying. Is it weird ??? Or is it normal ???

Aww! Congrats! I don't think it's weird. Maybe you're having an emotional day, or because you said you'd get close and then have to keep cutting it back? It's emotional to finally reach a goal, especially one you've been close to a few times and couldn't reach because of reasons.

Maybe there is some Christmas glitter magic fairy sprinkle floating around making all of our hair grow!!
Congratulations StellaKatherine!!
Congratulations brickworld!! (looking forward to picture!)
(and of course congrats to lapushka - I just always think of you because of the Classic before Christmas 2015 thread, which hey, maybe just maybe I may have made it)
Because, I think my hair might just be brushing it too!
It certainly isn't solid classic, but when stretched, it does technically hit that spot that I consider to be classic length!
I had been quite frustrated with my hair (and life in general :p) for the past month or so, and just had it all bunned up for most of the time. It kept tangling, I was shedding loads because yay November sheds so it is definitely thinner from my perspective (cue tumbleweeds of hair at home) and it wasn't really feeling or looking good. But yesterday I washed it nicely and properly with TLC, and today I decided to take a picture and saw that maybe I was nearly there.
And for the first time in a whole month, I think my hair looks really nice (to me anyway! :) )

I think I need another 8-10 inches to be full classic. My hair isn't completely straight in this picture, as the bottom layer at the nape is quite wavy, as is the front middle crown area. I've got some puffiness going on, lol. But my sides always grow faster than the middle, then the middle catches up if I trim the sides back. For many years, my sides have grown 3-5 inches longer than the middle of my hemline. I won't start maintaining some until classic. Looked at my ends to do a S&D after my last 1 inch trim was way back on the Summer Solstice 2015...couldn't find any damage or splits.
My uneven hemline used to drive me nuts. For years I trimmed excessively to maintain a blunt hemline. Then, I realized that this is just the way it grows. And I wear my hair up mostly, so except for solstice or equinox trims as needed, I don't bother it.
Hopefully I can make full classic in the next 18 months (1/2" growth per month baseline and I need 9"). I usually grow faster than 1/2" but I'm giving myself some leeway.

Obviously, my image link didn't download in the post, so I just uploaded it as my avatar. That was taken Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015. I lost over half my hair thickness after telogen effluvium (postpartum shedding in early 2013) after having my son. Its been a long hair road but I am grateful I have regained a lot of hair and thickness. Here is what my hair looked like pre-shed (2nd photo down on this feature page) and the first photo where my hair is sleeker is what it looked like afterward. I was featured in my friend's blog, so that's me. PP shedding is the devil! :)
No, but seriously, MSM greatly helped me recover along with a high protein diet. Here is the link of me before and after my shed:

If you want to show images, maybe uploading them to an image hosting site (I use photobucket ^_^) could help. When you hit 25 posts I think you are able to access your profile fully and also the albums on the LHC and upload them there too (and they are only visible to other people with over 25 posts unless you change theprivacy to friends only).
Your hair looks absolutely stunning from what I can see though, hopefully you will hit classic within a year or two (actually, the 18 month estimate seems just spot on)! ^_^
And thank you for the lovely compliment!

thanks! Oh yeah, I forgot all about using Photo bucket. I had a lot more than 25 posts before, but I guess after the site maintenance, and the fact that I didn't log in for a while, they deleted my profile, so I had to start all over. I will use photobucket from now on, and try to get to 25 posts in the meantime! :)

What do you all think? Classic? Almost? I feel generous if I say I'm at classic right now. My hair is still drying in this pic and I brushed it straight. I measured and I am at 42 inches, I feel solid classic is 43 inches. Sorry if my pictures are huge, I am technologically idiotic.
