My next hair toy I was thinking about getting a Flexi-8. Then I saw these beautiful leather hair slides! http://oldschoolleather.com/HairAcessories.htm

I think they are more of my style. I noticed that I couldn't find a thread about them though. The Flexi-8's seems to be so "popular" with many people. Has anyone tried both of these slides, and could you tell me which one you prefer and why? Also, if you have a picture you would like to share then please do. I haven't seen many of these in people's hair like I have the Flexi-8's.

I have already decided I am definitely getting a leather one so I can try it for myself. I like the look of them better, but I know it is comfort and how well they hold that will make the difference. I love that retro/hippie kind of style but didn't realize I could buy these slides for my hair. I just happened to stumble across them on etsy.com.

Now it is just finding one that is most like me. I really like the Celtic or medieval designs. I think I would prefer leather over the metal right now, but I like looking at the metal ones too. Any other suggestions on web sites?

If you like metal slides then I suggest Bronze Jewelers (http://www.bronzejewelers.com/). Their slides are gorgeous!

I have tried Old School Leather slides, both the 4" medium and the 6" x-large. At the time the large slide was big enough to fit across my whole cinnamon bun. Not a great fit there. The medium was too small for my log roll. The slides are great quality... just not the best size for me. They might do customs though; I never asked.

I used to have two of their slides - both medium. The quality is great for the price. The problem is the size is not big enough for very long hair. I sold them on the swap board. I'm sure they'll be a lot more popular here if they make a "large" size. I mean they have small, medium and X large. something's obviously missing there. :)

Yeah, I wonder why they don't make a large! It does seem like something is missing...

I checked with someone on etsy.com about making me one in a celtic knot pattern out of leather. We will see how it goes. I hope it can be done. I also found this web site with some made out of coconut shell! They seems small though... maybe just the size for half twist. I couldn't find any reviews on LHC for these either so I don't know how well they work. I do like the look of them though.

Is the 4 inches only the pattern or is that including the length of the stick? I am checking into getting the pattern for the celtic knot to be 5 inches long and then the stick would come out a little further on each side.

4" at Old School Leather is the total length of the slide laid flat. I like to go by hole-to-hole length though, since that is what matters when you're wearing it.

Okay, I am excited about getting this! I searched for a celtic knot design on google, and I sent it to the etsy member "2oldhippies." They were so nice about working on this for me and trying something new. They finished it today!! Now I can get one of these barrettes that is more uniquely for me and my style.

I hope it will be big enough. It really should being 5 1/4"L X 2"W. But just incase it isn't I know I can work it into some updo. :)

I noticed it looked like it might be rough. I have a couple other plain dark brown hair sticks that I think would work good with it too - just in case. It was a pair of hair sticks I had purchased in Chinatown with glued ribbon on it with beads, and that part fell off which left the sticks very plain and I never wear them... but I am glad I saved them. :)

That's a gorgeous slide design!

I have both a couple leather slides from this etsy seller (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5250060), and a couple flexi-8's, and I like both. The Flexi's, I have to say, are more comfortable for all day and hold more different styles for me. But I love the way the leather ones look, totally different from the flexi and I'm glad to have both.

I saw her store when I was searching and she was the first one I asked about making a custom one, but she couldn't do it at this time. I still want to try a Flexi-8 so I can feel the difference which one I like better as far as comfort goes and secure hold. That's awesome you are glad to have both!
