My 10 year old went from super long to short and wanted to donate her hair. We couldn't find anyone to donate it to in Australia apart from theatrical places and had heard negative things about locks of love so we decided to donate to Wigs for Kids. She had her hair cut specially, we wrote up a nice bio and sent it along with pictures and a letter and ..... that was that. Not an anything.

Now, I know when you donate you do not donate for a "thanks" but given it was a child who cut off all the hair she had been growing for three years, I did expect them to at least let us know they got it.

She is now growing again for the same reason as she just loved the idea of donated the hair to a child who didn't have any, but, would I donate there again?

I did remember somewhere on the website that they said they sent a card after 6 weeks to say they received it but we never got that. We are in a different country so maybe that's the reason but really... I sent them an email but again never received anything back.

When you donate something as precious as that you just want to know that they got it and that they can use it, right?

I don't know anything about donating hair, or any of the charities set up for that purpose, but in my head sending a message to say 'thank you' or at least that the hair was received and is usable is common courtesy. Of course, they probably get a lot of donations and sending out notes/emails takes time, but still...
For the record I'd like to say that I think donating the hair was a great thing to do, and that your daughter has beautiful hair :)
Although none of this probably helped or answered your question much, when I come to think of it.

Sounds like that company doesn't have it all together maybe. Perhaps it is a matter of bad management. Too bad, good cause.

I thought maybe it was because we are in Australia and perhaps it just all seemed too hard. I had written to them initially to ask them if we could donate and they did contact me then and told me it would be fine.

I'm thinking once the hair arrives it probably gets dealt with and becomes a colour/texture type right away. Perhaps there is noone logging where it's come from.
