I'm hoping some of you ladies have one and will show me photos of styles you have done with it. I used it for a bun today and it came out looking like a geisha girl style... I loved it. It's really comfortable and is holding great. :)

Not a lady, but I've used one at one point. For whatever reason it didn't agree with me. Whenever that happens I instinctively want to blame the product, but I'm sure it's user error. Haha. It's good to hear that it is working so well for you!

It looks like your style is sitting comfortably! Very nice!

Love that look. I used to have one and I liked it, but the longer my hair got it was harder for me to use:)

It worked better for me when my hair was shorter before BSL but I lost it or something so I don't know about it for longer styles.

What kind of hair accessory is it?

My apologies :) I knew after I posted I should have said "and gentlemen". I actually realized if I lean over and do it with my head hanging down it is not as hard to put in Maybe that will work for you too. :D

What kind of hair accessory is it?

It's like two slap bracelets put together in a cloth tube. You wind up you hair in it.
Here is a photo of one...

I have one. Can't get it to work at all. It tangles in my hair and comes out with the messiest uncomfortable bun ever, if I can get it to stay in at all.
I always thought it was the product combined with my length, but since you have the same length, maybe I was just doing it wrong?

I love my hairagami sticks! They don't always agree with me, but when they do, magic happens. Here are several photos, some sloppy, some nice...

I haven't used my Hairagami in ages, but I like the look. It's definitely harder to use on longer hair, but I use an elastic band first, and then roll it up, and it's a bit easier. And styles like the beautiful ones shadowclaw has posted work better for me than the simple regular buns, which tend to get really huge. A nice bonus is that I get awesome curls!
Making mental note to play with the Hairagami soon, and take pics!

Thanks Sneakybea and Aditi! I actually can't do a regular bun with the hairigami sticks... it just doesn't work. There's too much hair and everything just kind of goes everywhere. I can only put half of my hair on one stick, as is evident by my pictures.

Oh I remember how hot it was back when I was a kid, and I always envied all the girls for having one. :o I have a similar plastic one that can be closed from both ends for a bun, but it never agrees with my hair, and the few times that I tried my hair lost to the evil thingie, I mean, I literally lost couple of hairs to that darn thing! :nono:

Well, I'm no help because I just got mine in the mail today and I'm a hairagami failiure. The silly thing keeps popping closed before I'm ready and it takes me a few minutes to untangle it. I think maybe my BSL hair is too long (wow.. something my hair is too long for.. cool!) because I can't reach enough. I'll try again later, but I'm too afraid of losing more hair to it.

I'm giong to try it on my 7 year old (which is really who it was suppose to be for, I was just hoping it would work for me too) this evening.

The one thing I did notice is that I had to have it rolled against my head pretty snug or the bun would just sort of dangle once it rolled up. I'm thinking this might be better for half-ups for me.

Wish it had been my idea though... someone is making a killing on these! We get snap bracelets all the time from places like chuck e cheese and I can sew a tube over two of them in like five minutes. If I get this one to work, I'll probably make another in brown so it hides better.

Shadowclaw: Thanks so much for the pics post. I tried the pony bun and really liked it. But since I only have one hairagami the double bun will have to wait.

Sneakybea: I agree... the more hair, the harder to use :D I also put mine up in an elastic band first and you're right.. I think it really does help.

Ambychelle: Good luck... Mine does the same thing. It really takes practice and I think a little luck. Mine seems to want to eat my hair when it snaps before I'm ready. But as Shadowclaw said when it works it's awesome :)

Well, my 7 year old wasn't impressed. I had a hard time getting it to roll the proper number of times that it would snap closed the right direction. When I did, it was really cute but she said it was pulling hairs near her nape. I never did get a full bun without any pain for her.

But the half-up bun worked well and she said it was comfortable enough. I tried a pony-bun, but she doesn't have enough hair left over for the pony after the half-up bun is made *lol*. What did work rather well is to do the half-up bun, pull the rest of the hair through the outer end of the hairagami along the bottom of the bun to sort of secure it there, braid it, and wrap the braid around the outside and use a bobby pin to secure it under the bun. I think that's what we'll be doing for dance class.

It is similar to the new "hot buns" hair-bun-maker that's all over the infomercials now? I was considering getting one for DD - if it works it would make her ballet bun much easier to achieve before heading out to ballet class.

I used to love my hairagamis when I didn't know about other hairtoys (like sticks, forks, flexis and ficarres) but I found that they had a tendency of pulling my hair and making my scalp tender.

I loved making the simple bun (sock bun), sushi bun (coil/cinnabun), a ponytail and the butterfly half-up shown in the instructions.

ETA: The Hairagami youtube channel has some instructional videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/HAIRAGAMI/videos
Instructions for the butterfly twist: http://shorthairstyle.tripod.com/butterflytwist.htm

The hot buns thing looks like it might be awesome for sleeping in. I like my hair up and out of my way and do a sock bun a lot.
