To be fair, the design is me, but most of the "dirty work" was done by BF. I'm not allowed near the saw at all, but I did the waxing and polishing. We are thinking about start a litte hair toy buisness.

WOW!!!! Very cool!!!

Thank you!

Very pretty indeed!! :D

I have two of these! :D

Wow that is really beautiful. People would pay 30+ for that. I'm trying to resist the temptation, but I really want one.

Wow! You did a fantastic job, Hypnotica! :flowers: I love the color. Purplewood is wonderful to work with and it looks like you finished it at a good time. I know that after this wood is cut, if it's not finished fairly quickly and exposed to air for too long, it loses its beautiful purple hue.

Hair toy makers can never be too many, can they?

Hopefully that will happen, but for the moment there is too much other stuff that needs to be done. Maybe we can do something like that this summer.

My BF got :agape: when he realized exactly how much we spend on these things!

I think it's getting eaten by my own haircolour...

I thought it was UV light that gets the purplewood brownish?

From what I understand, purpleheart will oxidize to brown. I have read on woodworking forums that exposure to sunlight will actually turn the wood into a brilliant purple. Then again, take a look a this:

Exotic Wood - Purpleheart (http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/purpleheart.htm)

This guy experimented with several pieces of purpleheart and found that exposure to both sun AND air changed the wood into a beautiful purple. I'm going to have to try this myself.

Very pretty!
Did you use any varnish at the end, or do you just oil the wood?
And where did you get that wood from?
