Theres probably millions who can do this but for those who want to learn how; here it is in picures!
http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/jojoeg_2009/CIMG3879.jpg what I started off with (it is waist when wet...just about!
first I make a low pony tail, no slides or elastics needed
http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/jojoeg_2009/CIMG3880.jpg
then I gently twist the pony
http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/jojoeg_2009/CIMG3881.jpg
then I wrap my hair round my finger (note chewed nails now a thing of the past!!)
http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/jojoeg_2009/CIMG3882.jpg
sorry pictures are HUGE dont know how to get them smaller and the knot looks pretty poor in picture better when i take more time with it!!
then I gently thread the tail through the centre, like a knot
http://i661.photobucket.com/albums/uu331/jojoeg_2009/CIMG3883.jpg
then with any hair left over I tuck under and there you have it a knot bun! I can sleep in this and use it during the day, the one in the picture is a little loose as I was demonstrating but there you go!

What do you all think?

I really like it. I'm going to put it in my favorites to save until my hair is long enough to do this. BTW, your hair is beautiful; healthy and shiny. :)

Looks good! I do something similar - instead of threading the whole tail through, I just pull a loop of the tail through, if that makes sense, and tighten the ring around it. It holds really well that way!

Let me know how it goes! And yes, it does save a fortune in hair toys. ;) I don't have to buy a jillion of them so that I have one every time my hair needs picked up, this'll do in a pinch with no toy in sight!

Cool! I tried it and it worked! It feels very secure!
(I'll still spend a fortune on hair toys, though.)
I kept trying to add a picture to the thread, but Flickr won't let me. :( :( Anyway, there's one in my album of my new knot bun.

Hey, what a progress ! (I mean, the length :))
Quite an interesting style; I'm wondering, how do you undo it ? Don't you get tangles and knots ?

I'm sooooo gonna try the knot bun JoJo! Thank you for posting this! I can't tell you how many times I walk out of the house without a stick! :o I hope my hair is long enough! Looking from your pics, I'm about the same length and HOPING to hit waist by Christmas too! I'll race ya! :D

Sock bun or knot bun?
No hair toys or pins used in the making of this photo!!! :D

no just reverse the instructions, no tangles which is remarkable seeing that my hair tangles as soon as I look at it!! and thanks for the complement x

Awesome pics!
I am also a fan of the knot bun trick. On me, it doesn't hold for long, but it'll get my hair off my neck in a pinch.

Yay! :D
My friend showed me this one morning at school. She was so excited! I was a little sceptical, but I tried it, and it really is a great hair style. There are so many different ways you can do it, too - add in some hair sticks, or a giant claw grip (how she and I most often wear it) or an elastic or what ever else, to slightly change it each time. Or you could leave the tail out, for a teeny ponytail. xD

Serious envy here. I think type 1a doesn't do this very well. At least mine won't stay but a minute, just slips right out.
Gives me an excuse for hairtoys though. :)

Why is it that I am a bit past waist yet my hair is too short for this :( I get a little stub that sticks out of the know, and it all falls apart as soon as I move. Oh well, I was really looking forward to this style- it looks very nice, so I can't wait to try when my hair is longer! :)

That is such a beautiful chignon Jojo, and you did it so easily and quickly which I really love. I've done my chignons in a similar way, except I really do need either a ponytail elastic, at least two hairpins or a chopstick in order to hold my thick hair.

I just tried it but it wouldn't stay up for more than maybe ten minutes. Maybe with some hairtoys (any excuse for hairtoys is a good one)it would stay up? I liked the look though, very cute.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJRUFoahROo I did this video-- one of the styles is the knot I do which can be used similarly to this.. the way of forming the knot is the tricky part that I love! I forget where I learned it, someone on LHC. The second style is it.
