Good morning, you wonderful women and magnificent men. The following photos are of my hair. They were taken at Pennsic 39, in the beginning of August this year.
The braid you are about to see is an eleven-strand braid. It took about an hour for the artist (www.circleworks.org) to complete and she reports that mine was the first eleven-strand she had done in nearly five years. Why? I was the first person to come along who had enough hair to do it with.
Ready? Here goes.

The top of the braid.

Most of the braid.

And then all of the braid.

The end of the braid tapers off to a seven- then a five- then a three-strand braid. We ran out of hair. Woops.

This magnificent braid stayed in for three days. It was secured with a mixture of water and aloe vera gel. Being big, wide, and flat, it felt like I had a beavertail on the back of my head!
I got compliments on it every time I turned my head and I loved it.:cheese:

You can't imagine how I love these multiple strand braids. They are just so beautyfull, and yes, so similar to beaver tails...

Your looks so pretty and well made. I wish there was a ren faire near my home in where I could find someone to braid my hair so beautyfully. It's incredible it stayed for so long, you must have been very crefull...

Your hair is amazing, and it must have felt to cool to be the first in 5 years based on how long your hair is :flower:

That braid is awesome. Thank's for your show off ;)

It's incredible! I love the way your stars flank it. Did you do it for a special occasion?

It was done because I was looking at the vendor's brass barrettes and she came over and hauled me into her booth. She demanded I let her play and braid, and I'm so glad I did!

Wow, what a MAGNIFICENT braid!

I wish I could make something like this, but I'll never have enough hair for such a glorious braid.

It does help that I have some seriously thick hair. It's only at thigh-length but there's an absolute ton of it.

Hi, DavidN! Thank you, so much. I did not do it on my own; I can do a five-strand but that's the extent of it! It was done by the lovely lady whose booth I was in, and it took her the better part of an hour.

Angela_Rose,

I have never seen a braid like that before! I did not know that such awesome hairstyles existed in this world ;)! Every crossover plaited section is perfect! Now that, is what I call a Mohawk braid! I'd love to try and mow on the chariot, while wearing one :D LOL! The weeds and hedges would instantly fall over dead at my command! *Dr. Evil gesture*

BTW: Wow @ the thickness and smooth shiny texture of your hair! The length is incredible!!!

Is she going to put your picture on her site?
I saw that there wasn't an 11 strand on her page and like you said, your was the first so it would be inspiring for someone to see how it looks.

Absolutely stunning. Does the Aloe Vera work as a normal hair gel? I thought I was good being able to plait five strands - lol

It would be great if you could put a tutorial on how to do it...
amazing work. masterpiece.

I'd love to, but I didn't do it and I don't know how, sadly!

Wow, that looks amazing!!! The braid looks so nice and neat and your hair looks so shiny!
Thank you! I have pretty shiny hair anyway, but the aloe helps with that.

I wish she would! She and I have been in correspondence since Pennsic, but I know she's been pretty busy with other shows. I'll poke her again, but the thing is, she can't do an 11-strand on most heads so I almost wonder if she doesn't want to advertise it.

Absolutely stunning. Does the Aloe Vera work as a normal hair gel?

Thank you, and yes, aloe does work as a normal hair gel. I love it, because it has decent hold to it and it doesn't do any damage, since it doesn't have any alcohols or 'cones or any crap in it.
