I've seen threads for movie and book idols, but none for TV stars. Who's hair on TV do you admire? My TV Hair Idols (TVHI) are:

Ariel (Sofia Vassilieva) on Medium - she has the most beautiful teen hairstyles - the show's stylist does a great job

Calleigh (Emily Procter) on CSI: Miami - hate the show, love her hair

Chuck (Anna Friel) on Pushing Daisies - I just wish it would be a bit longer, but I love the color

And whose hair do you think is awful on TV?

Lily (Kathryn Morris) on Cold Case

Abby Lockhart (Maura Tierney) on ER

As a Greys Anatomy fan, I love Forbes Montgomery and Calliope Torres (dont know their real names), both have very shiny and beautiful hair.

Most awful, I dont know.

Holly Marie Combs "Piper" from Charmed, it always looked thick, glossy and healthy.
Portia de Rossi "Nell" from Ally Mcbeal, when she'd take it out of that updo wow! One of my major inspirations to start growing!

Heidihug -I totally agree with you about Lily on Cold Case. Normally I don't notice "bad" hair but hers just bugs me!

I like Kristin Kreuk's from Smallville, always long, shiny, and gorgeous.

Ooo, yes, Piper's hair was gorgeous on Charmed. I always envied its thickness and shine.

Does Portia de Rossi still have such long hair? I haven't seen her for a couple of years, since her show on Fox was cancelled.

And Kristin Kreuk's hair is so pretty, too. I have to believe she has naturally straight hair - a true inspiration for me.

I like Amy Acker (Fred)'s hair in Angel, and Jane Goldman's hair from Jane Goldman Investigates. She also wrote the screenplay for Stardust. My dream is to have hair like hers!

Maybe Billy Piper? (Doctor Who)

I'm sure there must be someone worse but I can't think of any right now.

All the women in Rome, the t.v. show. Gorgeous hair - long flowing curls, lots of nifty half-ups...and all women of all ages have long locks. It's great :)

They have been doing reruns of Friends in Australia and I always look to see how they have done Phoebe's hair - she has worn hairsticks a few times, and even though her hair looks ironed a lot of the time, they always put interesting toys in it or do it in clever ways. I never noticed it the first time!
Actually, I suspect that whoever did the hair for that show was into hairtoys, as the actresses tend to have their hair in clever styles whenever it is up. :)

Worst:
Maybe Billy Piper? (Doctor Who)

Yes, we just watched an epi of Dr Who last night, and - Yikes! - Billy's hair always looks flowzy and dry and piece-y.

I agree, the Friends' hairstylist had to be a toy freak, they always had something fun going on with Phoebes.

Love that pic of Charlene Tilton, she was gorgeous.

I've never seen Rome - anyone have any pics to share? I love the classical styles from the statues and mosaics of the time.

Thanks, nayver. Those are beautiful pics. I can see where the hair envy would come in when watching that show. I would wager that most of those really long hairstyles involve extensions.

Every couple of years I will take a morning and wrap my hair in long spiral perm rods so that it looks something like that. For an hour or two, anyway! If only I didn't have to work, I could have really cool hairstyles all the time .

I think Billie Piper's hair is actually quite apt for the role in Doctor Who, as in "19-year old from a run-down east London estate?" ;) Jokin' of course... ;)
In the "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" her hair is lots better btw: http://billiepiper.albumpost.com/album21/aab

Awww, I love Billie Piper! She's crazy beautiful IMHO, and she pulls off the strong and sexy characters so well -- which girls totally need more of these days. That being said... yeah, you're right about her hair always looking fried and damaged to bits. This was the best pic I could find...

http://images.contactmusic.com/dn/billie+piper+inthenews_855_18334437_0_0_7005627_30 0.jpg

Speaking of strong and sexy characters, Holly Marie Combs does have gorgeous hair! But my #1 hair idols have to be Sarah Michelle Gellar from about the 5th season of Buffy when she grew her hair long and Morena Baccarin, Inara from Firefly. Love the texture and the shine on both! And I just drool over Morena's curls (too bad she cut them).

I always loved Capt Janeway's hair on ST: Voyager:D. I thought it was a shame they decided she needed to cut it in later seasons:confused:. And I'm still trying to figure out some of her updos.
Actually Star Trek in general has always seemed to feature pretty hair - and even when you may not see it on a main character, it always shows up on somebody in the background. Some of the styles(especially in the original) were pretty, but far too complicated for me to ever attempt. Oh and Seven of Nine had that french twist that seemed to be impervious to nearly everything:P(at least, I think it was a french twist, Im awful with style names). The klingons had some great hair at times too(seems to have been featured most on DS9). I was jealous of Worf's braid for years.... mine has since surpassed his in length, but I rather doubt it'll ever be that thick(I'm fairly certain Michael Dorn had a wig for the role). Also, klingons highly valued their hair - long hair (or a beard for that matter) was considered a sign of courage; it's a disadvantage in battle, afterall. Maybe that's why they rarely wore updos - it didn't seem as couragous (sp?) to them :silly: (no, I'm not bad mouthing updos - just from a klingon perspective, having long hair that was loose would give your opponent a bigger advantage)

Doctor Quinn had some cool hair - so did Sully, on the same show. Come to think of it, so did a great many of the Native American side characters.

I really liked Carla's hair on Scrubs - not very long by LHC standards(long for tv though, lol) but it nearly always looked nice. The straight hair she had in later episodes just didn't seem to suit her the same though.

I;m having trouble thinking of other tv specific references, but I'm sure I'll remember more later.

You have made my inner (ha!) trekkie very happy. lol I also loved Janeway's hair. Sadly, the bun and longer 'dos were wigs. Kate Mulgrew had/has short, fine hair and they chose to thicken it up and put it in a bun after shooting the first episode... Meaning that they had to shoot several scenes over again.

And worf's braid is drool-worthy.

I'm also a fan of Inara's hair from Firefly. And Caleigh (sp?) from CSI: Miami.

Hi! The last time I got my bangs cut, I had a picture of Charlotte Gainsbourg as the example for my stylist, and I remarked at the time that her hair was much longer than mine, but I liked the style. I dug out the pic again to see how I was doing, and my hair is about the same length as hers. Yay! If I knew how to post a picture, I would post it! :cheese:

Other than the fact that I've never had really long hair, and that I want those long locks- I found my hair idol a few weeks ago. Mine used to be a model [but idols can be fictional, real, famous, whatever]

Hmmm... it's been a long, long time since I had a hair idol and when I did it was a whole other long-haired look that was going on when I was looking to others for inspiration.... now I am satisfied with what i can grow out of my own head.

But I will say that when I was inspired it was by Stevie Nicks, Julia Roberts and even Elaine Benis (from Seinfeld). Go ahead and laugh... it's ok.

I don't know if I ever had a hair idol, but I will say I watched the Charlies Angels TV show when I was little and was impressed with Jacklyn Smith's hair. I wanted to be as beautiful as her. Funny thing though, I don't think her hair was ever really long, just APL at the most. Also, I became fascinated for a time with the old Charles Manson cases (just call me weird) and discovered how beautiful Sharon Tate was (she had longish hair). What a shame her life was cut so short. http://www.sharontate.net/images2/Copyofpublicywhitemini.jpg

But in the end, I guess I just fell for all the girly fairy tales - Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, etc, because of course, handsome princes always fall for the girl with the long, flowing hair. ;) According to Disney.

What is your long hair inspiration? I was recently googling "classic length" hair and found this:

I love making people smile. I intend to learn the violin and play like the violinist Mairead from Celtic woman. I always wanted long hair. As an SCA person its also more typical for ladies to have long hair.

Having a witchlock which is really stunning also is inspiration - it shows up much better!

Yes! mostly its how she MOVES and plays that I want to emulate. Though she has lovely hair. I admit I do get distracted as she plays while she flips her head to get it off the instrument on occasion though. I guess she now has it down to a nondistractional reflex.

Wow, she has got gorgeous hair!

My long hair inspirations are actually two of my best friends. The one has got the most beatiful dark (almost black) curly hair. It was around BSL when I met her, and she grew it out and maintained it at waist for a couple years before making the big chop to APL about a year and a half ago. The other I am trying to talk into joining here at LHC - she is currently at classic and on her way to finding her terminal length.

LHC is my other inspiration - I always loved long hair, just needed the encouragement to keep on growing once it got to an awkward stage. Thanks to everyone here at LHC!!!

My mother's hair when we(me and her) were just kids... Beautiful. Dark. Silky. Soft. Thick. Lovely. That fell to her thighs. No matter what she did with it she always looked like the karate kid's girlfriend in the 2nd(??) one where they go to Japan. She always accidently looked almost geisha-like to me. Wow your hair today and in the picture is beautiful! My mother would never let me grow my hair longer as a child. I was so used to the short hair, that I never really thought of growing it until the last couple of years. You know, something you always wanted to do, but just never did it? Her hair was classic length for much of her life. It was very fine and she always had a bit of a turd bun. Easy for me to relate to. Plus, she chem dyed.

One of my long-haired inspirations is a young woman who works at our bank. She almost always has her medium blonde hair in some kind of updo, but you can tell it must be long. Once I went in and she was wearing it down...she looked like a princess! It was about TB length. Yesterday when I went there she had an updo, and a few inches back from her hairline it was braided SIDEWAYS. Pretty! She said it wasn't hard to do, but she'd had years of practice.

When she got married with a turd bun I always thought it was so unattractive. There's a You Tube video someone made with a pic of her from the back sitting in a chair and her hair is really long.

Wow your hair today and in the picture is beautiful! My mother would never let me grow my hair longer as a child. I was so used to the short hair, that I never really thought of growing it until the last couple of years. You know, something you always wanted to do, but just never did it? Well, I am going to try to do it older than 50!

Karen - My Mom was the same. We were never allowed to have long hair. Always had pixies. Maybe because there were 3 girls 11 months apart. She probably didn't want to deal with the washing combing on three heads of hair. I'm over 50 too. I've had it pretty long several times. Now I'm in for the long haul.

I don't really have an inspiration - maybe I need one. No offense to the guys in here, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a guy with long hair that's made me think I should do that. Since I started growing my hair out, I've had so many people tell me how it suits me and how good it looks, so I've kept with it. I don't think it looks bad right now, but I'm a little insecure about it.
I hang around this place to get info that will hopefully keep it looking good, but hopefully it will give me a little more confidence too.

My hair inspiration is the Bollywood movies Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas. Aishwarya Rai stars in both of them, and in both of them everyone has these beautiful long, thick braids and fancy updos.... I know they're probably fake hair, but I still think they look beautiful.

Wow...I never really thought of what my inspiration is......I did have some weird revelation though once. When it comes to the 4 elements : Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.......I realized that one of the only things that can totally destroy human hair was the one element that we has people do not willingly expose ourselves to. That being fire....So......if ya have it, then grow it!!!!....:p......

I wouldn't really say that I have any one inspirational person or photo. I just want a change from my 'only apl at the longest, mousy blonde hair' that I've had for so long. I'm finding that the longer my hair gets, the more I like it, so I guess in a way, my own hair is my inspiration.

My first inspiration was my mum, who had waist length hair when I was younger, now its shoulder length, but manageable for her.

Then I took my inspiration from Arwen in Lord of the Rings and Padme from Star Wars, and now being married to my lovely Welsh hubby, who loves my long hair; I'm looking for Celtic and Medieval hairstyles and people to aspire to :)

There is an acquaintance of mine who pushed me into wanting my hair longer than waist. I got that far not thinking about it, just being lazy about getting it cut... I don't mean from ONE movie or tv show. I mean one PERSON that you like their hair no matter the length or style? I know that for me...it is definitely Natalie Portman. That woman is so beautiful and her hair looked great at Pixie and at BSL and every length in between. Does anyone else have a celebrity hair inspiration? (again, not movie hair, but their real hair.) :)

Kate Winslet. I have absolutely loved her hair in every manner I've ever seen it (my favorite was in Titanic. Bouncy red curls!! Gawd, I had hair envy). This is going to sound a bit strange but, Audrey Hepburn. I realize most of her signature hairstyles are close to pixies and the rest are French twists, updos and the like, however, I just saw a few pictures of her with long hair and down. *Gasp* Stunning.

The funny thing is, for me. nothing specific. I came here after I had cut my very long hair off and wasn't going to start growing again .... then I saw spidermom's hair and thought yup... that's what I want. (sorry it's so cheesy).

LHCers! CinnamonHair and LadyLongLocks. I am also a big fan of Sailor Moon;) It's interesting that not every long hair picture I see makes me feel inspired. If it is a shampoo commercial and I see it is a wig or photoshoot with obviously photoshopped hair I don't care. Also, no matter how long the hair is, if it is damaged I don't like it too. It seems like I am fastidious:D Hair must be not only long but also healthy to inspire me;)
Manga and anime hair of course doesn't count. Have anyone ever seen a damaged hair in anime? :D

Hey guys, just realized I probably should not be 'hot linking' these photos. Just realized another thread talking about that. I'm sorry, I didn't realize. I know better now! I'll just post links from now on.. but believe me.. I have many more inspirations to share : ) Love this thread:)

ETA2: You know.. going to our county fair this summer.. it reminded me of how much I really admire horses' hair. It may be funny, but they actually inspire me too! So cool to see all the beautiful interesting mane and tail braids the equestrians do on their horses

Ruslana Korshunova was so gorgeous & i loved her hair so much!
I adore Christina Aguilera's hair in late 2002, early 2003 (like in my avatar) when she had super long blonde hair sometimes with black streaks. Especially in the videos for Dirrty & Beautiful. I would absolutley love to have hair like that. Or when she dyed it black in 2003. It was so long & such a gorgeous black. :crush:

Amanda Seyfried. Especially in Mamma Mia. Long, thick, curly. The exact opposite of mine! lol.

(sorry, couldn't find a pic without a gigantic url)

And, I have a new one! Danielle Chuchran from the movie You're So Cupid. Kind of a silly movie, but her hair was great!!

They probably both had extensions, but a girl can dream, no?

yes. Amanda Seyfreid too.
I just watched 3 movies of hers, all I could think of was her hair the whole time lol.

Also Francis Conroy from Six feet Under. Beautiful hair for an older lady.

I always loved Alex Kingston's (ER, Moll Flanders) ringlets and wished I could wake up one morning and have hair like hers.

But lately, watching Tonya Harding on Smoking Gun has inspired me to let my hair grow again - and than I can keep my little bangs! :D

LHCer nicolezoie. Her hair type is very close to mine - thick, fine-ish, and wavy is a combination made for tangles - and it gives me a lot of hope that she's managed to reach such a thud-worthy length.

Well I know this doesn't really count but if figured I'd put my 2 cents in anyways. I really want my hair to be styled like namine from KH2. Lol not even a real person. Her bangs especially - I tried cutting it myself the other day but of course it didn't work :(
As for a real person, I like Emily brownings hair.. So healthy looking and long!

I like Angelina Jolie's hair as well as Amanda Seyfried's.

I don't know if anyone else has heard of her, but I recently stumbled upon an actress named Natasha Melnick. She has/had (I think she cut it) beautiful long, straight hair.

You can see a picture of her...

Marina Sirtis is my hair idol. Most people knew/know her as Deanna Troi from Star Trek, in case the name didn't ring a bell.

I don't really have a celebrity hair inspiration, but a couple of nights ago I dreamt that I was cutting my hair so that it would be 1 cm long all over, and I kept thinking about Natalie Portman. I guess I was hoping it would look as good on me as it did on her. :p

I woke up mid-cut, and for some reason I was immediately disappointed to find it had only been a dream. It passed pretty quickly, though.

Nah, I don't think I like any celebrity hair at all. It's always so hard to tell if it's real or just extensions or a wig. I find most celebrities quite fake

But I do like fictional hair :p I wish I had as long of a braid as those Na'vi people from the movie Avatar for example.

While I'm not a huge fan of her acting or her in general, I would kill for Megan Fox's hair. It's just so beautiful and dark and sexy.

Megan Fox's hair is my ultimate goal (not keen on her or her acting though) I also lurve Penelope Cruz's hair too
I tried Leigh Lezark's asymmetrical style but my hair is so scrappy it just looks like a really bad crooked hair cut. I am trying the monistat on one side to even it up without cutting it again. Fingers crossed

Though she does look amazing in dark hair and it looks very natural.

Angelina Jolie. Especially in Tomb Raider, waist length, braided. I'm less fond of the lighter, brassy colour she's had than i am of her natural, darker colour.

Carrie Fischer as Princess Leia (although I think that was mostly a wig, yeah?)

She has since cut her hair very short, about chin length...but it's growing back. I think it's around APL right now.
