Polished bone is extremely difficult to take good pictures of without washing it out. Pleast note that the fork is not white. Itīs bone-coloured / off-white and the colour will become more prominent with time, when oiling it or when useing it in oiled hair.
Bone has open pores and getīs stained very easily. I donīt recommend to wear it in freshly coloured hair.
Though, if you prefer a more antique look it is possible to season the bone and make it appear like ancient jewelry or fossilized bone with soaking it in strong black tea for some minutes.
It is no problem to use it in wet hair or rainy weather. Donīt attack it with soap though  a damp washcloth will clean it just fine.
Donīt store in overly humid places or plastic boxes.

Thanks for looking :)

Thank you twolunarspring and karli :)
I know the price is on the upper end of the scale. Though elk-bone is a material which is very hard to come by, also itīs extremely time consuming and difficult to prepare the bone for carveing and very few pieces of the bones are actually suitable to make forks from. Not to speak of the carving and sanding itself. Itīs not compareable to sending wood through a bandsaw or attaching beads to a stick-blank, hence the price difference to most other hair-toys.

How strong is it? Asking because I have broken some bone jewelry 6mm thick before, though I think that was buffalo bone.

The tines are 5-6mm thick and made of a quite solid part of the bone. I have some other forks with much longer 4mm tines and did not break a single one so far *knock on wood*. But I tend to be really careful to not damage/overstretch my hair when putting it up and therefore avoide it like the plaque to put too much pressure on it with a fork/stick.
Problem with bone is indeed that itīs not very flexible. In general it is very strong and durable but if it getīs under too much pressure it will not bend much before it snaps. :/ If you have bone-breaker-hair and snap toys frequently it may be not for you... though I would say itīs a small sturdy fork in general and it held up my inside out bun quite fine until I reached thumb-length.

How beautiful! Sadly, I can not afford it even though I do think all of your hard work is worth the money. I can get hold of elk bone, but not make such beautiful things from it. It is much easier to give the bone to my dog. :p

Luckily for me it's not the starflower stick you once had in your siggypic. :crush:

I also wanted to say how beautiful this fork is. I hope that you find someone deserving of this piece of wearable art.
