I bought some curlformers a while back and really like them but I dont always want such a tight uniform curl...what Im looking for is more of a soft wave. I cant do bun or braid waves my hair is to short and layered and it just looks like a frizzy mess. I searched here and youtube and couldnt come up with anything can someone here help or point me in the right direction of a good tutorial....my hair is just past my shoulders although some layers are as short as chin length.
Thanks in Advance

update on page 2....basically IT FAILED I deleted the album I started...will try again when (IF...haha...i know i know when) hair gets longer

I'll be watching for replies as well... We're still at about the same length, including the short bits around the face.

Mine aren't from layers, though... My front-most hair has just crumbled away from all the pre-LHC abuse. :(

I tried some wet-setting last week with magnetic rollers and I love the result!! I was lazy though and let the rollers sit in my hair for 1.5-2 hrs instead of the recommended soppy wet to totally dry 8 hrs! I think my hair wasn't soppy wet when I put the rollers in and I wasn't too particular about it being completely dry before I took the rollers off. But my hair has nice soft curls (I have heavily layered bsl wavy hair) and nice volume. I would give rollers a shot. Btw, I air-dried but I think all the others use canopy driers or something. Here is the thread for more info:

Have you seen ilovegerardo's pin curl tutorial?

She makes sculpted, standing pin curls in this one.

I followed this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoZ2QGq0n4A&feature=fvst) paper bag/rag curl tutorial for my sisters hair, and it worked reasonable well. :)

One way to get a looser curl/wave is to put the curl-former close to the scalp and then wrap the strand of hair around it instead of rolling up from the ends. Also use a bigger strand of hair.

Pincurls are exactly like using rollers... I often refer to then as 'invisible rollers'. Just take a clean section of damp hair, lift it straight up from the head, smooth it with a fine toothed comb, then start rolling it under as though you had a roller there and pin it in place with one of these:

The advantage over rollers is that you are not limited by the size and shape of the roller, plus you don't have to go buy a bunch of them. The trick is to keep the hair smooth and use plenty of tension.

If I were going to use curlformers, as a layered haired girl, I'd probably use them on all the lower areas of my hair, then pin curl the crown using horizontal sections. Vertical sections will give you more of a ringlet, but sometimes if you use them on the top of the head, it can look a little TOO Shirley Temple.

And don't be afraid to finger everything into place after you've taken them out.

That is a really good tutorial, but shorter haired gals should note they'll have to get the pin purls closer to the scalp or most of the length will be quite straight.
