I am at one of those in between hair lengths.. and you start fiddling and making up stuff. Here is the twister flip bun:
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/4084/twisterflipbun.th.jpg (http://img151.imageshack.us/i/twisterflipbun.jpg/)

I can secure this one with a small flexi-8, good to see that one used again :)

And of course a movie with how it's done!

And an extra treat.. you can hear my cat calling out for me almost at the end of the movie

Oh.. a small variation.. instead of using that coil as a slide you stick your stick THROUGH the sides of the coil:

*chuckles* It turns out different each time, but this one I LOVE:

Oooh, so cool. I love how you secure it at the bottom but the top all stays up anyway. I'll add this one to my list of buns to try in about 2-3 years when I have enough hair :) Yours is so shiny & nice.

I spent the last half hour trying to do this.
Did 3 attempts, these are the last 2 . (with amish pins and with flexi-8 XXL)
I like the last one best :-)

Second try
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2224/try3.th.jpg (http://img171.imageshack.us/i/try3.jpg/) http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7627/try3flexi.th.jpg (http://img232.imageshack.us/i/try3flexi.jpg/)

Third try
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1907/try4m.th.jpg (http://img14.imageshack.us/i/try4m.jpg/) http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/8898/try4flexi1.th.jpg (http://img242.imageshack.us/i/try4flexi1.jpg/) http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6871/try4flexi2.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/i/try4flexi2.jpg/)

First I used a little length and twisted the rest around it, didn't work.
The other 2 tries I used more length and twisted the rest around it
And the last one is done tighter in twisting.

Thanks for another new bun Eadwine!!

Thanks, that looks really interesting and different! And your hair has gotten so long and pretty!

Unfortunately I can't do it, althouf I'm at tailbone, I'll need extra length because of my thickness

Ooh, I was able to do this even with thick hair. It feels a little lopsided, but is holding securely.

I think I'm going to really like this one too!!

Thanks!

Maybe you can pull it off with twisting a little less at the start, or maybe twisting less after you doubled it up?

You're welcome, and good luck! Do show off the result :D

Pics or it didn't happen ;)

It is indeed very secure, I had to lessen the amount of twist or it was too tight. Right now it is holding quite comfortably. I think I have my new signature bun right here :)

Thanks for posting this. I am definitely going to try this when my hair gets a bit longer.

And I now want a flexi-8. I never knew there were so many things to want! How do you guys have any money left?!?

I loved hearing the kitty voice :)

That's such a cool style! Sadly, I seem to totally zone out when watching instructions - my brain doesn't function well enough to grasp the finer details, for some reason. All I get is "twist, twist, twist" then do something and then secure at base with stick..... :o(

Beautiful style, though, and thank you for sharing, even if I am too stupid to figure it out!

My hair isn't long enough for this yet, but I'm saving it for when it is. Beautiful bun, Eadwine!

I have stopped buying a lot of hair toys a while ago, that is how I have some left

You can figure it out. Just take it step by step. Start twisting the hair first, when you have that down you do the fold in half part. Then twist the whole thingy and flip down the top coil that was in your finger there. Make it a little like a slide, insert the stick and voilà.

Trust me, you can do this :)

I tried it! (Pictures in album.) My hair's not quite long enough yet, so I left out a little and made a braid to wrap around the bun. It's hard to see anything, though, because my hair's so dark it doesn't show up very well for the webcam.

I've had a number of attempts at this, but can't quite get the hang of it.

So that the coil of hair doesn't start untwisting itself when I twist the two halves together, I have to do it the opposite way to what is natural for me - and I haven't mastered that yet.
Also, I think having quite thick hair at the nape and a lot of taper doesn't help. But that might just be me making up excuses for my poor technique, eh-heh. ;)

Anyway, here are two of my attempts. The bun is secured at the bottom only, as per eadwine's instructions, so that's something ... yay!

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn253/AprilElf/Misc%20LHC/twisterflip.jpg

Most of my attempts looked like a mutant Celtic Knot (left), but I quite like the look of the messy attempt on the right. :p

That looks EXACTLY like mine (when I get it just right, that is hehe, I too have to fiddle at times). It looks beautiful!

I very much like that it is secured at the bottom. I've not been successful with that yet, my hair is very thin, slick, and slippery and it just collapses unless secured at the top as well. I do something similar to this often though, it's quite comfy, looks complex, and works with a slide, a fork, or a barrette. A few hairpins are enough to keep the top from falling over. :)

I guess having a broken camera means I don't really exist.... boo hoo. ;)

eadwine
September 20th, 2009, 08:01 AM
At some point I would say indeed that there is too much of a coil up on the top, and then the weight will make it topple. An Amish pin here and there will sort that out right quick indeed :)

Too bad it is broken...

You could always lay down on the scanner!! ;) Kidding hehe

eadwine
September 23rd, 2009, 12:21 AM
Here is a variation. You twist the other way, then start off making a 10sec quick bun but instead of using the hair as a slide you keep twisting. Make sure the loose ends poke out on top for that fun tuft, and secure with a stick.

Here is what you get:

Thanks for posting this. I am at a similar stage and have been doing something similar for a while, but didn't think to add the little loop pull-through at the end. Great idea! You have just saved me tons of stress and frustration. :meditate: This will be super-secure in my hair. Some days it just won't figure-8 for me since there's enough now for a third turn of the hair if you know what I mean. Thank you! :D

eadwine
September 23rd, 2009, 09:29 AM
I know EXACTLY what you mean!

Frustrating, irritating, and happy-ating at the same time ;)

This kind of bun will work at any length, just twist, and when longer double it up, and secure. I just have to find a way to make the ends twist around some base first or the floop monster comes peeking around the corner

Agggh I couldn't do it with some much twisting but I did manage to get a less coiled version up. I think I need another 4 inches of hair to make this work properly. Anyway you can have a laugh at my attempt!!
