I just did this today, made two Dutch braids, and then made them end up together in a lazy infinity, braided bun. :)

Do copy me, and show me the outcome of yours :D

(yeah that click clack is there for work purposes, have to keep that wild stuff reigned in there )

eadwine and Sherri,

You ladies rock! Very awesome!

*gives me more style ideas :hmm: * hehe I dunno if I could pull off a dutch bun ;)

I do a similar style, except it's in French braids (I get a lot of grief from family that I look like Heidi). I'm definitely going to have to try this version now, I like how you can see the braids better.

Eresh: yes you have to *grin*

yellowchariot: You can pull off the braid definitely, and maybe an itty bun? *giggles*

KaasKnot: ignore them foolish folks ;) Oh do share a picture!

I hear ya... that pic was taken when I was learning the dutch braid and it came out very loose looking. Now that I have the braid down pat I need to take another pic with it done a little tighter and see how it turns out.:)

Eadwine, I've been wanting to try this style for a while, so thanks for prodding me. It looks so good on you all!

So here's my first attempt, using the intructions for a Classic Braid at Dreamweaver (http://dreamweaverbraiding.com/braids/classic.htm) (Sorry it's a bit blurry, it happened when I uploaded it for some reason!):

I had one of these in my album, here it is:
The bun looks huge, which amazes me since I don't have a lot of hair! :o Must have been the angle of the photo...

Nice pictures everyone !

I was bored so I thought why not try it ? It doesn't look so good, I need more practice with doing two braids:laugh:.

I love these!! Unfortunately I'm only good at one Dutch braid on my own head - I tried all last evening to do a good double-Dutch bun...but it didn't happen. Lol, all I got was the single Dutch bun, which is in my updo album here. :p I love how talented everyone here is!

I could do only one as well, then I decided that I MUST know this style. I know one, I can do two.

Trick that I use is bend your head forward, separate the hair in two, then ponytail one side right above your ear. You'll look goofy but you are not grabbing that hair then. All you have to make sure next is to keep your hands close to the side of the head and the side sections shorter, and there you go :)

Yeah, this really helps. I never do two Dutch braids (or French) without putting the other side in a pony while I work. It makes the part cleaner.

I am wearing them loose right now, I might just do that tomorrow, I think it is a bit kiddish but... WHO CARES!! :D

I love all of your photos and I find this style really cute. :)
So I'd tried for the first time... It's pretty messy and assymetrical but the next time it will be prettier. Actually it was really more difficult to take a photo, ahah.

Whoa lovely dutchbraided buns posted here!
I was inspired so I gave it a try too.

My first try...and on greasy hair, I thought it would be easier than on washed hair (slipperydoodah),
but raaaa the ends kept tangling while I tried to dutch braid the sides.
Still, I was happy with the result :)
Dutchbraiding needs some practise yep.

Oh I'd really love to try this one...it's SO pretty and interesting to look at. However, I am a bumble fingers and I can't even seem to get a single french braid right. :( I wish I could have someone do it for me...

I better go practice. I can do braids on others and on my horses, but on myself? I'm hopeless!

Super cute. That's something to aspire to! I'm terrible at braiding my own hair. I keep telling myself that it will get easier as my hair grows longer.

Yeah that tangling is familiar, it's braiding somewhere down there at the same time as you are braiding the Dutch ones

I did a slight variation on this right now as my hair is a bit too short still to do the braided infinity comfortably after the dutch braiding.

I have four tiny stay-in-hair clips, they don't slide out no matter what you do, and I thought.. let's use these.

So.. I had the two braids again, this time I put a flat knot in them, then another knot, and another knot, all the way till I reached the end. I could leave the ties on the hair. Then I flipped the entire knotted thing up, tucked in the ends, and secured it against my head with the clips.

The result:

These are so pretty. Usually I do a single Dutch right down the middle and terminate into a plain bun. If I part my hair off and do the sides individually I will do what my Klutz book, Hair, calls a Reverse Roll — basically a rope braid tied in like a French or Dutch braid.

Very pretty variations of the double dutch braided buns :)

Here are my three favourite ways to wear them, not the best pictures, but thatīs the only ones I found:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?pictureid=50281&albumid=2628&dl=1252935432&thumb=1 (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2628&pictureid=50281) dutch-ropebraided chinese-bun

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?pictureid=50282&albumid=2628&dl=1252935432&thumb=1 (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2628&pictureid=50282) regular dutchbraided chinese-bun

A real dutch classic (with cinnamon bun) or an infinity bun sadly gulp large sections of the dutch braided parts... chinese or inside out buns compress better, so thatīs what I tend to use.

I'm not very good at a dutch braid, due to lack of practice, but here's a french braid version I did a while back:
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/8403/1000357.jpg (http://img228.imageshack.us/i/1000357.jpg/)

I think I will definitely need to practice my dutch braiding skills, to expand my repertoire.

Also, my neck seems to look very bizarre in this pic, something to do with the way I'm twisting. I assure you, I'm not a mutant.

I decided to do this style yesterday, as it was DD9 and my hair was getting a bit too manky for anything else except braids. :p As it was, I had some irritating scalp cleavage, and I can't explain what happened to the right side braid! LOL! Took me longer than my normal work-day updos, and I nearly missed my bus!

http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn253/AprilElf/Misc%20LHC/dutchclassic.jpg

Finoriel, I have the same problem you described; when I do a Classic Braid the resulting bun hides quite a lot of the side braids. I actually wore the style with the braid coiled flat (like this pic (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=145&pictureid=40338)) all day. But when I got home I redid the bun, coiling the braids side on, to see if I could get a smaller bun - which is what the pic above shows.

Thanks eadwine and yellowchariot :D
You know, while growing along there is plenty of time to try different things, yellowchariot. After year 4 english braids became boring and I learned some new ones.

Cool idea AprilElf, :) I tried it today. It was not as pretty as your version, though. Not sure what it was, looked too uneven in my hair for my liking... probably the evil braid-taper of doom :gah!:.
Oh I know what happened to the right side of your braid - hairtick-gremmlins :agree:, they try to sabotage every hairstyle which is not using their sticks .

Zéphine
September 18th, 2009, 12:52 PM
I tried it, pictures in album. I used to do two Dutch braids a lot to hide greasiness, but I usually clipped them up at the base of my neck or did a really messy bun with a hairnet. I think this way is much cooler-looking. By the way, I love post-your-picture threads! All of you have really awesome hair and styles.

eadwine
September 18th, 2009, 01:01 PM
I love them too, it's why I am always asking people "mimic me!!" I love looking at how other people do on the same thing :D

Mind Zéphine, even though offcenter, it looks really nice!

Your welcome!

All of you, are very creative at doing these unique styles. Every time I see twins braids leading into the 1 bun at the back, I'm reminded of the medieval time period.

It would be very awesome, to see a lady get out of a modern day sports car wearing a hairstyle like this, with just jeans and a T-shirt. I'd probably have to applaud her :applause lol! I would have to ask her if she knew, that she was in the year 2009, and that's no horse'n'buggy your driving! lol :D

Ok I'll shut up now, I was just day dreaming, and I went off on a tangerine. . . uh I meant tangent!
