With winter around the corner, annual question comes to mind. One I haven't been able to answer yet. How do I keep a warm head without messing up my bun's, rolls etc. Who has found the perfect cap or hat?

You need one of these (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=12402)!:D Those look awesome! I usually just use a large toque. I have one that can fit over most if not all buns/hairsticks without messing them too much. Just buy a size or two larger than you wear.

I crocheted myself a big, loose angora hat. All my hair fits inside it no matter what style I'm wearing.

I love the Hannah hat pattern...I need to make myself one of those this year. I also like Calorimetry (http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTcalorimetry.html), which is a knitted buttoned headband pattern that keeps the ears and top of head warm and leaves plenty of space for big buns and such.

Check Etsy if you are interested in knitted hats...there are probably similar designs up for sale.

Oh yeah! That's another idea. They make those wide, thick cloth headbands that go over the ears and across the top, but leave the back of the head free. I think I have one of those somewhere...
And I will check Etsy. Thanks. :)

Oh, I like that hat! I wonder if I could figure out how to do the same thing in crochet...
Or maybe I should just buck up and learn to knit already :P

I've got one of those hats, but when the weather gets colder or windier, I like something that lets less air through. My favorite winter hat is actually this bright orange chenile thing I got at the dollar store. It stretches to fit hair (not so good with sticks, though), or else I just wear a braid in my coat.

I use a Polar Buff, which I can usually stretch around my buns (I hold them with Flexis, not sticks). But in winter I usually have my hair partly loose and stuff it around my neck in the Buff.

I have one of those knit hats that have a hole for your bun. I bought it on etsy although I can't remember the seller's name. Try searching on etsy for "long hair hat" or something, I think mine was only $10. :)

I tend to wear a braid tucked into my jacket but there's a lot of rubbing that way which probably isn't very good. This winter I'm going to try making two braids and wrapping them around my head, sort of like a crown braid. I think a hat would go easily over that.

I am going to make both Hanna and Calorimetry, they should come in very handy here in Michigan during winter. :)
