i've never done these so i gave it a go -
using two methods one which worked but i think needs practice and the other one went rather odd not looking 8 shaped at all.
starting with - (sorry if it looks a bit messy)
http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu32/rachelheales/other/SDC14023.jpg
with this artical http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=40 which erm well you can see, i either couldn't understand it or my hair length couldn't handle it.
http://i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu32/rachelheales/other/8.jpg

and this one which is a bun with one coil turn horizontal or vertical depending if you want a 8 or a ∞ from this utube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxnSf8gL1zE&feature=related

My layers won't let me make a decent looking figure 8 or infinity either.

Have you tried a Lazy Wrap? It looks pretty cool-looking, and I have a little extra hair left when I do it, so maybe you can do one too.

I think it looks rather lovely! For your average lay-person who doesn't know what an infinity or figure 8 is "supposed" to look like, they would just think it looks like a really cool bun! I think it is probably your layers that makes the bun look different, but it still looks really good. I would totally wear it out in public if I were you.

I think your F8's look good. Mine hardly ever look like an "8". Mine usually look like a "6" :silly: Keep practicing and try different buns. Yay for updo's!

Your 8s look quite a lot like mine. I haven't figured out how some people get them so flat on their heads, but mine don't quite manage it.

Hang in there, and keep trying.

Mine doesn't look right either. These two buns are definitely not layers/taper friendly. :(
You just need to grow another coil and you'll have a great looking figure 8 and infinity bun. :p

mmm it comes back to those dam layers again problem is i refuse to rid of them seeing as the shortest layer is at shoulder length down to mass hormone shed 2 half years back .
just have to get growing won't i :p , longer the better.

 Yeah, my lazy wraps aren't really recognizable. You can change the look of it on purpose, too, by making it with twisted hair or with not twisted hair. I have a really hard time keeping it neat if I don't twist it though.

Love the wraps!

I loooove the lazy wrap! I tried to do one this morning on my way to work. But if I'm not actually watching the instructions, for some reason I can't do one. :( I'll keep trying, though!

If I could a video for Spidermom's bun, I would have done it. It's a great bun, it's just a little hard to understand it from reading (like any other bun lol).
How about Giblartar bun? It's my Spidermom bun alternative when I what to wear my hair twisted.

Try searching for Gibraltar bun. I think it's spelled that way. :hmm: I think. It's trickily spelled.

Heidi_234

Argh, it wasn't on here, maybe you could try googling it or looking for youtube tutorial?
The way I do it -
I do a bee butt bun with the first coil looser, and the coils under tight.
Then I take the stick, poke though the first coil on one of the sides.
I bring the stick under the base.
Then, on the other side I poke it though the first coil again.

Or alternatively - make the first coil even looser,
Instead of poking the first loose coil, you enter at the space between it and the base (with the rest of the coils)
Go under the base.
And exist in the space between the base and the first loose coil again.

I really hope there are clear. I've got no camera unfortunately.

Well, here's a link. This (http://www.io.com/~cortese/hair/styling.html) page is where I first learned the Gibraltar bun. Good diagram, but no video.

I think they all look great - like another person said, it's really only the people here who know what they're 'supposed' to look like. To everyone else they'll just look like a nice updo with a pretty hairtoy. :)

My favorite is the second picture. With your earrings, the hair accessory, and the gorgeous color, it looks sensational and just cool.
