How do you do this (http://10.media.tumblr.com/DBRnR67M4pzsovedDweEXcUeo1_400.jpg)? Is my hair too long (i can sit on my hair) for this kind of bun?
I normally do a double chopstick bun, but add a hair tie to keep it together
as the weight of the hair falls with pins alone as its gotten really thick.
I imagine its best for medium length thin hair with some kind of sculpting
lotion or gell. Is there a roller or something hidden in there?

Ummm, from her pictures on the web, it looks like she had (at the most) shoulder length hair. Her hairdo (displayed here) had been lacquered and shellacked with a ton of hair spray.

Great movie! I've watched it many times.

There is a scene in the movie where she puts the hairdo up again after jumping into the river. It's only shoulder length and she twists it and puts in a couple of (bobby?) pins. I would imagine that if your hair is thick and long, perhaps a similar style would be better. French twist or Log Roll perhaps?

I couldn't find any instructions for a regular French Twist in the article section, but there are plenty on Youtube.

Yes, I think your hair is way too long for this exact style; I think it's basically just looped under itself once, pinned and sprayed into immortality. Kind of like this chignon (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=132), but without the elastic and with way more pins and hairspray.

What about one of Hypnotica's French twist variations (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=116)? The first one has a similar effect, you could arrange the top hair into more of a swirl , and use pins instead of the clips she uses.

Yes, great movie. She has very short hair, and it looks to be a loose french twist which displays the roll of the hair.

From that angle it looks like a French roll with another swirl *technical term* going in the other direction on top of the french roll. While longer hair would make that whirl bigger it looks doable.

Great movie. I'll have to watch it again. I think it looks like a regular old french twist on the bottom and a twist going the opposite way on the top. Instead of tucking the ends under on the top part, they made it into a decorative curl/swirl. I don't see any way you could do it on tailbone length hair.

Thanks everyone, I think I understand the countering up vs down french twist with the curl in the middle. Kinda like a shellaced black hole of hair. I think I'll just stick to the lazy french twists. It'd be nice to do something other than a chinese bun as I run out the door. Though I think I'd need some larger clips. I may do a search on other easy updo's for pencils and chopsticks. Things always fall out of my hair, so I hate buyig expensive hair pins or clips. I've tried engine valves and they looked really fun in a bun. Really appreciate everyone's response.
