Ooh, how interesting! This is the first I've heard of it, but I'm going to keep my eyes open for more information/updates.

I vaguely recall someone mentioning this a year or so ago - I think one of our members here was one of the models used to give the animators an idea of how superlong hair moves. I will dig and see what I can come up with.

Yup. It was nicolezoie that was the model for this.

Here's the previous thread. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=4650)

I have several nieces who will love this movie. Thanks for the information. :)

Over the past year many of my friends have started calling me Rapunzel. I just smile. I wish they could see some of the really beautiful Rapunzel's we have here at LHC. I'm not even close to being a true Rapunzel. But I do love being called one :p

$10 it will have a Disney sugar coating on the story. :P

No kids, no fall from the tower and making the prince blind, no tears from Rapunzel to cure him... :drama: We'll have to wait and see.

No bet. Look what they did to Little Mermaid.

Yeah yeah, I know it's marketed to kids and they don't want to show frightening scenes, but still... I like a little less sugar and more substance to my fairy tales.

That said, of course I'll go see it. :p

I must be a bad adult-- I love the sugary sweet stories. When I was little, Ursula was too much for me, and so was the scene where Simba's daddy dies, and I'm pretty much the same now. I can handle them, but I don't LIKE them. I'm watching something to be entertained, not to feel my heart tear in two. *blush*

Ooh, I hadn't heard of this...I've been hoping for the perfect movie to take my dd to for her first *big* theater movie that she might remember. This will be PERFECT!!! (Her hair is tailbone length, and she says she never wants to cut her hair--but she's 4, so we'll see!)

Sometimes its nice to have a happy ending once in a while. I remember seeing the Disney people in an interview about The Little Mermaid saying "We knew we had to change the ending," and they chuckled. Sometimes wonder if Disney is a prisoner of its own tight little perfect image box :hmm: then I remember crap like High School Musical and laugh at them. :D

If she is, then I'll be t we will have a few new Disney princess songs to add to our collection. :-) I am also excited about Rapunzel, but I just wish they had given her red hair. It would have been awesome to see a princess with Long red hair walking around Disney Land.

I was upset when they shortened Giselle's hair after she came to our world. It was almost floor length in Andelasia but when she comes through they cut half of it off. They cut off even more when she went to the ball. :-(

God bless,

~Ruthie aka Rapunzel :-p

It also went curly all of the sudden, that killed some lenght too.

Found this for all you ladies. I assume this is the length (http://sbase.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/rapunzel.jpg) her hair will be cut off at since they have to market Rapunzel dolls and no little girl wants a doll with a bob (lest she cuts it herself like half the dolls will be anways, lol.

Looks like they get out and have an adventure or something. I don't know, I have not read the plot, but this IS Disney... If they can leave out that Hera didn't birth Hercules, he had a family and killed them, and add in a lot of other crap, I am sure they will mess up this fairytale and make it more... marketable.

Hey--I liked Hercules, even if it was completely inaccurate! So what if Philoctetes was a satyr, and not his apprentice, and who cares if they skipped that whole Argonauts thing...and merged the fates and the gorgons...

Okay, iffy, but whatever. It'd be a rather short movie if he was just rescing her from the tower though--and I doubt it'll be a straight 'OHMIGODTHEPRINCERESCUEDMEFROMTHE TOWER' deal.

To be fair, my boyfriend won't see The Hunchback of Notre Dame because he's heard of all the "creative licenses" that Disney took with the story. He read the book and knows quiet a bit about how the author slaved himself to create such a literary masterpiece. So he feels like the Dsiney modifications are brutal and that if they were going to treat the story so disrespectfully they should not have made it at all.:) I don't know much about the Rapunzel story, but I hope they won't corrupt it much for you :) (I've been to movies of books I've read and been pretty dissapointed)

Having an LOL plot would seriously suck! I hope they're not doing that.

Many of the old fairy tales weren't really for children at all. They were meant for adult audiences, especially tales like the Sleeping Beauty in the Wood -- which featured the princess waking up by giving birth to twins. Her prince didn't stop with just a kiss.

It's not until the Victorian age that the tales were sanitized and turned into "nursery tales".

From the Wikipedia:

"Keane also promises that he’s going back to Rapunzel’s literary origins to do a traditional, character-driven fairy tale that speaks to a modern audience. “It’s a story of the need for each person to become who they are supposed to be and for a parent to set them free so they can become that. It will be a musical and a comedy and have a lot of heart and sincerity."

While I'm actually excited to see the movie (Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie) I have to wonder how far back they went to come up with the plot. I'm guessing the cautionary tale of "get pregnant and I'll kick you out" won't be present.

Hi everybody,

I just saw this in my Twitterfeed, and thought I'd come over here to break the news. Little did I know y'all were already talking about it a year ago.

There's a short video with clips from the film on YouTube now, and it has a release date of November 24th, which must be Thanksgiving weekend.

PS Why do the directors look like soap opera stars?
