I have impulse control issues.
Whole foods has reformulated their 365 everyday value shampoo and conditioner lines. They previously contained sulfates so I never tried them. There is also a fragrance free version.
I grabbed Herbal Mint Shampoo for normal + dry hair. Since I like to do heavy oiling overnight. I will try it in the morning and share:) Ingredient wise I did not see any red flags, however, I am rusty.

Ingredients: Aqua (water), sodium myristoyl sarcosinate, cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, disodium cocoamphodipropionate, sodium cocoamphoacetate, sodium chloride, glucono- lactone, sodium benzoate, phenethyl alcohol, glyceryl caprylate, citric acid, hydrolyzed soy protein, panthenol, arnica montana (arnica flower extract), thymus vulgaris (thyme extract), polysorbate 20, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary oil), mentha piperita (peppermint oil), mentha spicata (spearmint oil), mentha arvensis (cornmint oil), citrus medica limonum (lemon oil), lavandula angustifolia (lavender oil), thymus vulgaris (thyme oil).

OMG, I just stopped by whole foods today and didn't even attempt to control my impulses. :p I tried the lavender poo and condish and oh...my...goodness. They are absolutely fab. Even my hubby said "woah, your hair feels awesome". :D

So how does the herbal mint smell? Is it overwhelming like Nature's Gate stuff?

Lilli

Oh, and as for the ingredients... anything with "myrist-" in it is pretty moisturizing and gentle. It does have protein, obviously, but otherwise it looks fine.

Huh.
That's good to know!

Yes that is really good to know!

Well I am currently drying. It did create a slight lather and seemed very gentle. It has a strong scent of rosemary/mint. I would compare it to Nioxin.
Whole Foods has an amazing return policy if it is not to your liking. The other varieties smell much less medicinal.
I am going to grab a conditioner today.
My husband must never look under the sink.:)

I got the herbal mint as well, but have not had a chance to try it. I have smelled Nature's Gate and would not buy it because of the smell. This one, however, was nice enough to try, at least. Today my hair is still super soft and shiny. :sun: I think I have found a keeper.

Yes, I know about the "myrist" b/c if it is in face products, it makes me break out!

I like Rosemary Mint. The Nature's Gate was so heavy spicy/vanilla and yucky. Whole Foods is so far away but one day I will get the energy!

Anyone have an ingredients list for the new conditioner? :) I used to use the grapefruit kind, but it wasn't slippy/moisturizing enough for me, so I wonder if they've made it better.

This is the ingredient list for the Fragrance free 365 Everyday value conditioner from their website.
Ingredients: Ingredients: aqua (water), behentrimonium chloride, glyceryl stearate, gluconolactone, sodium benzoate, phenethyl alcohol, glyceryl caprylate, polysorbate 60, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin, sodium citrate, stearyldimoniumhydroxypropyl laurylglucosides chloride, aloe barbadensis, panthenol, tocopherol (vitamin e), matricaria recutita (chamomile flower extract).

Not every product is listed on Whole Food's Website. (I just could not find it) I bought Citrus Conditioner today and will post the ingredients shortly. I am a very slow typist:)

Awww darn! I like it for an SLS poo after I use cones upon occasion and to clarify! (I'm not sure of any other fragrance free SLS poos though!)

if you like to SLS shampoos to remove build up i'd suggest a natural clarifying shampoo to remove buildup instead of SLS's

SLS tend to lead to premature balding, so thats why i'd advise avoiding them

I like their unscented conditioner as a co-wash, it'll be interesting to see how the new formula is!

cool......my whole foods was selling travel sized versions of all the shampoos and conditioners for $.49 the other day. I wonder if those were the reformulated ones. Then I could try ALL of them...

I don't use an SLS poo on a regular basis, but when I have cone buildup(upon the rare occasions I use cones), I like to use an SLS shampoo to get all the cones out. Also, SLS is a great household cleaner, and I like how I can carry around a little bottle of SLS poo to wash my hands with if my school is out of it. Normally I use shampoo bars, but they are not up to removing cones. I'm curious how SLS leads to balding? I understand it's a very harsh shampoo, but I'd think that would just lead to breakage?

Does anyone know which of the 365 conditioners would be the most moisturizing?

OK it is official. I HATE this stuff. I recently bought the new reformulated version of the Lavender Blend Conditioner after having eyed the original version for years and never taking the plunge.

At least the original version of the Lavender conditioner had what appeared on the label to be pretty natural sounding ingredients. The new one appears to be mostly chemicals - which is weird to me since they just reformulated it to make it 'more natural' and better for our bodies and the environment... supposedly anyway...

Under all the chemical sounding names are the names of the herbs - but whatever.

It did not work for my hair for CO washing at all.

The first time I tried it I thought it was just that I hadn't clarified first or used enough conditioner or something. My hair came out stringy and felt coated and just hung very straight and wasn't shiny at all.

Yesterday I decided to try it again and used even more and even let it sit for about 10 minutes under a plastic bag before massaging some water in and finishing my CO wash. YUCK

After I rinsed it out - it does rinse out pretty easy - my hair felt ok - and it does make it feel soft and smooth - but I could tell it was not quite right. It felt very thin and lank even though I made sure I rinsed it out well. The first time I used it I even used an ACV rinse - this time I didn't.

After my hair dried it was a little shinier - but still hung straighter than usual and lank and thin.

When I went to make my sleep bun my hair was so slippery that it wouldn't stay up - which sounds good - but it felt so thin and it just felt like half of my hair had disappeared or something - hard to explain.

Today when I took my sleep bun down (well actually it kind of fell down) my hair did not have any bun waves - usually it has wonderful bun waves in the morning - and it looked stringy and even a bit greasy or something on the middle and ends.

I'm actually considering throwing this conditioner in the trash which saddens me because I had high hopes for it.

Other people who have better luck with CO washing or a different type of hair or water or something may have better luck than me - I hope so :D

So count me very disappointed :( even suave TC (which doesn't work very well for me in the long run) worked better than this.

It does smell good though - and the rosemary in the blend makes your scalp tingle and feels refreshing. Maybe the shampoo would be better. SIGH

Sorry to hear that you were disappointed, ratgirldjh. I still have hopes it will work for me, once I figure out which type would be most moisturizing.

I hope you haven't already thrown out what you bought. I'm sure if you took it back to WF they would refund your money or let you exchange for another product.

I agree that the conditioners are a bit heavy, since my curls are getting pulled out a bit as well. But honestly, I am trying to decide if that is enough for me to stop using it. I love the poos, no doubt, so I might just use another conditioner. My hair is almost behaving like it has cones. Hmmm. I wonder.

They also reformulated their cheap lotion which I have been using for over a year.. grrr.. now it doesn't absorb properly, it took me 15 minutes to put on lotion last night.

I will have to try the condish, just for fun, since my hair doesn't usually like protein.

I hope it works for you too - it may work better in curly hair or coarser hair - i don't know. If I remember next time I go to WF I will take it back. The only thing I buy there since we have so many other options for natural foods and hair care here in Austin, TX - my only time to visit WF is to buy some special sesame oil that I can order on-line just as easy.

So I may never go there...

where are you located? maybe i could ship it to you? but it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle - it is only $2.99 LOL

I would think the lavender/blend would be the most moisturizing because I think it said for dry hair - and the grapefruit would be more clarifying IMO because of the citrus oils.

The lavender blend has rosemary in it and it tingles quite a bit! I was very suprised by this. It is almost as tingly as Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat! Just a different kind of tingly.

At first I was afraid I was allergic to it and then realized it was the rosemary... but I'm not entirely sure because there are so many questionable ingredients on the list and I don't feel like looking up what they are at this point being so disappointed with my results.

I have been allergic to almost every new conditioner I have tried in the past several months except for Aubrey Organics HR and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition - I probably shouldn't have taken the chance...

But you know how it is LOL :D yum - conditioner ;) my hair hates most conditioners anyway so being allergic isn't too bad - except for when you want to find a new conditioner for CO washing :( I'm actually tired of searching for my HG conditioner - sigh

Thank you for the offer, but the shipping would probably cost more than the conditioner itself, as you said! That must have been why I tried the lavender one; the label said something about moistures. But I found that it made me sleepy in the mornings at work. I didn't want to believe it was the conditioner, but when I stopped using it (used up my sample) the morning sleepiness went away. Maybe I'm just really sensitive to lavender. For kicks, I should get another sample and see if it happens again.

Lavender is supposed to be relaxing LOL

Well the new formula smells and feels much like rosemary to me than lavender - so it may work better for you.
It is called Lavender Blend... You can smell it before you buy it...

I have chemical sensitivities and bought the 365 lavender poo and conditioner to leave in my shower for houseguests. I use them if my hair is especially dirty - like I got massage oil in it. I don't use the poo everyday because it has SLS - boo hiss Whole Foods. I'm not crazy about the scent choices, either.

Avalon Organics (no SLS) is my favorite - love the Ylang Ylang, Peppermint - whole line of aromatherapy in the shower! But Whole Foods has marked the price up to $9.95 for 11 oz (up from $6.95) while offering their 365 brand for something crazy affordable like $4 for 32 oz.

I'm seriously hating the Nature's Gate conditioners that I've tried (Herbal Daily and Aloe Moisturizing). There is a Whole Foods near where we go to see movies (and occasionally visit a farmer's market), but I wouldn't have to get conditioner often since I only use it for SMTs, and it comes in a big bottle. What did you guys pay for what size of S&C?

I think the large size is $4.99.

I ended up taking mine back. My scalp began to burn and developed scabs! Grrrr! They were quite nice about the return though. Sigh.

I have decided that for me, WF 365's Citrus Conditioner is a mini-hair disaster. I have a mess of velcro ends that I end up tying to salvage with gobs of leave in conditioner. I gave it a week thinking that it might get better. However, the shampoo is gentle and works well with other conditioners. I plan to repurchase. Plus I can buy more hair toys this way.
