What is this called and how do you do it?

i did this the other day without elastics and used a fexi-8 to hold it in place and it came out quite well, made my hair look finer.

What is it called? it's such a simple ponytail design but with hair wrapped round it .

What method do you use to make these (e.g using pins) or some similar up-dos?

Looks like a single odango (http://www.saveoursailors.org/odango/odango.html) to me.

Sounds like you didn't knot it, though, just twisted some hair around the base? I used to like that for higher ponytails when I had longer hair; it helped keep them from being too heavy. I used pins to secure the twist, but the flexi is really pretty!
