View Full Version : How to keep a silk scarf on my head?

I just got a nice silk scarf, but when I put it on my head with the same technique as my cotton ones, it slips off! Is there a style of tying these that will keep them on, or should I use bobby pins or something similar?

Thanks!

A bobby pin above your ear on each side, or some other type of small, flat clip may do the trick! :)

Putting snap clips nears the ears seems to help. I found some itty bitty ones at either the grocery store or Target, you can hardly see them.

I haven't used them, but Tznius has snoods designed to wear under scarves. They say they keep the scarf from slipping.

I have some wide white stretchy "head band" type things I wear (they are meant to go under a hijab scarf), they also come in other colors and patterns. I helps keep the scarf on my head (add benefit being you can break out the straight pins and pin the scarf to it) and keep the new growth craziness in place.

I tried bobby pins and clips but my hair is just too slippery, the scarf would slide off anywhere it wasn't held down which got annoying.

I've also heard if you put the hair half back with one of those one-piece metal barrettes, you can pin the scarf directly to your head above the barrette.

Bobby pins only really work for me if I use 2 at each point and cross them so they make an X shape over the edge of the scarf.

It'd be easier to suggest help if I knew how you were tying your scarf...

I tie it more or less like http://www.coveryourhair.com/HowToTieTiechels.html except that in step 3/4 I tie the corners of the scarf over the back triangle, rather than tying them under it and tucking it over them. So I wind up with a big ol lump of bun covered with scarf which is tied both on top of and under it.
