Hi guys :)
I'm quite new here, and I came mostly to learn new hairstyles. I've had quite long hair for years, mostly at about BSL (I think it's just past BSL at the moment), but I never learnt how to do anything with it at all.
Project number one: learn to french braid!
This is hardly a style I've never seen before, but I was convinced it was really, really difficult. It's not that bad really, but it's hard to keep track of three strands when you can't let go of one because it will disappear into the remaining hair. That gave me a lot of trouble with keeping the braid tight, my first tries were so loose that it didn't look anything like like a french braid at all. My first tries were yesterday, this is something like my fifth try:

It actually looks like a french braid! Not a very good one, but a french braid nonetheless.
I'm feeling quite triumphant at the moment, and my arms hurt...

It looks lovely! Way better than my french braids look, even now.

And may I add, your hair is a lovely color!

Thanks :D
I actually really like the colour, it's the main reason I was always very hesitant to colour my hair which I'm glad I didn't do now that I want to grow it long and healthy :)

Wow that is one thick braid! :flower: You have me beat, I cannot do a braid at all, I have very few styles, mainly, it's a bun! Second style is ponytail, third style is no style at all, hair hanging loose.

You did great :cheese:

Wow that is one thick braid! :flower:
My hair is funny that way. I measured my ponytail's circumference to type my hair, and got "normal", which was odd, because I thought I had very thick hair. It doesn't really taper at all though. Maybe that's why it seems so thick.

You need to have 25 quality posts(and 28 to 48 hours here? I can't remember)to see photos.

This thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=1658) might help

That is an excellent braid! I love the color of your hair, and it's wonderfully thick. Beautiful!

It does make your arms hurt, doesn't it? :p

Waaaaaah! That braid is perfect! Congratulations!

I've been trying to get the French braid right for a month. Granted, I haven't practiced all that much. But it's really hard to keep track of what hair I'm trying to add, and how I hold the new pieces in my hand.

I'm still firmly of the belief that you need 14 fingers to do it. :(

Very cool. I can do lots of things with my hair, but a french braid actually isn't one of them. Way to go!

No no, no need for 14 fingers, 10 is enough if you spread them out over three hands, instead of two :p

That is a pretty awesome fifth try! I wish my french braids looked that neat. Problem is, I can't see the back of my head.

Nice job! It's very thick, too. Things like that just take practice. And I like your stripey top. :)

Awesome! Now you made me want to try again! I've tried to make one several times, but my hair will never cooperate. But like you, victory will be mine one day :)

Wow! You know, as I was reading your description of your braiding woes, I was gearing myself up for one crazy french braid! Ha! Then, I scroll down and see perfection? How I wish I was as "unskilled" as you to be able to create that kind of polish on my own hair! I didn't see a single hair sticking out. Good on you Missy! You'll be one of our famed twelve strand braiders in no time.

Hiriel, wonderfull braid!

I indeed think it looks very well done :) And I guess it's normal that your arms hurt :p Always happens to me too when I do a french braid!

Great style on your hair!

You have beautiful hair - so healthy and thick! :) I'm terrible trying to French braid my own hair as I keep dropping pieces and loosing track of where I am. :o

It looks great!

I taught myself to do a french braid on myself many years ago when I was in jr high (middle school), but I've already learned things here to help me make it smoother--lucky you to have good instructions from the get-go!

That's very nice! My hair will never be as thick, maybe as thick as one strand of that braid. Serious hair envy coming on! :)
