View Full Version : What do you do to keep from touching your hair?

I don't know if this applies much to daily washers as it does to those who wash every other day or even weekly, but what do you guys do with your hair to avoid messing with it?

As my hair has gotten longer, I can't resist the urge to wash it, treat it and play with it daily. I see all my products and want to use them ALL! I try to stick with a regime, but whenever I log on here and other sites, I see great stuff that others are doing and want to jump in on it too.

So what do you guys do that keeps you focused on your regime? How do you keep your hair "out of mind?" I feel that if I quit playing with it, it'll grow better, but I can't help myself.

I need some fun buns and hair toys to play with, perhaps that could help keep my hair up and away. Sigh, I need a hair addict specialist:o

When my hair was past BSL, I could never stop playing with the ends of it. Probably part of why they got so damaged and tangly. :(

Eh... still struggling (half-heartedly... I'm not trying that hard) with that one. I mess with my hair all the time.

Putting it up is about all I can do to not mess with it. I too feel like it's pretty damaging so I'd really like to stop.

I use a head scarf. :) Keeps my hair out of the way and when I reach up to touch it, all I feel is fabric.

I too need to keep it out of my mind, often when I watch TV I'll sit and practice braiding techniques... Not the best even if I don't watch that much TV... Personally I find that if I pout my hair up with a flexi8 that keeps me from playing with it, it just stays up perfectly. I have to run look in the mirror a lot though to admire it :)

I will be watching this thread with great interest. D: I'm a compulsive hair-toucher. D:

Which sounds rather inappropriate, even though it isn't. xD; I sense a social group coming on...

I have the same problem so I've just started wearing my hair up in something like a Gibson tuck or Hypnotica bun. This really helps, even just braiding it is good, and keeping yourself busy lol, i've been able to fool people when I haven't washed my hair in a week by using a BBB in the morning then putting it up with ends firmly hidden for the rest of the day :D:D:D

I'm too tired to do any hair treatments when I come home in the evenings and too sleepy to wash it in the mornings. When I'm at work I'm really busy and twisting hair while driving is distracting.
You see, it's simple ;)

I don't touch my hair or face because they're oily. The oils would get transferred to anything I touch.

I hate greasy computer keyboards and mice. :)

Ooh, I hate that too. My mom is P/O'ed because the keyboard stays greasy. It's my coconut oil :o

Mmm...I may do that. I think if I tie my hair down, I'll mess with it less. Good suggestion!

I am with you on that. We do need to start a group...Let's see if one can't be made...I'm sure there are plenty of people that can't stop touching their hair...

I try to keep it up most of the time. I know that the more I mess with it, the more problems I'll probably have that will affect my length. I agree, learning new buns and up-styles is a great idea and maybe that will help you out some. :)

I'd love to tell you that as you get used to having long hair, you'll be less star-struck by it and not notice it so much....but I can't. I've had long hair (even longer than this) all my life and I'm still in love with it. :crush:

I have this problem too. I keep reaching up to pat my hair during the day - like I need to check it hasn't fallen off or something!

I might need to try some type of aversion therapy, like pinching myself whenever I catch myself fiddling with my hair.

I have found when I use a scarf, I twirl it instead of my hair. Maybe I need to wear more do-dads that dangle from my head.
