So....I bought a bunch of hair sticks today just for something to look forward to using! Does anyone know of any hairstick styles for shorter hair? Mine is around collarbone/shoulder, or do I just have to wait?

I was able to use them to do a french twist or peacock twist at that length. I'm nearing APL now, and my hair is still to short to use them on a bun (I can manage a cinnabun, but just barely, but it won't hold with the sticks.)

I think a lot of it depends on how thick/slippery your hair is, as to when you can do certain updos.

No harm in trying anyway. If you can use them sooner than you thought, well, that's only good, right? (I was so desperate to wear my first sticks I would have crammed them in anyway they would hold, lol)

Easily the best bun I've seen for shorter hair. It turned me into the hairtoy-hoarder I am today--though I soon realized after I can do a lot of "actual" buns. Who knew?

I think you'll probably be able to do it at your length. When you get a little longer, a sockbun is another good option.

I love that one GlassEyes linked to. I've also used them to hold up a gibson tuck (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=2444&pictureid=30393) since I was about your length.

I still can not use hair sticks, I bought some last February right after my "trim" and I have been wating to use them. My hair is still heavily layered from the pixie.

Ihave always wondered what a gibson tuck is...Thank you!!
ETA: now if I could just learn how to make one!!

Eadwine's "10 second quick bun" can be done on fairly short hair, and it holds like concrete with one horizontal stick. When your hair gets longer, you can turn it into a nautilus bun by wrapping the tails around the base some more.

If you wrap it so the loop is up, then bring the tail around the back (rather than wrapping the loop downward first and flipping it like she does), I think you should be able to do this at about collarbone, at my thickness.

I can do a cinnabun (with no hair ties, sticks only!) at almost APL with some layers. Shortest layer is shoulder, longest APL. It's so light and cute, but it takes a couple tries sometimes. It will stay for a couple hours, and doesn't take long to redo, in case it falls out.

I can finally do some other updo's too... thanks for the links! My layers are so short, they keep me from being able to do most styles.
