Hello to Everyone!

First of all I want to think all of you who have directions on youtube for this do! At the time my girl friend would do this to my hair, as well as other female friends at the time. I like this style because it's very functional! It works when a ponytail just can't keep everything secure. After about a month or 2, this is the 1st time I've be able to get it half-way working lol! So with your all's consent, let me know what you think.

What are you thoughts, suggestions, or tips?! Any is appreciated! Thank you all!!

Neat french braid!

Yup, neat. It looks cool. I'm a bit envious, since I can't do it. :D

I love the french braid with your coloring. The gold on top and deeper colors underneath look nice together. :)

That's a great looking french braid. It held up very well. It doesn't look much different in the after shots than the before.

Well done! The style is even more secure inverted (cross each side under the center strand, rather than over as you have done).

I looks really good on your length of hair and I am super impressed you can style it yourself. I can barely do a 3 strand braid myself! And it stayed secured while you mowed the lawn, so I think you've found yourself a winner of a style.

^ Hey thanks to all of your replies! The Mohawk (dutch) version baffles me though, very awkward to do, I just can't seem to get that one going!

For some reason, when someone does the french version on me, it's much tighter and held solid, but the dutch seems somewhat loose in the back, I wonder why

lookin' good, I hope my french braid skills can improve to that standard in the near future! (right now, I can *sort of* do them on other people, but not at all on myself)

Oh forgot to mention, Torrin Paige has a helpful tutorial on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC_unKDz_JA
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC_unKDz_JA)
The reason I like it is the special tip at the end, which is crossing the last pieces at the end of the french braid. I find this helpful for two reasons: 1) It gets rid of the bump/bubble at the nape, which can be problematic when your hair gets longer and 2) I find that it also helps me keep my "tail" more straight. :)

^ She helped out a lot! I've seen that! Also the other woman that she gives credit for, that has long dark hair. Both were great vids!

Who knows, I may try to do a vid later on when I get better :p lol

Dutch braids feel easier to me! It's funny how different people approach braids. :)

Yours looks really great, and your hair colour is just lovely.

Well the inappropriate material was my nipples (I didn't have a shirt on. . . :p) and I do apologize if I've offended anyone though, I took those pics after I was down mowing today. Next time i'll wear a bra ;) lol j/k

But everything is cool now. Also to be straight forward with everyone, I'm not here to pick up women on the internet, or for online dating! I don't date anymore. . . I'm waiting for the Right Woman to meet, so I can do awesome things to her hair and surprise her and so forth.

However, the nature of my pics are neutral! I'm not trying to provoke anybody! There's nothing to see here people move along! haha

People probably will harmlessly flirt with you though. You will not have to try hard. It's all good. You are amongst mostly women. And we LOVE hair. :p

Later this evening, I tried out the Mohawk(dutch) version, I failed! lol. It feels so awkward to do! But I'm going to sleep in this tonight, I read a lot posts dealing with hair that should be secure while you sleep. So I'll see how this holds up through the night! I can tell right off hand, that this would not hold while mowing the lawn! haha :D

You can clearly see that none of it is secure, and the plaits are crazy! haha just like me  :dizzy:

That last pic shows a Reese's PBC. I don't think those are allowed either.

Seriously, that's pretty good for a first attempt. I think dutch braids are easier than french braids but it seems everyone's mileage varies. I guess it's what comes easiest to you.

Ha! Your Dutch braid is way better than my first Dutch braid. I almost wish I'd taken a picture of it.... oh wait, no I don't. I can French braid my hair in a minute or two -- it's my go-to hairstyle for running because it keeps my layers contained -- but I can't Dutch braid worth anything.

Great job on both of them!

pradabacon
August 9th, 2009, 08:29 PM
Ha! You're far better at the Dutch braid than I am! I can't do one of those to save my life, and I think they look so cool!

Must practice...I'm not letting any silly old boy beat me at braiding! :wigtongue

The French braid looks really good. I'm impressed. :D

Those braids look good. I am envious~I can only do a simply 3 strand and a rope braid. My fingers refuse to follow directions.

Can't commsion this one yet! :silly:

This is a follow up to the "dutch" version I slept in last night.

My thoughts: it works great for brushing your teeth, and sleeping lol!
Also like the "french", it gives cool surfer style waves, and a fuller ponytail, when taken out!

The french braid reminds my of Johnny Depp in Chocolat. His hair was pretty much the same as yours... which is a big compliment in my book.

Jeeze, you did waaaaaay better than I did when I first started trying to french braid and dutch braid. I could do it on other people a lot easier than on myself. I guess everyone has that issue though, lol.

Just wait, this whole hair thing is so insidious! Soon you will be sporting a collection of different shampoos, conditioners, oils, and other products for your hair, and might start a collection of brushed and combs and maybe even *gasps* hair toys! And we will enable you in your coming addiction, oh yes, we will enable you, with absolutely no shame whatsoever.

I've got a long way to go before any of that! honestly though, if I see a different style that looks functional and somewhat easy to do! I will stick with and practice it, but as far as researching into shampoos hair products, accessories, etc. . . I'm still a newbie and know nothing of proper "hair care". The only thing I do is shampoo I use garnier shampoo and conditioner. I switch between "long and strong", "volume and body", and "moisture". blow-dry and brush. . . that's pretty much it

Wow, you did a better job on the Dutch braid on your first try than I did, LOL. I had huge loops going on. :p

...and I'd like to comment on an earlier post - yes, you are amid mostly women, so don't be surprised if you get flirted with a bit. Especially after we start to make the Johnny Depp connection. :crush: It's all in good fun, though. :D

^ Yes I do! you are "the other woman with the long dark hair" :)
At the end, when you rolled your hair into a bun, it instantly transformed your hair into a tidy business look, very professional in appearance!

BTW the music in your video was very relaxing IMO, it helped me stay focused on what you were doing with each strand of hair.

I enjoy music from the Classical Era. I find it to be very stress-relieving and relaxing.

Really?! Thanks for all of your complements! I never intended for the braids to even look great by any means, just serve their use and functionality of keeping my hair secure when I do yard work!

The french braid looks awesome on you! It took me a lot of practice to get the technique down for french braiding my own hair. It was lumpy and falling out for months... but I can do it almost without thinking now. It's my default style for working and sleeping. The dutch braid is still awkward for me, but it's getting better with practice! Yours already looks great, I'm sure it will improve a lot as you practice it. :)

The Dutch braid gives me no end of trouble. I did about half of one last night and it was feeling pretty good, but then my kitty distracted me and I lost it. :p Gotta keep on practicing, because it's the coolest looking braid to me.

I have trouble with the dutch braid also, my hair is layered so it sticks out everywhere with the dutch (mohawk LOL) one.

Anyways i've also never seen a french braid on a guy (well that i noticed anyway) , and i must say it looks really good! I was also thinking johnny dep in chocolat hee hee

Hey thanks again! BTW did anyone else go and eat a pound of chocolate after watching that movie?! I DID!! :D

I have seen french braids on just a few guys, but not the dutch (mohawk version) most of them were bikers. Which is a good idea for riding, especially if you're wearing a helmet.

Dude your braiding skills are awesome... especially compared to mine! I do good to put a regular English braid in back. I have not been working with styling my hair until just recently. It was always just wash, blow, and go. Well except for those days when I committed the dreadful sin of hot ironing it to get that totally silky look. :p

Thanks! I haven't tried anymore here lately because I have been busy, but I need to practice more.

Some of the crossovers on top tend to pop up, and I don't know how exactly to get those sections smoothed out, in order to cross them over so they won't cause any bumps! :silly: haha
