Hi all!!! First post woot woot! :cheese:

I've recently started using bhringraj oil (specifically the Hesh brand seen below).

Hesh Bhringaraj Oil (http://www.helfy.pl/cache/images/e/7/2/e727d0a979f10e7e4dc469af4535207c.jpg)

My hair has taken a serious beating from my thyroid illness and the bhringaraj oil is the ONLY thing that has helped the overall texture and honestly, I noticed improvements within two uses. Even pure coconut oil didn't seem to help on its own.

It says for best results to use twice a week. Is anyone using it more often?? I'm only concerned that it's possible to overdo it and also the directions mention using it in a well ventilated area which makes me a little  - is there something in it that might cause a problem.

Thanks for any input.

I started a thread on it a while back but it depends on what else is in the oil you have. Directions are there for 2 reasons. To protect the consumer and to protect the company from legal problems.

Here is the thread, http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=8939

I used that oil daily for a while and in that time my ponytail circumference increased about 150% and my hair definately grew faster.
I say go with your intuition, if it feels right, and your hair and scalp are liking it then keep doing what works :)

I wondered the opposite - would infrequent (once in a week or two) use be just not effective at all.

Welcome ! :flower:

That's wonderful that you've found something that works for you :D

The second I finish my sulphur serum, I'm going to get the cocoveda oil at henna sooq which has 5% bringhraj and lots of other great indian herbs :cheese:

I would assume that once a week would have an effect, many articles on scalp massage and oiling recommend once a week......although i personally think that if you can do more often then even better, but once a week is still quite frequent and means your scalp is still getting those beneficial herb extracts

I had to ship this oil from the US, and therefore it is very costly for me. That's about the only reason I'd want to stretch it to once a week or so, but if that's ineffective then I'd be actually wasting my money.
Were the instructions meant for bhringaraj oil of scalp oiling in general? I'm intrigued with your experience with this oil.

I think that all their oils come with the same instructions so i'd take it as general oiling advice as opposed to advice specific to that oil.
I can understand you wanting to stretch it out to make the oil last longer, i went back to where i found loads of them before and found that nowhere seems to sell it now. Looks like i was right about them discontinuing it, i guess i was just finding old stock still for sale :(
What exactly would you like to know about my experience with the hesh bhringraj oil? What i can say off the top of my head is that i was wearing my hair heavily oiled every day, keeping it in a bun, washing exclusively with herbs then heavily oiling as soon as my hair dried.....so it could have been the oil/herb extracts, the herbs, or the daily massage (often twice a day). I don't think it was just wearing it up as i tend to do that anyway. Oh, just in case i didn't say, when i used it i massaged it into my scalp.

I didn't got the hesh oil, I got this one: http://www.banyanbotanicals.com/prodinfo.asp?number=3293&variation=&aitem=4&mitem=18
It doesn't have any instructions on it at all, so I thought I'd just oil my scalp before bed after washing my hair. It made my scalp happy, I can't say I experienced increased growth rate so far, but then again, I might have used it a little to infrequently.

Ah yes, that one looks good.....my hair loves sesame oil......that's why i've been using oil blends with sesame oil in for a while now, like trichup and pune mahabhringaraj oil. I wouldn't expect the same rresults from the oil you showed though as the oil i used had not only bhringraj, but many other growth promoting herbs like amla, methi, curry leaf etc....in fact the ingredients list is really long so it could have been any number of herbs that did it, or maybe that specific combination/proportions that worked the growth magic ;)

That's true, good point. But it can't hurt to try. My scalp loves it, whether it promotes growth or not. I think I'll switch to 1-2 times a week.

Sorry, i didn't mean to say the oil you have is no good, sesame oil i find fantastic and it's been used to promote growth and traditionally was believed to help hair keep it's colour. Bhringraj also has many hair benefits, both growth but also helping new hair to grow softer.....the name translates as something like "king of tresses" so it must have gotten that name for a reason.
I hope that you get good results from the oil :)

ChloeDharma, Heidi_234, ktani, or anyone else who has used this oil for a while, can you tell me if it darkens hair? I have medium to dark blonde highlights that I am not really not interested in losing (they cost a lot!) so I'd rather not use an oil that darkens hair, but I was impressed with ChloeDharma's results and am interested in possibly using this myself.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide!

How long did you have to use it before you saw the 150% increase???

I've heard it can take up to a year to see a difference in circumference *waits impatiently * :)

From what I researched on the oil alone, I do not think it darkens hair. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=198857&postcount=4)

Used in a mix with other plants that can added a colour of their own or possibly darken hair, probably, but it would be the others causing the darkening, IMO.

Black dye obtained from plant. (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=198543&postcount=2)

It will take a year at least to see difference in circumference because the new hairs you grow will only reach the base of the ponytail after that amount of time. It has nothing to do with the oil itself, or how long it's going to take to "kick in" and do whatever magic it does.

Only for the privileged inner circle. ;) We simple people will have to go the old fashioned way, 0.5" a month. :)

I don't remember the oil itself darkening my hair, herb washing has at points but not permanently.

Hennaphile I can't remember exactly how long it took, i think around 8 months or so.

I hate to have to say this, but i think we might not be able to get this oil soon. I mentioned this in the thread Ktani started ages ago because the Hesh site stopped listing it, but then i went shopping and saw loads of bottles of it, but last week i went back and nobody stocked it anymore.
I'm wondering if it's worth those of us who like this oil e-mailing Hesh and asking them to start making it again?

I have that oil, but it contains mineral oil as one of ingredient. So, I wonder if it's ok to use .

Are you sure you don't mean Hesh Mahabhringraj oil? Often the two can be confused as the picture for their Bhringraj Oil is used when selling their Mahabhringraj Oil.....Spicesofindia.co.uk do that

Now I have another oil to see if I can find out if I can use it or if it has stuff that I cannot. It sounds wonderful though! :D I am hoping that as it is indian it will be safe, they eat mostly gluten free... Here's hoping.

I have this oil:

http://www.vitacost.com/Auromere-Pre-Shampoo-Conditioner

It has Sesame Oil, Coconut Oil, Ginger Lily Oil, Khus Khus Oil, Nutgrass Oil, Wheatgerm Oil, Neem, Brahmi (Indian Pennywort), Castor leaf, Bhringaraj (Eclipta Alba) and Tulsi (Holy Basil).

I can tell by using it on my scalp for a while now that my hair and scalp loves it. And it soaks into my scalp very easily! Much better than other oils I have used.

I can oil my scalp and the next day my hair looks better all over and not oily!!! I found catnip soaks also to be good for new growth.

I just ordered some from Ayunaturalbeauty.com Can someone comment on the smell of this oil? Is it something that you could leave in your hair to go outside or just to use as pre-poo and just wash out right away?
