Ok I used my DD to make a how to for you guys.

First thing I do is comb all tangles out of the hair and pull up into a high pony tail. I secure Mine with a scrunchie. I secured her's with panty hose.

Once hair is up I spray the tail only with aloe and water. I do the tail only so I don't get band marks where I put my hair up.

I use the smallest sock ring I can comfortably fit all the tail on.

I wrap the end of the tail on the INSIDE of the sock ring. Like this. Wrap fairly tight.

Then pull the tail above your head. SO it's straight up in the air and roll hair down the sock as tight as you can manage. (not really tight, but firm)

Once you reach the scrunchie/elastic with the sock. Slid the sock over the band. I use a scrunchie because it gives more of a bump for the sock to sit on.

THAT'S IT! Your ready for bed. Wake up and unroll gently and shake it out. Your ready for your day.

Don't bother trying to cover the sock. It makes better curls like this.

For thicker longer hair. You can do two of these like pig tail's.

I never thought about spraying the ends, mine gets sooo frizzy when I take them out, thats why I dont wear them so often.

I'm totally confused. I wrapped the hair around the sock okay, but when I wind it down to my head, I can't see how to slide it over the hair tie.

This looks really cool. I left my sock-bun "sock" (really a tube I knitted with the same circumference as my hair which I rolled down) at uni, so I'll have to either make another or wait till I get back there to try this.

See the sock at the top of her pony tail? There is a bit of room left in the center and I push the hold of the sock over the pony tail holder... Clear as mud?

If you covered the sock with a cute fabric, it could be worn as an adorable updo!

Thanks for this. I was wondering what your exact technique was.

I dampened my ends with just water, and they came out very curly (though the sock and tie fell out during the night), but very rough. Next time I'll try it on clean, damp hair with leave-in, but I got complimented today, so it's definitely something to try again! :)

Your welcome I hope it works well for those who try it. Some may need to spread out the hair a bit so it wraps tighter. My hair is layered so it seems to be fine like this. My DD tho need her's spread around the ring a bit to get better curls. She also needed a bit more gel in her hair than I need.

I've always loved these kind of curls! Now I know how to get them without messing about with rollers and/or blowdryers. Yay! Thank you.

I'd been wondering about these sock buns, but hadn't found a tutorial - thanks. And I can SEE your pictures (many I can't). This will be nice to try in the future.
