I tried a new hairstyle the other day that I was quite pleased with. Here it is:

To do this, I made a ponytail and then turned it into a flip-through. I then braided the tail into three braids and tucked the ends into the opening created by the flip-through. I pinned them in place and added a butterfly clip. The clip isn't actually holding anything up, it's all just for show.

I got lots of compliments from coworkers when I stopped by to get my paycheck, and my dad was impressed, too :D

I love that style. It's colloquially called "The Victorian" around these parts. I've worn it many times to great effect. It looks great on you!

Thanks, gumball! I did think it looked rather Victorian.

That is so pretty and the butterfly clip adds to it as well! You also have a lovely hair color :)

Gumball -- your version looks much better than mine! My braids were a little stiff and formed a sort of cage on the back of my head. Yours looks so soft and touchable!

jennydaesy, hootietoot, and GypsyCurls -- thanks! The clip was actually a great find at Walmart. They usually only carry one or two nice pieces at a time, and I find that many of them aren't useful to me. I can thank henna for the color of my hair... I'm quite happy with it, especially since I didn't bother to stand test first!

That looks very elegant, good job. I have that butterfly clip but in bright gold. I think I like your antique looking one better ;)

Oh that's so pretty - I attempted this once, but failed to pin the braids properly, IIRC. Have to try again at some point, it's really nice!

Thanks everyone! I also did a similar version of this style for my friend's wedding. I just made one braid and tucked it into the flip-through hole. I think both ways would also look good with a flower stuck in the hole.

That's very pretty. :) I think I may have that same butterfly. ETA: Or at least very similar, but on a different kind of attachment thingy.
