Gosh, I haven't been here in forever... Pretty much since my old computer got stolen. I bet I'm about to become addicted all over again :)

But anyway, it's been getting rather warm lately, plus I'm taking a metalworking class, so I would like some new ways to keep my hair from falling everywhere.

Right now my hair is... well, kinda short for me... it's below my waist but not yet at the waistline of low-rise jeans... As ever, it's totally straight.

Mostly I've been using a flexi-8 (or sometimes a banana clip) and doing a gibson tuck type thing. What are some other easy (and cheap) clips/accessories and styles? I tend to take my hair down and put it back up several times a day, so the ideal is something that I can just kinda absentmindedly take 10-60 seconds in the middle of class to do.

I'm not a huge bun fan... Mine tend to tower and then fall out of the center, and the easy ones aren't very chic anyway.

Thanks!

Meichigo, I have very long, very straight hair, also. My favorite up-do that only takes about 10 seconds to put up is:

Gather all your hair at the upper back of your head like you are going to put it in a ponytail. Then take a scrunchie and pull just a loop of hair a few inches long through the scrunchie - don't pull it all the way through. Then, double (or triple) up the scrunchie so it is secure around the loop. Take the tail of hair that is still hanging down and wrap it around the outside of the scrunchie. When you get to the ends, tuck them under one of the loops of the scrunchie. Perfect loopy tail and it stays out of your way and secure until you take it out. The longer you make the loop, the more elegant you can make this style look.

I have waist-almost hip length poker straight hair and I find that putting it up in a bun at the nape of my neck really holds it well. There are tons of different ideas for buns on here but my favorites are the braided bun or the Gibraltar Bun secured with a hair stick.

Here is a great site that helped me:

Chinese braided (http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/instruct/china-sticks/)bun or Chinese Bun (http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/instruct/china-sticks/)

I do my chinese braided bun a little different, simply because I absolutely stink at parting my hair straight down the middle...One side is always "fatter" than the other...Anywho, I've begun pulling my hair back into a mid height ponytail, secure, section off 2 equal sections then braid the lengths and wrap. This makes a more secure style for me.

Both of these styles should work well w/your hair, and are much easier to do than what they look like!! Trust me! The links I included are what I used to create these styles on myself...Try Claires or Icing for hair sticks; they are pretty inexpensive and run sales all the time...Walmart or K-Mart are other good places to look for inexpensive hair toys...Just inspect the seams to make sure there aren't any jagged edges...THOSE ARE NOT HAIR FRIENDLY AT ALL! :D

Thanks for posting the links to the Chinese Bun. I could not remember the name of the site.

Thank you for your suggestions :) I'd actually found the chinese bun (from this site: http://www.longhairloom.com/stylingstationcentral.html#buns linked out of a figure 8 thread)) a couple days ago and am definitely loving it.

I just tried out the heidi's loop and I really like it too<3 It's casual but not sloppy. Only thing is, since I don't use scrunchies (they're kind of inelegant for me, but maybe someday I'll try making one out of a high-end fabric), I'm just using one of the thicker "ouchless" hair elastics... My ends got a bit snarled when I tucked them in. But I bet I can cure that with practice.

I don't necessarily like scrunchies either; I say that as I'm wearing one today...It's not the "fabric" kind w/elastic sewn in like from the 90's; though...It's the newer kind that come in neutral-ish tones from goody brand I think...They are thicker and stretchier than the thin or even medium ponytails...They are a staple of mine.

I agree, the more practice you do, you will do your dos quicker and they will look nicer...You might have to tweak instructions to suit your hair length and type...You might want to check the "Wear your hair Up challenge thread"...There are many pics posted there that might give you some inspiration...If you see something you don't know how to do, PM the person who did the style...Most ppl are very friendly and very helpful. :flower:

I can do a cinnabon if I use a claw clip to hold it
