I asked this in the shampoo thread, but thought it would be better to just post a new thread about. I came across Apple Valley Natural Soap on the web, and saw that they were selling natural shampoo bars. I haven't seen any posts about them, that doesn't mean their not there, I just didn't see them. Can any one tell me about them, or their products? I could just go ahead and order some, but I have to be more tight fisted with my funds lately, so thats not a venture I can take. I also would like to know if there is any unheard of, or new shampoo bars out there. I know about Karla Moores, Chagrin Valley, Prairielandherbs, Lush, and Serpentine Hair, I just want to hear about new ones, or unusual ones. Your imput is very much wanted.:henny:

*UPDATE*
It has occurred to me that due to the lack of replies/posts, that a majority of people on here may not have even heard of Apple Valley Natural Soap. I have noticed, personally, that the businesses that make good and decent shampoo bars, as a rule ( my rule), make good and decent soaps. So when I ran out of soap, I took the opportunity to order from Apple Valley. I got a Rhassoul and Yoghurt Spa facial bar, which is above par. It made my skin smooth, soft, and so clean, I felt refreshed. And without asking, they sent me three soap samples, Chocolate Almond, Sweet Basil & Tomato, & Chamomile Neroli soap. I tried the Chamomile Neroli because when I smelled it, I fell in love with it. It is a very good soap, it made my skin feel loved and supple. I don't know if they use cold or hot process, but I know that they claim to be 100% natural, and it definitely seemed that way. They have really quick shipping too. So if you want to try something new, check them out.

Thanks for the info; I'd never heard them mentioned, but I checked out their site and their bars look good, and the prices are very reasonable. I'll probably get some samples.

As far as other lesser known shamp. bar makers, I can highly recommend Sweet Creek Herbs, on Etsy. Of the 4 bar makers I've tried, they're the best I've found thus far, and have wonderful customer service.

I just discovered the Apple Valley and I am seriously wanting to try every soap they have to offer, even the MAN bar! lol....I'm glad you like the Rhassoul Spa bar...I want to try that one along with the Acne Battle, Cucumber, and Shea Rose Clay bars. I want to try all the shampoo bars and most of the body bars also! I'm actually thinking of ordering the shampoo bars this week. I'm dying to try the Babassu Shea and the Coconut Milk and Honey!

I got a email from them email from them yesterday, and they are having a sale. I don't remember the exact details, but I think it was something like, buy a product and you get a free bar of there discontinued line of bars, some are just soap, and some are some shampoo bars. I'll probably hit this sale up, because I can't stop myself from those types of things.

Okay, so yesterday, I e-mailed Natalie, maker of the AV soaps and shampoo bars, about sample sizes and whatnot...she told me that although they no longer offer samples to buy, she had some left over that I could purchase for the size of one bar {so I'll be getting 3 samples for 3 dollars}. I'm placing an order tmrw for 3 samples of the following shampoo bars....{rhassoul clay & sea mud, beer & egg, and babassu shea} and also 3 of the complexion bars {acne battle, cucumber, lime, and spirulina, and rhassoul clay spa}, and I'm getting a free full size Cafe Mocha Mint shampoo bar {discontinued}! I'm so excited...I will definitely be back to tell you ladies how the poo bar {which ever one I use first} turns out!

Anyone have reviews of their soaps, poo bars, lip balms, etc...? Their stuff looks really nice.

Okay, I finished using an Apple Valley shampoo bar and just started on another. I tried the A Whole Latte Brunette one, mainly because I like what coffee shampoo bars do for my hair, but I find that the CV version (Cafe Moreno) smells too strongly of other spicy/perfumy things (clove, patchouli, ylang ylang oil). The other bar I tried is the Shea Babassu. The only reason I'm straying from CV bars is that the ones that have ingredients I really want to try are also heavy in the scent department, but their bars are phenomenal and I would recommend them to anyone who doesn't have any scent sensitivity.

So, my thoughts on the two that I've tried.

As far as shampoo bars go, these are okay. They're smaller than CV bars (maybe almost 3 quarters the size), but their prices are reasonable. They lather up really well, I mean thick spongy lather. There is no question that my hair and scalp are clean after I've used it. I do lather and rinse 2-3 times, though.

The Latte, does have some of the perfumy scents in it, but it's not overwhelming or cloying (ie doesn't make me feel headachy). Once rinsed out, the smell is minimal.

Right now, I've just detangled and oiled after using the Babassu Shea bar, and my hair feels really soft but light, and almost thicker/heavier. I'm wondering if it's the silk protein in it. It also feels really moisturized. So far, I like it, I'll be able to get a better idea of how my hair reacts once I'm completely dry. I'm keeping the little sleeve it comes in, so that I'll remember which one it is if I like it.

I haven't had any of the waxy feeling that people will complain about after using a shampoo bar, then again I haven't experienced that with CV bars either. Then again, I made sure to clarify with baking soda before I first tried a shampoo bar and I use ACV rinses after every wash.

Once this bar is done, I'll try the others and check in with my thoughts on those.

I bought some AV samples last month to try. :) I've only used two of them so far, but they seem to be really nice quality. I bought Latte Brunette, Coconut Milk and Citrus, Honey and Hops, and Bella Rose. I also ordered the Wheat and Honey Almond, but they made a mistake with my order and gave me Lavender Buttermilk instead. I didn't really mind, though, since I want to try more of there samples eventually anyway. They also sent me a sample of the Marshmallow and Aloe.

I tried the Honey and Hops and I like the fact that it doesn't have a strong smell. It does seem to add more volume to my hair, but I also have a few more tangles. It has a nice lather.

The other one I've tried is the Bella Rose, which I am totally in love with. :crush: The smell is a bit strong, but it is still natural. I'm not a fan of perfumes and such, but I adore the scent of this and am happy that it lingers in my hair days after drying. Of all of the shampoo bars I've tried so far (I'm also trying Sweet Creek Herbs), this one makes my hair the silkiest and least tangly. I'm definitely considering re-purchasing this one.

I'll be back when I've tried more of them. I can't wait to try the Latte Brunette.

I know this is an old thread, but I just put in my first order for Apple Valley shampoo bars. I ordered the Bella Rose and some other samples that seemed nice: Minted Rose, Chamomile and Orange Blossom, and White China Silk. I've been on a floral fragrance kick lately, so I'm excited for these to come. I have to get through my Chagrin Valley Coconut Milk bar first though. ;)

Could you arrange it with a friend in the states or on the swap boards to let you use their address to ship to and then they could send the bars to you and you could pay the shipping from their place to yours? You'd have to pay double shipping, once to your friend's place and once to yours, but it might be worth it if you really want to try these particular shampoo bars.

Thank you for the advice animetor7!

I'm afraid that it will cost me a fortune to pay twice the shipping costs. I will search the shipping costs first :flower:

Do you know if they are from a better quality than the CV bars? Because this one's I can get here for less shipping costs.

Summergame I've used chagrin valley shampoo bars for a number of years and am very happy with them. I only ordered the apple valley bars this time out of curiosity and to have some new scents to try. :) I haven't tried the apple valley bars yet, but the ingredients lists and the company policies are very comparable as far as quality goes. I'll give a more detailed comparison once I've tried the apple valley bars.
