I store my toys in a shoe box at the moment grouped together in Mei fa bags. All my mei fas in one bag, all the flexis in another and ficarres in another etc. and other toya are in pouches etc.

I need a new system that means I can get what I want quickly and that there is no risk of tarnish or damage to them. I am trying to decide what the best way to do this will be.
I have thought about a crocheted hanger I like the idea of them being on display but worry about dust and extra tarnish to the bronze stuff. The other though was to get one of those mini chest of drawers and decorate it or something.

So how do you store yours? pros? cons?
Photos would be cool. I would love some inspiration. (specially with new babies in the mail:)) TIA.

I have claimed the largest part of the bathroom cabinet, so I have 3 shelves to put stuff on. Evil me :D

Brushes and combs are on shelf 1 (together with shea butter)
Forks are on shelf 2 (together with oils)
Clips and sticks are on shelf 3
Hair ties, pins, barrettes and tiny clips (the small items) are in a small wooden box with 3 compartiments, again on shelf 3

Pro: I know exactly where everything is and I can easily take whatever item I need.
Con: My other bathroom-things (deodorant, shower gel, body mists, creams, body lotion, ...) are behind the hair stuff, so they are less easy to get to (at least, without knocking other bottles over)

I have a hanging on the wall thingie. Layout has changed again (more sticks), but this is what it looks like:

Mine are ehm, everywhere :o some are on the table, some are in a drawer, some are in my handbag, some are in a plastic bag somewhere, some are at my parents' house in a drawer, some are in the bathroom, some are in a hairtoy holder I knitted (I knitted it so I could put all my toys together but I don't like the way it looks, it got all stretched and weird-looking, maybe it was the kind of yarn I used. I might get some better wool and knit another one someday).

I more or less know where everything is, but I'm still looking for a good method to store everything together in one place  . Also, where we're living now, I don't really have enough space to have a little "corner" for my hair stuff. I'm hoping when we move I can have a little area for just my hair accessories (it doesn't have to be big, I don't have that many, but just somewhere where they're not in the way and I can look at all of them and choose which one to wear). I might get some nice vases/glasses to put my sticks in etc.

All my hairtoys are stored in old wooden boxes in my exercise room (hubby calls it the hairtoy room). They all have their own place so I can always find them without looking for a long time.

I have a crocheted hairtoy holder (made by our Hedera) that I use to rotate the toys I use the most and I try to change the toys more often so they get more usage.

I have a few plastic boxes where I store my RonQuattro metal hairtoys but I don't like the practical look of these boxes:o

I have one big ceramic coffee cup for all my sticks, and a smaller cup for ficarres, forks and barrettes. Little things like clips and claws are scattered throughout several drawers in the bedroom and the bathroom. I don't have as many toys as some, but I do have a lot of sticks, and the coffee cup works nicely.

I have my hairsticks in a pretty basket.
My nice pins and clips are in a small jewlery box for hair toys only.
Finally, my two ficcares are in a large coffee mug.

Now things like my scrunchies, elastics, and claw clips are in one of those small plastic containers with drawers. All handy for me to get into.

I don't have that many toys. But, here is how I store my hair supplies:

I got this box for Christmas. Before I was using an over-sized spacemaker. And it was stuffed to the brim!

I have one draw dedicated in bandanas and scrunches (and a few other odds and ends).

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/SycoTrekkie/2008/April102008Upload055.jpg

And the drawer under it is where I store my shampoo, conditioner, etc.

Alas! At present, all of my beautiful hairtoys are securely and safely wrapped up and packed away. When I have them out, tho they all live on a hand crocheted hanger. To keep them dust free, I just swipe my lambswool duster over them as I whiz through my house, dusting. :)

I have small toys that I can use right now, claws and scrunchies and headbands in a basket atop my makeup organizer. :)

I`m using a wodden box with several compartments. Also, I have a ball shaped soapstone, decorated with open-work carvings for my hair sticks.

I sewed a bag two years ago, something like a paintbrush holder, which contains also a comb. It is always in my handbag for work.

Hairtoys are much too pretty to hide in a box. Since I love collecting hand made glass and ceramics bowls, and I use them to keep my hairtoys in - My hairsticks are sticking up in a beautiful ceramic cup I bought in England; my combs are in a ceramic bowl I found in the Canadian Rockies; my barrettes are in a ceramic bowl a friend gave me who does traditional Japanese wood firing; my elastics, scrunchies and other assorted holders are a cloissonne bowl I bought in Thailand, and my brushes sit on a hand painted plate from Turkey. I put these on shelves that are above the toilet. It looks nice and they are in easy reach.

I decided that metal and steam don't really mix. So barrettes, slides, Ficcares, and Flexi8s, and all that sort of thing are stowed in pockets in one of the bottom row organizers here:
http://www.organize.com/bath-jewelry-storage-hanging.html

On the other hand, humidity *is* good for wood, so all the forks live in a plastic can in the bathroom.

I love your pictures, too, joifulnoise. I am thrilled that this thread was started because I have been battling hair accessory overkill and finally fixed it. I had two nice woven type baskets - one large and one small. Now I only have the small one out. I stuff it with scrunchies, a couple headbands, and my flexi-8s. I use a large elastic headband for keeping all of my clips. I just clip about 30-40 on there and it keeps them all lined up. I clip butterfly clips around the sides of the basket, as well as my ficcare. I use cheap beak clips for holding all of my other elastics and clip some to the side. I only have one hairstick, and that goes into the basket as well. The products and hair bottles I don't use go into an empty little trash bin in the bathroom closet. My oils are out with my other "body stuff" and I have aloe vera gel in the bathroom closet and the fridge. Combs are on a little shelf in the bathroom next to the mirror.

My collection is rather small as I rarely do more than the simplest of styles. So everything fits into one of the tiny (10"x11") drawers on my dresser. I ended up lining the drawer with velvet so my barrettes wouldn't slide into each other. When I have a few more toys & need the room, I think my brush, comb & scissors will move into my pajama drawer... but until then this has been working just fine for me.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/Homeschoolmama/hairdrawer.jpg
The tin with my scrunchies in it is a simple coffee tin, covered in scrapbooking paper & decorated to look pretty. It also houses my mini-clips. And my spray bottle lives on top of my dresser with my tiny little jewelry chest so everything is all together for me.

Currently? Two very disorganized wicker-type baskets sitting on the back of the toilet. And assorted places all over the place, including but not limited to my backpack, my purse, a pencil holder on my desk at home, and the pencil holder on my desk at work.

I'd prefer to have something hanging on the back of the door in the bathroom. I have been meaning to start knitting that for a while. :-/

I keep my hair sticks in a wooden box which is originally for storing incense sticks, My mother gave it to me for storing my hair sticks. My barettes, slides and stuff I have in a nice carton box

April 13th, 2008, 04:26 AM
For some years I kept mine very happily in one, and then two, plastic 6 drawer Stanley Pack n' Latch organisers designed for holding woodwork odds and ends - sadly my collection has outgrown the boxes and I haven't been able to find another one, so now the wooden sticks, the Mei Fas and the sticks with toppers from other crafters all live in three mugs beside the boxes and the slides and barrettes have moved out into a pink cardboard box. It's not ideal, because sometimes the cats knock over the mugs, and also it means sometimes the sticks need dusting.

Really cool ideas.
I bought a wooden box really similar to yours melisande at a car boot sale this morning-bargain! it has three drawers top, two middle and one at the bottom. As it's unfinished I am going to decorate it but can't decide wether to use pretty craft papers and varnish or paint...desicions decisions.

Homeschoolmama I think the velvet is a really good idea I will line my drawers to stop my sticks rolling and things getting scratched.

I really like the plastic pocket hangers loads of you have but they don't seem to have much room for sticks and forks. nice to have it all on display though.

My solution has been found but keep adding to the thread though as I am sure it will help others. (and besides you never know how long the storage will last before I need more room lol.)

I use this drawer with a divider (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60106796) in my Ikea wardrobe. I use two of the compartments for sticks (mainly mei fas, so they're small - larger sticks wouldn't fit), and one for ficcares. I don't have that much hair stuff. The other compartments hold my belts.

I have several Rubbermaid mini-towers (http://www.rubbermaid.com/rubbermaid/product/product.jhtml?prodId=HPProd260066) -- in white -- in my bathroom for hair toys, makeup, etc. Each shelf is about 8" long and a couple of inches high, so this works well for sticks and forks. (And, the tops are flat so you don't lose counter space -- just raise it up.)

I also have a behind-the-door hanging thing with small pockets (like the shoe hangers, but smaller) for most odds and ends -- brush, scissors, scrunchies, etc.

And, finally, a pretty rectangular vase on the counter, half filled with flat glass disks, to hold sticks, etc. before they're put away.

No pix. My bathroom is poorly lit.

We got a metal box of chocolate candy for Christmas. I use the emptied box to store my hair stuff on a shelf in the bathroom downstairs. It used to be stored in an empty Pampers baby bottom wipes box, so this is a step up. Upstairs I have a drawer in my bathroom.

Half the time, what I want is in neither place. So really I guess I'd have to stay that my hair stuff is all over the house.

I'm bumping this in case anyone has any more/new ideas or pictures. I'm going out today to Home Goods to look for a vase, I think, if I can't think of anything better. I'd like to display them visibly on my bathroom counter. I'd like to stick the hair sticks in something that wouldn't scratch them, so I don't know about sand or something like that. But maybe foam with holes cut in there. I don't think it would upset my fear of holes problem . . .

I bought myself a large-ish wooden jewellery box which not only looks really nice sitting in my bedroom, but also has plenty of different-sized drawers.

So, I have one drawer for each of the following:

Hair slides to keep my bangs away from my face (tiny drawer)
Hair pins (tiny drawer)
Bobby pins (tiny drawer)

Ficcare Maxima clips (small drawer)
Flexi 8s (small drawer)

Hair comb, old barrettes that I only use for putting my hair up in the shower, metal-less hairbands (medium drawer)
Hair sticks/forks (medium drawer)

I am a very organised person :)

Mwedzi, I'm thinking about using marbles, dry beans or rice to keep the sticks upright in the vase.

I'm using small smooth river rock, but because the rocks are more flat than round, I think I'm not able to put as many sticks in the vase as might be possible if the stabilizer was round.

Thanks for the pictures. wvgemeni, the rocks/marbles, don't damage the sticks at all? That's probably the best option then. I have a couple of the fabric roll ups for my knitting needles and crochet hooks. This time, though, I wanted to prominently display. I think I may have gone a bit overboard.

My smooth river rocks have not damaged my sticks yet. When I created the storage vase, I did sort through the rocks individually to remove any that were less than perfectly smooth.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7353&pictureid=98757 http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7353&pictureid=98758
Hairsticks go in the amber-glass on top of my dresser. The little bowl holds elastics, bobbies & my few metal ponytails. The little drawer is where I keep my barrettes & French bobbies.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7353&pictureid=98759
I lined the drawer in velvet, and made tiny little crocheted bands to clip things in place so they don't slide around when I open/close the drawer. It works REALLY well & keeps everything neat!

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=7353&pictureid=98760
And this is where I keep my bedtime ponies, brushes, combs & sprays on the bathroom sink. I'm trying to find a way to hold my bar shampoos in here too, but so far everything I've tried just makes a gooey mess. This is also my catch-all for hairtoys at bedtime as I have a bad habit of letting my hair down in the bathroom, and just dropping things into the basket instead of putting them away. About once a month I go through my basket & put everything back where it belongs in the bedroom!

I really love the idea of placing hairsticks in containers filled with stones/beans like those used by wvgemini, dajanchen, mwedzi and other fellow hair toy addicts. The way mwedzi decorates hers really blew me out of the water :p

It's really pretty and I'd love to adopt the idea of placing hairsticks in containers but we have lots of creepy crawlies (tropical climate) and I am worried that I will be encouraging spiders to live in there. I did have a non-hair related display piece filled with white pebbles and when I cleared out the vase, I found a lot of baby spiders :shake:

In any case, there are alot of cool ideas from this thread and I am considering using them for other accessories! I'll wait till DH comes back before I ask him about wendyg's jewellery hanger. I used to place my accessories on a cupcake tier thingy to make it accessible because I tend to be a "out of sight, out of mind" kind of person and I end up buying stuff that I keep hidden and forget to use.

So anyway, back to the topic, here is my contribution on toy storage:

http://img196.imageshack.us/i/dsc084271.jpg/
This is the first tier of my hair storage area. It is compartmentalized so I try to group hair toys according to their type, i.e. jaw clips, ficcares, sticks. It comes with a flip-up mirror so if it looks like I have a lot of hair toys, it's only due to the mirrored effect.

http://img834.imageshack.us/i/dsc084291.jpg/
Second tier of my hair storage area. I just chuck bulky items in here - velcro hair rollers, scarves, containers for hair toys, etc.

http://img638.imageshack.us/i/dsc084321.jpg/
And this is how it looks like when I flip it close. I have to give credit to DH for contracting a carpenter to build this for me during our last renovation. He got sick of seeing huge mountains of unidentified mess/objects.

Thanks Yamainu :p I would have been happy with vases for hairsticks but DH is a neat freak (and THAT is an understatement still) so he had this area set aside and he said no more hairtoys unless I learn how to store them properly.

Its initial purpose was for makeup hence the built-in mirror, but since I am more crazy about hairtoys I used the bulk of the space for hair stuff. There's another 2 drawers on each side of the black flip-up counter used to store makeup. They are not noticeable because we wanted all storage space to blend in

Well, I store mine in little square, short glass containers with glass beads inside. I clip ficcares onto my candle holders (still working out a better system for that.) And I have slides and odds and ends in two drawers. Here are some photos.

The whole collection:

Nae, holy smoke! I happened to pick up a large make-up storage case over the weekend, and my five-year-old watched me organize my collection and told me I had too many hair sticks. I should show him yours!

My sweetie keeps telling me he is going to make me a rack storage system to mount on the wall or a stand for my dresser, but I had to get a case in the meantime. My basket was overflowing and was difficult to keep from turning into a jumbled up mess. I do like the idea of having everything on display, but I am also hesitant about ending up with a dusty collection.

I have one of those swiffer duster thingies, it works great. It is getting a little out of hand honestly, especially since there are probably about 15 toys that aren't even pictured there. Sometimes they get left in strategic areas around the house. But I just love them so much!!

This thread just reiterates the feeling that I need more hair sticks. Here is my tiny garden. I keep it in a pot my son painted for Mothers Day last year.

I made all the colored hair sticks, and my dh made all the wood hair sticks :crush:

I started collecting goblets for my hair toys. I fill them with colored marbles and such things that are not sharp or scratchy and stick my sticks in them. I like the way they sparkle in the sunlight of my room. The more fragile ones are in a drawer of my jewelry chest.

Mwedzi, Nae, I love your displays! So many pretty ideas...

Me, I'm on a grad-student budget, so I picked up two cheap ceramic flowerpots from the dollar store, filled them with rice and put my hair-toys there, on my desk; one for metal hair-sticks, one for wooden ones. If I ever have any 'hobby' money left over from buying hair-sticks and beads to make hair-sticks, I might invest in glass marbles too! :D

This is an old pic, but you get the idea...

I freaking love the Dollar Tree. I picked up another little vase and some more glass stones to section off some of my stick collection. I also bought a star shaped heavy bowl for Flexi-8s and this four-sectioned plastic box with cotton swabs and cotton balls in it. I baggied up the contents (travel stuff!) and now have a perfect container for hair bands, bobby pins/spin pins, plastic pins and mini butterfly clips. Woot!

I made a hanging organiser which hangs on the side of my bookcase. My collection's evolved and things have been moved about since the photo was taken, but I still keep brushes and combs in the bottom pocket, scrunchies in the next one up then the upper two are for Ficcares and Flexis. I'm able to tuck some sticks into the pockets - the ones with long dangles which would get in the way otherwise. At the moment I have some little claw grips and decorative hair slides clipped on to the organiser too. I like to pin brooches to it as well.

The Swiss cheese mug :cheese: is for sticks and currently I have a few Flexis draped over the side of it too. The mug's sitting on a little chest of drawers which has all the little things: elastics, pins etc. I do have some boxes next to those drawers but they're empty right now. I keep them around since they often come in handy for packing hairtoys for travel, or shipping any which I sell.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/Angelphie/storage.jpg

The drawers and mug are sitting on top of my bedside cabinet. Inside the cabinet I have some oils and leave-in conditioner, my hairdryer and a few lesser-used hairtoys. Everything else lives in the bathroom.

So I know there's like a ton of these threads on how to store hair toys and I didn't want to start a new one so I found one the longest ones to add this to. I don't remember seeing this solution and figured it would be a nice idea for other folks as well.

I have some Styrofoam steps I glued together originally to hold my hair things. I like it well enough but it's not great. I've always had this idea kicking around in my brain though and finally dragged my sewing machine out to make a rough one of it. It was really fast! I'm sure you could make it by hand as well, it might just take a little longer.

All it is, is a piece of long cloth ribbon folded in half then channels sewn in. Works pretty well and the one I have in this picture is holding 28 hair things. I might make different ones for sticks and forks eventually.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=4743&pictureid=105013

The only thing is that dangly hair sticks and top heavy ones don't balance well. I'm sure I could sew the pockets smaller for them and make it work. I'm not that motivated though and will probably just use a small Styrofoam to hold those types of toys.

I use a 17 inch by 40 inch hanging jewelry holder. It is huge, very sturdy, and is double sided with clear pockets.

It is made by Joan Rivers (she a comedian who sells jewelry). I think it must have been originally sold on the television shopping channel, but I bought it new on ebay.

Each ficcare has it's own pocket. I store smaller things that are similar together in a pocket, and I store groups of sticks or groups of forks together in a pocket with their tops exposed, but the entire hanging holder is in a closet, thus it seems to be dust-free.

I hang it inside on the closet door, which makes one side of it very easy to see, and the other side is not easy to see without turning it around (and it's heavy), so I store the toys I rarely use on the dark side (door side).

I actually keep my toys in my "hair basket" which is just a tall basket that was probably once used as a trash basket. I washed it out before using it for hair toys, obviously lol. I put my lesser used toys on the bottom (seasonal themed toys, headbands, etc.), then a scarf on top of those, and then my most often used toys on top. My claw clips are clipped to the top edges of the basket. Then I keep my bun covers and hair sticks in a pretty celestial cup I got in the housewares section at walmart. The cup was in the bathroom area, so I assume it was expected to be used to hold tooth brushes.

I bought a few display cases that are actually meant for displaying silver spoon collections. They were on clearance at my local craft store. As I said above, they're actually meant for displaying spoons, but they're absolutly perfect for holding hair sticks, and my other hair toys fit in them too. I have the cases sitting on top of the dresser that is in my closet, it works great.

I have a dresser that I use as a beauty stand. I keep jewelry, hair toys and such in the drawers and I have mirrors and hairbrushes on top of it. It is not the kind a beauty dresser where you can sit beside it as we did not have room for that, it is just a normal dresser from Ikea which we have mounted pegs on the side to hold necklaces and such. However I think it works quite well. The dresser is not well organized though, but I am planning to tidy it up.

The Box lid and 1st 2 drawers open to 1" deep storage areas lined in velvet with 15 slots and removable slats so that the Box can be customized to individual preference. Combined, the 3 storage compartments will hold 45 individual sticks, however it will clearly hold more with the slats removed. The bottom drawer for miscellaneous storage is 2" deep and has no slats.

Well, I decided I had to do SOMEthing different for hairstick storage, as my collection has been, er, expanding of late. :o

I wanted something where my sticks could be visible so I don't neglect anyone (out of sight, out of mind), but I'm horrible at dusting and such so I needed something that would keep them covered.

My solution: a straw dispenser!

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b23/ImaHockeyMom/boards/KGrHqVhME1fuiu80BNjkIEfLPw0_1.jpg

There are a lot of different types available, but I went with this type (http://cgi.ebay.com/Prodyne-F-36-Acrylic-Straw-Dispenser-36-Straws-/260759104873#ht_1608wt_1026) because it was cheap (I got mine for under $14 including shipping), it was acrylic instead of glass (I'm a klutz and glass really shatters!), it's tall enough for my sticks (some of them are designed for little cocktail straws that are only 4"-5" tall), and it was classy looking (lots of them have Coca Cola or John Deere tractor designs on them -- doesn't fit my decor at all).

Now when I want a stick, I pick up the lid and lift it halfway out, and my sticks all fan out so I can choose whichever one I'm in the mood for that day. My top-heavy Crisanti sticks go in bottom-first -- just in case I pull the lid up too far, I don't want them to go tumbling over the edge! -- but everything else goes in pointy-side-down.

At some point in the future I could see myself adding more dispensers, but for now my stash is relatively small compared to some LHCers, and I'm able to fit all my sticks in this one dispenser.

Now to figure out something for fork storage.... I don't have nearly as many forks, but I need to figure something out.....

Serious envy here. What a luxuirous way to store all your toys. And I'll say, I didn't realize you had quite this substantial a collection of toys and accessories. But you're making quite substantial use of this armoir. Makes me wonder about everyone else at LHC...we may not all be "addicts' but we still manage to amass *a lot* of items in service of our hair.

I used to sell jewelry and have a bag that I used to store the jewelry in for shows. I bought it as part of the package to start selling this brand of jewelry. It has 5 "jewelry" boxes that stack in it, I use this for my big items and I have a smaller makeup bag that folds and has 4 zippable compartments. I keep my hair ties, small hair jewels, and pins (bobby, amish, and spin) in there.

The biggest storage problem I have is with the antique/vintage hair combs. I've got a few....

The sticks are in these nice soda fountain glasses - short ones for something, mid-sized for something, large for something else (never went to a soda fountain!) - and they are great. They are also depression glass and pretty to look at, particularly with the decorative sticks in them - almost like bouquets.

I have a couple of crocheted hanging storage for the clips and then a few smaller baskets for miscellaneous hair toys that I don't want to put in the crocheted hangers.

Oh, would I love that jewelry armoire!

Last night after I purchased my first small collection of hair toys, I was trying to think up ways to store them to keep them displayed and easy to get to, but safe at the same time. My bathroom can get quite humid, which I know is bad for metal, but I also want my toys within easy reach, and have no mirror in my bedroom (plus bad lighting!). Hmmmm... anyway, I saw an idea with containers filled with pebbles/rice/beads with sticks stuck in them, and am loving that idea, but the ones on this thread are so pretty too. I am definitely going to have to show my fiance some of your collections so he can't ever get mad at me for my small and very reasonable one. :D

As for the moment, I have my three hair sticks, scrunchies, Fakkare, silver comb, bobby pins, some small claw clips, and flowers in a pink patterned Clinique make-up bag. Very un-organized, although I did just clean it out over the weekend.

Looks like I'll be off to the craft store to get a pretty container or two for my new toys, and maybe a mirror for the bedroom so I don't have to be torn about keeping metal toys in the bathroom. Unless people here haven't had a problem with doing that, as in their hair toys don't tarnish/rust? *hopeful look*

I made a toy hanger for my forks and few ficcares. I sewed it from a variety of fabrics and hung it on a hanger. It has multiple pockets of various widths and depths, works wonderfully! I keep my sticks in a mesh metal pencil holder. Maybe I can post a picture sometime. :)

Considering that all I have is a few bobby pins and barrettes I don't have need for a lot of space. I keep my little items in a make up case. I am hoping my hair will grow long enough to be able to use sticks and clips and the like within 6 months to a year so I will think about what storage I will need for the future.

All my practical things are sorted by category in separate drawers in the linen closet. Anything that I use daily or most often are the the bathroom drawer in kitchen utensil organizers. Pretty hair toys that I use the most are in old glass candle votives that I use to put lipsticks and eyeliners I use the most often. Some more hair toys are in my pencil holder on my desk. I also always have one in my purse at all times.

It is really awesome, I love it so much and I hope it never breaks because I have no idea how to get another one. My mum bought it for me about ten years ago, and we don't know who made it.

I only have three flexi8's and one hairstick at the moment, but I've finally begun to properly store them in two jars on the back of the toilet. :) Not worth posting a picture of, but it's decent enough; perhaps in a year, when I have six more toys, I'll post one haha.

Here is a picture of the storage method we use for my hair-things on the bedroom wall of our old apartment.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y163/Princess_Bob/hair/toystorage.jpg
This is currently hanging in the bedroom closet at my new place, which I need to fix, because it faces sideways in there and I never see anything.
It is made from a heavy duty metal trousers hanger clipped onto a 7+ foot rainbow scarf (given to me as a Christmas present years ago by a friend who knows me well and loves me a lot, but was too itchy for me to wear) which has been folded to make a few panels. Some things like head bands and hair ties end up on the belt hook while sticks, pins, forks and flexis are woven through the knit.
I need to find a way to store my Moons in a safe, yet visible place, though. They get little use because they live in a pretty wood box that cannot stay open since Vesuvius thinks Moons are his toys.
This happened once, "Oh, I think I want to wear the maple Moon today... No, put that down, my kitty." Once in a while, Vesuvius even takes a flying leap at the scarf, but so far no harm... so far. :uhh:

I have a whole wall in my closet devoted to hair clips. I run ribbon and tack it in various places, then I put the clips on it. Some hair sticks and odd shaped forks are in shoe boxes wrapped in tissue paper or individual boxes. A lot of my hair sticks are stored in cups.

The downside of the ribbon method is everything is exposed, and it has to have clips to hold to the ribbon. The upside is that I can see all my clips and just pick off the wall.

Wall-mounted vases for my chopsticks and short hairsticks. I have a hanging makeup bag with pockets for my long hairsticks, and one of those over the door shoe holder things for ficcares, forks, clips, etc (I clip 'em to the pockets.) Scarves are draped over the vases, leftover sticks go in cups. Elastics go around various sticks, and spin pins, hair pins, etc, go in a wee plastic storage thing with drawers. Buffs I use to hold up my hair when wet so they are usually drying off somewhere near the bed. Bandannas are often being slept on/played with by cats.

I'm a messy hair toy 'ho. :bounce:

I have a few different places for mine. If I take my toys out during the day I have a hammered metal decorative cup I place them in that is on the side table next to the couch.
In my ensuite i have a deep plate that I put all my sticks and forks on, with my small clips I have them in a matching teacup. It looks quite nice all together.

The reason why I don't just put my hair toys straight in my bathroom is the fact that my townhouse is three stories tall and I'm lazy lol.

Have you guys sewn those wall hanging storage things for hair toys? They are amazing, and that shelf with the sand bowls is so pretty.

This is how I store my hairstick collection. The buckets are from Clas Ohlson and they are a set connected by a bar which can be attached to the wall. I have a few more hairsticks but this is more of them. I need to get another set of these buckets though as this one is pretty full, and I also need some way to store my stick barrettes and regular barrettes as well as clips and scrunchies and the like to get my entire hair toy collection organized.

Venefica - I would recommend anything by Charlaine Harris. Sookie/TB is her only supernatural and/or Gothicy series, but her other books are great! Was going to get a no tarnish silverare chest but its impractical for my current needs so im thinking this - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0057ASJJC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER - for my most used items. I can find it cheaper elsewhere im sure but i like that i can separate my sticks, pins, and combs and keep my most used in the lipstick/brush holder section and tray on top. And a big plus for th neat freak in my its easy to clean!

Right now i have my sticks and combs in an old long pill box and most of the rest in an old makeup box with some decorative combs on a glass plate. I also keep a cute bowl next to my bed to toss things in till they get back to their propper place so i dont lose them. I want a vanity so badly that way all my toys and styling items are right there with a nice seat and mirror.

For the time being, my earrings are stored here too. I have a place to hang them, but I didn't bring it with me when we temporarily moved.

Oh thats even better than mine! Do you know where they bought it? And also do you remember where you got the leaf stick? im in LOVE with it :D.

I finally have my hairtoy arrangment mostly sorted out. It goes in a similar desk organizer in the top shallow drawer of my highboy. The top two drawers are lingere type so they wont fit much else but the organizer fits great.

You're not going to like this! I'm in Taiwan.

I bought the organizer at Carrefour, a French big box store chain. It's a local Taiwanese brand, however, and I can't remember the name or find it on their website anymore.

I bought the stick from a online retailer in Taiwan: http://www.pcstore.com.tw/showtaiwan/M12954300.htm It was very cheap, about $10US, but I don't know if they ship internationally.

I use boxes to store all the sticks. For Ficcare I use a jewelry organizer. Each compartment holds one clip exactly and the zipper make them less exposed to air (metal tarnish very fast in this area). Like this one but mine is brown/olive. http://www.dressbarn.com/detail/hanging-jewelry-organizer-with-zippered-pockets/101400980

I have a crocheted afghan about 36" x 60" hung from a curtain rod attached to the top of the wall next to my dresser. Most of my sticks, forks, Flexis and Ficarres are interwoven in it and can easily be seen anytime. Works perfectly. :happydance: I do have a display box holding 12 LongLocks Sticks on my dresser as well. My antique pieces are in small boxes in my jewelry armoire. My shoulder bag.. in the bottom, loose, are my hair sticks and my straight 6" 2-prong fork [plain one I got on Amazon]. In the front section in an inside side pocket is my upzing!. And in the back section in a side zip pocket are my spin pins, elastics/scrunchie and my curved 4.5" 2-prong fork [came with the other one]. Always handy whenever I need them! :) Along with an assortment of smooth pens which also work for some updos.. :disco:

I put all my small hair decore in a drawer, which is easy to pull out. The rest of the stuff goes in vintage, I don't know what they're called, lipstick holders and pencil holders, best way to describe them. Then my hair combs are all in boxes.
This makes it super easy to access stuff, which I hardly ever do anymore.

Thanks for the link! I like this idea. I usually keep my Ficcares in an air tight proof box, but they are all hidden because I fear it tarnishing from the light and air since a lot of them are silver coated. Do you find the tarnishing faster if you keep it in this container?

Bedroom:
I have a few of those old silver ficcare boxes.
Those are used to store...Ficcares, each is wrapped in bubblewrap and then in the box.
One box for maximas and one for ficcarrissimos, and box for all my Flexi's.
(I need a new one because the flexi's hardly fit in it anymore)
This keeps everything dust free and protected from sunlight.

Bathroom:
Hairsticks are all in a small office box.
Some in their own little boxes in there.
All 60th street forks are in a flat box in which they were shipped.
Each in their own soft pouch too.
All other hairthings, amish pins, elastics etc are in a drawer.

Only my go-to stick and fork for at home (when I clean the house etc) are out all the time.
It shows, they are both dymondwood and have discoloured quit a lot!!
They lay besides my comb and brush on the bathroomcounter.

Seeing everyone's storage solutions makes me cringe when I think of how mine are all shoved in a plastic bin in a drawer in my bathroom. We're getting ready to remodel the bathroom which means I'll be reorganizing everything in the vanity. That should be the perfect time to come up with a new way to organize my hair accessories.

I have to have mine where I can see them. I have three containers with dried beans for sticks and forks.
However, if you have blue or purple dymondwood, you will eventually have grey dymondwood.

I did just order this for travel:
https://www.etsy.com/transaction/159999266?ref=fb2_tnx_title

And thanks to enablers, I also got a glass straw dispenser to use with my glass straws.

Depends on what size you get (ie. small, medium, large, or extra large organizer) and how many fork/stick/moon/ficcare etc you have. If your forks are all wide, you'll have fewer pockets than an oragnizer soley for hair sticks. :)

I use one of those, for, gasp, paint brushes.
Mine gets put in an overstuffed back pack, dropped, tossed around by baggage handlers (painting gigs are my only exception to my one bag rule), water spilled on it, and after seven years, it's still going strong, except I replaced the original elastic ties.

Great choice, Emi!

Right now my hair sticks are in a glass jar that I got at the craft store. All my pins are in a little wooden bowl that a friend made, and that's about it.

I'm in the process of setting up a vanity area in the other half of my walk-in closet (I don't have room for it anywhere else, and stuff can be protected from sunlight in there). I'd like to try making my own hanging organizer since I have some cute cotton prints that I need to use up. :D

Wooden forks and sticks, Flexi-8s, and Ficcares are stored in little fabric bags inside a basket in a drawer I've annexed in my husband's dresser, when they're properly put away. Most of the time, whatever I've worn recently is in a glass jar on my dresser with the acrylic and metal sticks.

Amish pins and a couple of fancy bobby pins live in a glass box with my rings.

Claw clips (what? I use em for pre-henna sectioning!) and ties go in another basket in the same drawer. I keep at least one big claw in the shower for non-wash days.

There is also a metal box of communal hair ties on my bookshelf; my kids and husband are all longhairs.

I made a hanging holder with pockets and that's where I keep all my forks (antler, woods, dymondwoods and acrylic) and my thicker sticks like LadyIduns and Eauduard sticks. The holder is attached to a hanger on which my ficcare clips are clipped and my knee ficcare headband. I have a mesh pencil holder in which my hairsticks are in (it's pretty full). I have 3 different zip pouches that I've made. In one I have all my Quattro pieces, another all my flexi-8's and miscellaneous pins and the other holds my spin pins and other miscellaneous pins. This does not count all my bobby pins or hair ties. :D

Ha! Treblebolt, I use one conditioner with a pump and it always has at least one elastic around it. Max of, oh, nine.

I also have a mini carabiner keychain with a few. I don't use the car much, and leaving them in a hot car shortens their useful life.

They are supposed to be on their original card. If they stretch out too much to stay on it at all, they are done.

I wash them because my partner works in an environment with agricultural chemicals. He treats sick trees, and some application methods have minor blow back, but then he sweats, so it's all grotty.

enough room behind the doors for perfume, deodorant alike and a small wicker basket for slide barrette and alike
head bands with scarves as i use either in my hair
maybe this will give some of you ideas

I needed some way of storing my forks, got tired of tossing them in my dresser drawer to slide around. I wanted a way to store them upright on my dresser. After much searching on Amazon found this, it's for earrings, but it works fine for my forks. It only has room enough for my favorites, the less loved ones are still in the drawer.:D
