Forgive me if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn't find anything.
How have your shower habits changed as your hair has gotten longer? I know this sounds a bit odd, but now that my hair is almost BSL I find myself having trouble keeping my hair out of the way. I try my best to keep it out of my acne wash (salicylic acid!) and my shaving cream, but it slides around and gets covered in all sorts of products. I guess it's just weird to me as I haven't had long hair in quite awhile.

Yeah, when I was growing my hair back out after cutting it to somewhere around shoulder/neck/chin (jeez, I really don't remember), I wound up bringing a plastic clip into the shower with me to clip my hair out of the way while I used all sorts of products. Lately my hair is long enough to tie into a knot in the shower without having to use a clip, so that's what I do while I scrub down and let the conditioner soak in.

I simply wet my hair down completely when I'm in the shower and slick it all back when I'm using shower gel and washing the rest of my body. I leave my hair alone when I'm washing the rest of my body, and since I CO rinse every night it is perfectly convenient for me to of course get it wet every time I shower. I never wear my hair up in the shower, I rinse it every night right along with washing the rest of my body.

The last time I had very long hair (I think it was bra strap length) I had to keep it back alot because I would get toothpaste it it quite frequently and sometimes it would end up wrapped around a tooth or something like that. I also had problems keeping it in the car window and would occasionally buzz the window up with my hair sticking out the window. eeep!

Sure, I've been braiding my hair after I condition since it was BSL. Keeps it behind me and out of the way.

I've been struggling with the same thing lately on days when I co wash. I'll probably start bringing something to tie it up into the shower with me but for now I've been flipping it over (in front) of one shoulder while I wash or shave the opposite side

If I'm doing a heavy conditioning I will bring a large clip in with me and use that, but otherwise I just flip it over my shoulder.

I either use a hair claw or a showercap and just stuff my hair up in it.

It gets in my way, so I put it up. Just leaving it down my back doesn't work, since I like to scrub my back, and it tends to crawl into my armpits when I am trying to shave and fall into my face when I am washing it. I usually shampoo it, put conditioner in, then throw it into a bun on the very top of my head to do everything else, rinse upside-down afterwards.

I used to just flip it over my shoulder and it would pretty much stay where I put it, but I've started putting it up with a clip in the interest of making sure it stays far away from the rest of my soap and stuff. It's making the whole process quite a bit smoother!

I just wear a shower cap if I'm showering but not washing my hair, and wear a plastic hair clip if I am washing my hair but want it out of the way for a moment.
For sink things such as washing my face or brushing my teeth, my hair is always in a bun anyway so I never have to worry about it getting in the way.

I wash my hair first and then wrap a towel around it and my head and then continue washing the rest of me.

Hehe. Oh yes, my hair showering habits have changed quite a bit. When I had was maintaining waist-length hair, I had no problem either a) tossing it behind me and forgetting about it, as my hair is pretty heavy when wet or b) sticking it up in a shower cap.
Now that my hair is roughly...well...mid-butt length, hehe...I have to take a plastic hair clip in the shower with me, and I'll alternate having it up in a bun while I'm waiting for the conditioning step to be over with, and having it down, over my shoulder, where it's in front of me and can make sure my shampoo is being rinsed down the length (I don't "lather" the length, really, unless I fell into a puddle of mud, haha). I also can't seem to properly keep it in a shower cap anymore...I think my length rebels and tries to pull the thing off, hehe.

I can usually just put it out of the way, but I do like to put it up when it's full of conditioner, to keep the condish off the rest of me, and to keep it in my hair, and particularly on my ends, for longer.
Edit: as for days when I'm not washing it, I just put it up in a high-up bun. I get the hairline a little damp when I'm washing my face, but that's it.

I put rhassoul clay into hair to clean it, with the clay still in I knot my length to keep it out of the way for the rest of my shower rituals. When I'm finished I unknot and rinse the clay out.

Mine's to the point where the knot even gets in stuff, so I twist mine up into my standard bun and I'm good to go :) It doesn't need any pins if I'm not leaving it in for long, hehe :)

I've almost always had long hair, so my habits haven't changed much at all over the years. However, I find my hair quite easy to deal with in the shower. When I wash my back, I put my hair over the shoulder and wash and rinse my back. Then I lift my hair up and wash and rinse my neck. My hair then goes back behind me and I wash the rest of me as usual. Sometimes it falls in my way while shaving, as I shave my legs standing up. But when it happens, I just brush it out of the way with a clean hand.

I tie mine up with a scrunchie thingy and wash myself, then shampoo and condition my hair and tie it up again. It stays out of the way.:)
ETA: If I don't think my hair needs to be washed I tie it up and wrap a towel around it to keep it fairly dry. I don't like to use a shower cap because it makes my head feel sweaty.

If I'm not washing my hair and I'm just washing "me", I'll claw clip it up and out of the way. I don't worry about things like shave gel getting in it. That will rinse out and it won't be on my hair long enough to worry about it doing any harm. When I'm shaving arms and pits, I move my hair to the opposite side.

While in the shower the other day I was thinking about this. What am I going to do when it's BsL? I'll have to invest in some NON pulling hair clip that doesn't hurt in my wet hair, or pinch or pull it the wrong way. Nothing irritates me more. I thought I could pin in up dry, and wash it last, but generally I wash it first so the conditioner can really sit in. I guess when my hair finally gets long I'll figure my own way to handle it. :) It's interesting to hear others' methods though! :)

Usually I either toss it over my shoulder, hold it with one hand, or wrap it around my neck like a scarf.
Otherwise I just let it hang. Biggest problem--OMG this is gross and so TMI--is making sure I wash my bum before I let my hair down to be washed (esp. at certain times of the month). It tends to, uh, gravitate toward that area for some reason...and you know how wet hair likes to stick to your skin in the shower (which also becomes a problem if I'm flipping from in front of my shoulder to the back...I end up with strands stuck all the way around my waist and I have to peel them off).

I learned to wear my hair like a scarf and pull it forward to condition it. Beyond that... not much has changed.
If I'm using some sort of face scrub/wash that I don't want in my hair I leave my hair up before getting into the shower.

My hair will normally just stick to my back after I wet it and I let it just hang down. BUT, one time when I was shaving my armpits, I noticed a strand of about 5 or so hairs that I accidentally shaved off! They had somehow gotten looped up under my arm and I didn't see them until I had already swiped with the razor. I'm a lot more careful now. I really should take a plastic clip into the shower with me.

I brush my hair before showering so it is relatively tangle-free before it gets wet, and I shampoo and condition daily when I shower.
I just leave my hair hanging down my back when I wet it, and only actually shampoo my scalp; the rest of my hair just goes along for the free ride.
After rinsing out the shampoo, I apply conditioner the full length, and leave the conditioner in while washing my skin and shaving legs and armpits.
The entire time my hair is hanging straight down, only being moved aside when I am washing my back, or when shaving my underarms.
My daughter who has been on this forum longer than I have is sure my hair is oily because I do shampoo it daily, I feel I can't skip a day simply because it does get so oily :::shrug::: so it continues.
But bottom line is, whether shampooing or not, I don't see getting my hair wet as something to be avoided of concern for tangles, because I carefully avoid tangling it up in the shower.

I usually wash my scalp first with shampoo, squeeze out water, slather on conditioner, and then pop it up in a bun with a hair tie that lives on my over-the-shower-caddy-thing. It stays in the hair tie while I do my other stuff, that way my conditioner has a minute or two to soak in, and it doesn't get in my way.
Then I take down my hair, comb it a bit, and rinse. The hair tie is really the only 'new' thing. I generally wash my hair every time I shower.

I tried tying my hair in a knot due to this thread! I don't have enough length for the knot to stay, especially when it's slathered in conditioner, but I think it might a few inches from now. I'm actually really excited!

I also use a scrunchie or a shower cap, but I do take care that my hair isn't around any face creams or soaps. :)

Oh, mine won't stay if I just put it in a simple overhand knot... like the "bunnytail"? Yeah that slides right out. Not sure if that's what you were talking about, but I wondered if you had ever tried tying that knot without pulling the tail all the way through?
I just did a Google search on knot tying to see if I could find the name of the knot... it's called a "Simple Noose", according to this (http://www.realknots.com/knots/noose.htm) website.
I find that the loop sort of acts as an anchor and holds the knot in place.
 But your hair still could be too long... At this point, I'm left with a couple of inches peeking out from underneath the knot, if I pull them through with the loop it no longer holds.
And I'm sure by reading the above it's apparent that I shouldn't be writing directions for hairstyles... I'm awful at descriptions!

I used to wash it everytime I took a shower.
Now I use a showercap or put it up with a cheap hairstick in a messy knot when I don't want it to get wet. When my hair is wet, I just toss it behind me and it stops getting in my way. It's pretty heavy and kinda sticks to my back when it's soaked with water :D

I wash less frequently now and use more natural stuff and oil treatments. Also, I do not brush or put up untill it is dry.

I keep a claw clip in the shower just for this. If it is a CWC day I put it up in the clip for the last C and leave it up until the very last and then rinse. Otherwise, I just use the claw clip and a shower cap to keep it out of the way. At the sink, my hair is usually in a bun, but if not, I have a towel head band that I slip on that keeps my hair out of the way of toothpaste and my face wash.

I keep mine in a turbie-type towel. I have three turbie-type towels so I can have one for keeping the dry hair up in the shower and another for using for wet hair (and a third for backup!)

I use a claw clip. The multi turbie towel idea though has me thinking about trying them out. I usually put my hair up in a microfibre towel to absorb the water anyway. I bought a couple really large towels for camping because they absorb water so well, and then started using them on my hair. The turbie towels are made out of microfibre, aren't they? It seems like that might be the best way to go for the OP to totally protect her hair from any products she doesn't want getting on her hair.

I braid mine once ive conditioned it, I have just 2" to go until waist and found the nearer to waist I go the more it gets in the way!

Yes, a plastic clip or stick to keep it back while you are working with other products is best. Frankly, sometimes tending to my hair can be tedious and I bought a little shower stool so I can sit and pay it attention when I need to (Japanese style). I've started exercising more recently so my roots get all sweaty and then I have to rinse which leaves my hair wet all day (since it takes all day to dry) and I'm not sure how to get around having wet hair all the time.

My hair is definitely not long enough to get in the way of anything in the shower or anywhere for that matter but it is growing and it's hitting different parts of my back now in the shower and sometimes hits my armpit. Not at APL yet though. It's exciting :]

You might want to check out the article on doing a scalp wash (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=85) which allows you to just wash your scalp, while leaving most of your length dry. I've never attempted it, but I can see how it would be very handy for longer lengths.

Starting at APL I bunned it during the "soaking" phase of CO and while I was doing other showerly things. I find that if I leave it loose over my shoulder a lot of conditioner gets rinsed out and doesn't have a chance to soak in as much. When I'm not washing my hair, it gets bunned in a high cinnabun, held with a couple small claw clips. When it was shorter I just washed it every day.
