Hello all. :)

I found this forum while doing a search for hard water hair issues (which I'm surprised isn't a bigger issue these days amongst long hair sporters).

I'm looking forward to participating and learning a new way to take care of my hair. Right now I have a chunck missing from the back of my hair that I just need to be patient about, I guess.

I've been growing my hair long forever and have actually reached my goals many times. I've never had a problem like this before where my hair just broke off from hard water damage (my hair actually liked NYC water much better than country well water), but I have since added an Aquasana shower head filter and the difference it has made has been amazing.

Ug. I have the hard water problem here in Aurora, Colorado. I've put in a filter, but we've only had it a few months and it's no longer working. I'm going to try the Miracle Water from one of the posts on this site. (That's how I found this site by looking for hard water problems, too).
Good luck.

Guilty, Your honor! :o

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks.

talervo, I've felt your pain... good luck with your hard water. I have also been using Ion's Hard Water Shampoo & Hard Water Conditioner.

Aha! So that's what could be ruining my hair....and I blamed my hairdresser. It's time to get a whole house water filter. Our town switched to mostly well water over the past few years. So far our dishwasher went kaput and so have several faucets....and obviously my hair.

Hi Shiva.

Hi Tovah.

It took me about 2 years to finally figure out the water problem as my hair is virgin and I never put it under any chemical stress (good bye big hair perming days from the 80's!) I don't dye (although my mom wants to dye my grays I don't want to get wrapped up in that dependency).

I have noticed that my pool water is getting harder and harder to balance as well these past few years. Something as simple as water was ruining my hair and my mom is my hairdresser and she would never cut my hair like that! I was ready to spend the $$ on a whole house water softner, but thought I would try a shower head filter first... so far, so good. I noticed a difference in my skin and hair right away.
I would just like to get my hair back to this length and healthy and I will be a happy camper:
