View Full Version : Grey Hair

I haz it.
And I'm 18.
That just means I'm extra wise right?

I knew I'd go grey early, but STILL. I've noticed it for some time but never really thought about it....untill I looked in the mirror today and noticed a good two inches worth of silver/blonde hair, and right at the roots it's even more grey.

I like grey hair, just not this young. I could dye it for awhile but chemicals FRY my hair something awful. I could use something natural like henna, but I've always been blonde and like it too much to go any other colour. I don't think there is a natural blonde dye other then honey, which doesn't work very well. Plus I'm broke.

I have seen women with long grey hair and looks BEAUTIFUL. But that was on people 45 and older. Anyone is their 20's and 30's I've seen with grey hair it usually ages them atleast 15 years.
Anyone remember Taylor Hicks from American Idol? I believe he was in his late 20's, and looked like he was in his mid 40's.

Does anyone have pictures of their grey hair, espcially if they are younger? It might help me be more comfortable letting my hair go grey.

I don't believe it's a slow change either, it seems to hit fast in my family. Judging by the current growth, I can expect completly grey roots probably in the next year or two.

I also started having grays when I was 18, now I'm 20 and I have like 15 gray hairs, I usually hide them, at one point I got angry and cut them off, but they don't bother me anymore. Anyhow, when their number will multiply in avalanche :D I will probably dye my hair, hmm...but till then I'm just enjoying my hair as it is, who knows, maybe I will give up the idea of dying. I don't have any pics unfortunately.
I suggest you to enjoy your hair now, today, this moment, and think about dying or not dying when your grays will be really visible! :)

Nightshade has an excellent article on herbal haircolor here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=2) if you'd like to give it a try. I can't vouch for any of them personally, but some of the stuff in the blond section is supposed to make greys look blond.

It's all about what makes you happy hair-wise. If you don't want grey hair, don't put up with it!

Cassia is said to give a blonde tint to hair, and a deposit only color would work well without being damaging. I have silvery blonde hair, and well, it looks grayish. Just condition it VERY WELL and it won't look like what most people think of as gray hair. Instead, it will look like my hair, esp with a Cassia/Honey rinse, so that in some lights it's not gray at all.

I have dark blonde hair, and I have had pure silver bits for years. A few strands here and there at first, now they're mingled in everywhere and I have an actual stripe now in the front.

My father was also a blondie, and was turning silver at 18 too. (Knowing this, the first thing I did on my 18th birthday was check my hair very closely in the mirror....silly, I know.) Anyway, my father is very handsome and distinguished with a full head of gorgeous silver waves.

Here's an upclose shot of my hair where you can see some silver strands amidst the rest (look to the left of the butterfly).....

Here is another shot, harder to see, but you can see the silver stripe coming over the top of my head, and through the middle of the Flexi8 barrette.......

Everyone has their own comfort level with going grey/silver. I embrace every silver I have....if I woke up tomorrow with all-silver hair, I'd be ecstatic, but that's just me. ;)

I noticed my first gray in my very early 20's. I started to dye it but I've since been dye free for almost a year this August and I'm not ashamed of them like I may have once been. I love my silvers.

Here is a pic of mine taken in February.

My dear ex-roommate has blonde hair and a gray patch she has had all her life from a birth mark. She colors pretty regularly with a color very close to her natural one. The gray does not get covered well even though she concentrates on that one area. I think it must be the resilience of the gray hair.

I can see how going gray young can be hard to handle but really I would rather have healthy, pretty gray hair than damaged hair. Plus you never know, the gray could come in slower than you think.

She is striking with silver, and is also obviously young: http://www.flickr.com/photos/iselknits/2072129816/. I've also seen some cool silver streaks in young people's hair.

If you don't like the look of the silvers on yourself, you could try cassia. Lynnala used cassia to turn her silvers blonde for a while. (She's back to silver, now.)
