Right now, my hair is really dark brown, and it looks pretty much black inside, but in the sun you can see that is certainly NOT black. What colour would henna give me? Would my hair look red at all or, because of the darkness, would nothing happen? By the way, what happens to black hair that is treat with henna? And are there ANY natural ways to lighten the hair a bit, before I henna? Thanks!

It should look red in the sun and normal indoors. I started with mid-brown hair, and even so the red isn't very visible in artificial light. Everyone can tell I've dyed in the sun, though. Do a strand test and see what happens.

My hair is a dark brown and now it is a darker brown with red highlights in the sun. I call it Cherry Cola.

They guy who sells me my henna told me, when I asked him the same question, that you can't exactly tell what color you will get, because it doesn't only depend on your virgin hair color, but also on the thcikness of your individual hairs and how good they're moisturized.

You can lighten your hair first with honey treatments - see my recent postings in the Honey Thread.

I don't know about lightening, but I just henna'd a family member with dark brown hair. We've only done it once so far and her hair looks like dark mahogany. Indoors you can see the red if she's near the light and outdoors you can definitely see the red in her hair. I explained to her that if we do it one or two more times, it will look even more red, but like redder mahogany.

I have very dark hair with some whites- my whites are red highlights, in MOST indoor light thats all you see.. my darks don't show except in very direct bright light.. outside I have what looks like almost burgundy hair in the sun. there is a lot of sun flare and I love the look as well as the textural changes and condition changes that have happened to my hair.

It will most likely look really good! I love henna on darker hair, and am somewhat jealous--you all can henna more often with less risk of getting too dark. It will probably continue to be brownish black, but with a reddish glow in the sun, or it could push you to a darker mahogany with faint burgundy tints.... it depends. Strand test first, and show us pics later! :)
