View Full Version : My 3 yr LHC anniversary -- new length pic

I think my hair is just about as long as I want it to be now. It feels a bit odd to think in terms of maintaining rather than growing now.

This pic is from today:

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n29/hardercy/3rdanniversarylength.jpg

and today also in a half-up:

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n29/hardercy/3rdanniversaryhalfupwithGoldie.jpg

This was my first LHC hair pic from 9-06 along with my dog Goldie, I had probably already been growing out from a pixie for maybe 18 mos or so.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n29/hardercy/hair9-17resize.jpg

I've always been afraid to try a self-trim, but a couple of nights ago I tried a teensy-tiny trim and nothing terrible happened, so I may work on that.

Thanks, LittleOrca -- I love ocean themed things. I found the hair clip online, all hand enameled by an artist, but I can't find her site any longer.

Well, it's not quite TB yet, but I still think I'm fairly satisfied with the length as it is. I noticed a big difference in how it feels as I grew past waist, it feels more in the way when down, so I've probably got enough.

Thanks, bigdreamer! You've got some lovely waves going on yourself!

First of all, Happy Anniversary! Speaking as someone relatively new here, I must say that those pictures are a complete inspiration to me.

Second of all...oh...my...goodness...your hair is beautiful!!! The color, the texture, the lush, thick ends! It's so impressive, and yeah...if I were a poet, I'm sure I could have come up with a million flattering compliments that you would rightly deserve. Alas...I can only hope that the proper amounts of ooooh-ing and aaaaah-ing is being portrayed, hehe!

Keep doing whatever you are doing, because your hair is fantastic!

Haha, I think you should be writing romance novels! Seriously, I'm pretty low-maintenance with hair care. I think gentle handling may do the most good. Usually, I just wash with diluted shampoo and condition about 2x a week. I have an over large assortment of bottles in my cabinet that I'm trying to use up. If I find myself looking a bit frazzled, I might remember to use a bit of oil or do an SMT.

Beautiful hair, and you match your golden well! ;)

Thanks!

Happy Anniversary Cindy! :flowers:

Thanks, paper and Chrissy! The length just suddenly felt "right" to me, though it seems kind of radical to switch from the "growing longer" mode I've been in for a few years!

Beautiful! So smooth and even, too -- the tiny self-trim went well.

Happy maintaining!

Thanks again! I've been nervous about trying that, but I really hate to spend the full price of a haircut for a tiny trim, especially when I go in with just washed hair, and that little trim is all I want. I thought it was kind of amazing how all the bulk of your hair just comes down to that small bundle at the end that you trim. (I tried the straight across Feye's method).

It's 3 years since I joined LHC : ) -- but I started growing out in the spring of '05, so it took a little longer than that! I had a few significant trims along the way to lose the layers, though I'm not a real frequent trimmer.

Your hair is really pretty--and matches your doggie, minus the white. I'm not a dog fan...okay, that's not true, I don't admit to being a dog fan (my cat would eat me), but I have a soft spot for goldens. :D

The barrette is also pretty.

Thanks everyone for the lovely hair and barrette comments!

I've collected a zillion barrettes (maybe a slight exaggeration) but people always seem to notice the one in the pic.

GlassEyes, I'm a cat and a dog fan, love them both.

Angel, hope we'll meet up again at a MI meet!

I noticed your picture earlier before I saw this thread and thought your hair looks stunning. Did you get professional trims within the past 3 years since growing out your pixie or trim-less? well done!!

Thanks! I did get trims -- when I started growing out I continued my regular visits to the hair guy, but it soon became obvious that I wasn't getting anywhere very fast! So, I stopped trimming for 13 months. After that, I would go every 6 mos or so. There were a couple of trims where I would trim up to the next layer, so losing a couple of inches at a time. I really just went by the look and feel of it to judge when I felt it was needed. Just before my mini trim the other night, I had not trimmed since I went to the salon in early Dec.

Well, your hair is absolutely gorgeous. I think I could happily maintain at the length you've achieved. Good luck with the self trims. I've cut my own hair for years. The one tip I would give is trim waaaaaay less than you think you want trimmed at first. That way if you make a mistake you have plenty of wiggle room to fix it. And if you're lucky enough to get it right the first time but you just need it shorter then it will give you more practice in trimming.

I prefer to trim a bit on one day and then wait a while to see how that works out for me before deciding if I need to trim more. Of course I'm still in the 'growing' phase so I can't afford to lose much hair right now anyway.

Holy cr@pola!
You have the hair I want! Lengthwise, anyway (my waves aren't going to straighten out just like that)

I'd say you could safely change your current length to "hip" - you're well past waist.

Sooo beautiful!!! I also like your matching doggie. :) Great accesorizing choice.

Who knows? Maybe I did choose her because she matched. I sure wasn't prepared for a wild Golden puppy when I brought her home almost 13 years ago, but she's a very good girl now!

Thanks for the comments and the trim advice! I've been too afraid up to now to try the self trim -- trust me, it was a tiny one! I really would like to be able to confidently and comfortably do self trims.
