Stupid question - but, does taking the hair vitamins and biotin etc work on just your scalp hair, or all the hair on your body?

No question is stupid if you dont know the answer to it. But the answer to your question is that taking biotin just affects the growth rate on your scalp hair.:)

One thing to note, if you're deficient in a vitamin, your body hair will be growing slower. However, it might mean if you remove hair, you'll have to shave daily as opposed to once a month or less.

I had visions of turning into Chewbacca!
Gelatin? How does that work? And how do you take it?

with biotin my hair grew ALL over my body, faster  it was not so fun. It also gave me extreme headaches and made me break out disgustingly. So I stopped taking it. The very tiny amount it helped me wasn't worth all the hassle.

I have taken 5,000 mcg of Biotin everyday since January 2009. My scalp hair is growing in healthy and fast and my fingernails and toenails are really nice even though I work outside. My body hair is the same as it was before. However, I would imagine that if precise measurements of my body hair would have been taken prior to January 2009, it might have shown increased growth since then, but it is not evident to the naked eye. I do not see how biotin can be selective for only scalp hair.

Re: gelatin
I normally 'take' gelatin in its most delicious form--Jell-o! My mother swore by this one as a nurse who had to wash her hands a zillion times a day for keeping her nails strong. Whenever my nails get breaky, I have Jell-o for dessert a couple of nights a week and a few weeks later, my nails are scary-hard! Don't know if it works for hair that way. (So, sorry if I hijacked the thread--I'm really overtired *and* insomniac tonight and surfing LHC--a bad combo!)

I take almost everything I've read of for hair (prenatals, biotin, folic acid, MSM, garlic, and fish oils) and do not notice my body hair growing any thicker or faster than normal, although I do see a difference in my head hair growth. :)

I just started taking b vitamins in addition to my multivitamin (on the advice of my doctor after I complained about fatigue and hair shedding). They are not specifically hair vitamins.
I've only been taking them a few weeks, but I already have noticed my nails look better (they were splitting before). It's too soon to tell for my head hair, but OMG my eyebrows are growing in at a tremendous rate - not longer hair (thankfully), but I have to pluck them way more often. I haven't noticed any other body hair growing more quickly, but I shave almost every day.

All my hair is growing faster but not thicker or longer. Any body hair at terminal is the same and any others I remove anyway.
ETA: Obviously my scalp hair is growing longer, I mean just the terminals aren't increasing.

For me it did, but I honestly don’t care if I shave away m-hair instead of f-hair

I've never noticed a direct correlation between vitamins and my body hair. My hair all over grows fast anyway, and always has. I've only just in the past couple of years taken anything containing biotin, and I haven't even noticed that the hair on my head is growing any faster.
