View Full Version : Fan-bun video

I made a video of my fan-bun (because it looks like an upside down folded fan)...which was created during trying out the Dementia's D bun :)
It's really comfortable and secure....and looks elegant too!
A bit of a victorian touch perhaps.

Hope you like it!

Is Rosette-bun a better name?

Ohhhh I love it! :D

Gorgeous ! It looks really elegant indeed,
You could spice it up some by adding decorative pins in the bun part, or braiding ribbons in the braids.

July 8th, 2009, 07:21 AM
Ohhh I like this! What kind of pins did you use?

eresh
July 8th, 2009, 07:23 AM
I used 3" amishpins, but shorter ones would be better, they were sticking out ;)

Niphredil, yes, some sparkly pins or a flower, or little butterflyclips...
I don't have any (really? yes really!)
Going to buy some soon :D

Great job. I will have to grow some more hair for this style. :)

Oh my goodness...your hair is so gorgeous, as is the bun. I can't wait until my hair is long enough for me to do something so elaborate! Thank you for the inspiration.

July 8th, 2009, 07:39 AM
I'm glad you like it :)

I made it with wet hair so it would be frizz-free longer ;)

Amazing! :) Maybe I can try it in ten years or so... ;)

Eresh, that's beautiful. I don't have nearly enough hair for that, but it's really nice.

I really need to get me some amishpins... <sigh>
This would probably work with Good Days hairpins.

Looks just like the victorian-style updo only better for longer hair. Awesome!

I love it!! Thanks for sharing. :flower: This actually looks like something I could get away with wearing, and seems to be fairly easy to do. :D

I tried it with my silly excuse for long hair. Next time shorter braids, longer rope, but here it is, my attempt:

http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/4184/step1.th.jpg (http://img212.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step1.jpg) http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/5585/step2x.th.jpg (http://img212.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step2x.jpg) http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/8592/step3o.th.jpg (http://img269.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step3o.jpg) http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/8312/step4.th.jpg (http://img212.imageshack.us/my.php?image=step4.jpg)

And the end result:

Now you can't say your hair isn't so long yet anymore! You can do this style that is clearly working on long hair only :)
*yup, mine is both too short and too layered to even attempt it*

eadwine
July 8th, 2009, 08:43 AM
Hehe thanks!!

Mind you.. this is a THREE braid one, not a five. I didn't want to braid 6 strands of hair per braid.

That looks amazing! I think I may practise it and if I can get it to look good perhaps do my hair like that for my sister's wedding, with my new Bijoux-Manoel pins in the bun

Eresh, thanks so much for making this lovely tutorial. Wow, what an amazing hairstyle!!! Maybe some day I'll have length enough to try it. Eadwine, nice rendition!

July 8th, 2009, 09:22 AM
I just tried it with only ropebraids :-)
Pics added in the original post

I think with BSL+ length you can make this bun, just find the right balance between the first and the second part of the tail.

Niphredil
July 8th, 2009, 09:30 AM
Ohboy, the ropebraid version is even more stunning !!

eadwine

Do note.. BSL+ with my thickness or less. Any thicker and it's maybe not possible anymore.

That rope braided version is gorgeous!

Yes you do. My hair is thicker than yours AND shorter and I can do it, so you must be able to pull this one off. :)

Stunning! I cannot imagine making such a bun, I have enough hair for *one* slim braid. Unfortunately it would not be as thick as any one of yours. :(

What a stunning updo! I agree that it has a very Victorian look to it, or at least a nineteenth century look. It's one of those hairstyles that fills me with awe over the hair's length and style's complex appearance. I can't wait until my hair is long enough to do it like yours! My hair is about as long as that 2nd elastic you used to hold the five braids together.

eternallyverdan
July 9th, 2009, 12:31 AM
Just tried this one and I really like it-- it looks very Victorian and complicated. I did mine with 4 braids at the bottom because I fail at dividing things into fifths. I think I'll do the fan part a bit bigger next time, and leave the bun a bit smaller.

Oh wow I love this style, :D
I can't wait until my hair is long enough to do it

It is long enough.. trust me! -I- can do it even, and I am not even waist yet.

I just tried with only ropes. One thing to keep in mind when you have a shorter fan part is to keep the ropes fairly tightly roped, so don't curl them around each other loosely, that is what I mean. If you do that you will look like you have random spaghetti hanging down there.

Would the be a better name?
Or is that already in use as a name for a bun?
