View Full Version : I did a thing with my hair

Yesterday I threw my hair into a twisty bun thing with this figure-eight clip. I just meant for it to be out of my way, but it looked so pretty I wanted to share it.

I feel I need to justify why I'm sharing this, but I have no reason other than I was proud of myself.:o

That is very pretty! I have often done some quick, thrown together updo and thought, 'hey, that is awesome looking!' So I know how that can be. :)

I think I will put up some instructions sometime soon. I need to take some in process pictures.

I will, however, try to to give a quick-and-dirty written explanation.

1. Brush hair back, make it smootish on top, etc.
2. Take hold of hair at base of neck and start twisting it. It doesn't matter which direction. Do what feels natural.
3. Keep moving your hands down the hair, twisting it as you go. I find this to be the easiest way. Go until you have about a foot and a half of hair twisted. It should be slightly overtwisted so that it keeps trying to double back on itself. This will be important.
4. Pull the twisted hair up across the back of your head, and then fold it in half, and let that part twist back on itself. All the while holding on to the remainder of hair so it doesn't untwist.
5. The twisted up part will more or less stay in place by itself. Continue twisting the rest of the hair and wrap it around the outside of the already twisted part.
6. Do this until you run out of hair, and tuck the ends under the mass of hair somewhere.
7. Use some kind of big clip to hold it in place. I like the flexi-8. No pins necessary.

I'm going to try to do a diagram in paint.

No, I guess my Paint skills are not what I thought. Well, I should have some pictures by next week.

Thank you for the directions, I tried this and it was fab! It stayed up all day at work on Friday and I knew it looked good. My hair isn't as *big* as yours, but it did make a very nice intricate twisty bun and my slide held it beautifully. :) I will for sure use this again.

And welcome to LHC. :)

Hee! And I tried it *again* today, and it worked, stayed in all day, just the slide holding it, and it felt fine, looked good. This is a keeper for me. :)

Ok, time for some how-to pictures, in case anyone would like them. This one didn't turn out quite as nice, since I had to keep stopping to take pictures.

First, start the twisting.

Next, pull it up.
http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/9702/howto2.jpg

Then, let it twist back on itself.

Next, start twisting and wrapping the rest around it.

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2684/howto6.jpg

And tuck in the end.

Then add your clip.

Sorry this post is so horribly long. I hope it was useful. If I'm ever prolific enough to be able to add articles, I may move the instructions over there. Or someone could do it for me, if they wanted.

Maybe some day my DS will come home when I'm awake and have my hair fixed in this bun. Perhaps I can bribe him to take a picture of how mine worked up. :)

I love those pics! Very helpful! A few more inches and I may be able to do a shorter compacted version of it.

This looks awesome!!! And I really love the hair toy too. Hair sticks haven't grown on me yet (haha grown...) but this looks really neat and something I'll have to look out for.

Very pretty, thanks for sharing the photo! :flower:

...and you don't have to justify sharing anything - we all love to look at hair photos. ;) And it's great to see that you're happy with your hair and still experimenting with it at longer lengths. Lots of people lose interest in creating new updos long before they reach 44". :)
