Wow. I came across this question on Yahoo Answers (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090701125826AADhcIG&r=w#P8dbIUfaKFgwB0xGwEs0)and was taken aback by some of the other answers. Guess COing doesn't fly with the mainstream...

And yes, that's my answer towards the bottom. :o

Don't you just LOVE it when people who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about tells you you shouldn't do something? :p

I don't think most people outside of LHC understand what conditioner is or what it does.. so when they hear someone say they dont shampoo their immediate thought is "ew! she never washes their hair!!!""Conditioner is greece!" indeed.. a mini-vacation in a bottle! ;)

I got a kick out of the "Greece" thing too. There was another hair question where someone put "Moose!" as the answer. It took me a minute to figure why in the world someone would think a giant, antlered mammal had anything at all to do with hair. :D

Oh I know, it just bugs me that people always seem to be so eager to put something down without actually giving the matter a serious look. But then again, I generally "just say no" to the status quo

I have heard a lot of people say that conditioner makes your hair greasy, and other misconceptions. Someone even told me that conditioner is just a watered down version of "Nair" hair removal cream.

:agape:shudder::spitting: Nair?!?!!? LOL well think of all the money I could have saved if I had just slathered cheap conditioner on my legs than that burning cream! lol were they actually serious??

Holy goodness. Some people really freaked out! Whatever. I trust the things that I've tried, and sometimes, CO is exactly what I need.

^_^; Besides, this place is the only place I trust for good hair advice. Yahoo answers can be pretty ill-informed.

ETA:

Jheeze! wth are you thinking? do you like greesy hair or something:S its like putting your underwear on and nothing else when you go out, you need both underwear and clothes not just underwear! and in your case underwear=conditioner, your hairs just gunna get more greesy and horrible, and terribly unhealthy. USE SHAMPOO GOD DAMN IT!

... There was a whole bunch of what-the-H-E-double-hockey-sticks is this person going on about in there. I love how they just start rambling about wearing underwear.

Wonder how bad they would freak out if they found out some people only use water to wash their hair?

I guess at least they would be reassured that there wouldn't be so much 'Greece' hanging around :)

Urgh it's obnoxious how this punctuates the cycle of ignorance. People who don't know anything jabber to some one who wants to learn something new. Some of those responses were ridiculous and actually got me pretty flustered...

This is why I keep my mouth shut when I don't know what I'm talking about. Sometimes I think most people enjoy the tiny box of ignorance they have decided to live in.

Those replies made me laugh. My hair is not greasy or dirty. In fact, my hair feels much cleaner when I CO wash than it ever did with shampoo. I got rid of all my shampoo; I'll never use it again.

Ah, but maybe they're Scottish and they're referring to a wee fluffy creature that's "loose aboot this hoose" :p

I try to laugh at it and just see it as amusing, but I can't help getting annoyed sometimes at the ignorance. I try to just ignore it, but can't help getting irritated. fail!

Yahoo! Answers is so worthless lol...once in a while you can get good answers, but there is too much B.S. to dig through.

BTW I voted for your answer as a "good answer", LadyGunn. :D

Haha oh wow, I feel bad for the person who asked that question on yahoo answers. This is why I don't rely on yahoo answers for my questions, especially about hair care. The people there are mostly just answering questions to get points, or try to sound like they know everything. Meh, I just laugh at it then ignore it. You get the occasional good answer though, just have to sift through the bs!

She was totally serious. Most of my friends are full of hair misinformation. None quite that extreme, but they think some crazy things. Not that I am an expert, but I think I am a bit better informed.

Tehehe I love it when people show off their intellegents with miss informed facts and no knolodge of chemicals. They could of at least researched it like I did when I first discovered the idea through google. I try to stay away from people that don't bother to research and/or experiment. I wish people would educate them selves more. I am very much a debator and I love experimenting and researching.

I think some of the posters that like to answer questions on Yahoo write ridiculous answers for shock value. I have read similar responses about all kinds of issues. And I hate to say it, but sometimes the answer are so FAR out there that I wonder how old IS the person that is providing a response? And are they just doing it to get some sort of "I answered one hundred questions today" prize? I am guilty of spitting out my morning coffee at my monitor from laughing so hard at the responses.

Anyone else notice this comment?

"Personally, I think its gross! Although I have never tried it, it sounds like a bad idea. It would work ok for the ends, but the scalp would remain greasy. A gentle shampoo is cleansing, and if not done too often is a good way to keep your scalp healthy.

Actually...

you put your underwear on before your clothes.

Shampoo users would shampoo before they condition.

So it's in essence, like going out in your clothes, without any underwear.

I've decided to be proud to be a shampoo commando

:nono: Yahoo answers is 80% of the stupidest people on the internet, and 20% of pre-adolescent children with not an ounce of brain matter between them.

I have tried, time and time again, to offer advice there. I've had to tell myself to just give up. They are beyond help. The stupid, it burns.

Wow...that is so funny! People have no idea what they are talking about! Even my family...the only way they know that what I'm doing isn't unhealthy or gross is that they look at my hair. They remember what it looked like when I shampooed and blow-dried. It never grew this long and it certainly didn't look this nice. I get compliments on my hair all the time and it is so healthy. It's been years since I've used shampoo so obviously Co-washing doesn't make your hair gross. Seeing is believing so usually they don't argue after that!lol

Yikes.

Well, she is open to her own opinion, I guess... and we should probably refrain from mentioning her posts from another site. Seems somehow to break the rules...though I'm unsure if it does.

People don't seem to realize that the surfacents in conditioner can loosen dirt and oils (though not strip them out completely like shampoo) and clean hair just as well with some scrubbing.

Thank you! Exactly what I was going to point out.

When people ask about my hair, I have a hard enough time explaining to people what conditioner washing is... let alone explain why I don't ever use shampoo (unless I'm straightening my hair). Although ironically, the people who've actually thought about it for more than two seconds said, "Wow that's actually a great idea!" :p

Whenever I see a hair question on YA I just let it pass. They're mostly teens who are completely sold on brands. Sometimes, well a lot of times, the best answer is the one with all the thumbs downs but not this time! If she doesn't pick a best answer I will vote for yours.

It does depend on the CO though. With Suave I could do it but my hair kept breaking and there was so much oiling to do so I went back to V05 which is amazing on my hair. Have to use the poo though. :)

The point is no one wants Greece or France or even Italy in their hair. lol

I have tried to explain CO on a Norwegian board also, it`s no use. The other people/girls there only started attacking each other, saying stuff about the others having dirty hair and so on... I think that alternative washing methods is very hard to understand for many people. Sad.

Hate to ruin that idea that people on Yahoo know nothing about CO, but the first comment that mentioned how gross CO is, came from an LHC'er.

(No, not me. I like CO!)

ETA: Read the thread more closely, and I see Dars had already pointed that out.

LOL! The only comments I can see are the positive ones, probably from our members. The negative ones are all voted down and screened so you can only see them if you click to look at them. Obviously there are way more of us intelligent informed people than the ignorant ones!

Haha, I too loved the underwear-comment!

While my hair is not a big fan of conditioner-only washing (although it seems to love shampoo-only ), I do know if its benefits to many kinds of hair, and that it can be a cleaner if used right.

I don't get it, why even try answering a question if you don't know anything about it?

I particuarly like the 'hair is greece-y' answer and the answer that likens CO washes to putting dirty underwear on. FAIL.
